All of the things that Joe wanted to make the game better were later added to the game, which is awesome. I have been engulfed in RDR since I bought it. I’ve no-lifed this game so much, I ask other players to compete in quickdraw competitions online. Definitely a 10/10 game.

Spot on review Joe. Red Dead Redemption is THE western game I have waiting my whole life for.
The ONLY thing I wish was in the game was more of the struggle between the Native American Indians and the encroaching settlers.
I understand that by the time the story takes place (1910-1912) that most of that was over. However,
I wish the story had taken place just a few years prior to have that part of history.
You could have chosen to side with the Indians and try to keep the settlers from taking the land,
or you could have joined the U.S. Calvary and assisted in the Battle of Little Bighorn, Bull-run, etc.. Escorted forty-niners to California. So many things that could still be told in the RDR sage. I hope RockStar has thought of these ideas because so much of the Old West is still ripe for the picking.

this game was hours after hours of fun, but i couldnt manage to complete the game because of how boring it got after some time, and i certainly love sandbox games, but doing the same things time after time after time just destroyed the fun for me, so i must say my final verdict must be 9/10

I disagree with the score of 10. BEFORE you guys rage is because it wasn’t for the PC. I know people are going to say I’m a PC fan boy, but I’m not I owned a 360 for 3 years and I always notice that there is a double standard out there. I’m complaining of developers that had games on the PC before, but now don’t because of the money prospect of it. On the other hand 360 and PS3 owners will be complaining when BF3 comes out and they only got 24 player multiplayer while the PC players are enjoying 64 player match ups. I love this game a lot, but not being diverse I would give it a 9.5 which is actually still really good.

Since I bought a PS3 just recently, I thought it would be a good idea to start my collection with this game. Bought it in a sell, brand new for just 20 euro’s. Enjoyed the sh*t out of it so far. Thanks joe!

When i originally heard about this game i thought “Man this is looking like one of those games you get and play again and again over the course of your life” And after watching your top 5 reasons, reading game informer and then playing the game myself it was confirmed. This game is awesome. I 100 percent agree with your review and when it was over i felt sad

Joe, you should edit the part where you said the bad part is that you can’t play mini games. Since there is now the Liars and Cheats Pack, you are able to play all of those mini games you said. So it makes sense that you said this game deserves a 10/10!

Wow! I admit, I’d probably do the same if I had the hat and gun belt. I’d just probably practice quick draws. Anyways, now that there’s DLC that actually DOES let you play some mini-games with other players, does it solidify its 10/10 rating even more?

Got the game mainly for my brother for Christmas. I have to agree, it’s the most impressive western game I have ever seen. Us being western fans to begin with (especially Old Tucson Studios). I hope this game from an unlikely company proves that the westerns, when done right, can be great (Red Dead being no exception). I do also agree Multi-player with Poker and Black Jack is a MUST! In fact, somebody has to have a pharaoh game.Pharaoh is totally western! The possibilities are endless and have not been disappointed…

At FIRST I was really wondering why people were making such a big deal about red dead redemption, but after seeing how much money was put into this game, and how good the reviews wear considering that the game theme is western, and that the game play of single player and multi player is awesome, makes want to buy it now. I will try to get it as soon as I can!

All the glitches in the game are really funny and they usually consist of horses flying up in the air. One time i had a glitch were I had to escort this carriage and arfter the cutscene the carriage right in front of me flys in the air and 30 seconds later it fell back down and exploded!!!! lol

It costs 2 dollers for a shot of rum.
Already this is a waay too high.
However, this was back in 1911, where $1.50 got you hotel room for 2 nights.
With inflation, this means that the rum in Red Dead Redemption costs like, $113 a shot!

i purchased this game less then a month after it came out… and i have never been the same. This game is so good, all other games feel like a punch to my face. It has gripping story, amazing graphs, tramatic moments that you’ll never forget. If a sequal to this game ever came out, i would buy it immediatly. Sure they couldnt place a direct sequal to this story, but they could have the story take place after John’s time. Mabye the main charecter trained John’s son, TDK, but it could fit intot he plot.

This easily could be the greatest game on earth to date! when i played RDR for the first time, i was like WOW! and this was on the first cutscene, and then the game just got better and better. i agree with joe and give this a SOLID 10/10! along with my Asskicking Medal of Recomendation!

Okay, in my last post, I mentioned how this game doesn’t deserve a 10/10, at least, not from a Single Player perspective (Long story, but I don’t have LIVE). I did notice that I made a slight error.
There ARE more save spots, but accessing them is fucking ridiculous. Let’s start with how to make a New Game after already completing the game once.
You need to start up the game, select Single Player, wait for it to load, bring up the menu in-game, go down to “Game”, bring up the files, and hit X, and then wait for it to load up the New Game.
How about loading existing games?
Again, start up the game, hit Single Player, whereupon it will take you to your first file, probably not the one you want, go to “Game” in the menu, select your file, and wait for it to load.
Yeah, I was wrong, there are more files, but why the FUCK is it so damned complicated just to have another file? It’s worse than Mercenaries 2 in that regard! All you need is a file select screen on the Main Menu! Is that so hard to do?

One of my favourite games, its beautiful! They got the feel of it just right. Fantastic story, not cliche at all. Rockstar literally rocks. Everyone who has not played this game should listen to Cowboy Joe and buy it right now.

i’d have to give this game a 9.5( joe should make those) because while everything is fun and entertaining in the single player and co-op missions, the free roam felt like a grindfest. the best way to earn xp was to just keep doing pike’s basin over and over again. and also legends and killers dlc is a rip-off for $10. think about it, do u think ppl will kill with a high power pistol or a tomahawk? pistol of course. will u ever use any other skins when u pick the one u like? not likely. who honestly plays gang matches or any other competitive matches like that? not many people.

I rented it…for a week took me 5days to finish and i played it straight for 5 days and i didnt get around to mutliplayer because i was doing everything i missed but seriously i was woundering at several points in the game if it was gunna end…half the time in games i beat there single player in like half a day and im like noo it cant be over…this game i was like when will it end lol after three days i was ready to buy it but you know the prize i really wish i got around to the mulitplayer tho i hope i can get my hands on a copy soon :3

While I agree that this game should have received a ten (no game is perfect, or ever will be), Mass Effect 2 was much farther from it than Red Dead. Mass Effect was a fairly good action game masquerading as an RPG, a game in which the choices you make more than superficially affect the game’s play and outcome. It seemed more like a game that was gearing up for a sequel rather than one with important results behind every action.

As much as I enjoy playing Red Dead Redemption I can’t say it deserves a 10/10. Of course that is just my personal opinion and I differ from each person here. I’m that guy that loves playing as a murderer, thief, and just overall bad ass and of course you can play that way in RDR but it has no effect whatsoever on how people treat you or how the story evolves. The game is always assuming that you’re the respectable John Marston that only hates the ignorant fool. I did say I like to be the bad ass so why can’t Mr. Bad Ass rob a train, invade a person’s home and take hostages, hang someone from a tree, etc. And why are the missions so repetitive? Ride a horse, shoot stuff, herd cattle, kill that rascalally rabbit, and nothing. Still I recommend this game to anyone, it is a great game but it falls short. With a bit more mission variety, an array of dastardly deeds to commit, and proper a.i. reactions the next Red Dead game could set the benchmark not just for the sandbox genre but for all games. Here is me hoping.

I really have to say, I have played the game for the second time, and I do have to say, that I enjoyed it alot. Though I find it a bit weird that I never once saw the glitches you mentioned. I got a glitch where a throwing knife got stuck in my hand at one point, but that’s all there is on my end.
While I agree the game deserves it’s score, I have a few issues with it:
For starters, the free roam does not feel as lively as the single player campaign. And it can be hard finding a free roam where there are a lot of gamers on there. But at least, I can pass the time with the ambient challenges.
I do have to agree that I find it a bit BS that the minigames on the Single Player were not available on multiplayer. But least we got DLC for it. Though I wonder how will it turn out?
Selecting characters for multiplayer is a bit lame if you ask me, regardless of how impressive the selection is. I would have found it most welcome if I am able to create my own character like that in GTA 4 for a sense of uniqueness. And I would have liked it if I can go horsebreaking online. Though it is hard to pull off especially since some gamers might be dickish enough to kill you if you do so.
All that aside, I still find it fun to play

I think you were far too generous with this game Joe. Is it fun? Yeah. Is it good? Yeah. Is it a 10/10? Probably not.
Firstly, there are a lot of graphical glitches, like you said. I often found Marston trying to take cover on air.
Secondly, I was pretty pissed off that you didn’t get any kind of grenade until a little ways into the second act.
Thirdly, there was NO REASON to be evil. NO REASON. Money was abundant in the game, so you don’t need to rob anyone, and the rewards for being good far outweigh the evil rewards.
Fourthly, why is there only one save spot? What if I want to start from scratch? You can argue that they compensated for this by allowing you to replay missions, but it was still bullshit. Assassin’s Creed wised up and gave us more save spots, why couldn’t this? The formula works like this: The first save spot it your 100% game. You unlock all the achievements and everything here. Your second spot is your for fun spot, the one you deleted and play through again and again, and your third spot is for a friend.
Fifthly, and this ties in with number 3, the immersion is nearly drowned. There’s no reason to steal or break any horses. You get one of the best horses in the game early on in a story mission, and even if that dies, you get a magic deus ex machina horse. You don’t need to eat, drink, or sleep, which I thought was the whole point of the desert setting. Some people may not have liked that realistic aspect of it, but it would have been nice if there was a “Hardcore Mode” like New Vegas will have.
Lastly, and this was a big problem for me, I found no reason to explore the world. I just went wherever the missions or challenges took me. That was to a lot of places, don’t get me wrong, but I never felt compelled to explore the far corners of the map like I did in say Fallout 3 or Dragon Age: Origins (Not a total sandbox game, but still).
For me, the final verdict stands at probably 8/10 or 9/10. That’s still a great game, and it’s still worth buying, I just think you were a little too generous.
And actually, I prefer the 1-5 scale, as that makes it much easier to classify games. On that scale, RDR would definitely be a 5/5. But on your scale, I just can’t see it as a 10/10.

first, they had fixed most of the glitches.and your game cant frezze anymore.
second, why are you pissed off there is no grenades in the wild west? it is a western game, not call of duty.
third, the reason joe(and i) robbed banks was becuse we allwayes wanted to be a crazy outlaw and getting a bounty on your head, not becuse of the money.
fourth, the first is for the story, you can save at a safehouse at any of the other loads.
fifth, the reason you CAN break horses is to have fun. and that is that red dead is about, fun.
finaly, if you do not like westerns, then why did you play the game? if you really love westerns when you whoud have loved to explore the world, find places that reminds you of old western films. that was one of the best thing about rdr, the west.
i give the game 10\10. a masterpiece. i love this game and i love westerns. exuse my spelling, im from sweden.
