I was one of those individials that were disappointed by the demo. I had high hopes for this game and would have no doubt purchased it if the demo did not come out. The graphics certainly were good but the gameplay was a total turn off. Maybe it was the FFA and the lack of instructions.. ie the radar, or two shooting options? Sure FPS don’t take a genius to figure out but my attention span is of a goldfish, if you can’t reel me in right away – forget about it.

HOLY CRAP KICKASS DEMO I LOVE IT TONS
I think its the PERFECT game mode to showcase. The fact that I honed my predator abilities to get 20 or so kills per match definitely gets my excited for team deathmatches, excetera
also, i noticed that each class has its weaknesses and strengths in CERTAIN SITUATIONS:
predator: melee only pretty much, but INVISIBLE
alien: damn fast and stealthy, but clunky
human: damn good guns, but doesnt have eyes behind him, or invisibility/superstealthystature
these pros and cons all suited the refinery level very nicely and i was extremely happy with the way the matches turned out.
i mean damn, predator vs predator is a intricate fight, but otherwise, run up to them humans, bag em and tag em, and get the aliens to show themselves first so you can bag em right after
if this is only the beginning, sign me up

While I completely agree with your point, Joe, I actually REALLY like the demo. It gave me a good feel for the different species. So I guess pants will, indeed, be jizzed when I get the full game.
The Game Informer review, though? It’s not the score that bothers me, it’s the fucktarded review itself. That, and though you have some, y’know, sense and realize that a five on a ten point scale is average, most reviewers, Game Informer in particular, doesn’t. They’re the kind of people who call anything that doesn’t get an eight, nine, or ten unplayable. It’s really best not to take them seriously.
One thing Game Informer has never given an alien or pred game a decent review score. They also have new management, a socialist I heard, so most of the real game reviewers quit. I would rather wait for Angry Joe and X-play to review it before I buy it.
Yeah, if I remember right, they gave Predator: Concrete Jungle, like… A three? Or something lower than that. It isn’t the best game ever, know, but it’s about as accurate to the movies as a Predator game has ever gotten, and it’s actually a really interesting game in general. How they could give it such a low score is beyond me.
I did like the Demo execpt you could only play with your friends.Plys Ben says The beeping sound comeing from your rader is annoying so you can’t hear the aliens.Oh and one more thing Joe the Alien dosen’t Stick his tail In their back think lower.

Here’s my sole problem with the demo. No one was online. I don’t know if it was because I was playing late at night, because it was the PS3 demo, or what, but there were ZERO matches. Oh well, if the demo is as bad as you say, maybe its best I wait to play the real game.

I was HORRIBLY disapointed with the demo, but with how much i did play the past AVP’s i will still give it a chance whenever it goes on sale…with how badly they put that demo together i’m sure within a month or 2 it will be on sale on steam.

I hate Ben right now. He comepletly disses the concepts and gimics these guys are known to do in the movie. It would be like mocking New Super Mario bros Wii because you have to jump on enemies to kill them, even though Mario’s suppost to do that.
IGN (don’t know if anyone has a problem with them or not) gave this game about an 8 with their UK review. I don’t think people who are excited for this game have much to worry about.

Sup people, great video as allways joe. Never really been a AVP fan, but this looks awesome! I’ve seen the movies, and i’ve played some games here and there. But I never got into it… wierd huh? Then you review the preview of this game and woaaaaaaaa! But yea, great video and all, might buy the game.
It was alot talk of multiplayer and how much the game where built to be played on the multiplayer side. Every game that comes out now is multiplayer, its a good thing dont get me wrong. But isnt it really time for a game to have a FULL “campaign-multiplayer-mode”!? Like you REALLY need to be 4 people to play it and progress. So whatever your teammate is doing, the storyline would go different ways all the time. And no… fuck the crap in Left 4 Dead 1 / 2. That doesnt count, that’s just SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT! GET THE MOST POINTS AND GET TO DAH CHOPPAH!

) Got some uber ideas for games. For example, a Survival action game based on the Nazi Zombies game! Where you are going to defend yourself for as long as possible. Here’s the cool part… You’ll be avible to play in offensive or defensive mode, wich is basicly
Offensive = FPS (First Person Shooter) Where you defend your bases with guns and upgrades
Defensive = RTS (Real Time Strategy) An overhead view of the map where you are avible to build turrets of different types to destroy the evil zombies or monsters!
Think of that in multiplayer guys..! 3 guys goes offensive while 1 of your friends is defensive. I’m writing a blog about EVERYTHING tho its on swedish… but if you want to know more, add my mail Yosh_mc_tosh@hotmail.com

well I don’t think that free-for-all is a bad choice for the demo, because the other modes involve some kind of skill from the player, just think about if the demo would have offer just the infestation mode for example and the player chosen to be the alien would be a total noob to the series, then he eventually wouldn’t score a single kill and the game would end in a failed attempt to have fun for all the players. the same thing more or less is common to the other multiplayer modes.
the only thing that is bad about the demo is that it doesn’t have a tutorial or just a manual that explains how to play, because even I being a fan to the series had trouble to figure out specifically the multifunctional use of the so called “focus mode”

Wow I new nothing about the release of the demo, not to mention the review. I haven’t given the 360 dashboard much attention since I have been achievement hunting in Dragon Age (4 more to go!) for a while.
That pissed me off too I mean sure the game isn’t perfect but it sure as hell doesn’t deserve 5.75 on the demo I give it a 8.5 and even though free for all is the worst game type I still had fun with it now in my perspective if I had a good bit of fun on the WORST game type which still wasn’t bad so in a assumption all the other ones should most definitely be badass but until then I better wait for Joe with the final word
Most review outlets tend to average a 7 out of 10 in the scores they give out, thanks to the ol’ four point scale they all deny using. My guess is that that’s why people got so excited about this score.
When it comes to gaming reviews, I will only trust two people and that is you Joe and Bennett. You two are tried and true gamers and do it for the love of the games. You will give your unbiased opinion on games.

Let me give my opinion: The demo was actually very decent. Granted the Marine felt a little unbalanced due to two weapons (the flamethrower and SMART-Gun) but the demo felt good. I didnt care for the alien as much…ONLY because for some strange reason…I got motion sickness from climbing on all the walls. The Predator was really fun to use…but I feel that the cloaking device was more of a noob-tool then a sneak-attack.But yes, I did try all three characters (even though I mostly stuck with the Marine), but to me, the demo was great! If the developers gave the game a bit more time and polish, it might be that one alternative to Modern Warfare 2 and Halo 3.
P.S. Hey AngryJoe, quick question: What’s your opinion of director Robert Rodiguez (or how-ever you spell it) directing a third Predator movie called Predators? To me…I can’t wait for it! First was good…second was “meh”..both AVP and AVP:R sucked…just hope Predators/Predator 3 is amazing

I didn’t think the movies were good… but I still enjoyed watching them. It just wasn’t AVP like how the games depict that universe.
I played the demo just to give it a shot, and I have to say it has interested me enough to at least give the game a rental when it’s released. I fully agree and understand how they should have had a better gametype for the demo, such as a Team based one where each species is it’s own team, but the demo did offer a fun sample of what to expect. I just think people are being way too judgemental before they get to even dive into the game and just have fun, everything is taken way too damn seriously these days. Games are meant to be fun.
I agree. Game Informer is good for telling about games before they come out but not for reviewing them. In this case BEN REEVES CAN SUCK IT!!!! I’m not trying to bash Game Informer but sometimes they just don’t think at all.
BTW if anyone doesn’t know who Ben Reeves is, he’s the chubby retarded-looking ass hat with a jew-fro that in my long history as a GI subscriber has always given awful and half-assed/fanboyish reviews.

Hey Joe, I have a theory about why they decided to do death match for the game mode. Like you said FFA is terrible, almost no one plays it and no one WANTS to play it when they play AVP. I think it is about them wanting us to play the demo and be utterly amazed and secure our pre-orders. I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to still be getting this game, even through the demo. I believe they chose death match so that when the game is released and the demo is still available- people will play it and want to play TDM. This will leave them with having to buy it instead of being able to continuously play the demo for free.

) but sound theory. My theory was you can face off against all the species, including your own, and they were allowing players to see how they all handle even against each other. Another reason was so you can get to witness all the trophy kill animations against everyone including your own kind. Maybe it’s a mix between both our theories?
That game is going to rule, because I’m pretty sure that spastic muppet from GI was crying about difficulty and he propably never played any AvP game, before.

I am SOOOOO HAPPY to see I’m not the only AVP fan who called bullsh*t on that “review”. I just about fell out of my chair when I saw Ben Reeves’ score and the poorly written review he used to back his opinion. I think GI is a step above toilet paper, and crap like this confirms my opinion on that crap-azine.
I need to get my rant off my chest on Ben’s “review”. I used quotes on review because it wasn’t much of a review. It reminded me of Veryinvalid on youtube calling Mega Man 9 a failed game because the graphics are 8-bit. @_@ Lame sauce! (sry… getting back on topic)
Is it just me, or does Ben not like old-school shooters? I mean, what was he expecting to happen in the Marine Campaign?!?!? Too much shooting of Aliens? Was he expecting to have a Mass Effect experience and have context conversations with the face huggers? It’s suppose to be the scary campaign of the 3 single player experiences. He even talks crap about the motion tracker’s sound bugging him. I don’t know about you, but I look forward to hearing that beep because it immerses me into the Aliens universe, AND it lets me know if Aliens are coming. I don’t even notice it at times. However, I do agree that the flood lamp used could be somewhat more effective for visibility, but it is an improvement over AVP2′s lamp. Joe covered most of what I was upset with in the review, so I won’t restate the obvious.
Now for the demo. I have issues with it, but I love playing it. It should have been species dm, but I’ve seen plenty of people online divide the teams so it would play like species dm. I just wish that there was a tutorial to explain how to take advantage of each species. Most complaints I hear usually refer to how confusing the combat is. I watched tutorial videos online on how to use each species effectively on youtube. It’s very helpful.
Trust me. You’re nowhere close to the only one. I can’t stand someone even mentioning it on the gamespot forums and flip out anyone who brings it up. Their review was insulting and it wasn’t even because they gave AVP a bad score. If they had actual reasons or they gave their opinions on the game why it was bad, that’d have been one thing but their complaints amounted to little more than, “It’s too similar to the ips they came from! BOOO.” which is ridiculous. Furthermore, every review site has disagreed with them. Angry Joe, when you give your actual review don’t forget to post IGN’s scores too.
IGN UK score came out recently and rated AVP at an 8.5. Although, they said the graphics are dated and 1st gen 360 quality which I completely disagree with, however, they still rated it as “GREAT”, which is good enough for me.
What else really got me was that he referenced AVP Classic by saying “Curiously, Rebellion’s 1999 PC release, Aliens Vs Predator, was well received, but this update captures NONE OF THAT GAME’S UNIQUE SPARK.” W…T…F!!!!! If he even played the first AVP, he would realize his statement would make as much sense as saying “Curiously, Capcom’s 1988 Nintendo release, Mega Man 2, was well received, but this (Mega Man 9) update captures none of that game’s unique spark.” AVP3 uses the EXACT formula that made it great in the first place!
Loved the rant. Sorry about the GameSpot incident. We just hate GI so much that most people either avoid GI related threads without reading the content or yell at the people who bothered to bring GI up. The GI hatred is strong with us.

Something that caught my eye in this video is your position on screen…it’s strange, it’s kinda the same in most videos lately: During the video I always think “Man, he’s standing in front of the monitor…it’s difficult to read the stuff!” But during the last minutes, you’re standing at the right spot…which is to the left of the monitor so it’s actually possible to read the messages without guessing letters or words. Just my 2 cents. Liked the Angry Rant in general, btw
