Second Opinion Movie Review: Transformers 2

second-opinion3

The Short Version:
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is the Perfect example of how a movie can be so bad, that its oh so good.

This is a possible new review format series, called Second Opinion. So all of the Critics have had their say on this movie, Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen – they unanimously hate it to death! Apparently hating the movie isnt enough anymore however, and they’ve now moved on to attacking anyone who like the film. The Film Snobs have declared anyone who enjoys the movie is a complete moron. Well Joe’s got something to say about that – Check it out here:

Transformers 2 Review: The Second Opinion

Response to the Critics Directly: Film School Rejects Rob Hunter

This is Angry Joe and I’m telling you that you need to go see this movie tonight if you haven’t already. While I may not be willing to give it a Full 5/5 rating like Gavin here, I am willing to fight for this movie.

That’s not to say that I think this is the Best movie ever. I thought Star Trek was a stronger Film overall. There were plenty of things in the movie that tried to fuck it all up. Almost all of them had me asking “why the fuck you put that stupid shit in here?”. The problem comes from what I think Bay and the Writers were trying to do under orders from the studio. Make this film appeal to everyone. Have something in it for every damn kinda person you can think of. For the kids you got annoying stereotype “funny” characters doing slapstick comedy, for the Parents you have Sam’s Parent who some how always managed to show up again and again, you’ve got what was clearly marketed towards people like myself – the gun fire, military hardware and robot on robot combat. You cant please everyone, but this film tries its damnedest to.All those pointless scenes that come along with the action dont last for more than a few seconds so it doesnt take away from the overall experience in the end.

Boring and unfun!?? You sir have no Soul!

Boring and unfun!?? You sir have no Soul!

The only thing that holds together this mash-up of every “awesome” movie scene you’ve ever seen in your life – is pacing. It moves at such a brisk pace that we don’t care about the particulars from one scene to the next – thats not the point of this movie. The point was to entertain me and on that note, Mission Accomplished to the Max. This is a movie I would see again.

Final Verdict

4/5

Spoony’s just an unfunny, pretentious, boorish, boring, brainless piece of shit who hates women and children. Don’t watch him.

I loved TF 2 and thought it was fun (hell i thought it was awesome when I got to go to the Smithsonian Air and Space museum for the Senior DC trip, cause that’s where the Jetfire plane resides in along with a cool small exhibit on Transformers classic and new!) I just knew that Transformers as a whole is hard to please EVERYBODY! you have Adults who grew up with the original cartoon and you have the little kids nowadays who are into the Transformers Rescue bots show..thing. It’s SO hard to make a movie that touches ALL aspects! but this one did the best it could and I praise that and I’m just glad that it got enough views to be given a third and EPIC FUCKING AWESOME SEQUEL!

I agree. I don’t get this whole new hipster movement of hating on traditional blockbuster movies and games.

I like to play CoD campaigns because riding on the back of a pickup truck and shooting at a train underground while the tunnel is collapsing is fucking fun as hell. And because of that, it’s a good game. It doesn’t have much else going for it, but that doesn’t bring it DOWN to be a 1 out of 10 game. And it doesn’t mean that I’m some sort of casual who doesn’t play games for the “right” reasons or anything. No, I play games every day, and my top 10 favorites list is comprised of some really obscure, intellectual and/or specific games like Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus.

Same goes for movies. I love to watch the Transformers series, because holy FUCK dude, look at the highly-detailed robot CGI action! Just the entire view of all those little gizmos as the jet turns into a robot in mid-air, then starts beating the shit out of something, it’s amazing. A visual marvel! A movie doesn’t have to excell at the storyline to be good. It just has to be OK. And these films have an OK storyline. Nothing new, nothing great, it’s all just OK, and that’s all you need in an action movie.

But saying this doesn’t mean I don’t like less visual movies. It doesn’t necessarily mean I prefer CGI to a good story. Angry Joe put it right. People have lost the sense of satisfaction from simply seeing cool shit happen. That critic he quotes said something along the lines of not believing that they made robot action boring.

Well let me ask this, then. What WOULDN’T be boring? Titanic with the transformers characters? Morgan Freeman voicing bumble bee? An in-depth robotic romance visual novel? Because as far as the action goes, you can’t. Fucking. Improve this.

I remember the cartoon that a watched anno 1991/92 an my beloved Dino Transformer and of course Optimus…………the movie I saw..the first one was dissapointing me. Too much focosing on teenie problems (It was titled “Transformers” or am I wrong???) and in the actions scenes I could not see who his the bad who is the good robot because it was all a big rolling piece of steel. For the kids surely a good movie but not for me as a Transformer veteran. Movie adaptations from games and cartoons seems to fail every time. Even Lord of the Rings (I love the Trilogy) cannot satisfie the fans of the books. I guess that is the ultimate border for moviemakers.
