Eh, what did you expect? Yeah, it’s pretty sad that this is happening, but like you said, I’m probably gonna see them…mainly because the prequels aren’t THAT bad in my honest opinion. Though the complete reversal of film ideals (“a special effect with no story is boring by itself” to “I think there was only one set where there was no blue screen”) is disturbing.
Also, am I the only one who doesn’t like Avatar being the example of the new generation of 3D? Because I much prefer what Coraline did. I didn’t notice much difference in Avatar, to be perfectly honest.
I have never seen anything in 3d and I’m not going to start now I just know it will give me a migraine
I have the 3 original Starwars movies on VHS from when they were advertised on TV as “one last chance to own them then they are gone forever” lol yeah right Lucas
I have two problems with this:
1 – I wouldn’t watch the prequels FOR FREE in 2D… why would I watch them for $15 in 3D?
and the biggy:
2 – NONE OF THESE WERE SHOT IN 3D! The reason movies like Avatar work is because they’re shot from start to finish on digital cameras designed for 3D. All the scenes are blocked and composed for viewing in three dimensions, so when you watch them in 3D it can be an immersive experience. Post-Production 3D (the kind where they use digital trickery to make a movie that was shot in 2D look like it’s 3D) never works. Ever. It looks like shit. And now Lucas wants to go back and fake the 3D in all the movies. Sure, since the prequels were 99% CGI, he might be able to make those work, but those movies SUCKED! When he actually gets around to his ruined original trilogy movies, it’ll all be faked 3D images.
Someone seriously needs to find Lucas and just bitchslap the hell outta him until he comes to his senses. The only good thing to come out of the Star Wars franchise is when Lucas takes himself out of the equation and lets OTHER PEOPLE take his universe in their own direction.
I find this whole 3D thing to be really stupid, and for people out there who tries to defend this by saying that Avatar was amazing in 3D, yes it was, but this is not going to be like Avatar, at all. Cameron used 3D cameras and created new 3D techniques which wasn’t avaible before Avatar, but the problem is that the Star Wars movies won’ utilize all these 3D aspects which made Avatar so good, because there were no 3D camera used to film the Star Wars movies.
Remember we are talking about an already released movies here, the only way you can add 3D to the Star Wars movies is by creating a layer on top of the existing movie which will make it look 3D, but this is still 2D so in reality it will be like you looked out of a window. The special effects might be possible to make more 3D like but that is because they can take them into the computer again and give the right depth.
In the end George Lucas is and will always be a butcher not a film maker.

The point of 3D is to put the man into the movie.And i dont seriously think,that old effects are going to look good.So Lukas is going to have to re-make the 4,5,6 in order to make the 3d look good.This is going to be a fail.So new 4,5,6 movies is a fail,and 3D onoriginal 4,5,6 is going to be a fail as well.
Stop your “3D” rants Joe, it’s embarrassing. This StarWars thing is stupid, but stop acting like it doesn’t work, pointing out that it doesn’t work for everyone that’s okay. For my eyes however the “3D” works perfectly. Avatar was really impressive, The Last Airbender(which I regrettably saw) looked okay in “3D”, but it didn’t look as impressive at all, I guess that’s what the SW films will be like. Non of these films had stuff flying out of the screen though, it’s all about depth and that only makes it seem more real.
Is it different in USA? Is it all just gimmicky 3D with stuff flying out?
In my country you usually have the option to see it with depth or not, so it’s not a problem. I wouldn’t mind of this become the default for all movies, if they are made with depth though, not as an aferthought.
These StarWars films are en afterthought so I’m not going to get excited, I will probably see at least one of the original films, but apparently that’s years form now so who knows what I will do.
For me, the saddest thing about the release of Star Wars movies in 3D is that some people are actually going pay for the tickets and see the movies

when i say this i think i can speak for a lot of people. GEORGE LUCAS CAN GO FUCK HIMSELF!!!!!!! 3d gives me migraines, but even if it didn’t i still wouldn’t go see this. y? cos both me and my fiancé own the original trilogy box-sets which he already fucked up by putting that talentless git at the end as a ghost. also we have twin babies on the way, so y the hell would i pay funny money to see films i either hate(prequels) or ones i already own. when i could spend that money on more important things. i’m finding more and more each day that the movie industry i is finding more and more ways to piss me off.
You summed up my feelings about this perfectly, Joe. Oh. My. God. Will they ever stop with the 3D? Granted, 3D doesn’t even work for me most of the time, but when it does, I still fail to see the appeal of it. I am 100% behind the snippet from the old George Lucas interview / commentary. Special effects are supposed to add to the movie, not be the entire movie.
And don’t even get me started on the prequels to Star Wars. To me, they’re like the Matrix Sequels. They do not exist. They were never made. I did see the Phantom Menace on the big screen, but that was the last time I went to the cinema for star wars. The franchise died that day for me.
Bioware does a good job with the Old Republic games, that’s something I can get behind. But should there ever be more star wars movies, unless all the reviewers are in accord that they kick ass, I’m not going to see them.
And there is no way in hell I’ll go see Jar Jar Binks in 3D. Not even if it was free. You couldn’t pay me to do that. Well, okay… you could pay me to see it, but you’d have to do better than free tickets.

The only thing that’s keeping Star Wars alive are a few kids who are watching the cartoon and discovering it the first time and the videogames. As far as I’m concerned Star Wars “the motion picture phenomen” is dead. And bringing it back to the theaters with a poor gimmick like that makes it only more miserable in my mind, a bit like Michael Jackson.
So, with Case: west announced, Wolverine anime looking as it is, and DMC being utterly destroyed by NT, THIS is the topic most deserving a rant video? I thought ruining Star wars became a daily routine after the clone wars milking, this is nothing new realy. I am dissapointed. And I still wait on your stance on the huge hate generated by the DMC trailer, you cant simply ignore that.

I wish I could say that I will be apart of the droves that go to this horrible regurtitation of a once epic story from my childhood, but sadly I have given up on anything Star Wars that George Lucas has touched in the naughty places. I could get behind any project with the Old Republic because it moves on from the skywalkers and solos ( or back if you go by timeline) and gives a different view of Star Wars Universe. Though I would hate it if those movies were made in 3D and only see it in a 2D verison.
I let myself fall for the trap too many times this year to where I may never see another 3D movie again without high praise from friends I trust. Heavy CGI movies with 3D is just fake realism on top of a fake diminison that my mind is instantly pulled out of story and all I end up doing is looking at gimicks that are flying at my face trying to convince me that this was worth my extra 4 dollars.
Anyways If I hear about a local shooting spree at a local theatre I assume Joe gave in and saw Star Wars Ep 1 in 3D. I thinking about making a drinking game where for every shitty 3D movie you have seen you have to take a shot.
Sadly I would be drunk by the time I finished my list.

With Star Wars I had hopes that only the original 3 movies would be released, not the prequals, but well.. money talks you know =/ And no, I’ll probably won’t watch the prequals, but as you said, even I will probably watch the original 3 in 3-d, because they are Star Wars

this sucks, because you are right. the prequel might not be very high grossing, but original trilogy is going to make a bajillion dollars just because it is star wars. We will watch it and we will like it simply because he tells us to like it. He’s just trying to take back the highest grossing movie crown back from James Cameron and he knows exactly how to do it. And to think that all that money could be used to buy more video games. Or pay to see original movies, tho in 2017 we’ll most likely get a should have been straight to video Buried 3, Avatar 2, and Saw 3d 7: The Final Chapter part 3.
Sometimes I wish our robot overlords or zombie apocalypse would hurry up and come to destroy our horrible movie making process. Maybe they will have a few original ideas for us.

My first star wars was Phantom Menace, and to this day it stands as my most memorable movie going experience. Admittedly i was a lot younger so the racial stereotype and the lukewarm acting didn’t bother me. HOWEVER i refuse to pay for this shit…. They’re good movies but most film makers, after making a succesful film, make new ones… They don’t repackage stuff from 30 years ago and charge you $15 for a ticket!

I was pretty pissed when I heard about that, but welcome to Hollywood, land of nostalgia, and re-hashing our childhoods into something they weren’t.
But sadly, yes, we will all end up seeing these films just because it’s Star Wars.
I – No, I won’t see that again
II – Pass, its not terrible but doesn’t merit a 3D price ticket
III – The space battle at the beginning is pretty sweet, might see this one
IV – The trench run will be cool, this I’ll see if the 3D is actually good, 3 films will have proven if its good or not
V – THE ASTEROIDS! This is the only one absolutely worth seeing
VI – Depending again on whether 3D is actually any good, we’ll see
They really gonna insane with this 3D. 3D is good but how many movies out there are better in 3D? I have all Star Wars Films on DVD, if iam gonna see it in 3D i only see the old ones. The new Star Wars Films arent that good. George Lucas should remeber the days when he create the first Star Wars Movies. They are classik!!! Now he conzentrate on the special effects.
3D exist for two reasons.
1. I´ts expensive, so the director gets more money for it.
2. Movie pirates cant film a 3d movie in Cinema.

That’s exactly my reaction to 3d movies! I hate ‘em! It’s probably because I am one the minority and I CAN’T SEE 3D!!! The glasses just make it unblurry but after that it’s just a normal movie to me…
I got so pissed when I heard that Toy Story 3 is only gonna play in 3d in the theaters around here… I’m one of those who grew up with Toy Story so it was a must see! So Basically I was watching a normal movie, with annoying glasses… AND I had to pay more just so I could get a headache from those glasses…
I’m absolutely with Joe on this one; 3D will NOT last! Atleast it shouldn’t… If all the TVs are going to be 3d and shit, I’m gonna get some sort of handicap card which allows me to get everything for a reduced price…
I actually accidently went to see TS3 in 3D and boy did I regret not checking my ticket twice. It totally made noooo impact seeing it in 3D vs. 2D, and didn’t add anything to the integrity of the movie.
I also hope that 3D will eventually die…total bs.
