Sucks to see that, Joe, but even if you’re out of warranty, they might still replace it for free for you. I RROD’d three times and the third time happened while out of warranty. I called, and they caught it, but agreed to repair it as a courtesy repair, meaning it was still for free and I got a new set of warranty.
Though I’m certain that if it RROD’s on me again, I would buy a new version instead of getting it repaired.
Just asking, but don’t you make enough money through the adverts that are on your site to pay for a new xbox?
Now you made me woried it will hapend to me again 🙁
At least i got my ps3 and wii to help me wait if it hapens again 😀
I can fix that.
video of me fixing the same problem on another unit.
possible DIY project.
Is that console in a well ventilated area? maybe that’s another reason why you got RROD as most of them can get it if there laid on their side, I was always told to have it stood up and not have it in a small shelf like that.
good luck Joe i had 3 mofoing x360’s and all of them had rrod
and thats why i bought a ps3 and everything’s perfect
Hey Joe. Big time fan, first time commenter. I’ve seen this tons of time before. One of the main causes for the red ring of death is due to overheating by putting the xbox in a cramped and cluttered like the space you had it in. There is a chance that your xbox still might be able to work. Keep your xbox in a uncramped and uncluttered area like at the side of your tv where nothing is around it. Hopefully that might work but to avoid this issue in the future keep xbox in an uncramped area.

Hopefully that might work but to avoid this issue in the future keep xbox in an uncramped open area.
your face on the last 5 seconds is priceless 😀 at this point all i can say is ps3 FTW!
The best thing is that it happens cos your playing on it… Managed to do that on my friends 360. Piece of crap. Thats why I play on PC nowdays.
Could always get a good PC joe ;D
There isn’t a single person I know who hasn’t RROD at LEAST once.
Now you should buy ps3 :DDDD
Joe i actually know how to fix RRoD its only temporary but it works its actually a youtube vid heres the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_NkMa9f47Y ive gotten RRoD twice and ive used this trick to fix it i hope this helps
You do know you can repair it yourslef, it’s not like you have to buy parts for it. Just some tools, hell my brother took one xbox360 that suffered the RROD and fixed it. I mean, he’s making money fixing other RODD infected 360
For all the guys bigging up Sony, I worked in retail for years and Sony’s consoles had the highest return rate and worst warranty. Their warranty with the PS3 is still the worst out there and yes it does break enough to make it an issue.
Also Microsoft IS replacing the Xbox360s free of charge and has done for over a year. They were just re-circling the older, original Xbox360s as refurbished models (exactly the same policy Nintendo and Sony use) but as soon as the reliable replacement motherboard was introduced MS started stripping the returned consoles and used the replacement mainboards instead.
The newer consoles are significantly more reliable and the whole failure rate issue is more due to Microsoft reusing faulty products and putting them into circulation as opposed to putting new, fixed consoles in.
Time to buy PS3, Joe
It is time
Because all of his 360 games are magically going to go through a metamorphasis and become PS3 disks, and his controllers will enter cacoons and emerge as Dual-Shock 3’s.
The two aren’t just interchangable, you need to think big purchases like that through. $300+tax is still a lot of cash.
Did you try the different components first. First time it happened to me (and only time so far), it happened because the hard drive wasn’t in all the way. Also, that thing looks pretty dusty, do you ever clean it? Finally, I’m sure there’s someone on the internet who knows how to exploit every possibility of what could be wrong with it.
Shoulda got a PS3 😛 haha
You should totally try the towel trick, that works for the RROd’s most of the time
Woa Joe, I thought you censored the harsher curse words? Anyway, try this website if you are wiling to pay 8 dollars for a ton of very specific washers, screwdrivers, and other stuff that will cost more all together at a store.
That seems like the permanent fix, so I suggest using it.
And I thought Microsoft fixes all RROD for free? I had it twice and sent it both times, one of them was a new console.
Curse you red ring of DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey I know what it feels like to have that BS dumped on you on a seemingly good day. And I know that feeling where you just want to get Microsoft to sack itself and keep asking “why are you hitting yourself?”. But hey they gave us some great games, the halo franchise was great and so were many other game that Microsoft published. Sure the Xbox 360 brakes down every year or so, but the time it does work it gives you f–cking awesome games and great moments where you pwn your enemies again and again and again. (god bless instant replay :P). So Before you Blow Microsoft off you nice list think of all the epic moments that it gave you (this is perfect stuff for a clips show BTW). Anyways, these are just the thoughts of one of your loyal fans.
Gave you $4 too, sorry all I had in paypal 🙁
And this is why I like my Wii. It has a fail rate of nearly 0%.
Man I’m sorry I can’t donate I don’t have any money or a job and i’m only 17 but man I hope you get a new one quickly. Hopefully this is the only time this has happend to you cause I got to say after paying 4 times to have it fixed I am pissed off and I only get more so every time it breaks
Ok, I sent you a message on TGWTG but in case you didn’t get it here is the advise.
My 360 did the same thing, we unplugged it, blew canned air into the vents to blow the dust out of that bastard. Plugged it in, got RRoD, unplugged it, replugged it, thing was fine. Swear it’s the truth.
Might have been a fluke, but if your console is toast it might be worth a try.
BIG THANK YOU to Jeffery J, DarkNinMagic, SpazOutLoud & Edmondo for your Donations! Wow! A few more I might not have to spend ANY weeks waiting, YOU Guys ROCK!
either it is just me or fire is comming out of joe’s head. 2. a volcano just erupted. or 3. an bomb is about to explode in his noggin. bottom line microsoft you people are morons. now before everyone puts this at only a star just let me say this if microsoft just pushed this console to early they should either just apoligize for the faluty consoles and repair them, or just still make the xbox 360 but start to figure out what will improve the console to keep it from going red ring on us gamers. so now that is out i can….. uh oh!!! please stop staring into my soul angry joe. im scared
Hey Joe. Your welcome for the donation. Just let that voice know, that now, this member of the Angry Joe Army will not lay down and let them win. *salutes*
I Don’t Have A Xbox, But I Feel Your Pain, Microsoft Shall Make A New Xbox 360, With Many Of The Problem Fixed, Exspecialy RROD
Pretty much the same reaction I did when it happend too me, what did i do? I stuffed a bunch of fire-crakkers in it and through it in too a camp fire that i made, I’m not joking, it was a great new year, I’m not saying you should get a PS3, but one would be nice, 360 has a lot better games though, oh and you know what needs too be done one’s RROD has fallen upon you’re XboX, hehe DESTROY IT!!!
Well…if Game Developers can get away with selling us Betas, that they later patch and call a “Game”….then I suppose Console Developers will do the same. That’s the problem with this generation in gaming….things can be fixed through downloads, before online took over, they had to make sure it was up to speed and as perfect as possible, so they could avoid a recall. Yes….it is a problem, but it’s not really going to change. We’ll pretty much buy their product, EVEN IF they came out before release and told the world that it was a broken piece of shit and they’d fix it later….we’d still buy it.
Good luck on getting yours back. I had to go out and buy a new one just over Thanksgiving. Horrible thing to have happen.
Awww you poor thing! I want to give you a big hug!! and maybe some money! ^_^
If you havent heard there is a way to fix it temporarily it will work for about mabye close to a week but you can always just do it again if you are interested in doing this go to this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avWs4-wD15w
that will give you a demonstration on how to do it. 🙂 good luck
PS: IF you do end up repairing it from them or even if you get it working again y advice trade it in for an Elite cause well for one i know for a fact its way more difficult to get it broken especially if you have a cooler on the back of it (like i do ) but caution i wouldnt put it where you had it in that little hole because my friend did this and his also broke it must be in a more aerated place like ontop of it or something mabye ontop of your tv? plus if its standing it it breaths much better 🙂 really hope this helps ya goodluck from your pall Dabura911 🙂
Hey Joe sorry about that shit join the club of the RRoD.
Now is time for you to come in to the Darkside, free online play, shity servers, lower rate of failure on consoles, blueray lens. [ PS3 ]
Don’t wanna create controversy of which console is better because we all know which is the one.
I think he is already there, the Darkside he has Force Lightning and I think he has a PS3
but yeah controversy could be fun but when you play with fire you might get burned.
wait way is the PS3 the Darkside
Sony is the darkside because they have done everything possible to be arrogant dicks this console generation.
Priceing their console at a rediculous price, then saying their costomers will take extra jobs to afford it. Stripping out Backwards Compatability (UNFORGIVABLE), then launching the painful “It only does Everthing” ad campane. Shouting angrily that the PS3 is NOT a videogame console. Forcing Blu-Ray (Buy your movies a third time suckers) technology down our throats.
Sony: Rember your favorite PS2 games? Ya, screw you and buy our console.
…and the sad part is, eventually, I will…
…and the worst part is, eventually, I will…
Had the same thing happen to me, but I didn’t bother sending it to Microsoft for repairs. I actually looked around online and found a couple of tricks to fix her myself. Tried one of them and got my Xbox up and running again within an hour. You might need to buy some special tools Joe, (about $20.00 worth) but it’s a lot faster than waiting on Microsoft to fix their error. Here’s a link to method I used. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsz0lNJ6JrQ
Good luck Joe.
That BLOWSS!! I was lucky. I got my 360 the Xmas eve it came out and to my surprise, while everyone else had issues, my 360 lasted for over 2-3 years before i ever got the red rings. But because of college, I sold it for some money and now I’m back to my PC gaming roots and I couldn’t be happier. Though I am saving up for a PS3 sometime this summer for THIS very reason. I trust bringing a PS3 back and fourth from home and college. I don’t trust a 360. Plus, a 360 is much bulkier now and I need wifi I’m not spending an extra $100 just for my 360 to have wireless internet. I love 360, but I have moved on! 😀
forgot to mention that is was my second repair aswell and i didnt pay anything, so i dont know if i got lucky or something but, i called, they fixed, and i was happy 😀
@freakern just to let you know m8 you dont get a new 1 you get a referbished 1 sent to you 1 that has been broken and been “repaired” i use this term losely
Damn that sucks. Here is is 2010 and M$ still hasn’t fixed the rrod issues. What’s even more sad is there are Atari 2600s out there that were made in 1975, and they still work like brand new. C’mon Microsoft this is ridiculous, you’ve had plenty of time to fix this!
hi, this happened to my couple of weeks ago and i called microsoft and they sent a UPS guy who picked up my machine in a few days and in like a week he showed up at my door and gave me a brand new xbox because microsoft dont bother fixing them anymore and they just send you a new one it seems like.
thats what happened to me atleast, i live in europe dont know if that make a big difference, and on xbox.com you can fill out a form that does the same as calling them which i had to do, but i suggest you check out xbox.com first
think this is the right link:
but good luck anyway. love your show
omg joe i fucking hated when that happened to mean i just didnt know what to do but atleast my warrantie wasnt up yet so i got lucky it must be worse for you since your warranties up srry man and good luck to ya
My condolences Angry Joe, I share your pain with my PS2 breaking down because of my bro overheating it. Hope you get your Xbox 360 in shape as well as your sanity.
It is incredibly ridiculous that Microsoft still has not fixed this error. I mean, how many years has it been since the 360 debuted. Yes they got a year up on the competition, but at what cost. They had so many complaints. It is so stupid on their part.
I hope that this is a wake up call for them for next gen.
Note I think it is ironic that the google ad shows a do it yourself fix it with the RROD
That reminds me of the days that my nes won’t work, when I was young. Why most consoles break
I have an idea to help your cause
why not hold a donation game night where you play with the people that donate as a thank you
do you mean after he gets a new xbox? Because he can’t play now.
well yes and also I think he has other game consoles and a PC
There’s always PlayStation…
Awesome. Not that you have to suffer through the RRoD (again), but your reaction here is likely only partially acting and mainly honest-to-goodness anger. I’ve had my unit for a little over a year, and I’m just waiting for the same thing to happen to me… it’s the first console that I’ve ever owned where I’m actually expecting to have to replace it because it WILL die.
Hopefully you get a replacement soon.
Damn, that really sucks, man. Was it one of the earlier models? :/ But if you’re going to get a new one, be sure to get one with a Jasper chipset, so the chance of an RRoD will be less.
I hope you get to borrow one or something soon so you can keep reviewing games. 🙂 Hang in there, man.
Sorry to hear about your xbox man, and for it to happen twice, damn. Hope you will be able to get it fixed without too mutch hassle
This is a HUGE! problem with both the big consoles on the market today my brother is on his 5th thats right his 5th PS3. I personally have never owned an Xbox but i hear there fail rate is even higher than that of the PS3 this is just unacceptable both sony and microsoft need to adress this. Now i know later generations of the consoles have better and i stress better not perfect reliability so maybe on 1st generation releases on these sort of consoles they should give extended warrentys of 2 or even 3 years for those people who go out and pay the massive sums of money the ask for when the consoles are newly released to give peace of mind.
then again my PS3 has been working from day 1 when i bought it MUAHAHAHAHAHA!
ahem sorry for your loss joe
You should have Force Lightning’d it. I bet that’d fix it!
