Watchmen

Stone here, and yes I know Watchmen has been out for a few weeks now. To be 100% honest with you I was afraid to see this movie. You see, I am a comic fanboy and one of my all time favorite graphic novels is Watchmen. It is right there in the number two spot under Wanted. NO. I will never watch the Wanted movie. I could already tell what a piece of crap it was from the trailers.

I guess you could say that I am a Watchmen junkie. There is so much in this comic that I was so afraid it would get skewered in the transition. And let’s face it, it doesn’t really have the happy feeley good ending people expect from a movie these days. In case you DON’T know the story of Watchmen, it revolves around a group of disbanded ‘heroes’ in an alternate 1985 universe who are united by a guy named Rosharch after one of their own get’s murdered and Rosharch senses a bigger plot afoot.

I was afraid to see this movie. A lot of my friends saw it and loved it, but not one of them had actually read the original comic. It wasn’t until my friend JestaKraz talked to me about it that my fears were killed. He too is a Watchmen nut and he loved it. So right now, let me tell all you other ‘reserved’ comic fan boys out there – You have nothing to fear. The director of this film obviously loves the source material. He dedicated himself to keeping it as it was, down to the naked Dr. Manhattan. He even used shots from the comic panels in some of his layout of the film. It all comes together with so much beauty that it is almost too much to take in. The only thing I do not feel worked was the soundtrack, and that is because I hate films that rely on actual songs from the past and present to convey moods. And being set in the 80′s didn’t help. I hate that musical era.

All in all, this is by far the best comic book movie made ever. Nothing bad against Sin City, but Watchmen has always been my favorite and now it is taking its place on my all time favorite movie list. Such a good choice in casting the heroes, such love put into something I hold dear to me, and of course they knocked Rosharch out of the park in this film. He was ALWAYS my favorite character in the book and seeing him done so well on the screen made the movie for me.
