Sacred 2: Fallen Angel Review

The SHORT Version: Sacred 2 has some serious bugs, glitches, and interface issues – but despite all that it provides a fun addicting hack and slash experience. Quest, Loot, Grind, Level, and Fight Massive Bosses with your friends. This game rules at least until Diablo III comes out

The Video Review

The LONG Version:

Sacred 2 is one of those games that’s really fun despite its own attempts to fuck it all up – The problem stems from the interface – you can tell that this game was developed 100% for the PC and then the developers sat in a room afterwards and said okay; How the hell are we going to put this onto a controller without changing the game design?

Its not that its difficult to navigate it just that it take some getting used to. The developers made some odd choices of buttons – like LB to pick up items and RB to pull up your inventory – if you play co-cooperatively, you will accidentally open up the trade dialogue with your partner constantly when looting. And for some reason the developers chose to not have a real “PAUSE” in this game – which leads to a lot of getting youre ass kicked when your taking a bathroom break or busy doing something. Did they honestly expect me to play this game all the way through in one sitting?

Dont pause! not for a second!

The reviews for this game haven’t been stellar so far. Reviewers completely tore the PC game to shreds. We tried our best to stay away from all some of the negative things being said – but damn have they been complaining loud.

Well i’m happy to tell you that except for some guys like the A- review from 1up, the rest of them are wrong.

Sacred 2 is definitely a better game on the console if only because your willing to put up with some of its shortcoming because your sitting on the couch with your buddy having a great time. And really that’s the only way to play Sacred 2 – with friends. Though I strongly recommend playing this game at least 1-2 hours before doing so because it’s going to take you that long to get accustomed to its odd design.

The game does borrow heavily from its big brother Diablo II, essentially you point click kill and loot – or in this case you hold the attack button instead of clicking. (which pissed me off, I wanted to mash buttons to attack).
I am a Loot Whore.
I love beating the crap outta things standing in my way then ripping the coolest items from their lifeless cold bodies!

I can forgive the lackluster plot only because this game takes me to so many damn locations it always feels new to me, Green Plains, forests, volcanic islands, deserts, and swamps. If your looking for epic story its not here.

He be Rollin'...on his segway....

He be Rollin'...on his segway....

While you may not get the story elements from some of the more big budget games, what you will get is deep combat which is welcome since that makes up pretty much the entire game. You’ve got a whole bunch of things like direct damage, ranged, area of effect, damage over time, heals and drains, summoning creatures, and all sorts of really cool stuff – not only do you get a massive amount of attack options you can combine them to be executed at the same time! Thats really when the game really gets to the next level.

The developers know their craft, it’s a mindless hack and slasher! With an addictive leveling system. And its got a great sense of oddball humor.

Could it use some more polish? Definitely. But the world is so massive you’ll be playing this forever with your friends or solo. Quest, grind, loot, level, and fight massive bosses….all can be done with your friend sitting next to you on the same screen, drinking beer and eating junk food. This game rules at least until Diablo III comes out.

7/10

GAVIN’S SECOND OPINION

xmas-let-down

I want to like this game. I really do. It takes me back to the fun of Baulder’s Gate. But I have a hard time accepting this game as it is now. WHY THE HELL DID THEY RELEASE A BROKEN GAME? I lost every attempted character due to corrupt data. Angry Joe and I died on a trap, then respawned on the trap and died again, then respawned outside of the cave on top of each other and froze the game. I killed things off the screen with a bow and arrow while Angry Joe ran in circles being chased. I could not target who I wanted to. The menus are complicated but self explanitory if I cared. I want to run and gun. And let’s talk Epic Rats. We got our asses handed to us by one. A rat. I hate this game as it is now. I want more male characters to choose from. I want a game that works. I dont want Emporer Palpatine to die in the first tavern of the game. Time has not been kind to the guy since his apprentice threw him into the Deathstar’s core. Fix the game and I will love it. I am sure fun times will be had by all.

I rate this broken POS 4 out of 10. A fixed game would rate much, much higher.

Thank you for your whole effort on this site. My niece enjoys setting aside time for research and it’s really simple to grasp why. My partner and i notice all of the dynamic manner you make reliable guidance by means of this web blog and as well as attract participation from the others on the article and our girl is certainly starting to learn so much. Take advantage of the rest of the new year. You are doing a really good job.

Aww, it’s such a shame you didn’t mention the in-game Blind Guardian concert :) That alone makes it worth buying the game ^^

Welcome to the world of PC gamers…. this has been converted from PC to console- around 1% of games are converted from PC to console. PC games are converted from console – around 90% of PC games are converted from console to PC . PC gamers get dumbed down, shallow, badly optimized converted games all the time and console owners don’t give a damn and don;t give PC gamers any support – so I am laughing at all the people who bought this game on console and saying ‘serve you right for not caring about us PC gamers that go through the same thing 10 times more!

    Hi guys!

    Two things:

The Developer (a german studio) went bankrupt after the game.
    And
The live band ingame (at the end of the Review) is called “Blind Guardian” and is one of the most popular Fantasy-Metal-Bands. They recorded a whole album based an The Silmarillion called “Nightfall in Middle-Earth”! Check it out!

Maybe a third thing… Great Review Angry Jose. As usual!
