Lord of the Rings: War In The North Angry Interview
Angry Joe gets new details from the Founder of Snowblind Studios Ryan Geithman regarding their new upcoming RPG LOTR: War in the North! Finally an RPG that’s fully cooperative through the entire single player campaign with 3 or more players!
What do you think, are you excited about a playing through the world of Middle-Earth with 3 of your online buddies? or are you sick of the Lord of the Ring franchise by this point even if its cooperative?

I am no longer sure the place you are getting your info, however good topic. I needs to spend some time studying more or working out more. Thank you for excellent info I used to be on the lookout for this info for my mission.

Totally agree with Ianuarius, lotr is a dark and believable universe, almost folklore; and every game has become less in that style and more of typical high fantasy. How long is it before we see giant green muscle bound warhammer style orks and dark elves?
I’m glad I’m not the only one that couldn’t beat that bloody first level on the fellowship. Great improvement for the next two games. I’m just sad they never made a trilogy where you play through all the events. There are also characters like Eomer and Theoden that I’d like to be able to play as, but they get cheaper voice actors by playing the creatre your own character card.

I’m hoping and expecting Angry Joe to be pissed off with this game when it releases because like I said, it’s just another rip off of Boulder’s Gate.
The previous LOTR RPG’s were mediocre and this one will probably be a little bit better but not original.
The multiplayer also doesn’t impress me. You may as well go play Diablo or something.

By the way, I forgot to mention that Angry Joe should be extra POed because this is just more corporate BS milking the Lord of the Rings name…

Why would he be pissed just because it’s a Baldur’s Gate ripoff? If the game is good i don’t care if it rips off every western rpg out there. It’s LoTR, it’s really hard to make something with that setting that is completely new and fresh. Baldur’s Gate has a working format if they make a good game that is similar to it then what the hell is the problem? It’s not like there’s too many of them in new gen gaming.

Well if it becomes a good copy of Baldurs gate it will be good cause BG is the best RPG ever

Me and my friends are soo excited for this. I remember the closest coop lotr game was the movie games. Best is return of the king game me and my family spamming southern gate for EXP. Was hoping LOTR the third age would have been like this and not turned based.

It’s just another rip off of boulders gate like the previous LOTR games.

I absolutely LOVED Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance 1 and 2, and the entire Champions series on the ps2. I can only expect greatness from this game!

The new LOTR RPG game looks the same as the previous LOTR RPG games which are rip offs of Boulders Gate.
I’m not looking forward to this one.

Meh, kind of, depends on how good this game is.
My question is if it is open ended, because a big part of an RPG for me is if it has that feeling that you are exploring strange and unusual places, or if it will work like many co-op games do where there are separate scenarios you play through as a team, a-la Left 4 Dead or Killing Floor.
If it offers an open ended experience as well as the co-op gameplay, I am all for this game, if not then…eh? If it is good I might rent it, the open ended worlds is what generally makes or breaks an RPG for me.
Well, if it’s not a good, open-ended co-op game, there’s always Pokémon Black and White, or even the underground in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.

Ehhh.. I think the game will be OK, but I’m going to guess that it ends up around a 5 or 6/10 game. Its main purpose is obviously to cash in on the franchise, but it really strikes me as a Gauntlet Legends or Champions of Norrath style game with some improvements and a different view. It just doesn’t wow me. Don’t get me wrong, I love LOTR, but unless you like games like Champions of Norrath and similar games, I can’t honestly believe you’ll like this game. If that sort of game is your style, then hey, probably the game for you.

Is this an expansion, or it’s own thing? I don’t know much about LRO. Is it subscription based? SO MANY QUESTIONS! …Man, that guys tall.

Dang I am a bit angry with Peter Jackson. Before LoTR incarnations all used to have vastly different styles and animation types that went into them. Since PJ’s LOTR everything looks like his LOTR. In any event can’t wait to see more about this.

Charmed reference, sweet! XD But I don’t know how good it will be, only time will tell.

I am hopeful this game proves to be good. I like the idea of a LOTR RPG the world is massive, rich in history, and has amazing potential. The original series on the PS2 was started off poorly with the Fellowship since I could not get beyond the Shire with those Ringwraiths, in other words the first level. Two Towers and Return of the King were fun but lakced anything truly unique other than the thrill to play as kickass characters. The story will either be a faithful hommage or a complete fail here’s to fingers crossed that there will be no star wars anti canon like story telling. I wish Bioware was doing this game

LoTR games in the past have been alright in my opinion. As for this game, it makes me think of The Third Age. Granted, that was about a character following in the Fellowship’s footsteps, but still. I’ll just stay on the safe side and wait on your review, Joe. Like the new format btw.

When i first heard about this game was exited then heard Co-op based and was immediately turned off. But now kinda exited again. Thanks Joe! Love the new site BTW(and sorry for my crappy writing)

Oh ok I thought this was going to be an MMO. This sounds awesome then I can’t wait to try it out. The only other LOTR game I have ever played was Return of the King on PS2 which I think I remembered liking.

Welll…. LotR can’t be too out there. I think LotRo is ruined, because it’s too colorful and there’s so much stuff and spells and… ugh…
How many spells are used in Lord of the Rings… you know the book? Gandalf uses some intimidation spell in Bagend, then he lights some firewood at the mountains, shows light with his staff, then casts two spells in Moria… I think other was to weaken the bridge and other was for locking a door or something?… but I think that’s about it. Then Saruman casts some spells to make the weather worse, again… in the mountains. None of these are like “SUPER FIREBALL” or “CHAIN LIGHTNING” spells. That’s F****** stupid…. that’s World of Warcraft stuff. You can count the spells casted in the books with your fingers and basically every other RPG out there is about how many fireballs can you cast in a minute.
There shouldn’t be too much loot either. Like Joe said, that’s not too much like LotR. You can have loot sure, but to make it blend in there is a crafty thing. It requires some sense of style.
That reminds me, if you can customize your character with tons of armors and colorful clothing, the game is gonna look real stupid. To me, Middle-Earth is a dark and gray place. If your character looks like a F******* peacock with tons and tons of “detailed” stuff attached to the outfit, then it’s gonna ruin it for me. Why can’t you just wear a plain shirt or leather armor without any additional decorations fuzzing out the character? That would be normal… and that’s what makes LotR special… it feels normal… like something that could actually happen.

That sounds boring as shit.

Yeah, well, lucky for you, there are like a gazillion rpg’s that aren’t boring as shit.

Ianuarius, you undestand that in order for people to make profit, they really can’t follow the source material (especially in this case, since magic is like super rare (in lack of a better expression)) perfectly (in lack of a better expression, again), right?
Yeah, sure, we’ve seen that a thousand times. Corporations rule and fanboys suck their dicks, because it’s all they can get. You gotta just make a WoW copy and slam a LotR as a title for it. Sure it can be a good game, but it’s got nothing to do with Lord of the Rings.

You forgot about The Hobbit were Gandalf uses his staff to kill goblins in a cave, and when he lights pine cones on fire to harm the wargs, still you make an exelent point!

i really hope it turns out ok cos the online game wasnt that good so if they do something like dragon age just with LOTR it will be great
