E3 2009 – Joe’s Top 5 Most Anticipated Games
We talked about going to E3 here at the show with our partners at Blistered Thumbs, but decided against it. This Year.
We need to focus on launching the website design (Early to Mid June) and help with the launch of the Official Blistered Thumbs site – More on that later.
However that doesn’t mean were not friggin’ excited as hell about this years show. Despite there not being some mega-ton announcement (at least not one that Joe is aware of) there’s still plenty of games we’d like to see more of..
Here they are in order:
Joe’s Most Anticipated E3 Games List
1. Borderlands

An upcoming Mad Max Style shooter with RPG elements, Borderlands has all the ingredients to be awesome. Customizable Characters, 4 Player Cooperative mode, Vehicular Combat, Looting and Questing! Joe’s Kinda Game. Finally the game has a Procedural Generator system to give us at least 500,000 different item and armor variations! WHA?! Not only that but the system also can generate map sections in the open, placing bunkers, towers, caves, enemies, and exploding cacti. And All of this is done without a loading screen! YOU Tell me why this shouldn’t be first on the list!?!?!
2. Red Dead Redemption

I have the boxed collection of the superb spaghetti western series, The Man with No Name. Clint Eastwood at his best, the ultimate gunslinger. Westerns may not be the most popular genre (especially not in the world of video games) but there’s something about the wild west that just grabs at you. Holster a six shooter, saddle a good horse and make your own way. Will you side with the long arm of the law? Or will you gun down any man stupid enough to get in your way?
3. Modern Warfare 2

Modern Warfare. Enough said.
4. Mass Effect 2

I enjoyed the relatively short first Mass Effect but had two main gripes that I hope to see addressed in the sequel. There’s no variation in the items and weapons – they all pretty much looked the same to me. That and the planets you could travel to were all stupidly dull and boring to explore. If they address these two aspects, i’m ready to promote the shit outta this game!
5. Aliens Vs. Predator 3

So first they go and delay Aliens: Colonial Marines, then they put it on indefinitely hold. Sega Cancels the Aliens RPG, and refuses to release the finished Alien Marines Game for the DS. Its been a pretty rough year for Aliens fans like me. Luckily there seems to be one glimmer of hope ahead. AVP is returning! No not the shitty movies, the fucking awesome games! I hope there’s co-op!
Other games i’m looking forward to are Lost Planet 2 (4-player coop & customizable characters!), Batman: Arkham Asylum (BE the Batman!), and the recently announced Pirates of the Caribbean RPG: Armada of the Damned.

i am more often than not scurrying on the web virtually all of the week hence I have the inclination to browse a whole lot, which unfortunately is not usually a beneficial option as nearly all of the internet websites I view are made up of unnecessary waste copied from many other websites a trillion times, nevertheless I have to give you credit this page is truely half decent and even boasts a lot of genuine content, for that reason kudos for splitting the trends of exactly duplicating other folks’ sites

I know everyone loves the Predator, but I really wish a game would finally come out that captures the atmosphere and essence of the second Aliens movie. I don’t need a Predator, just give me Colonial Marines and Aliens!!! I’ll be happy just having my pulse rifle and smart gun. I don’t need tons of guns to enjoy a shooter…where would I carry them all anyway? I don’t need anti matter guns if my pulse rifle is effective and gets the job done. Today gamers expect new innovations, new monsters and such, and that’s fine, but seriously: I think the most defining element that makes a game fun is the atmosphere. There is nothing wrong with not trying to re-invent the wheel. I yet have to see what is considered standard features in a FPS brought to perfection…I’m still waiting.
I say: make Aliens dangerous enough to kill you in one hit once they’re close (as it was in the movie), give them a good AI, make them good stalkers and ambushers so you have to be cautious and always on edge, and you don’t need dozens of kinds of monsters to keep you on your toes.
I hope that Collonial Marines will be all that. Somehow I doubt it, but yes there is still hope.

Thats because Borderlands is a new ip. When I go ahead and pick up MW2 and play it I will be reminded of how great this game is, but I will also be reminded that it will be very similar to MW1.
Thats how sequals work….

Wolrd of Diablocraft 1.5 will suck. Every gamer knows it and that’s why it’s not on that list

When I was on Youtube today, every trailer I saw got more epic than the last one.
First I saw Mass Effect 2. I am one of those die-hard fans of this series. Someone mentioned to me that Ascension may have clues for Mass Effect 2, so I read that book faster than you can say “Migrant Fleet”. For anyone who wants to know (and if you don’t scroll down) when Joker says, “Its not the Geth” at that scene when they detected a new ship, there is a 99% chance that its Cerberus. I recommend that book to all fans of Mass Effect, including people who don’t like reading. Until I read it, I wasn’t much of a reader myself. Stephen Colbert’s book was the only one I really read for the longest time.
Next, I saw Assassin’s Creed 2. I didn’t think anything could possibly out-do ME2′s trailer, but I was indeed wrong. There isn’t much to say about it, only that Da Vinci will probably epic this game up more than ever.
And then there was The Old Republic. You can see it on that post Stone made. It also made me realize that back in the Old Republic bounty hunters were down right sexy (as long as they were female). We originally had Mira and the Twin Suns in kotor 2, and now miss blows-up-bridges. Once again, Bioware never ceases to amaze.
I hope, though its probably not going to happen, they make a console version of it, since my computer is slower than… I can’t think of anything to compare it to it suck

the only game in the list I’m going to buy 100%: mass effect 2.
My top game at the E3 however will be ALAN WAKE. At least I hope Microsoft will show some new material to Remedys kickass Psychological Thriller game. Best thing about it: It’s partly based on Twin Peaks and written by Sam Lake who is also responsible for the Max Payne plot.

I think Borderlands will be a great game, but…
The “Mad Max” setting should be used carefuly. I dont want to see the Fallout series get rejected simply because people think the setting is played out by other games.
Oh, and Red Dead Redemption is going to be awsome!!!

@nico you right bout the 500k thing.
For example if you get 20 different sets. Than you have:
20 boots
20 pants
20 chestplates
20 gloves
20 hemlets
Only this would give 3.2 millionZ different variations.

1. mw2
2. mass effect 2
3. avp3
dont be fooled by borderlands, its 500,000 different VARIATIONS, not singular items
