Being Ahead Of The Curve
Stone here. Does anyone remember the VirtualBoy? Or how bout R.O.B. the gaming robot? The power glove? Anyone? Those were all early Nintendo innovations, a sure sign that the company was on the forefront of gaming culture. As much as I complain about Nintendo, they do seem to hold to keys to gaming innovations. I remember when I saw the Wiimote for the first time and gawked. Now it is second nature. And they were the heralds of the handheld market and have remained king for well over 20 years now. It doidn’t matter what came at them, the Sega Game Gear or the Sony PSP, nothing, and I mean nothing can touch the GameBoy, though I don’t know why.

They were trying things before other companies were even thinking of them, including my favorite Sega. They had that R.O.B. robot dealie for lonely kids to play with someone. Granted it only worked with like 2 games, but they actually made it. For their entire history, Nintendo has been making waves with their systems and their games, and it has all been capped off by the Wii.

The Wii is making games truly interactive, something more than a sit on the couch and push this button and that button type of experience. So with all of the hits and misses Nintendo has had, why have the others not had that success? Where is the truly groundbreaking innovations that Nintendo is common place for in all the other companies?
I mean, can you imagine if Sony made the Wii and what an awesome gaming system that would have been?
I want to know why the other companies are not thinking outside of the box. Nintendo surely can not be the only one with balls enough to say “screw it. Let’s give it a shot. If it works, it works.” And now the others guys are racing to catch up with this whole motion sensitivity concept. Sony’s got the next gen wii mote coming that uses little led light sor something that makes it more acurate and XBox has that sensor bar coming. I am giddy with excitement over the possabilities those will bring to true gamer consoles. Perhaps Overlord 3 will read your motion comands to control the imps, or you will hack and slash as Kratos and create unique combos. Now I am actually excited for the future of game play in some massive titles. !!!! Can you imagine marvel Vs Capcom or something like that that reads your fighting moves? No More Button Mashing For ME!!!!!!
Stone out.

Hehe I was telling Joe a few weeks ago how I still have my R.O.B. Lil bugger is boxed up and sitting on top of my Sega CD. Nintendo always had balls to try new things. Some are hits some and some are misses. Either way kudos to them for trying.
Speaking of the Virtual Boy, the hubs still has the PC Gamer that debated what was going to be the next biggest trend, Virtual Headgear or Online Multiplayer Gaming.
