5 Things that Pissed Me Off About Resident Evil 5
I’m Proud to Introduce our Newest Top List Series, Things That Pissed Me Off About Your Favorite Video Games!

From the EPIC Intro, “Since the Dawn of Time Gamers have ranted about games, but now one man looks to give them a voice, to be their champion and bring their concerns directly to the Publishers in an Open Letter. Game developers either hate him or love him, but NONE can deny his intentions to improve our favorite games and their sequels! Together with the power of Thousands of Gamers those who would join him and his army will be heard…..This is the 5 Reasons Resident Evil 5 Pissed Us Off (and how to improve the game).”
In this New Video Game Series we will be taking a look at a List of Things about Games that Piss us off! What Pissed You Off the Most about Your Games?

Resident Evil was a Great Game but there were definitely some annoying things about it, we point those out in this video and offer our suggestions on how to improve the series for Resident Evil 6!
About Our New Series!
Did the developers screw up something bad? Did they Over Promise and Over Hype their game? Was there a Missing Feature? Maybe their pulling the fast one on us with some Bullcrap Xbox Live or PSN DLC move? Or maybe the Camera and Controls of the Game were just too damn unbearable to even play through!
Anything and Everything Terrible about the game has a chance to make our List. The greatest strength of this Series is that its in your own words, the word of the Gamer. So Send us your ideas!
If the Game Publishers expect us to pay for Sequel after Sequel than we should expect from them new and fresh gaming ideas and innovative features in their future titles. Were no longer going to put up with barley noticeable incremental improvements from year to year. That’s Garbage! We will let them know exactly what we liked and what we didn’t! Most importantly a chance to offer suggestions on how to Improve the Game itself!
So Join us! Send us the next game you’d like to see in the Series and a List of things that pissed you off about it! You can even write in our fun Open Letter Format, directly to the developers/publishers. Angry Joe will make sure our concerns are heard!
Its about Damn time we Improve our Favorite Games by showing them some Tough Love!
Angry!
If anyone would like to donate their crappy next gen games for us to review or kick us a few bucks to help with the video parodies, website costs and gamefly subcription please help us out! We will “Loe” you!

And Also being alone is one of the most good things they screwed up on RE5, And also the idea is to survive Dead-living zombies not monsters who ride bikes are F*****G kidding me.

Nice, Really Great, I coudn’t agree more with you, and one more thing, on the computer version the mouse view really sucks ass, you can’t cosntrate on the target the mouse keep rotating around.

Yeah I agree with the points raised in the video. I think the main thing to remember is that Shinji Mikami was not involved, and that’s why they screwed up so bad. I fear for RE6 because of the same reason, but we will see what they do. I enjoyed your suggestion about action and survival modes, I made a similar point a while ago. But the survival mode still should not be the same as how RE5 played. Regarding an AI partner – I think they need to get rid of that altogether, or at least make it entirely optional. For me it ruined the atmosphere of a game where you are supposed to be caustrophobic and lonely, and instead you had a hot chick by your side most of the time, totally changed how it felt, and it felt like hairy balls
Report this comment
Well, I don’t know about you guys, but I find it ridiculous what Capcom is doing to this amazing series. I mean, RE used to be a survival horror, like other zombie games (like Left 4 Dead and Dead Island), I mean, you had the feeling that you were on your own, alone against a zombified world, where all that used to mattered was surviving, now, the feeling I honestly get is that some kind of Anti-Zombie specialized army is sent by the government to fight an intelligent zombie society that plans to take over the world. Like a war, for example? I mean, WTF? Zombie games are NOT supposed to be wars. They are supposed to be you against the zombies, fighting only, and ONLY for survival. It’s what RE used to be. Honestly, RE died after 4. RE 4 was the last great one. RE 5 is not bad, but if I say it didn’t disappoint me, I will be telling a big, HUGE lie.
Personally I believe that RE should go back to it’s old style; the fixed camera, claustrophobia educing, jump scare ridden style. I know, modern gamers would probably slap me upside the head for even suggesting this but I personally think that these elements made Resident Evil… well, Resident Evil. The old RE games was designed to give players a sense of looming terror (RE3 took the cake on this one). For example, in RE3 you are in an alley way; close together and not a lot of space to move around. Your low on ammo and have only a few herbs to keep you going. You’re constantly telling the game, “Please don’t let him show up, please don’t let him show up.” And them, BAM! Nemesis shows up. Now that is true terror. RE5 took this out almost completely. You know where enemies are, they aren’t that intimidating, let alone horrific. You can pretty much mow down your enemies with ease, and some of the weapons are too overpowered. In previous RE games, players didn’t have the luxury of getting their hands on over powered weapons, and when they did, there was very little ammo for it. The one thing that I am willing to give RE5 is the “Lost in Nightmares” DLC. This DLC came close to reenacting the sense of looming terror like the old RE had. They even went as far as to giving you only a handgun and then later taking it away from you. And you have these enemies constantly hunting you down. So I would say that “Lost in Nightmares” would be the only good thing about RE (For me at least). But other than that, it’s just not the Resident Evil I love.

I completely agree, I remember watching my cousin play the original Resident Evil series as a child and it gave me nightmares on and off for years after, as hilarious as that may sound to others, even to me. But I believe that the Resident Evil series has started to die from the make Resident Evil 4 in my opinion and it’s a damn shame. Even Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City looks like it could be an aborted baby between ‘Resident Evil’ and Call of Duty which, honestly, absolutely sickens me to show how desperate Capcom may have become but this isn’t the only franchise they’re messing up, they’re also messing up the hard worked on Devil May Cry series, which I am a big fan of, by allowing Ninja Theory to practically take all the work they have done on it, screw it up and throw it in the bin by changing both the character, story behind him as well as the gameplay AND graphics which I have noticed, alot of the fans absolutely despise. It is simply sounding like Capcom don’t care anymore about some of their biggest franchises which in the end of the day, is going to cost them money when the gamers eventually stop paying out money for them or less money anyway. I am unsure what to even THINK of Capcom in the current situations and ‘games’ they’re throwing out to their much loyal fans and assume that they will eventually go down hill to the point of Capcom possibly closing down if they continue to ignore their fans and put out the kind of crap they have been doing.

i think RE series have died right after RE4 and in the release of RE5 back in RE4 leon used to work all by him self and it’s like in real life some parts in the game require two person to get pass it but wow!! all parts in RE5 needs two persons all of a sudden even weak doors needed two peopls to knock it open ??
never liked the bonuses that you unlock in RE5.
never liked the stupid partner system.
never liked the stupid dying system they are copying gears of war series with that now??.
never liked the online especially the versus ” never bought them because i got the gold edition ” anyway the online is so slow you press the buttons and wait for the commands to shows in the game well that’s happens with me plus even though i got the platinum trophy for RE5 but i never collect all the stupid online trophy for it it’s way too hard to get them.
for a new RE game actually i’m not existed about it all i wished for is that capcom will just remake the classic RE games with the current gen graphics well like they did for the gamecube RE 1 remake and RE zero remake sure RE zero is not the best but the classic RE games are the RE games we need to play those are the real survival horror RE games.

my list would be similar but i would strike away 2 and instead add the story line into that spot, in resident evil five they seem to turn an accidental outbreak in the arklay mountains and turn it into bio terrorism. why do they feel like they have to encorperate terrorism into a fricken resident evil game i mean seriously. they also *spoilers* “kill off jill” off screen and bring her back. wtf? and a.d.d. moment why is jill blonde? as a fan of the first 5 (including code veronica) i was hoping that after changing it p abit from 4 they would go back to a more traditional style of resident evil bringing back chris redfeild for a new game. hell maybe you could tell us whats happened since rockfort island at least with leon we found out he was working for the government. and what ever happened with barry and rebecca. the two other living stars members? blah its just iratating in general there was so much potential and i think it was squandered alot. the game only hit ok when it could have been truely excellent heres hoping that the survival horror franchise regains one of its best in resident evil 6

Only played the demo, but…
1. Only thing people missed writing – RE5 was only really irritating when it came to shaking off zombies. Control stick? Is there a way to reconfigure… I’m not so interested in breaking my controller.
Things I hate about RE5.
1. RE5 is not survival horror. As far as the horror element goes, RE5 is a joke. Half of the game is in broad day light.
2. Replay value is horrible. Once you’ve beaten the game once, you’ve seen everything RE5 has to offer. Since there is no horror element, the game is boring, and there is nothing new to be found.
3. Sheva and the idea of a partner is stupid for a single player game. I didn’t pay to have some dumb bitch following me around the entire game. If the developers were smart, having a partner would be optional, maybe an unlockable after beating the game once, and there would be a variety of partners available, perhaps maybe all of the characters from mercenaries. This would mean that partners wouldn’t exist in cut scenes or in the story, but that is fine by me, considering the story for this game sucks and isn’t scary.
4. Inventory. Quite simply, this real time system sucks. Previously you had a pause in the game when you wanted to change weapons or use an item. Now you have to change weapons or items while you are being attacked. This pretty much wrecks the idea of planning your next move, not to mention you BARELY have any inventory available.
5. DLC. As mentioned in the above video, the DLC is bullshit. I’ve heard rumors that the DLC was already on some disks of a particular version, and was unlockable after paying for it. When I pay 60 dollars, I want the full game. If you want a total of 80 bucks for your game, release the full game for 80 bucks, but don’t have me pay 60 dollars and then later tell me I need to give you another 20 for content that already exists.
6. The game is entirely too short. Just the fact that one of the unlockables is the infinite RPG, which you get for beating the game in under 5 hours says enough about this subject. My first play through of Resident Evil 4 took me about 20 hours. If a game can be beaten in less than 5 hours, is it really worth the 60 bucks? I don’t think so.
7. There are no Yellow Herbs to increase your health, you just magically start at full health. Why? Isn’t RE5 supposed to have more content that RE4 since it was developed later than RE4? They couldn’t have possibly added more content? No, instead they took a step back.
8. Knifing is a joke. Not only is the knife incredibly weak compared to the RE4 knife, the fact that you can now stomp downed zombies renders it completely useless. In RE4 the knife was useful because you could use it on downed enemies instead of shooting, which would save you quite a bit of ammo. Now it is garbage.
9. Why are there AK wielding enemies in a zombie game? Being shot at by “zombies” wearing military gear is not horrifying. I want to play a survival horror game, not Resident of Duty. No more zombies with guns, please.
10. Versus is an absolute joke. The outcome of the game is based on who picks up the rocket launchers and shotguns. Here is how a versus game usually plays out. One team will have a small lead on another team by picking up rockets and shotguns. That team will hide in a certain area of the map where there is 1 entrance. If the other players attack, they will be killed by the campers. If they don’t attack, the time limit will run out and they will lose. The outcome of the game is decided within the first 30 seconds by the game who picks up rockets and shotguns first. DO NOT BUY VERSUS. This is one of the biggest rip off DLC’s I’ve ever seen in my life.
My Advice For Future RE Games…
Do NOT buy Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City. Based on the shit that RE5 is and the trailer for ORC, Resident Evil will never return to the survival horror game it once was. In ORC, you are chasing Leon around with a team of elite soldiers that can cloak. It looks like they’re trying to combine Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty, and Crysis 2 into one game. Again, do NOT buy this game, I can guarantee you it will be complete shit. Instead, you should look into buying the RE4 and Code Veronica X HD re-releases on the 360 and or PS3. These games are way the hell better than 5, and I can damn near guarantee you they are better than Left for Duty Evil Racoon City 6 will ever be.
Please look at what I’m saying here. Most of these game companies are simply milking as much as they can off of good titles. I will give you some examples.
Duke Nukem Forever – Nowhere NEAR as good as the old Duke Nukem games, but people bought it because it had the title Duke Nukem on it.
Resident Evil 5 – Not a survival horror game like all other RE games, but everyone bought it because it had the RE title.
Call of Duty MW2 – Again, nothing like CoD4 or CoD WaW. Instant kills, commando, one man army noob tubes, the list goes on, but everyone got a boner over this game because it had the Call of Duty title on it.
Fable 3 – Another one. Watch Joe’s rant on this game. Fable 1 and Fable TLC were great games, and were a breath of fresh air among RPG players. What do we have now, 2 games later? Absolut shit, but it sold a lot of copies because it has the Fable title.
Notice a pattern here? Do you really think Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City will be any different? Think about it.

To be honest… to the people that wanna restore the survival horror element from RE1-RE3?
RE5 is sorta like that in the controls sense – you can’t really dodge. And there’s no cover mechanic. And there’s massive potential for wonky camera angles and slow, awkward turning.
RE6 oughta modernize – cover style combat, brink’s parcore, etc.
Either that, or – simply retain the ‘action’ element of RE5, but return to the survival horror elements as well. Big houses that need exploring – okay. Have a monster that chases you constantly. Etc.
I think it can be done well.

Okay… I have slowly put down my fanboy sword and kick it aside… I will hear you out…
5. I agree, her AI isn’t brilliant… Or Chris’s AI isn’t brilliant since i play as Sheva, but one thing i did love was when you pointed your gun in her direction, she got the fuck out of the way, INSTANTLY… So that’s a plus… Not big, but still…
4. I have to disagree Joe… I really do… Weak Melee? Um, what about the famous Skull Crusher (Sheva’s thighs to the rescue) Or the destructive punch known as the Hay-maker (Chris Falcon punch) Also to do these special attacks aren’t hard with an AI, as long as you know what to do… But doing it with a friend… Is just lovely… Plus when they do it, you have the option to compliment them in game… So i don’t agree with this one… P.S The Knife isn’t for combat… It doesn’t work…
3. I’ve gotten use to DLC… They made a DLC for Versus? I got this game on Steam, yeah… I’m a PC gamer so maybe this is towards console gamers… But, fuck it… I still have a say… From what i heard… If your angry that Versus is DLC, then why aren’t people raging at EA making you pay for online… That means people who buy a used Bad Company Battlefield 2 have to buy a code… It’s really no different… Also, just because on person of the company calls bs on us, doesn’t turn everyone into that building into the devil…
PLUS, dissing the multiplayer isn’t to fair… Have you ever played it online… Though you must stop to shoot, doesn’t mean you can’t turn left and right to shoot someone who is moving…
2. I love these controls… I’m not lying… I love setting the controls in the game to RE4 style… When i do play it on a console… It’s what makes the game experience unique and you adapt to it, as long as you have something i love calling endurance, plus opening your inventory in real time is great… It’s like you having the option to regroup and give each other ammo… It adds to the gameplay… But of course people bitch about it… I guess to them, this game should have just been a typical third person shooter… *sigh*
1. I have no issue with the direction the game has gone… Cause lets look at it like this, they have a virus… Which makes slow moving zombies and unstoppable mutants… Would terrorist… I dunno… Perhaps try to upgrade this virus… So instead of slow moving, moaning zombies (which i love), but they can be more deadly… Plus, why does this argument come up on this game… But not Resident Evil 4… Running away from a boulder isn’t apart of an ACTION GAME? I am okay with what they did, the virus upgraded and changed… As it would have… There were still mutants, still moments of fear… example… Reaper… Tell me you could fight that thing, without the fear of it cornering you…
So yeah… Angry Joe… I guess i don’t agree with ya much on this… So let me just pick up my fanboy sword and leave respectfully…

This game was good *SPOILER ALERT* I don’t like how Chis and Sheva during a cutscene would just watch the people do something, when excella had the brief cases they shoulda head shotted her. or like when they just let irving inject the virus in himself they should’ve shot him. its funny how during the cutscenes they have good aim but when chris hoots at excella he shoots the brief case. wth is up with that?____________________________________________________________________________ I think in resident evil 6 however, they should bring the T-virus back, but not just that, instead of the game just bing co-op the game should feature Leon,Chris,Claire, and jill in seperate modes, being able to switch character, maybe playing with up to 1-4 players or go online. The game should include exclusive downloadable content some free, some costing Microsoft Points or w/e platform. The game should include not just the T-virus but maybe all the other things in the past RE prequels and something that is new.__________________________________________________________________________________ That’s all folks!

i agree with all 5 points here , #1 particularly. i miss the camera and enviroment style of teh older resident evil games RE4 and RE 5 jsut don’t feel like resident evil becasue of this new “action” direction. I also hate the story direction , i want real zombies again , the worse evil of teh story direction is this continually briing old chars back , leon is now pres’s duaghter’s security ? chris is now a BSAA member ? , it feels like canned ham covered witha heavy laod of cheese. THE ONLY times they did this that felt right was in Resident 3 (because showing jill excaping raccon city made sense) and RE:code veronica (because claire never did find chris in RE 2) but 4 and 5 should have had COMPETELY new cast member not just new side kick chars. not only would have new cast member’s sold the games better as a new spin on rtesident evil , it also would have made the stories feel less cheesy.
oh and resident evil 5′s “jill” plot was definitely “SUPER SIZE cheese me up ” cheese burger feeling
First she dies (boo whoo poor lonely chris) , but then you relize (well before the game shows you her) that she is controled by wesker … LAME ALERT !!! saw it coming a mile away, i would have prefered it if she had just really died in chris’ flash backs, I would have cared more abotu chri’s fight with wesker ans wella s cared about jill more as cahracter in general but this stupid cheese-tastic plot line actually made me care LESS about jill even when i go back and re-play RE 1 or 3 now!
now don’t ge me wrong i loved the game play in this game as well and i still play it , but to me it jsut inst RE5 , like the movies the game series took a nose dive in what is believable in the story , and took a nose dive in feeling like survival horror .

You canot go in 2 directions on same time .(Action and Survival). No product no game has ever been sucsesful at doing thing like this.
Capcom has to pick what they want to do:
a) Make it ACTION game like Gears of war and lose Resident evil 1 and 2 fans and try to find new customers for Action Resident Evil.
b) Stay in the same SURVIVAL mode with almost no ammo hard controls dark enviroments and have same customers they had for resident evil 1 2 and maybe 3 .
AND WTF is this thing about zombies fireing AK-47 and waving around with Axes? What happend to the normal zombies?NOW THIS IS A BS. Wasnt Resident Evil game suppose to be about normal zombies outbreake? Or is it becoming terorist hunt game like Rainbow Six?

I would like them to go back to the first story, you know the one that has ZOMBIES in it.
Im sick of this crap, I dont care what anybody says they are not zombies if they use pitchforks and guns. Zombies bite ppl it’s common knowledge. I would like to go back to the original story.
This story did not scare me but the opposite, It MADE ME LAUGH!
A resident evil game should never be that way.

Capcom completely ignored everything Joe said, which i completely agreed with all of it! (spoiler alert) killing wesker basically ended the entire series i see no way which resident evil 6 can work unless it takes place before resident evil 5. Operation raccoon city looks worse and even more action oriented than resident evil 5!
What made resident evil 1,2 and 3 work was the fact that back then nobody was expert zombie killers where in resident evil 5 they had a team (BSAA) which was trained to kill zombies i kinda felt this with dead space 2.
Sort it out Capcom give us resident evil 6 and make it scary as shit!
no more BS!

Actually, I thought that placing the game in Africa was a brilliant and ballsy move, a run-down place perfect for a truly dark, serious history.
Instead I got bathed in cheese every time someone opens their damn mouth and the cliché storm starts, clichés so tired that I could detect them if even if I was in the seemingly 12-year-old target audience. Whesker sounds so stereotypical evil that I was waiting for the moment when he ties Sheva to a train track. His sense of fashion maybe could cut in 1999, mixing that coat ripped off from Matrix with surfer glasses bought from a Nigerian peddler. Excella was also horrible – the actress seem to have missed her 9th grade geography classes, confusing Italy with Russia . But at least I had something to place my eyes on and while being insulted by her corny femme fatale impression. That’s a privilege I didn’t have with that executive guy that turns into Leviathan from thin air (water?). That actor delivery was many time more stomach-turning than festering zombie goo.
I agree with the gameplay elements criticized here, as the godawful smallish inventory. Seems Capcom thought it was a good idea replacing ammo scarcity with inventory scarcity. But he forgot about one element: quick-time events. Quicktime events are always a bad idea, but quicktime events after long, unskipabble cutscenes (Excella)? Or worse, quicktime events popping out without warning, two minutes into a cutscene, after you have left your controller on the table to grab a beer? Give me a break (literaly), Capcom.
Sometimes I laughed at how many obsolete design ideas could be used so insistently and unapologetically in a 2009 game.

*SPOILERS aLERT*
the main parts that i was a little disapointed about which were not included in the list is the characterization and some of the story:
yes, it is going into action series mode, which i hate with all my heart but the whole thing seems dumb, one, why is chris taking steroids, two, why should we help Jill in RE1 if we know in RE5 wesker gets to her anyway, third, again with jill, WHERE DID SHE COME FROM?! i dont know if they explain it (yes i have not played much of the game) but realy, where would Jill fit into this, just jumping outuh no where, fourth, this is just a Nicho-Mania Suggestion (guess what its ode to…if you dont know, you need help): if you want to start really new or test ideas, make a different game, and if you want to make a sequal in RE, but not upset fans with some adjustments, use the little girl in RE2, she has to have grown up by now, and you can change her appearance also, and you can add new characters from there, it isn’t hard Capcom, and im so sad that such a grand series is going to the minds of a DLCD-er (Downloadable Content Downgrader), this has been angry j-I MEaN nicho-mania and i hope angry joe does read these and hopefull this (and possibly in a video)

dude i completely disagree with everything you guys said in the video! have you played resident evil 4?! the controls for that game (given that it was meant for the gamecube) much more annoying and the inventory i think is a major improvement instead of having to hope you have enough time to open a puase like inventory screen before you get killed to heal yourself. im not bashing on re 4 but re5 is a major improvement and i see nothing wrong with it and on the ps3 versus is already on the disc and you dont have to buy it. and wesker clearly states he “wants to be god” angry joe i love your reviews but this is the one i cant agree with you on

Have you watched xplay? they also did a review for this game and they said it had a hint of racism and they thought that with all the dodging you had to do, it would have probably been better to have added a dodge button. Now I have not played the game but I also agree that the real time screen is a chore and the lack of alot of ammo really makes it frustrating. But the most disappointing thing I didn’t like about the game is that enemies you face don’t even look like real zombies. You can’t call them zombies if their mouth splits open like some freaky alien you’d probably find in Dead Space. I think the movie was inspired by this game.

What killed the series was RE4. I keep hearing everybody saying that the 4th game was survival horror like the old ones. To me both Re4 and 5 was not survival horror. They both felt like an action gallery shooters except you can walk or run but have to be rooted to a spot in order to shoot. Ok that does not create tension or makes it scary. Its annoying and a cheap cop out. Sure all the other RE titles did the same thing but at least we had an auto aim on the predecessors to 4 and 5. That helps the game play to be balanced. Where as a TPS like RE4 and 5 there is no balance. Capcom should take a dozen notes from Visceral on Dead Space for RE6. In Dead Space you can walk, aim and shoot at the same time. Has true survival horror elements to the game play and in my opinion the controls are better. What capcom needs to do is go back to the roots of the series and take notes from Dead Space, Metal Gear Solid 2 and there old bady RE Code Veronica. I can agree that the RE series needed a new mechanic for aiming. But do it right where you can move and shoot at the same time. Also take another note from MGS2. The mechanic that impressed me the most is you can switch between third person to first person to get better aimin. So put back the camera angles you had in CVX and a THS aiming mechanic that you can switch too. Can you imagine how sick that would be?

C*apcom did not want to give us a VERSUS PC version. Then a hacker just unlocked it from the exe file;) now pc users can use versus mode in pc. IT Was completelly inside the dvd. All he needed to do was unlock it by editing some lines of code in the exe… AND BOAHALA!:D.
I tottally agree with you. This is just another game with chris jill wesker modelslike if it was a mod from another game. I cant see anything from the previous games 1 23 … were best! i hope 6 can be like the old ones!
Thank you for your review, i hope capcom look at it and givea change for once!!!!

Joe, all of the things you pointed out are great reasons. The single thing I want developed from Resident Evil is the story. RE4 brought a new aspect to the story, which made me excited to see how Las Plagas was going to fit with the T&G Viruses (going deep into story territory here). Uruboros is NOT what any RE had in mind, you can just see that it doesn’t mesh with the story line. I’ve always loved zombies, and all of the Resident Evil fans do too, so WHY would you cut them out?
Not only that, but no character, even the main ones have felt important in Resident Evil 5. They’ve even beat the same horse by casting Chris and Jill. Leon, okay, yes he was in a bit too. But where’s Barry? How about Rebecca? H.U.N.K.? Heck, why not even Sherry Birkin? Let’s see the entire cast get good segments in the next installments. I know, I’m beating my chest by screaming “I’M A FANBOY, GIVE ME WHAT I DESERVE BECAUSE I’M LOYAL!!!” ,but I feel it has to be said, because the RE is just so interesting, that I feel that it’s going to take a lot to ressurect the near-dead corpse of the story line.
With all of this being said, I will still buy RE6, but if Capcom still goes in the same direction, the franchise is going to die, and I’m not going down with that ship.

I agree with what you said and it was a good review. I trust you for reviews over anyone else. But ok something big that was missed in this review was the awful story. Re5′s story sucked, for people who know the game they know that Wesker wanted to take control of umbrella to make MONEY. He wants to get rich and in past games his motivation has always been about getting some virus to strengthen his own company. WHY does he all of a sudden want to kill off everyone???? Another huge part of the plot that makes no sense is if Wesker has some heart monitor (that he put in Jill) which gives her super powers, why does he only use it on her and not all of the people he infected? there was just no time put into the story and old Resident Evil fan like me who have played most of the games are furious when Capcom butchers the plot.
Another problem was the whole race issue which dammed the game from the start. Since capcom was called racist for white chris shooting black zombies they made two changes. 1- make a black co-lead role in sheva. 2 put in lots of white and hispanic looking zombies to be politically correct. The problem is that you are in AFRICA, just make the game realistic, its not racist to have the main character of a series killing black zombies if he’s in Africa. I think they should have put the game in another location, but that’s another story.

As a die-hard RE fan I have to comment on this story bit a little;
“for people who know the game they know that Wesker wanted to take control of umbrella to make MONEY. He wants to get rich and in past games his motivation has always been about getting some virus to strengthen his own company.”
At no point do we get a clear explanation for Wesker’s motivations in any game beyond his immediate goals. In 1 he wanted to leave Umbrella, so he needed the Tyrant and it’s battle data for his new employer. Plus he makes it look like he died when the tyrant guts him, so Umbrella won’t realise what happened until it’s too late. His next apperance in CV he’s just after the T-Veronica virus, and the only sense of motivation we get is that he wants it because it’s powerful. In 4 he’s after Las Plagas. Again, we don’t get any word on what he wants it for beyond rebuilding Umbrella (the first time it’s even mentioned that he wants to control it). Krasuer wants to recreate Umbrella to bring balance and order, but it’s unlikely that was Wesker’s goal. The closest thing we get to an explaination is Ada’s hypothetsis that Umbrella represented power for Wesker, and that’s what he’s been after all along. That’s the motivation 5 went through and it’s the one that’s the most consistant. At no point in the series does Wesker care about money, he’s always been about getting out of Umbrella’s control and gaining more power.
“Another huge part of the plot that makes no sense is if Wesker has some heart monitor (that he put in Jill) which gives her super powers, why does he only use it on her and not all of the people he infected?”
The chest device is just to administer P30, which is what gives her the speed, strength and endurance upgrade as well as keeping her under control. As to why he doesn’t give them out, Las Plagas guarnteed the loyalty of all the people he infected, and they were already pretty damn tough. So he didn’t need to secure their loyalty, had no idea of what would happen if you mixed Plagas and P30, and he already had hundreds of Manji who he didn’t care about beyond “kill or slow down anyone bothering me.” Besides them there was only Irving, who Wesker probably wanted dead for being so annoying, and Excella, who was just a means to an (plus two-seconds away from slipping out of her dress and jumping him, so no need to secure her loyalty). The only reason he used it on Jill was because she couldn’t be infected by Urorboros (as stated in her file) and he wanted her around to screw with Chris’ head when he inevitiably showed up.
I also get the impression Wesker hates everyone he works with. Look at CV; the guys he brought with him are wearing vests that explode if you shoot at them. Do you think he told them they’d do that or he said something like “Everyone, put these flak jackets on. It’s for your own safety.”
“there was just no time put into the story and old Resident Evil fan like me who have played most of the games are furious when Capcom butchers the plot.”
Let’s not kid ourselves here, RE is never going to win any “best written” awards. It’s Capcom’s tribute to B-Grade horror movies, and there were plenty of plot holes before 5 came out. Not to mention how contrived some of the outbreaks are; despite specialising in biological weapons nobody in Umbrella has heard of a quarantene, basic safety protocols, safe work environments isolated so if an outbreak occurs it’ll be quickly contained, etc.. So saying they butchered the plot is really pushing it.
“2 put in lots of white and hispanic looking zombies to be politically correct. The problem is that you are in AFRICA, just make the game realistic,”
It IS realistic. It’s not just black people in Africa, there are plenty of white and arabic people in Africa too (for example, Egypt. It’s got a lot of Arabic people and is in Africa). The ratio of black-white-arabic you see in the game is fairly accurate to several locations accross the continent.

I think you did a great job reviewing this, and I hope Capcom will at least learn something from it. Resident Evil 2 was the first I played from the series, but it is still my favourite – if I can say – from every game I’ve ever played. I cannot say much about the first four reasons, other than I agree, but I can say a lot about the last.
It started with Resident Evil 4, and I was eager to see the fifth episode, but it turned out to be a big disappointment. They killed the survival horror and the whole atmosphere of the franchise which we all adore so much. Give us back the dark hallways instead of the daylight and barbed fences. Give us back the shitload of fright we had, covering in the corner, afraid to step through the door, instead of seeing large horde of zombies in the distance, preparing to fire that 3 or 4 bullets we have. Give us back the mistery, that emitts throughout the gameplay – make it a crime story. Give us back the puzzles which all were put together throughout the whole game; give us a large building, or buildings instead of a fucking desert in africa; give us back the nasty boss fights, the need to plunder a thousand gerenades and ammo into the creature; and for god’s sake, give us back the T-Virus and Umbrella Inc.!!!
As a last thought, I’d like to point out that Capcom made a wonderful piece of work with Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. I’d like to point out, that it has an UNFINISHED end, and leaves many questions open (Wesker taking away Steve-s body for example); and most of all the fact that they need to stop Umbrella. I’ve waited long for a sequel of that game, and instead I get these – sorry for the use of word – cheap excuses of Resident Evil like 4 or 5.
I hope for the best in the upcoming game, whenever it will be made. I hope it will be again, Resident Evil.
