Monday Night Combat the best Summer of Arcade Game?

Monday Night Combat might have what it takes to be the best of this years Summer of Arcade on Xbox Live. I’m not sure why but I was initially ignoring all the media on this game for some odd reason. I was totally wrong to do so!

Here’s a Video Highlighting all the Character Classes in the Game:

There looks to be just the right amount of fast-paced action, style, and comedy in this team based Third Person Shooter that takes it’s cue’s from the excellent Team Fortress 2. If its anywhere near as good as the game that inspired it we will have a steal at only $15 (1200 MS points).

The Competition:
Limbo was artsy but disappointingly short.
Hyrdo Thunder was fun for racing game fans but showed its age.
Castlevania: Harmony of Despair is fun with a full compliment of 6 co-op players but cant live up to its brothers.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is a contender but wont have the staying power of competitive multiplayer.

I can’t stand games where its one bullet kills all day long (Blacklight: Tango Down) – its difficult to formulate more complex team maneuvers and impossible to correct a twitch mistake.

I prefer games where you can take a least a handful of hits and the competitive advantage swings back and forth clearly. Which is why I like the strategic aspects of the game seen here – we can still see all the run and gun stuff in the background – but its clear there’s a good amount of strategy involved depending on which character class you select. Plus, itsa’ HIM Mario!

What do you think? Could this be the best of the lot this year? We’ll find out on August 11th!

Official Description of the Game:

Monday Night Combat is a class-based, third-person shooter … and the most popular lethal sport of the future! It blends intense combat, finishing moves, and gameshow-like challenges and rewards to produce an action experience unlike any other. Why fight for “honor” or “duty” when you can fight for the real American dream — cash, fame and endorsements?

Game Modes:

Crossfire:
Teams of six battle each other to destroy the others Moneyball. To do so they must make sure their robots get to the other team’s money ball. Only the robots can damage the money ball at first by damaging their shield but after the sheilds are down all players can also contribute.

Blitz:
Is where 4 players protect their moneyball against waves of robots. This gametype can also be played alone, 2 player splitscreen or 4 player online.
