On the Radar- R.U.S.E.
At the GDC 2009 conference Ubisoft introduced a new Exciting and Unique Strategy Game Title called, R.U.S.E. (which ill just refer to as RUSE from now on, because pointless periods are annoyingly stupid).
Don’t like strategy games? Well this isn’t your average run of the mill one, have a look:
Here’s the Introduction Trailer:
Now you don’t actually play this game on that bad ass surface table, yea I know that would have kicked major ass. Instead, the game will be releasing for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.
Essentially the game is set in WWII, and allows you to pick from one of six factions (USA, UK, Italy, France, Germany, and the USSR) each having its own advantages. The twist comes in where gameplay has a card mechanic built into it, at the start of the game you care given a choice of a few RUSE cards, (and a random one) that allows you to activate more than 10 different types of “deceptions”
Another very cool aspect is the 3D engine allows for three different “battlefield views”, You’ve got your top-down battlefield commander type view (seen in this first screenshot), a strategic view (not many details here yet), and finally a close up boots to the ground view of all the action.
Gametrailers just but up some Cam footage of the gameplay and my jaw dropped. The seamless integration between these views is amazing. And i’m totally digging the “tabletop” look where the outer most zoom looks like something from the Military or History Channel.
I used to play board games all the time so this game is right up my alley. This iriszoom system really looks like its working the way it supposed to – I’m Impressed. I think i’ve already decided to give the game a shot from what ive seen so far…
Since i’m such a huge strategy fan i’ll be keeping my eyes on this one, expect more updates as they come available. The game releases sometime this year.
