5 Things we like about Ghostbusters: TVG and 5 We Don’t.

One of our favorite franchises, The Ghostbusters gets its debut on the Next Gen Systems. Will this game live up to the Original Movies or Fail as hard as nearly every other Movie Licensed Title? Here are the 5 Things that we like about Ghostbusters: The Video Game and 5 we don’t!

The Preview
As you might have been able to tell from the video we think the game actually has the potential to break the Movie Licensed Game Curse. The gameplay for Ghostbusters: TVG has been described as “Gears of War Lite” as the player controls the action from the over the shoulder camera, but instead of feeling gimmicky, it’s actually a welcome design choice here – as all of the games HUD information is displayed on the proton pack itself! The player is treated to all the detail in the pack and character model while he tracks and traps ghosts – which only make me groan more about the fact that there is no custom character – since we will be up close and personal with our “Rookie” for the entire playthrough.

It’s been so comforting to know the simple fact that the original writers, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, have been so involved in the project from the very beginning. These guys really care about the mythos of the Ghostbusters and stand to do it the most justice! The story has even been essentially dubbed the “Third Movie in the Franchise”, and I can not wait to revisit all the now Iconic Ghosts from the films!

What impresses us the most however is that Terminal Reality (Threewave?) decided that nailing down a solid story and using a familiar game design wasn’t enough – they wanted to make this a multiplayer game. After all – there are 4, arguably 5 ghostbusters in total! My only complaint here is that while the 4 modes announced sound cool they dont help me forget the fact that there will be No 4-player Cooperative mode through the entire story campaign! Allowing your friends to take control of the other busters on the team with drop-in/drop-out play would have been amazing.

Overall though from what we’ve seen Terminal Reality has really crafted an authentic Ghostbusting experience. We think the decision to stick extremely close to the source material without going completely crazy and redesigning everything will be one of the biggest reasons this game succeeds – not only does it look to please its fans, but it promises to expand on the great cannon of the Ghostbuster Universe!

But as always, any game has the potential to take something so incredible and eff it all up, so if your still on the fence about this particular title – stay tuned for our Full Review after its release!

What we can’t wait for…

  • To experience whats being called essentially, “The Third Ghostbusters Film”, as the games story was written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis
  • To Track and Trap Ghosts using all the famous equipment from the movies!
  • To play the Mulitplayer and see if its just something they tacked on at the end, or if its actually worth playing

What might Suck…

  • No Custom Character Creator.
  • Are you serious? Theres no 4 player co-op in the Story Mode (though we do get some single multiplayer one-off missions that have you and 3 other online players cooperating, but its just not the story mode and therefore not as interesting)
  • The game will lean heavily on its story so its got to be fun to play through and of a good length.

When does it come out?
