Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) Movie Review

Short Version: A pointless cash-grab remake that goes through the motions paying homage to the original but adding nothing of its own, aside from a “darker tone”. Gee how original. In just a few months no one will remember this film, just the superior original classic. It’s only saving grace is Jackie Earle Haley performance despite the material given to him.
What you’ll Like:
• Jackie Earle Haley is an excellent successor to Robert Englund as Freddy.
• Freddy is More Evil and more Disturbing but lacks the same “Charm”.
• The Last 5 Seconds of the Movie. (more FX like this please)
• The upset look on my lady friends face next to me when the “Twilight” kid dies at the beginning.
What you’ll Hate:
• Freddy’s New Face is Terrible.
• The New Nancy isn’t as resourceful and strong as the original Nancy.
• If the intent was to make the movie more visceral and scary by removing the camp and charm it failed.
• A Boring, Uninspired waste of an Iconic Horror Villain – what was the point? Just $$$.
Final Verdict:
5/10
Average
(But a Disappointment in my eyes because i’m a Huge Fan of Freddy)

I agree dude.
Also I was playing “A Night on Bald Mountain” while watching this, it gave the review atmosphere so fitting it made me laugh.

Great review Joe (as always), but you were TOO KIND to this messy peace of shit.
This movie made me pissed off….I love the original movies too much to let the problems of this movie to slide

Wow. Wow. Wow. I swear YOU stated exactly what I was thinking. Thank goodness I waited until this movie was available on DVD at my local library for the low cost of 0.50 cents per night. Needless to say I only got to the part where the “new” Nancy was about to fall asleep in the bathtub. I just could NOT ingest anymore bad acting and the horror of wasting my time watching this pathetic new version. Your comments about the “twilight” kids were true but so funny! Katie Cassidy a/k/a Kris had tons of bags under her eyes and makeup only highlighted them instead of hiding them. Heck this chic looked OLDER than her on-screen MOM! To any and all ignore the FAKE reviews on IMDb. This movie truly SUCKED!

This movie was painful, it was really painful. I actually wrote a review of this on my website, it will soon be a video review because I’m doing the whole Nightmare and Elmstreet series this month. The thing that really bugged me about this remake was the fact that they did what every other remake has been doing and that is adding a backstory to the killer. What’s even worse is that they make these stories sympathetic, to where they want you to feel bad for the killer and that is just stupid. One of the things that made the original Halloween, Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elmstreet good was the fact that there was a certain mystery to these characters. While the original Elmstreet did reveal Freddy’s past a bit, there still was a lot of questions on why he showed up in these kids nightmares. These remakes takes a lot of these mysteries away and it ends up ruining the effect that the killer has in the movie.

I thought this one of the better remakes. After seeing Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th, i lost all hope for this movie. But i enjoyed it very much. The only things that hold it down are bad acting from Roni Mara and Thomas Dekker. Plus the whole jump scare after jump scare. For me its a 9/10

I personally hate slasher films. Cutting someone up and showing all the blood and gore isn’t real horror. That’s why I made this handy questionarre.
How to determine a good horror film:
1. Is it Evil Dead? (If yes, WIN!; If no, next question)
2. Is it a remake? (If yes, FAIL!; If no, next question)
3. Is it part of a popular but deteriorating franchise? (If yes, next question; If no, skip)
4. Is it the first or second movie in the series? (If yes, next question; If no, FAIL!)
5. Is it based off a video game? (If yes, FAIL!; If no, next question)
6. Does it feature (1) an all-star cast or (2) relative unknown’s? (If 1, next question; If 2, skip)
7. (1) Are they actually acting or (2) is it mostly cameos? (If 1, next; If 2, it better have a good story)
8. Does the main character annoy you? (If yes, next question; If no, skip)
9. Is he/she (1) an idiot or (2) do you just hate his/her guts? (If 1, FAIL!; If 2, continue)
10. Does it have a good villain/monster? (If yes, skip; If no, next question)
11. Is it retarded/CGI or do you just hate it because you’re supposed to? (If yes, FAIL!, If no, WIN!)
12. Are there moments of insanity/horror on a psychological level? (If yes, continue; If no skip)
13. Do they mesh with the story well and aren’t just big-lipped alligator moments? (If yes, WIN!; If no, next question)
14. Did it make it to the end with 2 FAILS! or less?
With one FAIL! the film is going to be a classic.
With two FAILS!, it’s a must-see, and may become a cult-hit.
Any more than that, it’s not worth your time.

I disliked this movie so much. It was terribly boring…Jackie was ok. AND ROONEY MARA WAS TERRIBLE. She was NOT fit to wear the name NANCY. Even if they did change the last name…she was terrible. The original will always be my favorite…Robert Englund and Heather Langenkamp forever <3

If platinum Dunes remakes Jak Frost the better make it great or i’m gonna raise hell!
a nightmare on elmstreet remake was ok but they left soooooooooooooooooo much of the good stuff, and the way Platinum dunes is going is almost exactly like well EA! In may perspective.

The nightmare on elm street 2010 was good I liked it but Robert England will always be the best. The Friday the 13th 2009 SUCKED! I hated it! And I am a huge fan! Jason does not hold people in chains he just kills! I hated that part in the movie. The new Halloween movies are okay but I was not crazy about them. Stop trying to remake classic films. Leave them alone.

On Wikipedia it said the make-up crew and CG people tried to make him look like MORE of a burn victim. If Joe thinks he looks like less of one, major failure on their part.

I HAVE YET TO SEE THE NEW NIGHTMARE HOWEVER I LOVE THE NEW TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRES AND THE NEW FRIDAY THE 13TH WASN’T HALF BAD AND THE NEW HALLOWEENS ARE DOPE! NOTHING EVER COMPARES TO THE ORIGINAL HOWEVER IN SOME OF THESE CASES I THINK THEY DID AN AWESOME JOB! I WILL HOLD MY OPINION ON THE NEW FREDDY TILL I SEE HIM IN ACTION BUT I THINK THAT EVEN THOUGH NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE ORIGINALS THEY ARE TRYING TO REACH A NEW AUDIENCE AND CASH IN! SOMETIMES IT’S GOOD, SOMETIMES IT’S NOT! BUT SO MUCH CAN BE SAID FOR TECHNOLOGY…… MAKING SHIT LOOK MORE REAL AND BLOOD MORE GORY….. I SAY HELL YEAH! I’M OLDSCHOOL SO I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THE CLASSICS BUT IN SOME CASES THE NEW ONES ARE BETTER!

I have to say that the only reason Halloween remakes work is because they had a great director who gave it an edge that made it more intense. I will never ever ever see another horror remake by Michael Bay! He ruins everything! Leave well enough alone unless you can put an interesting spin on it.

Are you kidding me? Rob Zombie, no offense to the guy, is a shit director. He uses so much shakey cam, and so much damn over the top, digusting characters, that his movies, all of them, even The Devils Rejects, can be called sub-par at best. His movies have camp value, but that doesn’t make the awful characters justifiable.
