Civilization V Review
Short Version: Civilization V is like crack cocaine for Empire Building Fans. The “Just One More Turn” mentatity took a strong hold over me and I ended up having a 16-hour long session. All of the Improvements to the Interface, the streamlining to the micromanagement, and the new improved combat mechanics make this game far more accessible than its predecessors. If you’re a fan of Boardgames this is a must-buy!
What you’ll Like:
• Did I mention this game was Addicting? The stories build themselves!
• The Interface is very easy to understand with multiple views (global & city tile), feels like a great board game!
• New Hexes and Combat Systems add both depth and fun back into a dry formula.
• Amazing Soundtrack that never gets old.
• Best Part: When you crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their women!
What you’ll Hate:
• Diplomacy A.I. is a little weak.
• Online Multiplayer feels incomplete and is much less of an experience without unit combat animations.
• Worst Part: On ocassion with a bad build, poor setup or mismanagement games can drag on and become borefests – its best to know when one is developing an bail to create a fresh game.
Final Verdict:
8/10
Excellent!

Joe you’ve more than likely been inundated with theses kinds of messages before, but will you be looking at Gods & Kings and eventually Brave New World? Also, more importantly, what’s your opinion on what has been released about Brave New World?
I got the game about two months ago, there I had some awesome guy teach me his starategys and how to basically play, as I never played a Civ game before. We played a short 3 or 2 hour game together and when we were done I was extremely excited to do Single player where I dominated the world as the Romans. (I was fighting the Huns at one point and a City state actually took his capital, it was hilarious!) Now I’m playing the Civs people put on the Community workshop, and all I can say it like 8/10 or 8.5/10, when I start it and by the time I look at the clock its been two or three hours. Like you stated I don’t like the animation was removed in multiplayer, the diplomatic is kind of annoying as basically everyone gets pissed at me if I attack ONE city, but whatever if they have a problem they can face my army. Also I HATE how you can build boats and leave them in you’re city, I lost like 2 cannons because the AI left the boat in the city and used it as his major defense which was annoying as hell! But basically this game was amazing and fun and I’m still playing!
Hi joe, i agree the game is awesome, i’ve been a fan of the serie since the first one, I do agree with your rating but personally I would have put a score of 7/10 for one simple reason: Steam connection, like you said the multi-player is a bit gimpy and the game is great as a single player game, but because of steam you need to be connected to play and it’s seriously a huge drawback because you cannot play on a 30 hour bus ride or on the plane and such.
You can play Single player offline. I did on a ferry boat with no WIFI, or internet cord. All you need to do is click offline, then click the game you want and play.
I’ve always liked the Civ games, but the diplomacy has always been weak. I was hoping they would improve upon it by now, but I guess not. That being said, I will definitely buy this game soon.
Civilization 5 is ABSOLUETLY “The Best” strategy board games of all time !
Civilization IV blew my balls.
Over all, this game seems very similar, in which case, I’m very confused as to why it got an 8.
If it’s really as boring of an experience as the one I had with the tutorial, then it should be like at least a 6 at most. If there’s fans of that sorta thing, then WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS?!
The only thing I miss in this game are advisors from Civ III.
Joe you know Alexander The Great was actually gay right?
Teehee. And he also drunk himself to death when he grew ‘bored’ of conquering. I think it’s because he felt his whole life was a disaster (probalby hints that he was ashamed of his homosexuality, who knows).
And also ashamed of only being capable of killing people, but yeah, I’d be depressed about that too.
I need help! I downloaded the game on my computer and I love the game but it is so hard to enjoy when the game causes the computer to lag and turns take forever to load. Someone tell me how to speed this thing up or is the turns suppose to take a long time to load.
Deathsoulwolfe, try downloading Bandicam. Its recording software, but it allows you to set fps limitations to make it run smoother. Also set graphics and resolution to lower. I had overheating issues myself, but now it works fine.
I don’t think you should call it ‘overheating issues’ unless it specifically overheats the hardware of your computer, just saying. =/
