Top 5 Reasons Aliens Vs Predator Will Kick Ass!
In case you didn’t know by now I’m a HUGE Aliens and Predator Universe Fan! When I heard the good news that Rebellion (the developer of the first AVP on Jaguar and the PC) was hard at work on a new AVP, I nearly pee’d my pants!
At the time we were getting FOUR separate Aliens Games: Colonial Marines (a DS Title), Aliens: Colonial Marines from Gearbox, the New Aliens Vs Predator from Rebellion and an Alien’s RPG from Obsidian.
Unfortunately Corporate ripped the heart out of the DS title and the innovative Aliens RPG from Obsidian (instead their overlords demanding they make a Fallout Spin-off instead). Gearbox nearly had their marine title cancelled (Joe video about it here) but thankfully it has been confirmed that it was put on hold pending the release (and success) of the renaming title Aliens Vs Predator!

This New Aliens Vs Predator sounds like the same AVP game from 1999, with a few more bells and whistles. I was hoping that there might be a bit more innovation, but if they can get the multiplayer right I’ll take what I can get!

So I’ve been playing this all day or trying to and I am liking the gameplay and have started owning with the marine it’s just the damn menus that are horrible for the PC. It feels like a console port to me. It’s got that damn quick match where you can’t really pick a server or who to play with it just puts random people in with you which I’ve always hated. And you cant join a game in progress either. I sat for like 20 minutes mid day today just waiting for people today and that sucked. If I could see there were all empty servers then I could just stop and try to play later not just wait for however long to hope someone joins.
And as other people have said before me the open mic is the most annoying thing ever for PC. Every time without fail someone has a mic and no headphones and it’s just the most annoying static sound you will ever hear. I yell cover your mic and stuff like that and I hear back people talking in what seems like Chinese? whatever. Also the loading times are pretty bad. You just hear that damn static forever and half the people leave before the game even loads. I think this is gonna fail for the PC if you ask me. The gameplay is fun but the menu and open mic is shit for PC.
i liked the AVP extincsion for the PS2,but this game owns that on so many more levels,1 you can control the alien,predator amd marine in first person,AVPE was 3 person,2 the predator abiltys are able to adapt to quikly because of the predator concreate jungle game, and 3 the online,im trying to play the demo,but my friend is never on the sametime i am

AvP 1 had Preds and Marines against a neverending torrent of Aliens. And not only 4 guys.
(Best mode evar!)
But then those were the good, old PC times.

It looks pretty good but I think what will really make or break the game is if they can get the atmosphere right without unbalancing the game. As you said, the marines having their motion tracker bleeps but not knowing what is coming or from where exactly… that is the stuff. But if its not perfectly balanced the Marines will either become annoyed like Hell because they almost never get the alien before it gets them or they have it too easy and it becomes a slaughter. And then they have to balance it for three sides, well we will see.
Anyway if you look forward to AvP you should check out the excellent Half-Life 1 mod Natural Selection and its upcoming successor and stand-alone game Natural Selection 2 by Unknownworlds Entertainment.

Its a very inventive game, a hybrid between RTS and FPS where the Marines fight the aliens while both sides try to build up their bases to gain the upper hand (Marines through better technology, Aliens through controlled Evolution). Both sides play completely different but its still balanced pretty good and the different alien forms are very cool to play. The basic form is kinda like the AvP alien, very fast and can also run on walls and ceilings, then there is a flying form and more. Check it out.
hey i have to say this game looks Amazing i have already Preordered it i am a huge fan of aliens and Predators i have seen all the movies up to avp2 and played most the games i hope these new aliens are badass. and i really really hope that they fix any balancing problems there having also angry joe i would LOVE to see you make a full Video of this and what you thought of the story and online play
I kinda agree…but the demo got really frustrating for me. Sure, the Grab kills are a nice touch….but that’s the MAIN cause of death in MP….which then you have to watch the animation EVERY TIME. Sometimes, I would even spawn, only to instantly get grabbed from behind, no chance of countering, and having to watch the same animation play out all over again. It’s really hard to say, “I want this game” when I’ve pretty much experienced all the online will have to offer….getting grabbed over….and over….and over again.
For me…the balance is also a major issue. The Alien has the fastest attack, meaning it can land a heavy strike, stun you, and grab you for the kill, leaving you no possible way to defend yourself. It seems that the Predator is mainly for killing Marines, Aliens are for killing Predators, and Marines are for killing Aliens…which really causes a major issue with class selection. Most of the time, I joined a match, and got stuck with Predator…which means I had to spend most of the matches running from Aliens, so I could kill Marines. Sure, not everything is supposed to be easy, but if you don’t have any weapons with the Predator, besides the default blades, all the Alien players have to do is stick to ceilings and tail whip.
This is strictly my opinion on the demo….but I know they aren’t going to bother doing anything else to the game, between now and release. We basically have the finished project…and I’m kind upset that this is what we’re getting. I know the Alien is going to be deemed overpowered and everyone will want to play as one, simply because the Marine and Predator weapons simply don’t pose a massive threat. All the Aliens have to do is get in close in order to kill you with a 2 button combo from the front and a 1 button insta-kill from the back. It’s Gears of War 2 all over again with the Chainsaw and Two-Piece. ….That’s not fun gaming for me.
i wonder if there will be a “king” alien class…

Well, I was excited for this. That is, until I played the demo. I know that demos usually are not good indicators of how a game’s going to be (mostly because their just too damn short), but I really didn’t like what I saw/played. I’ll be renting it of course just to try it out, but right now I don’t have very high expectations for the game.

the jumping abilty of the predator was in the pc version of alien vs predator not much of a upgrade and the demo version of death match is availbe it kicks ass

I think there’s bound to be more emphasis on the story.
It’s become a more important game element these days than it was in 1999, and for that matter I know that Lance Henriksen has given his voice and likeness to the single player story mode. *AS* the CEO of Weyland-Yutani.
Some of the modifications they’ve made to the PC version (if the multiplayer demo released on Steam is any indication) bother me, but I’m pretty confident the single player will entertain thoroughly.
I’m a huge fan of the franchises, (for the exeption of 2 horrible movies imo).
Got myself the 2 first games for PC way back and Adored it. Favorite was the Alien, every time I think of it I get this really big evil grin on my face.
Looking forward for the new one if they do as well and better then the last 2 I’m happy.
I hope they do the 4 player survival right, people tend to think L4D I hope it is gonna be it’s own thing.

Its bad because the marines get slaughtered? THAT’S your complaint? Have you read the title? Marines didn’t even get second billing!
I don’t know but I have seen some matches where the top player was a Marine and one match where all the Marines teamed up and they cleaned house. Also so Free for all deathmatch is the worst mode for the Marines but if you are in the right mind set it can be the coolest feeling that every thing is out to kill you.
And by the way want to say that H.R. Giger is a genious in horror

Hey Joe, I was excited for this as well but the multiplayer demo is on steam for PC and it’s pretty bad. Marines are just total fodder for the aliens and predators.
I am also a big Alien and Predator fan as well! I loved the old AvP game for the pc. I used to play online all the time!
This should bring back those memories…then again I guess the nostalgia will last up until some douche yells ‘fag queer, you killed meh!’ into the mic. (That is, if I play on the 360. I might get it on the PC to really bring back memories. 
) Oh and I don’t hate gays. I am just mocking how people talk on X-Box live.

I’m a bit disappointed about the single player campaigns. The campaigns in AvP2 were each about as long as these are combined, and each one was great while being distinct from the other two with epic and unique set pieces. Heck, the first level from the Marine and Alien campaigns didn’t even have any combat, it was all about setting the mood. A four hour campaign seems like it would barely be getting into it’s stride.
Holy shit! They are actually make that Face Hugger as a special edition exclusive?! … I got to get me one of those! But all in all, Joe – Great preview as always!

Excellent review and explaining the game. I think the game looks awesome. You never mentioned it or maybe I missed it but is there a skill leveling system and a player creator.
The intro with the action figures really shows your fanboy nerdiness but that’s not a bad thing.
As for the rating system. It’s a good idea but I find when rating videos I usually give a full if I like it, a 1 if I don’t, and a 5 (3 on YT and TGWTG) if I think it’s average. There’s really no need for for all the in between numbers but it doesn’t really matter.
There is not a player creator sorry bud. Instead its a lame progression unlock system in multiplayer that gives 6 skins for each species. Pure Crap.
did they say anything about having the new xenos in the multiplayer ?
I know it is crap but the games unlock skins are pretty cool and iv’e only played it online 10 times and i love it its a fun game to play and i recamend it to AvP fans and any one hows not in the franchise

I tried the PC demo, and it was INTENSE.
It suffered from the same thing the PC version of borderlands did though, because of the console port, which was that the mic CANNOT be turned off until your ingame. So you hear loud feedback mishmash in most of the lobbys waiting to start the game, that will give you a nice headache before you play. Why there is no option to turn it off and why the activate mic button is obsolete is beyond me. My only other complaint is having to change my controls for all 3 classes separately. I have to set my use key, my chat key, my mic key, and everything 3 times, 6 if you count the double ups since you cannot clear the keys.
The demo gameplay was great though, and easily made up for everything else. I wish they had chosen a better mode then deathmatch to show it off with, because I don’t want to be a marine killing other marines online. When we don’t work together, we don’t last long. Either way this game is at the TOP of my current hypemeter!
Oh and you should have mentioned more of the gamemodes coming! I hear there is a predator gamemode where it is marines vs 1 predator, as well as a mode where the majority starts as marines, and as they die they become aliens, until there is a last few who stand alone, fighting until their last breath!
That was hilarious!! You *have* to have been in a college dorm to get that Shower-scene joke. That’s like the only place I remember when flushing the toilet did that. Plus, the little skit at the beginning was plain awesome as well.
I actually loved the AVP games on the PC. The first one, especially when you play as the Col. Marine, was scarier than pretty much any survival horror, at the time. The emergency lighting, the various broken pipes that could hiss like an alien, the way your vision felt less than optimal with the lights pulsing between almost out and full red brightness. You didn’t just feel like something scary is around the corner. You felt like you just knew you’re going to die in a most horrible fashion, but you simply didn’t know when it will happen.
Of course, playing the alien was also cool but could be disorienting for players due to all the surfaces you could stick to. (Not to mention, your ability to jump 2-3 stories high)
But enough about that. I’ll be curious as to how this will stack up to the previous PC offerings. It could be something special if it expands or exceeds what they did.

Where is that Alien shower scene from?
I remember getting AVP when I bought my creative sound system years ago and played it on the original Radeon so the graphics and sound were fantastic for their time and to this day I still remember playing as a marine with just a smart gun and plasma rifle, my health in the red and crawling through ventilation shafts looking for a sve point while hearing the motion sensor clicking and seeing the occasional blip, I was bloody crapping myself…I mentally could not complete the level because the atmosphere was so dense. If this is anything like that I’ll be happy…and scared.
I think it was from one of the early AVP games also their is one where they are plying poker

Might be good. Never played the first ones, but I really love both Aliens and Predators, so I may “have to” try it out.
The only AvP I played was the Arcade game where the humans and Predators cooperated. This one looks intense.
