Why, Nintendo, Why?

Part of me understands that the Wii is a fun system. It’s designed to get you more involved in the games and play with people. So my hats off to you Nintendo for making the ultimate party game machine!

Wait, party game machine? Admit it folks, the Wii has virtually zero ACTUAL games on it. Look at the games. Everything is designed to be played in short bursts with other people. I cry foul on this. Why not make REAL games to play with the inventive system? Yeah there are a few out there, but how will Nintendo ever expect to make a lasting impression without it’s own Gears Of War or Metal Gear? I mean, there is only so much Mario can do, you know? Once the fad of having the hardest to get system wears of (and it is already starting to show) how will Nintendo survive? By releasing the WiiLite, or the WiiAdvanced?

[ad#adbrite-box-1]Gamers want games, not collection after collection of mini game based packages that are fun for all of an hour or so. And face it – most of those collections are just the same type of mini games with different graphics.  Come on Nintendo, you are not fooling anyone. And now you are planning on releasing OLD GameCube games as Wii games starting with Pikmin? I love Pikmin and all, but why release Pikmin ONE instead of creating a fresh new Pikmin THREE? And you are actually going to sell this to the public? You know it will sell cause people are chomping at the bit  for real Wii games. I wonder why Nintendo won’t make some serious games. Instead they push absolute crap like WiiMusic. Why the hell would anyone play a gimpy music game when Rock Band and Guitar Hero are out? No wonder that game bombed.

Do not think I am a Wii hater or a Nintendo hater. Yeah, I’ve always been a Sega fan, but I enjoy Nintendo. I love Donkey Kong, that’s one of my favorite game characters ever. And Mario Kart is like the end all be all racing game for me. The older systems had some awesome games on them, like Super Mario Bros 3. Back then Nintendo knew how to make a game. Now we get an ass load of Pokemon games. I just do not understand how Nintendo has lasted as long as they have. I am sure if it was not for the innovations in game play then they would have sunk long ago. Their problem is they focus on an immature market that they don’t understand. Kids don’t want to play Cooking Mama, they look to the other system’s games like Mass Effect and God of War and want to play those.  Every time I go to the store I don’t see kids crowding the Wii display. No, They are all looking at the 360 and the PS3 games.

The Wii is a fun system. I just can’t understand how they will corner the gamer market with a poor gamer library. But Nintendo will survive. They will keep releasing mini game after mini game. They will build up their virtual arcade with old, old games and bring in the cash fist over fist. They will release the WiiHD like it is the heralding if the next generation when the 360 and the PS3 were always like that. People will line up to buy Mario Kart GameCube edition even though there is the Wii edition already out. And of course there will be a next GameBoy every 6 months to keep them afloat as well. 

And I will be left wondering how people keep falling for this game of theirs and how much longer it will be before Mario and pals are begging for money on the street corner.  I’d give Donkey Kong a quarter.
