Officers from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Gretna City Police Department, and the Crescent City Connection Police blocked the Crescent City Connection to block evacuees crossing the Mississippi River from New Orleans into their area.[67] Gretna Police Chief Arthur Lawson told UPI, “There was no food, water or shelter in Gretna City. We did not have the wherewithall [sic] to deal with these people. If we had opened the bridge, our city would have looked like New Orleans does now – looted, burned and pillaged.”

I was in New Orleans before, during and after Katrina. I was there for my honeymoon and I had heard about Steven Seagal was out and about helping out as an officer with Jefferson Parish. I wouldn’t be too proud to be associated with Jefferson Parish though….after Katrina brushed downtown New Orleans, my wife and I would go down Decateur to the Fire Station and talk with the firemen and locals as to what we were all going to do to get out and a young white couple had just returned from the Huey P. Long bridge trying to get out of the area and were turned back by Jefferson officers. Some say that there was reasons for turning people away from leaving Orleans Parish, but I don’t believe a damn one.

All you need to do is watch Spike Lee’s “When The Levees Broke” it was on HBO and I will tell you it is the real deal.

I am enjoying the show with Steven Seagal, but I am concerned with how many drunk drivers are stopped by him and his officers that they let walk home or get a slap on the wrist and get a cab called for them??? What the F is going on down there? Are people allowed to drive drunk with impunity if you run into Steven Seagal and his cronies?

That is really my only gripes. I am impressed with how Steven helped out following Katrina without the show for cameras, unlike some people…….SEAN PENN.

    Thanks for listening,
    Michael “Wutzmyname” Swanson

Steven Seagal could have been training law enforcement for 20+ years (many top martial artists trained Law Enforcement), but I doubt has been a cop (well besides the ceremonial deputizing…). His Aikido style is Rough, really Rough (based on a documentary that I have of his Dojo), so there’s no doubt he trained Law Enforcement. I recently saw few on the shows, you can’t see anything, its the worst hand held video filming ever seen, its even worst than the movie “The Condemned”…

    Here’s a stupid situation I remember seeing:
Drives by, and see a guy putting a gun in his pocket. They start running after him. They lost him, but the guy dropped the gun and a cellphone. Steven Seagal quotes: “We found his gun and cellphone, there’s a picture of him on the cellphone, we will possibly be able to identify the person by this picture”.

Because the cellphone itself can’t be used? Cellphones have subscriptions, else even just tracking the cellphone number will get you the owner in less than a minute…

Unfortunately He is an actual Cop. I can’t say how long he’s been a cop but he’s wearing a Jefferson Parish Uniform there, which is just outside of New Orleans. Becareful ’round mardi gras time folks.

Steven Segal + Cops = a recipe for disaster. Even if its real, when word of this gets out (and I’m surprised it hasn’t already if he really has been on patrol before) crime will go up just so that the common man can get an autograph form him.

“Hey, I didn’t knock over this seven-eleven just to get busted by some no-name cops! Where’s Segal???”

    Looks cool and looks fake.

He is running with a handgun all around? The cops don’t do that. If you watch the show COPS, they don’t pull a gun, they usually pull a teaser, if necessary. The SWAT teams have daily gun actions.
I don’t think the producers send Seagal to the real word’s frontline with real bullets. He is a hero, but only in the movies. He is cool, though. :-)

They’re seriously making a show where Steven Segal is a cop…

I’m skeptical. I don’t think its real. I mean how many “real” shows have
there been in the last couple years. If anything its like Celebrity Cops. Really
its just like Cops only with Steven Segal. I can’t tell if he’s acting or if
he’s serious, his expression never changes.

All in all I might check it out.

If its fake, I really don’t think its a good idea.

If its real, I still don’t think its a good idea.

Any situation where you have an actor, camera men, and place them in an
environment where they could be killed is never a good idea.
But it always makes for great TV.

    funny.

Another great vid from Angry Joe!

Well, first, great video I was laughing my ass off.

It sounds as if he was deputized some years back and his basic funtion was to
come down there and train officers in self defense techniques. He probably has
had genuine weapons certification, and went through basic training and county
and state certification. He “past” all their test. But, he has
probably only recently become “active duty”, or we would have heard
about it by now. In some ways, this could be interesting, as this may be his
first “real” experinces with true violent criminals, not actors or
    fellow martial artist.

Secondly, this is just going to be so funny to watch. I think that this show is
going to encourage crime and violence towards the police. You could see a frat
house getting drunk and driving down there just to see if they could get busted
by Segal, and see if they could get him to kick thier asses or some shit like
    that..lol!!

I think the joke will be on him, Joe, like you said. Aparently, he and his
agent have never really paid attention to what most of Americans think of Steven
Segal (ie, MAD TV and other commidies). The series will probably not make it a
whole season; especially if his presense starts to put “real” cops at
    risk.

Yeah, I’ve known about this for about a year and no joke…I heard one of the earlier plans was to have him living with Chuck Norris in a reality show. Apparently Steven was badass enough for his own show, and they dumped Norris. Also, multiple networks came up with this idea and A&E won out.

did a bit of research and this is the most conclusive evidence I could find for it:

    http://wizbangpop.com/2006/06/02/andersoon-cooper-on-steven-seagal-katrina-swat.php

It looks like he’s working with the police here and the quote a the bottom says about him working with the specific officers department we’re seeing in the video. To top it all off this article was written over 3 years ago, so either he’s been planning this for ages or it is actually true.
Might not be evidence of 20 years, but 3 years is enough to convince me :)

I think that it’s pretty cool. That said, I should say that I’m not that big of a Seagal fan. Don’t get me wrong, I do like him and some of his films. Examples of movies I like him in are; Under Siege, Hard to Kill , Above the Law, and Marked For Death. Now my Dad on the other hand, is a huge Seagal fan. He has a good chunk of his films and does keep up with his career. From what I’ve heard from him, him being a cop is totally legit.

I after watching his movies, I get the image in my head of him snapping all kinds of things on a suspect who tries to flee. But who knows. At the end of the day, he may end up being an awesome cop. And I do agree with you Joe about there may end up being more crimes in his area. If you committed a crime of some kind, how cool would it be to arrested by Steven freaking Seagal.

Looks like Steven has been hitting the free donuts. Also a lot of these “Louisiana Cops” sound Brooklyn. Laugh values will make this DVR worthy, and I am sure the YouTube videos will be aplenty. This looks “unintentionally hilarious”. As for fake or real? Fake-orino!

This is a hard one to call. Considering the fact that Seagal is one of those off the radar actors, it’s entirely possible that he may be a cop when not on the big screen. However, I will not believe it untill he actually fires a bullet, and photographic evidence shows that it wasn’t a blank. The police don’t just hand guns to people because they’ve done it in the movies.

I was like you at first, Joe. I was shocked and stunned at the fact that he was deputized but hey, if you do your work well enough, might as well keep on doing it. And also in times of crisis, cops can deputize citizens until more appropriate forces arrive to the scene but in this case I guess they deputized him for a more permanent reason.

But now I have to search and watch this show….curse me for not having TIVO. Because I don’t care what others think, I love Steven Seagal in Underseige 1 and 2 (I hate to say more, but 2 > 1), and I have to say this is his best work since that.
