Movie Review: UP
Stone here, and Pixar is one of those studios that just can not seem to do wrong. Even with A Bug’s Life, which is considered their weakest film, they tell compelling stories with great visuals. Up is one of those stories that will hit you in your heart, be warned now. If you cried at the end of Monsters Inc, take some tissues. Sometimes you are left wondering “How?” when they reveal the basics of their next movie. Wall-E? A robot piece? Yet it turned out beyond expectations. So that’s where UP comes in from, out of left field a leaving you wondering how it will work. That’s what is one of the things that makes this movie so good.

First and foremost, this is a sad movie. Though your kids will really like it, you have to be an adult to truely apprecdciate the story. So, Carl, the old man, is stuck in a life that he can not get over the loss of the love of his life. That’s the basic premise of this movie. It is hard to watch some scenes, like the broken mailbox, and not get a little emotional. The first few minutes is the recap of Carl’s whole life and the girl next door. Very little words, very moving scenes. That is a sign of pure visual filmamking. Cut to him as an old man lost in life and about to lose his house and that’s where UP begins. Though this movie ws presented in 3D, it’s not that “In Your Face” God awful 3D, it’s the subtle, draw you in 3D. All in all, it is a great adventure tale of letting go and remebering the good times. The kids in the theatre loved it, the adults were mostly crying by the end. It is no where near as visual as say, Finding Nemo, but it glorious to look at. Everything in this movie just fit together so well. Iwas surprised that the talking dog did not annoy me. He actually was pretty cool. And the villian is a crazy ass old man so you know old man jokes are just thrown out there left and right as the movie goes on. However, for a movie called UP, they really aren’t UP very long. They spend the majority of the movie dragging the floating house behind them as the go.

- It’s Pixar, they haven’t EVER let us down
- Partly Cloudy, the cartoon before it, was pretty funny
- the dynamic between Carl and his ‘sidekick’ is funny
- They told a very adult movie that kids will enjoy
- They weren’t really UP for very long

This is a solid 5 OF 5 because they did it again. I am telling you, see this movie in what ever format you want to, and remember to take someone special with you. And next year brings on Toy Story 3!!!

I couldn’t agree more. I think I can accurately describe myself as somewhat cold and as someone who struggles with showing emotion. However, the first 15 minutes of this movie made me cry like a freeking baby! I was full on sobbing each and ever time that guy touched the mailbox. This story begins with so many depressing themes like coping with the loss of a loved one, unfulfilled dreams, etc and then theres russle who, again, is a likeable character I feel for as his parents are divorced (at least its implied that theyre no longer together) and doesnt get to see his father very often and so he tries to perform to gain his affection :’( not to mention doug who has been scorned by the other dogs and even by his “master” whom he swears he loves… but this is a truly heart warming film and i wouldnt mind seeing it over and over and over again….

Our 5/5 Ratings dont refer to a movie being completely perfect, just that you will have a blast watching it. Worth every penny of the money you paid kinda thing. When we implement the new web design, i’ll make sure to address this in “our ratings system” page! Thanks for reminding me Nico!
