Marvel vs Capcom 3! Analysis & Challenge to Nostalgia Critic!
Angry Joe analyzes the recent Marvel vs Capcom 3 Trailer to determine what characters might be on the roster and trains to exact Revenge on The Nostalgia Critic for a humiliating defeat!

• The game is set for a spring 2011 release date on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
• Right now the development team is looking at having about 30 characters — or so — in the roster.
• Seth Killian said that fans can expect “a healthy dose of new blood” when it comes to fighter selection.
• It’s a 3-on-3 tag team fighting game, players build their own squads and uses Assists as well. Very similar to MvC2.
• The title uses an advanced version of Capcom’s MT Framework, which powered Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2.
• MvC3 has aerial combos, hyper combos and other original gameplay systems.
• The game is officially titled Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds.
• The goal is to get 100 pieces of music in the game, that includes old favorites, new tracks and remixes. The ‘Take You For A Ride’ song won’t be returning, at least, it’s not planned right now.
• There are no plans for an arcade, PC or Wii version.
• The team behind this wants this game to have a strong storyline.
• Development started on MvC3 in the summer of 2008.

This might be of interest to a few people. (Warning, HUEG Picture)

For those who don’t feel like downloading a huge picture, it’s a recently released promotional pic showing the initial 6 characters (Ryu, Wolverine, Morrigan, Iron Man, Chris Redfield, and The Hulk) with 10 more in silhouette behind them. Easily obtainable on Google Images.
Of those ten, we can easily make out the following:
Marvel:
Super Skrull
Dormammu (or possibly Ghost Rider)
Deadpool
Dr. Doom (Or Taskmaster, or Moon Knight, or anyone else with a hood, really. But Dr. Doom is most likely)
and Captain America.
Capcom:
Trish
Chun-Li
Dante
Frank West
and Felicia.
And it’s been confirmed through various sources, including the developer twitter, that there are currently 30 characters in the game, and there will be at least 30 more on the disc before it goes gold.
Capcom has said they wanted to include “As many characters as possible” before the game is released, sometime early next year.
I think I’ll remain neutral in this dispute.
Anyways, I can guarantee you that at least 40 of the 56 characters from the previous game will be here either in the original game or as DLC. It would be a stupid decision not to.
Here’s what I think:
On the Capcom side:
+ All the new guys from Street Fighter 4
+ Arthur (would be sweet. Any Ghosts ‘n Goblins fan would agree.)
+ Dante
+ Frank West
+ Jean Reno (cookie for anyone who gets the reference)
+ Leon S. Kennedy
+ Phoenix Wright (might as well)
+ Samanosuke (from Onimusha)
+ Wayne Holden (that dude from Lost Planet)
Definite maybe on Viewtiful Joe. He’s not very popular anymore but if he was in Tatsunoko Vs. then there’s a good chance he’ll be in here.
And if Dom and Marcus could make it into Lost Planet 2, the only reason that could stop them from being in the game would be because DC makes the Gears of Wa-… oh.
Sudden disappointment aside, for Marvel:
+ Ash (from Army of Darkness Vs. Marvel Zombies)
+ Blade
+ Bluntman and Chronic (if Kevin Smith’s involved, he can make it happen)
+ Daredevil
+ Deadpool
+ Doc Strange
+ Fantastic Four (if you get one, you might as well get them all)
+ Generic SPARTAN soldier (M$ EXCLUSIVITY FTW!)
+ Ghost Rider (would break the game, but his head being a skull on fire renders that argument invalid)
+ Hercules
+ Kick-Ass
+ Mickey Mouse (Disney will find a way to put him in there)
+ Nightcrawler
+ Punisher
+ Stan Lee (his superpower would be getting Jason Lee to kick everyone’s ass for him. Cookie for reference.)

omg and if they put aliens and predators. also i saw someone say The Punisher might be there omg that would be soo cool they could have the comic costume and the movie costumes and it would be awsome , seeing no one plays punisher no mercy even tho i think it was awsome ppl need too revive that games online community if there ever was one…poor..punisher…
i dont think that was deadpool joe sorry if im crushing your deams but it looks too me like that was gambit from x-men…? idk mabey look closer. and skrew chris readfield put Captin Price in this game lmao that would be insane and instant buy for me no matter what any review or price was. his ending move he would be like ” take da snipe mate” then you see a skyscraper and the main character from cod4 is on the roof with a 50. cal and he shoots and the camera follows the bullet and it blows off the guys arm. then it zooms to captin price and he says “nice shot comrade” then he could plant claymores in the game and make that annoying loud “PLANTING CLAYMORE” thing they do. it would be epic.
I hope they had X-23 to the roster on MArvel side… She is a really cool character…. with the x-Force uniform she would be amazing

Spiderman is my concern for this release – hes an “A” rated character constantly selling books enough to make the top 10 most months in the Diamond Sales List. However with the movie news indicating reboot time, cancellation and a re-imaging in cartoon form (Spectacular dead – Ultimate starting 2011) you have to ask is he going to be in it or is he a DLC or even not at all.
And the Fantastic Four and other characters dont get much of a say so in the previous incarnations – Sue Storm would be cool in the new 3d world having invisible powers and forcefields – and Mr Fantastic could go down the Vega route from the capcom stable.
However its fantastic news and im looking forward to the new imagery ala Strret Fighter 4 – the new style should work well for Capcom and Marvel.

Holy shit. Marvel Vs. Capcom 3… We know for a fact we’ll see the mainstay fighters from X-Men, Street Fighter, and Dark Stalkers. But Capcom has a much more vast group of fighters to call on then they did ten years ago. Throwing Chris R. in there also blows the door open on having possible ranged fighters in there, so expecting them to call on Megaman or Zero isn’t beyond the realm of possibility. Dante is a must, and beyond that, I don’t know of anyone else off the top of my head. And as far as Marvel is concerned, all of the options available could be thrown into a hat and picked one at a time and still have great results. Can’t wait for its release, and I’m unable to choose one of you two to win. However, my vote goes to you, Joe. Practice makes perfect. Want to see a vid of the fight, as well as one of you two on MvC2.

I hope Capcom doesn’t keep recycling the same Marvel characters. We need variety dammit!!! I would love to see characters like; Ghostrider, Blade, The Punisher, The Thing, Deadpool, SpiderWoman, She Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Taskmaster, Bullseye, Daredevil… As for Capcom; Megaman X, Nemesis (RE3), Rad Spencer (Bionic Commando Rearmed), Krauser, Leon, Samonoske (Onimusha), Q… We need more Q!!!
I can’t wait! I haven’t had much expirience playing Marvel Vs Capcom except for the arcade on my campus, but I am really looking forward to this. I doubt there will be as many characters to the roster, but at least they better get in the good ones dammit!

So many characters there can be but there is a part of me that wishes they just ended after mvc2. How can you get better than that. They certainly aren’t going to make an arcade machine of it although that would be AWESOME. I can’t tell you how much I poured into mvc2 arcade machines, but that was years ago when gaming was different. Also the dreamcast version is the only version of mvc2 I recognize.
As for characters they better bring back Capt. Commando and Serverbot…
If its console released then this game is gonna easily cost over $100….$60 for the game then all the DLC to get those extra characters….Maybe they’ll invent the “capcom network” and give you a one time code for access and if you buy it used you gotta pay $15- $25 to gain access to the network.
Dante is needed in this game. Lady or Trish would be cool too. Frank West from Dead Rising would be awesome especially if all his attacks and combo involved random improvised weapons. The wolf from Okami. Wesker would be very fun.
I don’t know many Marvel characters unless they’ve been in a movie, were in a marvel game, I watched them in cartoon form as a kid, or Linkara has harassed them. Though I am kinda partial to Norse mythology so Thor gets my vote even if he wasn’t a complete bad ass. Scarlet Witch, Nightcrawler, Mysterio, Holocaust, and Apocalypse all seem like they would make cool characters. I would want Apocalypse to be a boss/unlockable character. Mysterio would be fun especially if he could screw with the other character with his moves. Same with Scarlet Witch. I’ve always like Holocaust, just don’t know why. And Nightcrawler teleport spam would be fun.
I hope Mega Man will be in since I hear that it may be more modernized. Oh dear god, they better not put EXE Mega Man in there or I will be bustin’ a cap in someones head.
Well, there’s possibility Dante and Virgil; Frank West; Viewtiful Joe; Claire Redfield; The Punisher; maybe some Onimusha, Clock Tower, Lost Planet, Breath of Fire, or Killer7 characters; Regina from Dino Crisis would be very nice; they might be able to use Kratos; Wesker would be cool; and Nathan Spencer from Bionic Commando or William A. Grey from Dark Void if they REALLY wanted to.
If they remove Felicia, Hayato, or Captain Commando, I’m gonna be pissed.
It is my professional and extremely SCIENTIFIC prediction that Dante will be in this game.

As stated on Twitter earlier, I had my doubts, because an increase in the graphics and gameplay would mean a decrease somewhere else. Where this would be? The roster. It is rumored that the game will ship with a 30-character roster, 15 for each side. If this is true, we’ve already been shown more than one-third of the roster IN THE TEASER! I honestly hope that this isn’t true about the roster being short-handed. I want a Marvel vs. Capcom with a 100 character roster, damnit!

I agree with Kafudanapa however. I worry they’ll try to modernize stuff and it may take away from the more nostalgic gamers. I have no idea on the roster, but I would much rather play with Strider than Frank West. I mean c’mon, Frank West is B.A. in his own, but he doesn’t really fit the fighter genre. Strider, however, was born for it. Optimal situation? Have em Both =D.
Based on the silhouettes and some other official art (linked below), there are some rumors floating around the internets. These rumors are pretty awesome.

On the Capcom side, one of the characters is pretty clearly Chun-Li. Another, it has been speculated, is Dante, star of the Devil May Cry games. Another Darkstalkers character, Felicia, also seems to be present. Street Fighter IV’s Seth and Juri have been tossed around too. Also, Frank West, because he’s covered wars ya know. Additionally, while there’s been nothing to so much as hint at this, I’m sure we would all love to see how Phoenix Wright would fare in a fight.
As for Marvel’s side of the tracks, Captain America, Doctor Doom, and Deadpool make up the line from left to center in the trailer. However, the character on the left of the linked picture looks an awful lot like a Super Skrull. Magneto and Storm have been confirmed already (in no small part because of their regular use by tournament fighters), so that’s also something to look forward to.
Given all this, I’m a bit concerned that Marvel may be lacking in female fighters. That is, unless they do something completely crazy and throw Squirrel Girl into the game.
Another concern is the absence of Spider-Man. Activision is currently working on Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, and Activision being Activision, I wouldn’t put it past them to try to block Spidey’s inclusion in this game. Further adventures in pointlessly aggressive litigation.
I’m pretty sure, looking at the Capcom logo in the trailer and looking at a promo poster for the game, that Dante from Devil May Cry and Deadpool are in the game…I really hope so cause they’re my favorite characters in both companies…plus they’re both badass!!!
Unfortunately, they’ve already said the roster will be around 30 characters. While there were some throwaway characters in MvC2, I don’t think there were 26! Even then those characters added an element of madcap silliness that made the game fun. Think about it, would that game be as awesome if you couldn’t fight Juggernaut with a servebot?
I think Capcom will include some of their newer successful characters like: Bayonetta, Frank West, Dante, etc. We’ll probably lose some of their older ones like Strider (which I would not be happy about.)
My guess is that Marvel will push Characters that are going to be part of the Avengers movie (Thor, etc.) and we’ll lose all the duplicate-skin characters (bone-claw wolverine & War Machine). I think they know which characters they want advertised and they’ll push for them in the game. Whether Capcom will agree is another matter.
If their intention is to drop the roster size for balance issues, I think they’ve missed the whole point of the game.
sorry Joe but I had to vote for NC. I’m a big fan of you but you did say before your strategy was about picking one character and owning with them. MvC makes you pick 3. Sure three of the same but still NC seems like he might have more of a team based pick.
Also you can tell theres Dante, Frank west, Felicia and who to me appears to be Victor or Donovan from Dark Stalkers.

On the Marvel logo, the two leftmost of supposed Deadpool… the leftmost one looks like he has Captain America’s headwings. Between them is an apparently hooded figure. Doctor Doom, perhaps?
I must say… I’ve never been a huge fan of 2D fighting games, having never gotten into console gaming until the late 90s, missing the golden era of the 2D fighter and moving straight into 3D fighters; as such, my skills with such titles tends to suck. Yet EVEN SO, this game looks compelling enough for me to try out…
