GamerDad 09- GamerDad’s Wanted
There are a lot of jobs in the world. You can be a dentist, or a mortician, a banker, a dog walker, an astronaut, a pimp, a forensic scientist, a carnie, a athlete, an actor or even a fast food worker. It just depends on what peaks your fancy, or what comes your way in some cases. But of all of these jobs, there is none harder than being a dad. I guess I should equate it to being a super hero. You are always, ALWAYS on the go and there is always someone looking up to you. It’s the toughest, but best job, you can ever have. Believe me, I know. I’ve had plenty of jobs over the years as we moved around. And we moved a lot.
I’m not saying that being a mom isn’t hard as well, but look out there in the world and look at the sheer amount of resources for moms. There are magazines, websites and more all dedicated to being a good mom. Yet turn around and look at the dad perspective. We don’t have any where near the amount of resources at our fingertips. In fact, people still find it odd when a dad is a stay at home dad. I was one in the beginning. And I loved it. And as dad’s we have to deal with all the kid problems and the female problems. All you girls know what I mean.
But for all of the stress, there is nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to being a dad.
Being a GamerDad is even more fun, because for lack of a better term, you’re like a kid yourself. You do more than just watch sports and be outdoorsy, you are far more well rounded than your manly man. You have more to offer than the normal dad things.
Let’s take my kid for example. He’s only 3 and a half, and already he is ahead of the game. He has more imagination and he has more family fun time as I am not afraid to do anything. I am always up for getting paint all over the floor, or drawing myself in sidewalk chalk, and best of all, sharing what I consider to be one hell of a fanboy mind with my son. My boss is the same way with his daughter, also 3. There are a lot of kids in his neighborhood and I see them all day in and day out. The other kids, well they are lacking in some ‘kid’ areas. Their parents really only go off of what they see in magazines. I know this cause I do look in those magazines, but I figure things out myself and pave my own way. I can recognize text book parenting a mile away.
That’s what the future needs. It needs more GamerDads. It needs more parents to show their kids that Halloween isn’t evil, it’s fun. It needs parents who wait with their kids for the lightning bugs to come out. It needs parents who are not afraid to be silly. But most important of all, it needs parents who understand that, yes work is important, but family is far more important. Having kids isn’t something to just do. It is a blessing.
But it sure aint easy.
To Be Continued…
