5 Things we like about Ghostbusters: TVG and 5 We Don’t.
![]()
One of our favorite franchises, The Ghostbusters gets its debut on the Next Gen Systems. Will this game live up to the Original Movies or Fail as hard as nearly every other Movie Licensed Title? Here are the 5 Things that we like about Ghostbusters: The Video Game and 5 we don’t!
The Preview
As you might have been able to tell from the video we think the game actually has the potential to break the Movie Licensed Game Curse. The gameplay for Ghostbusters: TVG has been described as “Gears of War Lite” as the player controls the action from the over the shoulder camera, but instead of feeling gimmicky, it’s actually a welcome design choice here – as all of the games HUD information is displayed on the proton pack itself! The player is treated to all the detail in the pack and character model while he tracks and traps ghosts – which only make me groan more about the fact that there is no custom character – since we will be up close and personal with our “Rookie” for the entire playthrough.
It’s been so comforting to know the simple fact that the original writers, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, have been so involved in the project from the very beginning. These guys really care about the mythos of the Ghostbusters and stand to do it the most justice! The story has even been essentially dubbed the “Third Movie in the Franchise”, and I can not wait to revisit all the now Iconic Ghosts from the films!
What impresses us the most however is that Terminal Reality (Threewave?) decided that nailing down a solid story and using a familiar game design wasn’t enough – they wanted to make this a multiplayer game. After all – there are 4, arguably 5 ghostbusters in total! My only complaint here is that while the 4 modes announced sound cool they dont help me forget the fact that there will be No 4-player Cooperative mode through the entire story campaign! Allowing your friends to take control of the other busters on the team with drop-in/drop-out play would have been amazing.
Overall though from what we’ve seen Terminal Reality has really crafted an authentic Ghostbusting experience. We think the decision to stick extremely close to the source material without going completely crazy and redesigning everything will be one of the biggest reasons this game succeeds – not only does it look to please its fans, but it promises to expand on the great cannon of the Ghostbuster Universe!
But as always, any game has the potential to take something so incredible and eff it all up, so if your still on the fence about this particular title – stay tuned for our Full Review after its release!
What we can’t wait for…
- To experience whats being called essentially, “The Third Ghostbusters Film”, as the games story was written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis
- To Track and Trap Ghosts using all the famous equipment from the movies!
- To play the Mulitplayer and see if its just something they tacked on at the end, or if its actually worth playing
What might Suck…
- No Custom Character Creator.
- Are you serious? Theres no 4 player co-op in the Story Mode (though we do get some single multiplayer one-off missions that have you and 3 other online players cooperating, but its just not the story mode and therefore not as interesting)
- The game will lean heavily on its story so its got to be fun to play through and of a good length.
When does it come out?

Well I truly enjoyed reading it. This tip offered by you is very practical for accurate planning.
Unhappy for the huge practice, but I’m rattling passionate the new Zune, and prospect this, as advantageously as the fantabulous reviews several grouping screw written, module better you decide if it’s the justice prize for you.
hey, just observed your web-site when i google something and wonder what hosting do you use for your website, the speed is more faster than my website, i really want to know it.will back to check it out, thanks!
The Avgn had this up on his website a while ago and though it’s not game related it is part of the Ghostbusters genre. It’s not too bad for a fan made movie http://returnoftheghostbusters.com/
hi joe plz respond to this ok i got an xbox and a ps3 but my ps3 is broken and i love ghostbusters but i am in the uk and it has only been relesed on the ps3 so im wondering has it been relesed on the xbox in the states and if so do u know an website to by it from cheap
Okay…I finally rent the game to play it together with a friend. I watched this video a few weeks ago and there was only “cooperative” stuck in my head…unfortunately I forgot the “no” before it. I just watched at amazon.de…they said “2 player splitscreen”.
Even the goddamn PS3-Box says “1-4 players” (and I’m not talking about network, I mean at one console)…man, we were pissed when we found out that this was nothing more than a lie.
Maybe a little late to post here, but hey…if anybody reads this, does the US-version of the game also say “1-4 Players”?

Even the official PS3-Website says there are up to 4 players…Joe, you’ve got a problem with me getting angry, too? :-/
After reading your review on the game, I must say you are indeed a hardcore fan to the Ghostbusters movies. Indeed, the game is of course excellent to being called the “Third Movie” on the next-gen consoles (360, PS3 Vista). In case you’re wondering, the 5th ghostbuster (otherwise known as “Rookie”) is played by Ryan French, a former employee from Sierra games who was working on the game and was introducing the game back at E3 2008. Still, I’m glad that I got to test the game for the Wii (I’m a game tester at Nintendo of America but my name isn’t in the credits since I was testing the game for a short time) and enjoyed playing that version (it’s more to the cartoon series, The Real Ghostbusters, including that you can play as either a boy or a girl). But anyway, great review and I’ll continue watching more of your reviews.
(One more thing, how was it working on the TGWTG Aniversery Brawl video with Doug, James, and Others?)
I have the game and I’m replaying through on the intermediate setting. Good GOD this game is fun. Like Joe said, they’re all there. I kinda wish it was longer, but that’s just me.
Nice list, Joe. I agree with what you said. Terminal did a damn fine job with this game. Here’s hoping for a second one!
Haha, pretty funny parody…But something you definatly should put in.
Something about the ghost wearing Black sheets instead of White sheets and when your about to lock him into the containment centre he says “Man, you only doing this cuz I’m black, your racist man.”. Would be kind of funny…
Well i started playing at a friend …. i’m in love with this game , i don’t remember why i thought it was gonna suck .
) .
I didn’t make it that far , i’m at the giant white whatever monster , i don’t remember the name
One big thing I don’t think it matters that there isn’t create a character in the game right now, is that they fine tuned everything in this game to see if this engine would work, and if the gameplay would be fun in it’s own right first. If the game became successful enough, we might get a sequel game, with those certain missing features added. And if any videogame players who are playing the game (who were never ghostbusters fans in the first place, but play the game for what it is) Go suck a root if you have problems with replayability in this game. I personally think there is plenty of replayability. There are hidden artifacts and items scattered throughout each level to find and collect, so if you don’t find them the first time, play the levels again until you find them all, and there are two other difficulty modes to the single player story, which i know from the instruction manual, that there are certain ghosts that are added to the harder modes that you don’t see in the casual mode, that are harder to catch, making it longer to play the levels. Oh, and I forgot to mention that each time you play the levels, it gets harder to analyse each new ghost in the PKE meter that transfers into the portable Tobin Spirit Guide (because it easy to get sidetracked in the immediate reaction to a trap attempt). This game is awesome. And if it’s not an immediate success, I have a feeling that it’s gameplay (not missing extracurricular features) that will make this game a sleeper hit. By the last way, maybe the single player story mode lasts eight hours in length, but that is just the minimum if played on casual mode. Think of it this way, it’s three hours longer than what it would take to finish the gameplay in Terminator Salvation. Oh, shit. Forgot another piece of info. For PS3 and 360 owners of the game, there are over 50 achievement points/Playstation Trophies to collect, which is 39 points/trophies more than what you had to get in terminator salvation’s game. In this gamer/GB fan’s eyes, this game is impressive shit for a movie licenced game
The reason there is no 4 player coop is because there isn’t always 4 players there. sometimes theres 2, sometimes theres 5, hence, no coop.
Thankyou man. That’s exactly what I figured. Although you can do up to four players in online multiplayer co-op missions. But it does suck for those without online connection. But I love this game. It was everything I hoped it would be in terms of gameplay, laughs, and most of all, interaction with my childhood heroes. I mean, it’s a chance at having your very own working, unlicenced nuclear accelerator, and trap!
Luckely it’s Region Free so we europeans (Netherlands 8)) can still enjoy the game pretty fast. I expect mine somewhere today or tomorrow.
Great vid as always happy birth day Joe if today was your B day
The Ghost Cops SHOULD be on telly. I would definetly watch that show
Awesome video JOE! good job
Hey Joe, been watching you vids for a while now (since Fable 2 i think), and by far this is my favorite video of yours. Keep it up!(and show Emily in more vids lol
Joe.. I have something for you to be angry about..
How about no Multiplayer at all on the PC? Even better, it was there, but they decided to rip it out.

Yea I saw that, thats weird as shit. I’ll make a mention in the review, thanks for that.
Also that bullsh*t with the EU version.
i usually dont like to comment, bit of paranoia. But ive been watching the videos for a while, Joe you just missed a chance to make some joke about Luigi or something, i mean he had his own ghost bust game with a vacoon and all that.
@ Joe: Spoony does a Lets-Play-SWAT4 Series where the bad boys song is the opener. And it might have looked a little bit familiar
Oh Yea. I dont watch Let’s Plays – They piss me off from a video producers stand point. In my opinion So little effort goes into them it makes me angry – why the hell do I want to watch you play a game? But I can see how spoony’s might be enjoyable. I love that guy.
Apparently these things are all the rage. Will Joe Cave In and do a lazy Let’s Play? Everyone else is. Lame.
i cant wait for this game either! haha the cops spoofs was hilarious joe
I laughed my butt off! Very nice vid, I see that you spend alot of time in this one!
Joe, can you take me with you? I want to see how a pro works with my own eyes
Joe , when i become a ghost and haunt someone(btw you’l let me of without licence and id right :> ? ) , don’t dare take my beer or anything that’s alcohol from me because it could turn out ugly .
HAHHAHHA! Yea man, just mention your an Angry Player and I’ll let you off.. We look out for our own ya know!
That. was. AWESOME!!!
lmao
Awesome as always, but the things you didn’t like about it, can be easily overlooked, just by the fact that it’s F*CKING GHOSTBUSTERS!!!
Awesome review and looks like an amazing game! I loved the whole cops angle (hope Spoony doesn’t mind).
Huh, What does Spoony have anything to do with it?
