Aliens Vs Predator Selling Well, Rebellion Talks Sequel!
It appears that despite alot of negative reviews, the New Aliens vs Predator still destroyed its competition and landed at the Top of the charts, at least in Europe, out-selling even Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 2 during that period. Those Europeans sure do love their Aliens, so much so that at one point those lucky S.O.B’s even got their own Aliens amusement park experience; Aliens War. (so jealous).
Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley was interviewed by www.develop-online.net about the performance of the game sales. Here’s what he had to say;
“We wanted Aliens vs. Predator to be a critical success as well as a commercial success, which we think we have achieved,” said Kingsley. “The reviews have been mostly good,” he said. “We’ve had three totally shit reviews by some Americans, which is a bit odd. Some of them were inexcusably bad. If you discount those poor reviews AvP is averaging high for us.”
Amen brother! There were a few total shit reviews (ehem, GAME INFORMER, ehem – See my G.I. Rebuttal Here). I love how despite being the CEO this guy isnt afraid to call people out. My Kinda Guy!
Jason even went a bit further hinting at whats to come!
“We’re also in discussions with Sega about ongoing support for AvP, and also about a sequel to the game.”
Certainly not an official sequel announcement but between me and you I think they pretty much have the go-ahead after this good news.
Stay tuned to the Angry Joe Show website because I have something very special coming up Regarding Aliens Vs Predator and Rebellion itself in a new upcoming series!

Joe, I’m sorry to have to break bad news, but Ridley Scott changed the Alien prequel to a totally different movie called promethius. No Alien prequel for the world.
Scoje hit the nail on the head, Joe please ask rebellion why they released a multiplayer game with all the multiplayer bits effectively broken…..
i will buy if they can add a little more with the weapons.
with all classes
Humans: add a shotgun or grenade launcher to the bottom of the assault rifle!”in the movie” and maybe a more advanced weapon system like holograph site to the top and hell why not a laser to!
Alien: my favorite class to play as! I know claw, tail, and mouth but how about being more creative! acid spitting and face huger throwing would be fun! i know a bit Bull**it but it shows your trying something new!
predators: they don’t need to change there hard enough to kill as it is! but 1 thing i would like to see is to use the sear as a close range weapon! come on only the claws?
thank you Joe if you have read this your the only person who can get to them and ask them about this stuff!
I’m buying this for PC as soon as I can! I’ve been playing the version I got at bioshock2free.info but I want to get it legally.
I am actually upset about this news. I am a huge AvP fan, playing this game is great and I’m commiting to playing it for awhile. But at the same time, this is no success at all in my eyes. They’re saying it’s the best seller this year, well it’s also the biggest traded in title of this year too, because at release this game had more bugs and holes in it than an old rotten log. They made their sales on hype mostly, for those thinking they had everything nailed down.
If Rebellion wants to keep me interested in a possible sequel i say they need to work their butts off making this game as amazing as they hyped it to be. Which means, fix bugs, work on their idea of balancing again, fix this horrible match making system and lastly, possibly make some original multiplayer maps, not just ones they re-use form the single player.
And [/rant]
Well, I’m a big fan of the alien in the avp series and the alien campaign was much too short and had too few content. To have little story and still manage to end in a cliffhanger is beyond me. The fact that this sold so much is only because of the hype and the fact its predecessor was very good.
If the multiplayer would be awesome, as in more or less focused upon (which I thought, hearing what the devs said beforehand), an underwhelming single player would be ok. But this multi just doesn’t push it that way.
Bad Company 2 will kill this I think. Played the beta, those designers know a thing or two about multiplayer gameplay.
I don’t know maybe europians are more forgiving of badly developed games, but AvP was not a good game, Start to finish I never had any fun, the MP is broken beyond belief, the single player is lack-luster, and there are no deticated servers as was promised by the devs. Adding in only 2 co-op maps and using a medicre graphics engine and subpar game mechanics makes this a HUGE dissapointment, although I hope that they actually read the reviews and at the very least update the game mechanics to something that is less than 10 years old. This game was on my Top 10 most wanted, but I rewrapped it neatly and returned it for a full refund the same day (For PC even). Pair this with Star Trek Online and you get all the proof you need that Major IP franchises rarely ever work (With STO and AvP being equally mediocre in my eyes because they both play like this is 2001 again and the last 9 years of game development never happened).
Also i am a huge fan of the movies and the original games AvP2 specificly, that being said it was still a huge dissapointment. I give the game a 2 / 5 as the only redeemable quality’s are the sound design. . . Thats it. If they were gonna be this lazy why not just reskin AvP2 then at least it would be outdated as far as mechanics go but that game was better than the latter project. Besides I think once Bad Company 2 hits the remains of the already barren MP will be on that game as it’s a better product.
But on the Bright side this year has given us Mass Effect 2 and Heavy Rain both games are highly enjoyable/innovative gaming experiences, like AvP should have been. Then again I also think were looking at a mediocre year of gaming as the only games im looking forward to are GoW3 and… Well thats it. If only the Last Guardian would be released this year. Alan Wake looks dumb, but im just skeptical, Ill reserve my judgment till I rent it. FF13 is another iffy, and thats really all the major titles I can think of that sound like they’re worth a damn.
wow you must really stuck at the game
hey joe, long time watcher first time poster. anyway I wanted to tell you a few ideas I had for both multiplayer and single player. firstly HOLY CRAP REBELLION, can you please PLEASE put a zoom for weapons and maybe if your gonna include an alternate weapon mode it should be a little more useful. oh goodie i can fire 3 bullets with horrible accuracy or turn off my auto aim feature on the smart gun, or what does that goo even do for the flame thrower it’s never explained. dunno maybe you can make fire pits with it or something.
I also thought it woulda been nice to see some marine adaptations to alien tech, now i know this is a remake of the first but I would love to see some marine approaches to some predator tech or even some alien bio augmentation of marines to make them jump higher run faster or what not. there is even room for a fourth campaign like a coperation taking alien tech to do illegal bio experiments, also something with the predator shoulder cannon charge mode needs to be changed I found I was having to waste a bunch more power then necessary while waiting for a lock, lock should be one thing charging should be another. Also the spears should pin people to the wall while the bladed disk should cut things off. it mostly just seemed like there was a point where they just had the life sucked out of them falling limp to the ground instead of reacting to the weapon.
I did however like the tied campaigns, but they didn’t take proper advantage of it. they didn’t develop any interest in the main characters of the campaign. it would of been so much cooler if you had found out later that 6 was actually present at some of the encounters with aliens or if the final battle of each campaign would have been with the main story character from the other campaigns. they did such a poor job I can only tell you the name of one of the 3 characters and thats because it was burned into his forehead at the beginning of his campaign.
Now as to the multiplayer which is already AWSOME! aliens should have random animals (that make sense for the location) that they can do that cool consume thing on, and when you consume your alien becomes a bot and runs off while you wait to burst out of what ever unfortunate animal you have taken over. I want to see tech locals, but I also want it brought home, show some urban enviroment, who wouldn’t want to play as a bulldalien (bulldog alien) or the laughable chihualien (chihuahua alien) put in a zoo and the possiblities are endless.
I have alot more ideas but I’ll keep them to my self to prevent rambling. but in summation, rebellion needs to expand on the arsenal of the marines, tweek the controls on the predator, and give the aliens something to freggin do. All that being said I loved this game, but the short comings of it kept it from reaching that pinnacle of gaming I was hoping for. seriously who shoots without looking down the sights!
That goo was a close up fire that burned them.Pluse i think the marines or aliens would just wait until you came out and kill you.In AvP2 their was classes like facehugger runner Predalien.I think that what it was?
been coned once too many
i don’t trust them any more
if i ever buy this sequel it will be when it’s in a bargain bin
Joe, I have to basically say this and while I generally agree with what you have to say about most games with this one sadly, I cannot. While single player was fun and entertaining, to me multiplayer was not. You left out elements of your multiplayer review which are the main reason I’m selling my game on ebay for about $50.00. First, infestation is only one round, same as survivor and both of them after you are done with that round you are forced into a deathmatch or some other random gametype and while it can be fun generally it’s over in about five minutes and sometimes people will just rage quit if they become an alien or are forced to play any kind of a spieces they don’t want.
The maps favor predator camping and aside from a standard deathmatch mode 9/10 predator teams try to find a campspot and camp, most marines play this way too. I wanted to like this game, and I tried to but it’s the community on xbox live which is plagued by annoying people and lag that prevent it. Mixed species deathmatch is the worst game mode by far though, as people prefer being a whole team of predators and using superior camping tactics with the disc, mines, and plasma caster. Given the map design as I said before most of them favor that tactic so it is very easy for predators to win because of it. Marines have no flares in multiplayer, the flamethrower is pretty much worthless and a marine’s melee does more damage and the flashlight at least on my tv is almost useless, maybe its different on an hd screen. If they are going to make a sequel they need to really think long and hard about the flaws in this game. The predator disc should cost energy to return as to prevent disc spam, and the weapons in general should cost more energy to focus on the ambush style of the predator not just the average idiot shooting the shoulder cannon until you stop moving then running for a recharge station to repeat.
I am prepared to be flamed for this but I felt I needed to at least get this off my chest because I feel for the first time since gears of war, the community has made me hate a game that I wanted to like because people wanted to exploit game mechanics.
disc spam is truly imbalanced, they gotta do something about it for sure! but camping cant really be blamed, its a play style! what can the devs do to prevent camping? life drain for standing still too long?
far as camping there are several tactics you can use to prevent or at least curb the amount. I have seen mods in other fps games that will call attention to anyone who stays in a 10 by 10 area for more then a couple min, even putting them up on a map announcing them ect ect. basically you put the players in charge of policing campers. one thing I haven’t seen is making standing in one spot drain off your supplies it wouldn’t completely prevent it, because i don’t think camping should be prevented thats what grenades are for in most games. but you arn’t going to want to hang around in a spot if your gonna be out of ammo in a few min. it wouldn’t prevent setting up an ambush and drawing someone into it though. just the asshole who sits on the ammo dump unloading on anyone who happens into that area.
Isn’t that what they did in CoD 3 that had words come up on your screen saying if you stay here longer you will be camping?I tried to see what would happened but got killed before the time was up.
to bad that people exploit the game mechanics all the time in any other game too. I guess online gaming isn’t your thing then
what i normaly do when im alien and i have a smart marine and preditor on my team (cause the preds will go thermal) i just climb on the wall and tail swipe the nearist one 2 times then quick kill any others before they notice/ my team mate dies.
hope they will learn to write a good story betwen now and then, cause AvP 2010 is worth nothing
how about a person is in a security room and he is trying to e-vac his team and he can like open gates and open weapon caches and keep his eyes on cameras and he can like operate sentry guns to try and fend off the aliens and try and get your team out alive and everyone that gets killed turns into an alien but not right away a face huger gets on him and slowly turns him into a alien and you can wake up if your still alive you can try and find medicine to kill the alien thats about to bust out your chest.
sounds like a “matrix” operator! not a bad idea!
is the next room safe? i am not sure… ITS AN AMBUSH lol, operator is in charge of the security system, he has to do hacking mini games to make the turrets work just in time before ur poorly equipped crew gets eaten!
this idea and the reply i like but it really feels as though it would belong in a diffrent game. it’s a whole diffrent style of play more like a strategy game then a FPS which is always what AVP has been and it’s what people expect. though I will say this the hacking device needed a much better mini game then, shoot more aliens.
reply to my own post, bad form but I realized when I read it I had a bit more to say about it. if they were going to add a mode like this they would have to put in something like the robots the army uses to destroy bombs, mostly used as a mobile scout, but it could have defensive or offensive capabilities. if you have seen law abiding citizen you know what I am talking about. that, i think, would tie it more into the FPS aspect this game is pushing for while still providing a multiplayer mode that would be really unique in the FPS genera.
sweet
That is pretty cool indeed
I wish they had better unlockables
skins is not enough to make me want to grind for!
i thought, oh! new characters? new HUDs to fit their unique personality? maybe different looking melee attacks and or insta kills?
I want dutch
Sounds good to me!
Hell yeah! Maybe the PC version of the next one will look better!
