Star Trek D-A-C is a bare bones game that has little to do with the movie its based on. It’s obvious that it was delivered to “cash-in” on the film, rather than contribute to the franchise.
The Review Video
The Long Version:
D-A-C is short for the three game modes available either offline or online for the game; Deathmatch, Assault, and Conquest. Though thats a little misleading as they all pretty boil down to the same gameplay experience and get old very quickly.
The game allows players to take control of one of three vessel classes on either the Federation or the Romulan fleets. Each ship has different attributes such as speed, weapons, and hull strength but essentially handle the same leaving us with no reason other than pure looks (I prefer the federation) to choose one side over the other.
Shoot at each other and pick up health and weapon orbs. You might be able to squeeze some life out of a session if you get some competent teammatea who stick together with you in a small “fleet”, picking off single opponents, but there not much else here and it shows. This game should have released at 400 MS points ($5) but instead sits at 800MS points – an obvious attempt to cash in on the movie hype at our expense. No thanks.
Download and play the Trail, but unless you’ve got points to burn and friends willing to do the same you’ll be just fine skipping this one.
What I Liked:
• Not much to offer players…
• The game has Pretty Colors and Nice Sound FX’s!
• You can try out the demo so you dont have to waste $10.
What I Hated:
• Wasted Potential. This is all they could come up with?
• AI cheats hardcore.
• Dark Athena loses its focus towards the end.
Making fun of other Reviewers, because I Stink at being one. Since Just Now.
IGN’s Hilary Goldstein – 6.1
Stuff like this is the reason numbered rating systems are f*cked these days.
Six Point One? Seriously? Point one? Can you please explain to me what merited the Point One?
Is Hilary a girl’s name or a guy’s name? Because its a well known fact that females cant review Star Trek Games. *I Joke*
(Correction I looked it up: Hilary is in fact a guy, not only that but he is the editor in chief of the xbox division. At this time id like to extend my sincere apologies to Hilary for any grief his insensitive parents may have caused him up until this point. It must get tiresome to read, “isn’t that a girls name?”, I’m sorry Hilary.)
Gamespot’s Kevin VanOrd – 4.0
More like it. I suppose he liked the pretty lights even more than I did.
Destructoid’s Brad Nicholson – 3
Dead on brother!
…and this Rounds, “Idiot Reviewer Award” goes to….
TeamXbox’s Dale Nardozzi “Legba” – 7.5
“Marketeers are getting smarter when it comes to the whole “video game coinciding with a movie’s launch” thing.”
How are they getting smarter? By fooling you into lapping up a movie-tie in game “lite” thats sh*t over a normal movie-tie in game? Sorry buddy but the rest of us see right through this one. Have fun with your DAC game, all 15 minutes of it.
..Well that’s it for this one, I hope you enjoyed Reviewing Reviewers. Where I make fun of my colleagues because i’m an asshole. See you next time!
Angry Joe Players Feedback
At this time i’d like to get the Angry Joe’rs feedback on not only the video but the segment “Reviewing Reviewers”.
Did you like it? Would you like to see more of these attached to our reviews? Is it too mean spirited? Or is it just looking out for your interests?
