Monday Night Combat Review
Short Version: Monday Night Combat is one of the Best Summer of Arcade Games for 2010, the strategy elements alone make this title more addicting than your standard shooters. Unfortunately its light on game modes and could use a more substantial tutorial, but whats here is detailed and well balanced, an excellent first effort that only needs a few more additions.
What you’ll Like:
• The graphics, animations and art Style look great.
• Good amount of class variety with 6 professions each with their own upgrades and abilities.
• More strategy elements than your standard shooter – building, upgrading protecting turrets while escorting your bots to victory.
• Local and Online Co-op, Party Lobbies and Local Guest accounts that can play split screen with you in Crossfire mode.
• Best Part: Dominating with a fully upgraded support class – Calling down airstrikes, laying firebases, sucking the life out of enemies while overcharging and healing my teammates.
What you’ll Hate:
• Only 2 game modes, Blitz and Crossfire on maps that feel relatively identical.
• Needs a more substantial tutorial mode.
• Why does this league only have 2 teams? Additional teams with some unique abilities or styles would have been great.
• Worst Part: Realizing the Life and Energy in the Trailers aren’t in the game. No Story Mode.

7/10 is fair, but not sure that MNC will be the best game of the summer on XBLA, you got Lara Croft, wich is also a good coop game, shank an old style arcade game, scott pilgrimm a tribute to double dragon and 8 bit console. but for sure MNC is an excellent game and worth to play, in an other hand… how many map got Battlefield 1943 ? 3 and a bonus map. XBLA game are games made to play quick and also to be fun. Even if you gave MNC diserved not a bad ass seal but a KICK ASS seal
I got the demo for this game, and it was sooo fun! I also made my brother watch this review to try and persuade him into downloading it. So he did, and he was like “what the hell, how am I being killed!?” (after being killed about 5 times in a row by an assassin) and he was getting ready to quit. I was like “You’ve been playing it for like 10 mins..give it chance” So he did and then he was VERY happy when he got his first kill lol. Its true that it takes a little while before you get the hang of it and when you finally do, its very addicting.

I’ve played this game and it’s really fun, except when i’m getting assassinated, I hate that. But, on the other hand the assassin is really fun to play as.

for those of you that say this is TF2 ripoff, have you even played it yet? Stylistically and visually it is very similar. It does try and mimic the humor that TF2 has, but why wouldn’t it? If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. The class setup is the same as every other shooter. The Assault, Medic, Sniper, and Heavy weapons guy are in almost every multiplayer shooter whether it is based around specific classes or not. In CoD you can make every type of class they have in TF2, besides the pyro and medic just by setting up your weapon, perks and killstreaks that way. In BF:BC you have all those same classes already spelled out for you to play as. Every game out there takes what works with other games and modifies it for their own uses.
Gameplay wise, it couldn’t be farther from TF2. First off, this is a third person shooter. This doesn’t offer as many gameplay modes, but its only $15. I would like more, but i just hope they release a sequel that expands on the game alot more for full price. The gameplay modes it does have aren’t anything like what TF2 offers either. One is like GoW’s Horde mode and Halo: ODST’s Firefight. The other is more like DoTA or LoL since your are fighting bots on a path as much as you are other players. You earn money for each kill and by picking up coins that you use to upgrade your skills, so it has some RPG elements too. TF2 doesn’t offer anything like that.
Just try the game out, you can download the demo for free. Give this game a chance before you write it off as a crappy ripoff.
TLDR: It only looks like TF2, but besides that its nothing like it. Just try it out or STFU.

What do “ahve”, “disagey”, “siper”, “ganer”, and “excoreing” mean? Also, could you say that the “siper” is OVERPOWERED and that the “siper” SHOT you in the head tons of times?
This game is definitly worth the money. It deserves more of a Nine than a Seven. I mean. once you get the hang of it, its amazing!!
Even after watching the review, This game WREAKS with the stench of a TF2 ripoff. Many moments in TF2 are in third person, as well as many of the classes look very similar. Seriously… swap the characters for the tank and the gunner class, give him a Russian accent, shave his beard and WHAT DO YOU HAVE??? TF2′S HEAVY CLASS!! Also, watch more of those Meat the “Team”(/Sniper/Heavy/Scout/Spy but mostly sniper) video’s and tell me Monday night combat’s Sniper doesn’t look like TF2′s sniper.
This just looks like Microsoft’s attempt to put the PC version of Team Fortress 2 on the Xbox 360 after the fact that they stopped updating the Xbox version of TF2 because of issues with the data size of Xbox 360 hard drives.
Bought the game finally, so I can have my personnal opinion on how it is. Except your review, I didn’t know about this game ( that’s the reason why I watch you know ) and I must say that I love the art style. Yes it’s similar to TF2. but that’s a good thing ! I LOVE that kind of funny cartoon style, it puts some atmosphere between those realistic games. I love the gameplay, the overall classes ( I play support or sniper, my favorites
) . It’s a ton of fun, just lacking some more modes and teams, just like you said in your review. Awesoem game, awesome review, I’m going back to play it 
I dont know agry joe…. but if you say this is a ok game.. but you thought bfbc2 was good.. i think it sucks balls. somehow if your new you lack the equipment to kill another dude.

i do ok in bf42 bfv bf2 and bf2142 wich i think are beter titels then the bfbc2.

most have a real coop and you dont have to buy it.. wich should be there in the first place.
this is a game not worth 60bucks or 44euro.
oh i did forget to mention on the box it says rules the seas? no batleship or cruiser wich i can steer.

make battlefield 1942 the king since it is still the best of all the battlefield. or otherwise battlefield2142 for the titan mode since that is a really good mode to get you into it.
again if you like to get pissed off all the time go play bfbc2. i liked the MW2 also besides the nukes and other strikes you can call in… get rid of those… or should i go play SoF2 again? wich is still good.. nice game modes go look into those games no DRM or whatever just honest pvp game and loads of fun doing it. sorry guys for being so offtopic.. but i couldnt put any reaction in that bfbc2 review. again sorry… till next time dont forget to get those 2 old titels out.

Only a 7? I woulda guessed an 8 but a 7′s fair. Loving this game ALOT more than i thought i would considering i never got into TF2, but after playing this im thinking of giving it a chance. Id give it an 8.5 some more maps, character designs and game modes would made this a home run for me. Game needs a bit of balancing on the supports firebases though.
This game is a cross between TF2, Global Agenda and Dota. For those that don’t know what dota is it’s Defense of the Ancients, a Warcraft 3 Custom map. Crossfire = Dota. In any case this game looks awesome and I wish it was for the PC, I would buy it in a heart beat.
Close but dota has 95? heros lol and is extremally balanced…If you havnt played dota yet go play it
plus valve is making a dota stand alone AJ get on that review when it comes out

not trying to bag on it or anything (actually looks kind of fun, though alas they probably won’t bring it to the PC), but come on stop sugar coating it.
Well to be fair GTA Vice city is inspired by the Scarface movie. So it can be said that GTA is the ripoff not the other way around.

Before I saw this review was up, I took a chance on Monday Night Combat. I gotta say I am enjoying it, but I feel the special melee moves are cheap at times. That personal gripe aside, I like this game for what it is.
I never thought it was a CLONE of TF2 but Joe is right about the inspiration thing. It also borrows a lot from DOTA. I thought the trailers and the gameplay looks like loads of fun BUT what really interested me in the game was the humor present in the trailer…and I am kind of disappoint to hear that’s not in the game…
I just hope for everyone who buys it that it will have amazing support and addons….but it’s on Xbox so you will prolly have to pay for everything new in the game.

I once played crossfire as assault and the other team had at least 4 assassines. So frustrating. Although the assault class is pretty good against assasines. If they don’t manage to backstab you, their attack leaves just enough health for you to charge and instantely kill them. Once I had the B attack leveled up and learned to check my back I had great fun taking those kittens out.
The game looks a lot like TF2 and the classes are very similar but the game modes, 3rd person perspective and more/regenerating health make a big difference. It does not play like TF2 at all.
It’s fun but sometimes not strategic enough for me, because few people use the mic and the maps are big enough for you to spread out and rarely fight alongside your team mates. I hope this will change when people have figured out the classes and game modes in a couple of days or weeks.
Anyone who ever says that Gears of War is better than TF2 needs to have their head shoved in a meat grinder. I never got into TF2 much, but it’s a far better game than that 7th grade gruntfest. Gears of War controls like ass, looks like ass, sounds like ass, plays like ass, and makes you look like an ass. And most people that play it act like an ass.
Monday Night Combat is CERTAINLY better than that pile of…well, ass.
And the first person to even MENTION Modern Warfare 2 is going to get a nail bat shoved down their throat.
Going to have to disagree with that Wayward. Different folks enjoy different strokes. I personally enjoyed Gears of War more than TF2. Does that make it a better game overall? No, but I thought it was. You obviously did not, and I hold nothing against you for that, its your own opinion.
However, your opinion does not control the world, and should not dictate everyone else’s game of choice. So what if some folks enjoy Modern Warfare 2 more than TF2. It’s their money, and their enjoyment, not yours.
These threats of violence against anyone who should dare enjoy a game that you don’t like are just silly.
I say the biggest disappointment for the Gears of War franchise is the lag. The host getting an advantage over others is pretty upsetting. Especially since it only has 10 people in the game and not as much going on like most other shooters. Paying for Live and having players act as a server makes no sense, I shouldn’t be paying for both. That money should be going to dedicated servers, they made over 165 million last year on subscription fees alone. Bah! Humbug!

What does it matter really, people have different opinions about it. People have a right to their opinions and if you’re trying to convince people that TF2 is better than gears of war then don’t be an ass who rants about it. Actually give good reasons when comparing the two like joe does.

Commander Joe, Sir. As a soldier of the Angry Army, I must respectfully disagree. As many a gaming news site has said, it is the third person love child of Team Fortress 2 and Smash TV. *slapped* Thank you sir. I needed that. But I do agree with your opinion on military shooters and their instant dying. But I do suppose that there arent any IDLERS on Monday Night Combat. Idlers are one of the only things about TF2 that I hate. Or any bitching over weapons and hats. Sir.
See, this is something I really don’t get about some players. Why hate idlers? What do they do to affect you experience of the game?
Nothing at all. They sit in a server out of the way idling while you get to go on and play the game. For the most part, idlers just idle when they’re away to bed or off out somewhere anyways. A lot of problems have come about with the TF2 community from people outright hating idlers for no reason what so ever (there is no valid reason), this just breaks up the community and then leaves Valve having to intervene which just makes more arguments occur over it.
Idling is basically pointless now anyway. The drop system was changed and you get item caps now so it’s only done by people who don’t bother keeping up to date with what’s happening in the game.
Let the idling topic die. There’s no need to announce your dislike of them in relation to this game.
Pretty fun, dominated as the Sniper class.

A lot of people are enjoying this. I found this game decent but very flawed. Some of the classes are unbalanced which ruins the feel of the game for me. The fact that an Assassin can cloak at will and do an animation from behind which is a one hit kill or from the front which leaves you at near death – while cloaked was a bad move. In fact, there shouldn’t even be that animation from the front.
I didn’t really feel that the Medic had much use in combat as healing team mates is very slow. Good out of combat and great that you can heal buildings though. I like how they took the Medic being able to injure enemies from the healing slot from TFC which is a good thing, I’ve been wanting that for ages and it is great for catching enemies off guard with.
The game shows promise but it does need some balancing tweaks, much much better levels(the ones so far do I suppose but I think these devs are capable of creating bigger and nicer looking levels) and a few bug fixes(like the one where you occasionally fall through the floor – uncommon but is there).
You really can’t blame people for thinking it’s a rip off of TF2, it takes so many things from it with some of the class weapons and abilities, class looks, graphical style and the fact that the company itself is named Uber Entertainment. Also a similar theme in trying Meet the Team videos….except they tried a little too hard and ruined good opportunity to make a great joke(the bit where he ran out of ammo was great but got killed by the advert in my opinion). Just saying, it’s a bit different from TF2 but the similarities are there – like in HAVE Online, looks similar in a few ways and has similar weapons but plays differently.
I wouldn’t call this the best shooter or 3rd person shooter on the Xbox 360. Team Fortress 2 (well it’s really nothing more than the TF2 beta) is on the 360 in the Orange Box and plays much better. TF2 also has more charm from what I found. Gears and a good few others third person shooters still beat it.
I don’t think Monday Night Combat is a bad game, it just has some flaws which put it just behind competition. I’d like to see them fix them through updates, the developers certainly seem motivated – is definitely a game to keep an eye on it’s progress.
Oh and about the levels needing improved: I felt that the maps were a bit repetitive in the game modes and map design. The theme might be a competition with lots of spectators but that shouldn’t prevent the developers from mixing up the levels and adding more modes. I’d like for some desert, snow and built up levels. Capture the flag, control points and some King of the hill would be nice as well. Stick a few cameras in areas of the maps and there’s your way of keeping the games overall theme going with the audience watching from their TVs. Basically, throw in some water and more variety, do a few tweaks and you’ve got yourself one of the top 3rd person shooters on Xbox Live.

The reason people call it a TF2 rip is because it tries WAY too hard to be funny, uses the “Meet The Class” monicur, and has very similar class structure. Seems pretty fun, but I can imagine if there’s voice acting it would be grating.
Two teams that consist of different characters with different set of skills that you can upgrade trying to destroy enemy base by pushing wave of computer controlled units?! ITS A FIRST DOTA LIKE GAME ON A CONSOLE! (or MOBA if you prefer that name) I know that with simple map ,less class and building turrets its more similar to Demigod but still as huge fun of dota clone (Hon) i hope more game like it will come on consoles.
Icefrog is now working with Valve and I think he sold the rights to the name Dota to them. The prospect of Valve coming up with a Dota game gives me nerd chills.
Football? Pfft. If THIS was on TV I would watch it religiously.

I jumped on this title as soon as I had gotten home yesterday. I enjoy this game quite a bit, and with the 6 different classes, it will give you extra hours of fun just trying them out and seeing what everyone has to offer. I do wish there were more game modes, but I’m taking what I am getting and not feeling bad about it. And for just a little humor as i’ve been jumping around on reviews, Uber is making Spike Games look clear out pathetic. If “getting what I pay for” for $10 with Deadliest Warrior, then you get more than your money’s worth with Monday Night Combat.
This actually looks pretty kick ass, I may get it next time I get some points, I also like to support new developers who actually show promise.
