Left 4 Dead 2: Bullsh*t or Not?
The upcoming Left 4 Dead 2 has been causing some controversy.
“Fans” are boycotting the game in large numbers, rejecting it as insufficient to warrant a sequel. Demanding the content for the original game they were promised. Joe uses the new Bullsh*t Translator to get to the Truth!
What do you Angry Players have to say?
Should the Boycott group quit pissing and moaning like impotent jerks? Or do they make some very real and valid points?

I got the solution! Do like me: take some lame, over-estimated, money-wasting, fans-deceiving games like…geez, I’m just shooting p some random names, like FABLE 2, LEFT 4 DEAD and STAR WARS:THE FORCE UNLEASHED (which we almost all bought because producers said things like : It’s awesome! or bullshit like that) and trade it or sell it in order to buy great games like Assassin’s Creed 2 or others like that. Awesome solution, heh?
I think i’ll actually have to agree with the boycotters. I seem to like l4d too much to move on to l4d2 (or at least until it’s cracked hehe)
Personally, I believe the boycotters have every right to be angry. Mind you, I’m not really sided with the idea that ‘everything should be free’ as some people think. However, the idea that they announced a sequel so shortly after the game came out and just bundled all the content into it that they were originally going to have is just a bad idea when it comes to customers.
Now that the gaming industry has become as large as it has, it seems that companies are trying to constantly nickle and dime its players. Not only that, but they believe all gamers to be complete idiots to milk money out of.
By supporting this, you’re telling companies that you don’t mind being treated like trash, to be lied to, and in turn to have your money taken at every little turn in the road. Passing off minor updates and such as a new game is infuriating, especially when they blatantly say that the content was originally going to be for the first game as free updates.
Mind you, I’m not saying that it won’t be better than the original. By default, I don’t think thats really possible. Especially when you consider that the content that makes up the sequel is content that was to be added, and improve upon the first game. It will be better in the same sense that a patch to an existing game that adds content or fixes bugs is better than the game before it was patched.
What I am saying, however, is that acting like a mindless sheep, and not only accepting the game, but also PRAISING them for it will only cause problems down the line. Boycotts are there to serve a purpose much like strikes. They are to show those who are in power that we’re not just mindless drones to be pushed around.
Some of you may be content to side with them, and in a way I can’t entirely blame you. Without any support, the series will likely die where it stands. But, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t question their decisions, or feel outrage at their actions. Even doing so much as withholding purchasing the game day one would send at least some manner of message. Especially if people pledge to not buy it or not buy it till X date.

Ok, first off. I pre-ordered this game because I had faith that it would be just as great as the first Left 4 Dead. Now, joe, Why be an ass and boycott Left 4 Dead 2? Noone gives a sh*t about your opnion, so keep it to yourself so other people can enjoy another Valve game. No point in even responding to this comment with something witty.

I wandered on to here through the avgn’s site, I think this whole griping of L4D2 is quite valid-ish. Though I was thinking maybe they’re doing w/e the fuck it is they did with team fortress, hardly do anything with the 1st one then give you tons more for the sequel.
I do admit though the characters this time around suck ass. It feels kind of forced, and where is the Asian survivor damn it?, or a Mexican?
I do acknowledge the placement is were the ratio may be higher correctly speaking, but seriously? these guys seem less colorful this time around.
I really hope they aren’t turning lazy like Nintendo seems to have, I’m not boycotting but I’ll be disappointed if this game feels unfinished like the whole idea of the sequel did.
Wandered onto this from the Ncritic, who i wandered onto from AVGN, this stuff is great. Im totally with you on the 2nd release bullshit opinion. I dont think l4d had that much dev time anyway seeing that it used the source engine, model importer and pretty much everything else you can do with vhammer as there is an unofficial sdk out there now, well it was always there you had it all along . . except im not that great of a modder to configure all of the files properly so i managed to make a box room and then that was that, game update came and i couldnt be bothered anymore. My personal opinion is that its a mod off a mod, they didnt realise how popular it would be, realised that adding new content especially entitys that arent in the game would be hard, long and halt other projects that they decided to go . . you know what, fuck it work on the sdk, has a game out with it (report l4d with new chars, levels) then we are ready to barrage the fuck out of it with dlc. Thats what i think anyway, but joe i think hits it right with “We didnt think it would be that poular” the in game commentary says that it was just CS with full bots with just knives, they just skinned zombies and made them come to you. Great game and if your on a reasonable wage just get the shit anyway and take it up the arse cos this isnt the first and last time this is going to happen
The boycotters have some damn good points. But I’m siding with the people are going to buy the game. Fire bullets, 2 new zombies, a fireproof zombie (zombies in the hazmat suit) a grenade launcher, the AK-47, diffrent guns, and from what I heard an actual storyline. I’d say that is enough for me.

Can I borrow your Bullshit translator sometime? I’ve only played left for dead a few times, no XBOX readily available at home that often and the ones at school are constantly occupied. Still what times I have played I enjoyed. I can understand the boycott group, it sucks to hear that what you were promised by a company you trusted to deliver has just been repackaged as something else.
What I’ve seen of L4D2, I’ve got to wonder what these guys are thinking. If XBL charges for extra downloaded content, wouldn’t that give the company more money for less overhead? I mean they don’t have to actually produce a new game disk, any advertising costs would probably be minimal at best. Only one mega fan has to see a comercial before at least twenty other ones do. And if this stuff was split up into a bunch of smaller downloads, they’d still be making a shitload of money. At least then you can actually put more than a half year into a new game! It makes no sense to me.

Boycotting isn’t going to change anything, like that’s gonna make them not release the game and throw all the work they have been doing on l4d2. There is no way they going to listen to their fans and don’t give a shit what we think. Nothing is going to stop them of releasing the game and they know people are still going to buy the game just because of the l4d fans that are dying for some kind of new content and yes I’m one of those pissed off people but hey what are we going to do about it? just enjoy the freaking game like any other game you buy. If someone bought L4D expecting a wide choice of missions and levels, along with weapons and such. Then they were buying the wrong game. It never sold itself like that, it’s a spoof on zombie films which weren’t plot heavy but just zombies getting shot up.
Characters themselves are cliche tokens. ‘Nam Vet. Cocky asshole. Black guy. And a girl. That cast alone is pretty much a glaring sign the game is tongue in cheek.
That being said, I think L4D2 looks shit. Mostly due to the setting it’s put into, stepping away from the cookie cutter zombie flick dusk-dawn in some small town to broad day light. To me that kills the atmosphere L4D created. You could replace the zombies with anything, big fluffy teddybears and the game wouldn’t be too different. The new cast is lacking, and with melee already nerfed… what good is a frying pan going to be over bullets?
As a longtime valve fan, when I heard left 4 dead 2 I thought it was going to get delayed (since valve tends to take forever to make games). Now, after seeing game demos and hearing a bit about it, I have to agree with the boycotters at the moment. The new weapons/campaigns/etc sounds ok, but all of this does feel like an expansion pack. I know, despite my gripes, I will probably end up renting or buying it, but I really think they should throw some more content in (they do have time). A few suggestions off the top of my head would be more character interaction (which goes along with plot and story), a less linear experience (branching paths, hidden locations, etc), campaigns feeling more varied (since all the campaigns were practically the same thing in L4D), maybe something along the lines of optional objectives (I mean maybe some occurrences that bring out moral questions like attempting a rescue of another immune even though you would seriously be risking your neck because of it. After all, they said its like a zombie movie and my favorite kinds of zombie movies tend to question how human’s nature might change in these circumstances) and something to make it all seem worth it (i.e. unlockables).

I agree with you up to the point where you thought the name sucked. Sure, there are probably some better titles available, but then again, think about how many more could be worse. Just be glad it isn’t called Left 4 Dead: Extreme Horde Racing Adventure or Tales of Left 4 Dead: Louis and the 99 Dragons.

Valve Sucks, L4D should have had updates and dlcs, Look at gears of war 2, they promised dlc, and we get a lot of dlc from epic, they came out the same time almost, maybe a week apart. Gears looks like a more sophisticated game to program unlike l4d. so what’s the deal valve why are you sucking so hard right now.

Team Fortress 2 still hasn’t been updated for the xbox 360 version. That’s more Valve bullshit, only giving PC players more content.
If you had actually researched the game, you’d know that Valve has been working furiously to attempt to update the Xbox version. It’s the disk & hardware restrictions that are causing the problems. Since ive heard that there was a boycott against L4D2 i took a look at what they were sayin. I agree with the boycott group, there isn’t enough content for a sequel, this can all be DLC for Left 4Dead, look at Team Fortress 2, 2 years after that game’s release and everyone is STILL playing and it STILL is being updated. Also where the hell is Half Life 2: Episode 3. If it was like the rest of the episodes it should be out by now. I understand that maybe Valve wants to give HL2E3 a break, but if this game goes into developement hell like Duke Nukem Forever I swear I will cut every Valve employee’s nuts off and hot glue it to their head, and if that employee’s a girl I’ll get an axe and chop her boobs off >:(… Unless they show more content to prove that this can be more of a sequel instead of DLC then I will be happy and pre-order this thing, until then Valve cant haz cheezburger

Left 4 dead 2 i dont like the fact that there are day maps becose it really kills the horror factor of the game like in Resident evil 5 and even in the resident evil movie that last one i think it was called Extinction (I didint really like 1 and 2 either but that last one just raped everything that was left… hard) and another thing that bothers me is that does it really give anything new? new guns to replace the old ones new characters to replace and new maps new replace old ones! They aren really mini movies like they bullshit in some of those interviews that isint gonna be any fun just to see old mediocre stuff replaced with new mediocre bullshit. im not gonn buy this game if there isint anything new and interesting like 10 players co-op that would be fun. Sometimes keeping game simple is good but not in this chase. We want good apocalypse Zombie game with some variation in missions.

I never bought L4D, but I would rather have an expansion than a new game, or just general DLC content. Games like Halo, COD, Kill Zone, Fallout 3 and other big titles have DLC content which in my mind is a worth while buy at a cheap cost, usualy lower than $10.00 and you don’t feel let down if it isn’t that good.
And about the boycotts, I am not bothered at all but i am amazed at the number of members.

For me L4D2 doesn’t attract as L4d did. I don’t know why but maybe there just squeezing every last drop of the zombie apocalypse genre. They should of just made something like TF2. Like new campaign, new weapons, new achievements, maybe even new characters. For me L4D one is 4ever. Well simply because if every time a sequel was remotely similar to the original game they gave it out as free DLC, there would be NO sequels. I own a L4D tournament team, now we are nothing spectacular, not by a long shot. We do, however, have enough sense to know media gold when we see it. Without a single argument we will be making the transfer from L4D to L4D2 the MOMENT our pre-loaded games open up. I hope Valve never has the misfortune of reading a head-up-the-ass comment such as yours and taking it to heart. Keep up the fantastic work Valve!
