Initially I’d wanted to be a Klingon, but given the more recent news from Cryptic that Klingons will not have the same level of episodic missions as the Federation I’m leaning more towards the Federations.
Go with the Feds. They have Patrick Stewart.
I believe the Joe Armada should pledge there allegiance to The Federation. With the Federation we will be able to use brute force and more powerful political action to crush our enemies! And Jean-Luc sang you that nice song.
hey joe i don’t wanna ben a little off-topic but when you gonna do the borderlands review, ive been waiting it. good luck!!your show is awesome.
Yeah my bad, i just looked it up on STO’s site, my bad. it’s nice to know they’re incorporating the events of the new movie though. They’ve actually got a write up of what’s happened called ‘The road to 2409′ which seems to be coming out in 1 year installments.
Well, I read that the ships are highlly customizable. Maybe it is possible to past a decal on the ship thus making an entire new fraction (kinda). I personally can’t wait till I have joes face pasted all over my hull XD. Imagine a whole screen full with “Joe ships”.
Klingons? Federation? Why don’t we join House Harkonnen? Oh wait, that’s Dune. I already stated my preference for the Klingons, but Joe is our leader and I go where he goes. We are the Joe Army after all.
i hate to flash my geek around… but really if you’re going to put in 2 factions, why does Klingong and Federation make sense?
I mean Federation is a given, but unless they change the timeline and whatnot around, Klingon-Federation relations are pretty good. had an alliance against the Dominion, and generally work alright together. Not to mention the ammount of help a certain singing captiain provided the High Council during times of civil unrest.
wouldn’t it make more sense to of made the opposing faction someone they don’t get along with, like Romulans?
Its been a at least hundred years after the shows if I remember right… relations can deteriate in that time, and the High Council would have changed over that time.
Go on Youtube and watch Star Trek Online Future Past Parts 1 and 2. It explains why the Federation and Klingons are fighting in the game.
Too bad we can’t make our own faction and just outright pwn everyone else in the game. That would be pretty awesome.
I’m going with the Federation, mostly because their ships look cooler and more balanced. Plus, we’re not bound by all that troublesome Klingon honor.
Wow great responses so far guys, Federation Officers are kicking ass here. I see that some klingons showed up and look forward to glorious battle. The game isnt out for another 4 Months, so we have much to think about. hopefully Ill learn if its possible to go rouge, but I believe its only just the 2 factions. At least initially.
Unfortunately, Craig Zinkievich (STO’s Executive Producer, that guy you interviewed at PAX) stated they dismissed the idea of playing a neutral early on. It might turn up later, of course, but certainly for launch they’ve only got Federation and Klingons, and if there are future factions added in (personally I’m about 99% convinced they will add more factions in the future), it’d probably be Romulans, Cardassians, Ferengi or Dominion, etc, before they even considered neutrals.
All just speculation mind you, but I still think you’d be better off picking the Federation and fighting for Truth, Justice, and Green Skinned Alien Babes.
I personally prefer tall, blonde, de-borgified babes over the green ones but thats just personal preference. Jeri Ryan can assimilate me any day. resistance is futile!
I’d just go with federation… hell why don’t you have both?
Joe my legion are willing to follow you to hell and back if you choose The Federation. If not however then my mighty forces shall crush your pefetic Klingons and shatter there hounor. I wish you the best of luck.
Yo, I’m totally down for giving this game a go and joining your mighty fleet! lol. Though, you’ll have to decide a server for us to go forth to.
I think it’s all on one big server.
once i get my new computer ill happily join you in game, ive been playing mmo’s for about 10 years, ive played just about every single mmo i can find, ive also led guilds and alliances more than once so if the main guild is too large you could easily setup multiple ones to ally together and take this game by storm! btw i vote federation for the massive loads of equipment they will surely have at their disposal and be honest, federation has kicked the crap out of the klingons for the most part in the shows
You will not make it as a Klingon, they eat the weak please go as a Federation.
As leader of the Dark Carrisan Smuggler’s Guild, I suggest that we side with the Federation due to the opportunities regarding trade; both legal and quasi-legal. Since the Ferangi and smaller conclaves of merchants trend to operate under the protection of the Federation, we can seek out prototype equipment and black market technology. Not only that, but it would be easier to hire individuals that specialize in clandestine tactics like sabotage.
Just a suggestion.
Federation all the way. We will be the Section 9 and crush all who threaten the Federation with no mercy. I can’t wait for this to come out and see how this will go. The Klingon home world will burn with our wrath! Woot! GO Joe fleet. Besides Picard dance and song just warms our hearts and he think we beautiful. Total worth it just for the nice comment. Nice reference to Star Trek Klingon by the way.
Should you pledge allegiance to the federation, the captains Jon and Mietz, including their ships, the USS Backgammon and USS Bob are at your command.
no, seriously, Klingons? Is there one ship of them that didnt blow up in the tv series (and did not have a main character on board)?
As far as i remember in the Dominion War they got their asses kicked real good.
Little known fact: Federation starships can set their phasers to “Shatner”, you cant argue with that.
at first i thought, Klingon’s all the way! but the more i think about it the more i like Star Fleet. the Klingon’s are warriors born, true, but that about ALL they were know for. There wasn’t exactly a huge crop of Klingon scientist…. ever. while the cloaking tech is good and a great ambush weapon, once Star Fleet gets up there with more advanced weaponry it won’t mean much.
just my 10 cents.
Initiate Thehivemind33 reporting! I vote for the Federation! The Federation gives me hope that one day, in our world we too will reach the point of world peace and even ally with alien life once we find it…
Plus, I really like Federation starships. (^_^)b Although I can’t decide if I will go Human, Android or make up my own race…such a difficult choice!
Neither side, I think, have show the Armada the respect it deserves. Song and dance? Come on.
Way I see it Joe, what would you rather do? Chant stories of glorious ass-kicking and honour, or sail around singing show tunes?
Personally, I think the choice is obvious.
I would say join the Klingons Joe because if you join the Federation they will send on missions to Uranus looking for Klingons.
Sorry for the old Klingon-Uranus joke but it was an obvious opportunity to bring it up again.
Federation all the way. So we don’t have to learn a made-up language.
Oh come on. Klingon all the way Angry Gamers. And if anyone is worried about the language barrier, the Spoony One was nice enough to give us a primer to work with!
http://www.spoonyexperiment.com/2007/07/14/power-klingon/
Emphasis on the “made-up language” bit
well that was interesting
edit: anyway i say the federation we shall rid the galaxy of filth and crime and bring peace to the war torn planets who have suffered starvation, enslavement , and death
Federation fools, you think we are not ready? Think we don’t have the options to destroy you? Think we are outclassed? We are not so foolish as to go to war without preparing. Many new ships and weapons await their unveiling, and your underestimation of us will cause your downfall. Honor and Glory shall be OURS! Q’apla! *headbutts*
Seriously though people, expect SOME kind of level of balance instead of thinking the Federation is going to have everything. This game won’t last half a year if there isn’t some level of balance.
Honor and Glory to the Empire! The House of Joe will be much rewarded for his allegiance to the Klingons!
But if not, Honor may still find him in Glorious Battle against them. We shall meet at the gates of Stovokor, Joe.
Q’apla!
Well Joe, judging by the polls it looks as if I may be pitted against the Angry Joe Armada, my friends and I were sworn to be Klingon long ago (I was the last holdout, the Gorn as a playable race was the deciding factor) but regardless of what faction you choose, may Honor be yours on the feild of battle. Oh, and Joe, Q’apla!
hmm, im interested in this game, but will there be a monthly payment (as there probably is), and how much will the monthly payment be if there is one?
I say the Federation Admerial Joe, they are less likely to stab us in the back.
Well, we’ll just have to do the backstabbing, then, won’t we?
Klingons have honor! They WILL NOT stab u in the back. Federation actually might. In that case, join starfleet.
i have to say Federation. I don’t know much about the star trek universe, but i just think Federation would have more options available.
also, me and you have the same computer chair. i noticed by the way the back is raised in the center. Great choice in chairs.

Admiral AngryJoe, I invite you to take my video proposal into consideration. maggosh out.
[Insert Federation Screen Here]
I’ll go for the Federation. More variety of ships. Chance to explore more, I guess. I really want to check out the Fed ships, too.
Id say klingon becouse they look more bad ass
Federation d’oh …. by the way Joe … you still lost to a fish .
Jebu, no worries about that, its been confirmed by the devs that they’re going for one worldwide server.
Thanks for the information James.
Well now i really have to consider getting this game… i just have to hope europe and america are in the same server otherwise i have to create Joes second fleet or something if i buy the game
I posed the question of klingons vs federation to a few friends (mercenaries)… the resulting arguement was… a little bloody, meh, i can always find more mney grubbing mercs, i just wont give them any hard questions this time! >:D
You said you were going Sith in the Star Wars MMORPG, right? While, why not go Federation in this one then to even it out?
Joe, go with the Federation man, its the way forward. Starfleet have the better ships, the better technology, and the better philosophy (which can be roughly boiled down to “Speak softly, but carry a big stick”).
Starfleet fight with their brains, not just their brawn. Federation science ships will wreak all sorts of havoc through their multiple special abilities and capabilities. Then the escorts will come in and punch a hole through the weaknesses the science ships will exploit.
Plus you get to fly a Defiant class (that cool little warship from DS9), which, if you recall, kicked all sorts of ass every time it was on screen. Frankly, I think that’d suit you perfectly as your personal flagship.
i can see you studied history, because it was theodore roosevelt that said “speak softly but carry a big stil”
typo, i mean “stick”
Who needs a stick when you have a batleth?
who needs a batleth when you’ve got a quantum torpedo?
Who needs a quantum torpedo when you have Chuck Norris? Tee-hee. Worf rocks.
Also, who needs Chuck Norris when you have a stick?
Hm… that’s a toughy. On one hand., Klingons. Just… Klingons. They’ll pobably be physically tougher on away mission or bording actions, possibly capable of doing more damage given the average Klingon is just a tiny bit stronger than a human. Their major let down is going to be ships and technology (however, I’d trust a bat’leth over a phaser low on energy any day).
Feds are going to have more ships, better technology and more choice, though physically tougher and, ugh, more flamin’ rules, quite possibly, which might limit the planets you can contact, unlike the Klingons, that just don’t give a Skavens left testicle.
Hm…
Oh screw it. *sides with the Feds for a chance to pilot a Voyager-type ship* XD
SO it’s “cooler ships and jump suits” over the biggest bad asses in the known universe? Only if I get to be a Klingon assigned to a Federation ship. Didn’t you guys want to be pirates or vikings as kids? The Feds are “civilised and refined”……snoozeeeeeeeeeeee.
The Federation are a bunch of “We come in peace” sissies. KLINGONS!!!!They fight with honour, and are take no prisoners. No “Prime Directive” B.S.! Plus I’d rather sing with them on Karaoke Night. Picard made me a little nervous there.
I like the fed but…….. Klingon get the most epic green rock throwing monster out there! can’t blame him, for throwing a rock a shatner.
RYGUY987 REPORTING FOR DUTY, SIR. I WILL PLEDGE MY ELEGANCE TO STAR FLEET AND WILL FOLLOW ON EVEN THE TOUGHEST COMMANDS GIVEN TO ME! Ok, with all seriousness, I would love to play as the federation along side with you Joe, but I don’t have the money to pay $60 for a game plus the $12 a month that will come with. Wish I could, but can’t, because PEOPLE ARE GREEDY! Naw, I know it’s to make money, but I don’t get why they need to have the monthly fees at such a price, I mean “OH MY LORD”!
As much as I don’t like following the crowd, I am going with the federation for my choice sir. While Klingons are a noble and powerful race, the federation allows all types to enter their ranks. They have Androids, Klingon, and that bartender alien type. How many Klingon ships do you know with a bar? I know I would want a drink while floating through space.
I to must suggest Joe that we align with the Federation. It’s not that the Klingon aren’t cool, but at this stage there isn’t much to them. Perhaps if there was like an entire opposing faction, consisting of several races. You could be Klingon, Ferengi, Cardassian, etc instead of just one race. Maybe in the future, but for now we all should serve the Federation loyally.
So what if there aren’t a lot of them? It makes destroying the enemy more glorious!
General Joe I Captain Wolf suggest we fall to the allegiences of the federation. Superior ships tech and plenty of crew to choose from diffrent federation planets seem to be the ideal choice for the Angry Joe Armada. The possibilites are endless for the federation and you only seem tobe able to choose from Klingons.
Captain Wolf
End Transmission…
As much as I do enjoy just outright annihilating races from above with any form of laser weaponry, I’ll have to place myself on the side of the Federation. Not simply because the ships are superior and balanced against the Klingons who focus on weapon’s tech, but because we will have access to the Constitution Class starship. Furthermore, it will actually be interesting to perform acts of diplomacy in the war-torn galaxy we face. I will gladly side with you on the Federation’s side, and should you choose to join the Klingon Empire, then I will sadly fight against you. ((Damn, I feel like a total nerd now with all that in one post. >.< And fyi, Constitution class is the ship type that Kirk was captain of. Constitution ftw! \o/))
Oh if you wanna sound nerdy I’ve got you beat. The ship that you’re referring to is basically a remake of the constitution class ship called the “Excalibur Class”. However it will be a cool ship to play with
Huh, I wonder if the game will take in consideration people that never watched a single episode of Star Trek, such as me, and that game looks interesting.
joe im ready to pledge my alegience to any group you choose. i hope i can be your right hand man
i dont know about you Joe, but the federation is going to have acces most likely to much better stuff, considering their economy is made up of hundreds of worlds. plus more than likely hey will have the ability to upgrade more considering they advance technologically faster than the klingons. I dont know about you, but I plan to be rollin’ in a sovereign or defiant class vessel should any borg decide to poke out his ugly cyborg head only to get it blown off by my quantum torpedos. (oh gosh that sounded nerdy)
Plus I would imagine as the federation that you can play as more races, as they said in pre production that you can create your own custom race, however would they do that with the klingons considering…well its just the klingons…
Plus the federation just looks cooler in my opinion. anyway, my two cents
Very excellent case FOR the Federation Ryan! Fleet Command will review this proposal and those of other to make a determination (who sounds like a nerd now?) I think I might have to make a youtube video for this particular important decision.
I’d like to make an annotation to my argument for the Federation Joe if i may. That way “Fleet Command”, will be able to take proper consideration to all of the facts when choosing who we will align with.
As it currently stands on their website, there are a total of of 39 ships on the Federation side which are built into three classes; escort, cruiser, and science. When compared to the klingon fleet, as of now they only have a measley 2 ships. Now obviously they will have to include more vessels and if they release expansions in WoW fashion then there will be even more ship classes. However with that being said, it is obvious that the developers placed more time and thought into the Federation side, in which the klingons are outmatched by a much more balanced fleet.
True enough that the klingons are based soley on attack, however this is also their weakness as they no doubtedly use the “shoot first, think later” approach. With a balanced fleet, you’ve got your cruisers (the enterprise) which are going to tank for your fleet, your escort ships which are going to be flying around really fast (like the defiant) blowing away anything that moves, and your science vessels.
Now your lackluster science vessels are actually going to hurt the enemy the most because of their unique advantages by using technology against them (cue nerdiness). More than likely what the developers are going to do is allow the science vessels to function as “Interdictors” by deploying what is known as an “Interdiction field” which basically makes it so that a ship in a certain radius is incapable of using warp drive to simply run away during a firefight. By the time they realize this, cue Admiral Ackbar (aka “It’s A Trap!”) The Federation science vessels, according to the website, have the unique function of also being able to targ enemy ship weaknesses, and most likely what this means on one level is their “shield modulation” aka the frequency in which their shields operate in which all the other corresponding fleet ships are going to be able to match their phaser and torpedo frequencies to shoot right through the enemy’s shields. Cruiser ships, according to the website, are able to deploy boarding parties to take over an enemy ship, while your escorts are going to provide cover while they do this. All the while your science vessels are using their interdiction fields to prevent the enemy from leaving, and then you’ve got the enemy in the grip of death.
Game, set, match for the Federation. (cue weird al’s White and Nerdy)
I DECLARE MYSELF AN ENEMY OF THE ANGRY JOE ARMADA< NO MATTER WHICH TEAM YOU ARE ON! I WILL DESTROY YOU! What? Oh, coming mommy!
Heck, join the Romulans!
