Gamer Dad 02 – Bitten By The Love Bug
I think that to begin the GamerDad series, I should take some time to explain my history so that you will know how the idea for the series came about.
Let me take a moment to reveal a little bit about Single Stone, that is the Stone pre-relationship. Single Stone was always up for a good time. Single Stone’s house was always open to anyone who wanted to come over and just hang out. Late night gaming sessions were a very common event around Single Stone’s apartment. Timesplitters was always a favorite, as was Axis and Allies the board game. Single Stone was free to do what he wanted when he wanted everyday, rain or shine.
Then the love bug snuck into Single Stone’s apartment and attacked and single Stone became Husband Stone, the Stone you know today.

I met the missus online. It was weird cause it all started out with me asking her about her headline. It was ‘The Other Magical Mystery Tour’. Now remember, I had no clue about Beatle’s songs. So that’s how we met, over my idiocity over a musical joke. It took us a couple of weeks before we actually met, which I will get to shortly. Duringthese weeks we would chat online about nothing. Literally nothing. It was a bunch of gibberish. Like this –JAFJkin.jhhjm/KFKFJDHLKSYAU; And we would do this for hours on end. Then IM’ing became phone talks. Then came the invitation to her birthday party. I was unable to go because it was a late night event and I had an early morning job.
So instead I went out and made her a gift bag of Sea Monkeys and some weird little metal magnetic bendy thing. I had located where she worked and drove there the next day cause my job was flexible like that. I was a route supervisor so I had the freedom to do something crazy like this. So from only seeing pictures of her I knew her from a distance. She was wearing a bright pink skirt and was late for work, which I soon found out was a daily habit for her. So I went into her office and when our eyes met we were both speechless. She didn’t recognize me at all and then I gave her the gift bag and the rest was history.

We always ended up at each others doors. We became one of those couples that were always finding ways to run into each other. I don’t think I was fully ready for the transition from Single Stone to Relationship Stone. I was having a hard time finding time for everything because at the beginning of a relationship things are always busy. The late night gaming sessions slowed down. I found myself spending more time with the missus than the guys.
And then I proposed. Talk about a nerve racking experience. But I just knew it was right, I just felt it. Yet she did not know what a Halo was. She couldn’t comprehend Timesplitters. She thought shooting a figure that looked like Shiva had to be sacrilegious somewhere until she saw that Shiva was shooting a goldfish robot being chased by a giant duck. And if it wasn’t Trivial Pursuit or Monopoly, she didn’t get it. She listened to 80’s music and I couldn’t stand the 60-80’s time periods. We were the polar opposites yet we were destined to be.
She was definitely no gamer, nor fangirl. I was in for a lot of changes.
