Alice In Wonderland

AIW LOGO 22 APR 09 B

STONE HERE, and I have an obsession with Tim Burton in case you couldn’t tell from my 10 Things list. This post was originally set to come up next month, but damn if the trailer for it didn’t get leaked just now. Too excited to wait! I have been really, really following his work since I was a kid, and when he took on Alice in Wonderland, I knew we were going to see something amazing. I love the Alice stories, love the Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor. I love the world of Wonderland in both series, but Looking Glass Wars has that twisted edge I always pictured and that is something Tim Burton will bring to his Alice.

I could go on and on about how it is going to rock, but I think I’ll let pictures do the talking for me. When you get done here, show some more Tim Burton love by checking out my 10 Things post.

Am I the only one around here that has gotten sick of Timmy Burton and Depp? I’m sorry.. but I don’t see him being as versatile of an actor as many of you claim. Sparrow, Charlie (chocolate factory), and the Mad Hatter (hell even his Ed Wood and Hunter S. Thompson characters) were all very very similar with very little separating each character type (all slightly insane, and overacts quite a bit).

I’m actually going to skip this film. I saw Sweeney Todd, and it was disappointing that Tim couldn’t come up with an idea of his own. I’d prefer it if he would restrict his Depp addiction, and use different actors… maybe one with some royal Shakespeare training? Perhaps someone who’s actually acted on a stage? I’ve seen Alice in Wonderland a TON of times, (stage and animated) and after seeing this teaser… I’m not terribly impressed. It’s an old story. And we all know that Burton can come up with his own ideas and not rip off long dead writers.

Sorry, AJA. I’m not interested in this travesty of a director and actor… Get a new idea, Timmy and stop ramming down these old, tired ideas down our throats with a new paint job… (I do recall Joe saying something about taking an old game and slapping newer stuff on it to call it a “new” game… I call the same foul on this film.)

Fuck the only movie I’ve seen of his that I actually found enjoyable was Mars Attacks. I grew out of Batman and Batman Returns after I saw it on VHS three times.

Depp is a really good actor considering. He doesnt play the same guy in every movie like other Hollywood types. Nick Cage is the same guy in every movie for example. You never see one of his movies and go Is That Nic Cage? But with Depp, each role is unique. He’s pretty awesome.

thats because Johnny Depp is an actor and Cage is a movie star.

You can never really compare actors with movie stars, that would be like, comparing an artist to a designer or a nymphomaniac to a whore.

I would like to say that movie stars are good at what they do but they dont really do much. This probably makes me sound a bit snobbish but its true. In ever movie Keanu Reeves is in he plays Keanu Reeves just like Julia Robberts plays Julia Robberts and Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Then you have actors like Depp, Jack Nickleson and Gary Oldman, real actors who will take on any part that interests and excites them which ends up with them doing really memorable performances.

I do think Burton over uses Depp though. i know alot of directors come back to the same actors and there is obviously something between the 2 of them much like there is between Burton and Elfman but it would be nice to see Burton working with anouther extreamly tallented actor who he hasnt worked with yet and maybe push forward the career of anouther actor much in the way he did with Depp.

Back on the actor vs movie star thing a second. countless times i see this guy at the top of best actors of all time and alot of film buffs and critics hail as one of the best actors ever but i never see it. Al Pachino. Am I missing something? I mean he plays the Al Pachino parts in movies well but… ahh im getting way off course here.

      TL;DR Depp FTW

Damn this looks good. I was a bit skeptical when I saw the poster of the Mad Hatter… seemed a bit too cartoonish to me, but after seeing the characters in action I am super excited! It was a no brainer for Burton to make this film. Long wait though…
