one game sorry key baord messes up all the time
Hey, Joe!
The Final episode is out! We’re waiting for the full review!
In regards to your view on movie license games, I really enjoyed the LOTR games on PS2 as well.
99% of them still suck due to budget and time constraints set on by the movie publishers who has no clue how a game should be.
Another amazing review by Joe!
Telltale Games has more or less pioneered episodic content so they can get user feedback. So if you think the first episode is alright, the next one is going to be better, or at least TTG will try to make it better.
Also, sometimes they hold contests so actual user content makes it inside some of their games somehow.
ya, well episodic content does allow feedback but the prime reason it exists is to cos us more $$$ by buying a bunch of games instead of one. so it’s more of an upgraded version of the ‘sequel

I like how professional a lot of these review videos are. Some times joe goes off the deep end, but useally he keeps profeesional. Keep it up Joe, your anger is my enjoyment.
Nice review, but I must point out the there is no “K” sound in ESPECIALLY. It’s not ECSPECIALLY…just sayin.
What about Goldeneye? Star Wars: Battlefront? Scott Pilgrim?
Sound fail @ 8:30
Since you’re not familiar with Telltale, I’ve got good news! I’ve played they’re past episodic games and they usually do exactly what you want them to. As the games go on the puzzles get more challenging, the story builds, and no, the games aren’t done yet, we’re getting them as they come out. On top of that Telltale loves to listen to feedback and put in subtle improvements as the episodes go on. They’re pretty much the only episodic content developer I really trust. We’re in good hands here!
Compare to the NES, SNES, and Genesis versions. Lol.
The Angry Video Game Nerd did two episodes containing BttF content.

Uhh… and?
There are actually good movie games, theres some like Spider-Man 2 for gamecube and goldeneye 007 for the N64
You guys are taking the whole “no good movie license games” thing a little to far. It was a hyperbole and the fact that you can point out a good number of movie licensed games doesn’t take away from the fact that the majority of movie licensed games are shit.
I also would say that the Star Wars games arn’t movie liscensed games anymore, sure they technically are, but they exist only in the Star Wars universe and are now considered just regular games now, and not on par with games like Iron Man or Ratouille.
Most movie liscenced games suck, and very very few are decent, it is very rare for the games to be good.
What comes to mind for me as a good movie license is Blade Runner made by Westwood Studios in 1997. It was just as good as any current BioWare story driven game. The recent Ghostbusters game was pretty good too.
I still own that game on the orginal discs. You sir, earn a thumbs up for knowing about a classic =)
This game was amazing when I played it, I can’t wait for the other 4 Episodes ^_^
Telltale games are like Italian supercars, not that well equipped (graphics) but hell lot of fun, and crafted with heart and passion
It’s a point and click game? that’s so lame. I was looking forward to this too.
My comment is gone lolz. Sorry if I dont enjoy point and click games people.
Maybe people are thumbing you down because you’re not even giving it a chance.
of course the game is gonna be simplistic cause of the older fans of the game.. its not only for gaemrz
Plus, I think the whole episodes thing is going to turn out like Half Life 2. Gabe Newell didn’t release Episode 3. I think the same goes with Back To The Future.
What? Telltale have ALWAYS operated on a monthly schedule for episodes (occasionally stretching it to two months for the finalé) and don’t just toss projects to the wayside mid-series; especially when customers have already paid for the finished product.
Unless you’re joking (in which case I apologize), get your facts straight.
agree with you joe, most of movie licence game suck. but Tell A Tale made an incredible job to revive Sam and Max, made an awesome 5th monkey island, and what about the excellent Wallace and Gromitt aventure game ? and i was really impatient to play Back To The Future game, i m not dispapointed : 7/10
Hey joe!
Very good game review!… again. But you said about movie licensed games that they are never good… in most case I agree with you… but star war force unleashed is a very good game… well it will be when i get my PC upgraded! Keep up the good work!!
PS you are far better than any other reviewer and am taking your adive other shogun 2 total war when it comes out… i don’t trust them saying the AI will be right
Angry Joe will back to the future game Episode 2 3 4 and 5 be free on steam becuse i got episode 1 in steam and i do not no if episode 2 3 4 and 5 will be free are not
If you paid the £15 or so for the series, then you’ve already bought all the episodes, and will get them as they come. If you got Episode 1 free through a code or offer then you’ve only got that one.
Let’s see here. Good movie licensed games:
Quantum of Solace
Goldeneye
007 Blood Stone
Ghostbusters
Back to the Future {by Telltale, not LJN}
Etc. Etc. Etc.
Ya know…imagine a Super Mario Bros. game, that was based on Super Mario Bros.: The Movie? Now that would be messed up!
there is no blood stone film
I’d have to say most Bond movie based games are the exception to the rule. I even remeber fondly playing the James Bond 007 (1997) Game Boy game.
i liked this game, but i wish there was a more free roam with the delorean, like that mod for vice city, just more finished with time eras and whatnot. but this game is good enough i guess
You know you can get the first episode for free. http://www.telltalegames.com/bttfoffer
Hope the link works.
Small nitpicks here, Joe. You had some gripes with this game that TellTale has been doing for years now and it’s been the way of things for them. The way you worded some questioning of the the Developer and why they did certain things suggested it was new to you so if you meant it as “just so those who aren’t familiar know” it didn’t come off that way and I apologize now.
“why does it have to be episodic?”
Adventure gaming has not been mainstream appeal for years, and those adventure gamers of us left that still play them have a hard time sometimes finding quality Adventure Games. TellTale has been the best at quality Adventure games since they started remaking the Sam & Max games.
I’ve always assumed based on the niche market, that this was why it is episodic. This way they can make the game, have people pay for it (showing they like it) and they can continue development while people play it. It seems a bit out of place maybe now that telltale has become bigger, but when they started they had no way of knowing if they would make anything on their development and it so far has paid off for them doing it this way.
I personally don’t mind the episodic delivery of TellTales games. They’re the most successful with it so far and the quality of their games at this point, to me, shows that. It seems to me, they continue with the episodic delivery because that’s been their business model from close to the beginning (they originally made CSI licensed games, a poker game, and Bone which I think maybe Bone was when they started episodic stuff).
“The controls are obviously made to be more in tune with the console ports.”
Ya, this is something they started doing with Wallace and Gromit and The Tales of Monkey Island. I got used to it, but ya it is a little weird. All I wanted to say about it was this is something they’ve been doing for awhile, and it’s actually better then it was before so they’re at least improving on it if nothing else. I do agree, though, it still feels weird.
“…No good licensed games.”
There’s another post that lists several, but that’s not true. There is good movie licensed games out there, Joe.
If you haven’t played Chronicles of Riddick escape from butcher Bay, you need to play it. Best Movie Licensed game… ever. Some will also say this about Golden Eye (which wasn’t my thing as I was playing PC games and the controls in relation we’re awful but people that grew up with console I know why they love it).
So, anyway, that’s just not true Joe. This saying is more correct if you had said game licensed movies. Then yes, there is no movie that correctly converts a game to a movie. That’s also an unnecessary thing to do in my humble opinion.
Wow, anyway I said too much. Loved that you brought back the scientist character, i find him funny. I love your reviews, but I just had to get that stuff off my chest. Now that I’ve been long winded I’ll shut up =P
Hey Joe!
Are you forgetting about all the great james bond games like goldeneye?
Name one thing worse than movie-licensed games:
Game-licensed movies.
Seriously, I’d rather play Iron Man 2 than watch the Resident Evil movies. At least the game only lasts for two hours.
Nice Amazon Kindle, and the new ghostbusters game is not that bad for a movie game.
Wolverine: Origins the game was above average, too if you ask me…..not really good but much better than most. If they make a sequel and expand on the good concept it might become a great game….
They complain they can’t prevent Doc from getting caught by the police cuz it would create a paradox where Marty would never know (in 1986) that he needs to get back in time.
What about the time paradox that is created when Doc is rescued, thus preventing the news about his death reach 1986′s Marty?
Yeaaaaah…
In a certain scene… the teen doc explains he never had interest in science.
How come?
In the third movie he explains that he read Jules Verne when he was a pre-teen which made him start loving science.
Man…
This game is total shit, who makes a linear game type when all i want to do is drive that car and fuck around.
This comment is satirical, right?
…Right?
If you actually play the game, you’d know the answers to these. Or atleast come back and say that those were satirical. I hope that’s what happens anyway.
This was the only AngryJoe review that I could not agree with… the reasons are the ones I already stated.
Played it.
Trashed it.
Don’t believe? Why should I care?
Have fun
I would say that the movie license rule doesn’t apply here because this game came out later than the movie. I think the movie license rule only really applies to games that come out at the same time as the movie does. It may share the license of the franchise but it doesn’t tell the story of the movie. I think in the Star Wars games example, you’ll find that most of the Star Wars games that don’t suck are the ones that tell a completely different story from the movie itself. I remember the one game I really liked was Star Wars Republic Commando. That game was fun as hell back in the day and I remember it being cool because it told a completely different tied-in story from the soldiers perspective which was unique and interesting.
I wouldn’t say the movie license rule applies here…
It’s usually Movie Tie-ins that are terrible, you know the games that are rushed to be released in time with the film. A recent example being that terrible harry potter game.
Games that use an existing movie license and expand on that after it’s release have a history of being good.Look at the plethora of Star Wars games, i’d say 80% of those are pretty damn good. Goldeneye for Wii was a good game, it tears the movie to shreds but was still a fun experience. And then theres this year’s AvP which was miles better than the shitty movies….
On this Game itself though it looks kinda disappointing. Graphically it looks about 10 years old, and point and click games just don’t entertain me like they used to..
Good review, it probably deserved a slightly higher score though.
Just so you know, Telltale games have always come episodically, and it’s partly because the stories themselves split nicely into 5/6 parts, and because they certainly don’t have the whole series finished ahead of time. They’re a very small developer and usually only finish each episode the day before it’s released.
Hope you enjoy the series and I hope more people get into Telltale’s work because of it. They certainly deserve recognition.
You do a surprisingly good Jerry Lewis impression, Joe. Especially considering that it’s in such contrast to Angry Joe!
i sensed a little spoony in there
Great review, as always, Joe. This game looks pretty cool
dam I lost the game
well in all seriousness you said there will never be a good movie licensed game umm…
goldeneye
chronicles of riddick
spiderman 2
a whole bunch of star wars games
just to name a few
I’d also like to add, that while not an amazing game the Wolverine Origins game was much better than the movie in my opinion, and I actually rather enjoyed going through the whole thing.
I’d like to add Ghostbusters to that list. Thats alot of Joes fading out of time lol. It’s like the farther the game is from the movie’s release, the better it is.
King kong
X-men Wolverine or
The thing: decent game.
also quite many of Capcom older disney games, aladin e.tc
Just to name some more
TTG have done a great job with Sam & Max and its on session 3 and loved all of them. If this uses the same great style with the feel of the movie i well bey at least 5 sessions.
What’s wrong with ESRB?
I know, I’m being really picky, but the word “shit”. deserves a E10+ or a T rating. NOT M, because it’s not that violent.
ummm i have checked on steam, and it is teen rated. were you looking at the right esrb for the game?
I don’t know why but my other post disappeared, so i’ll try once more.
I think he’s referring to the beginning of the review when it shows the game it says the ESRB is E for everyone. Time stamp is 1:50 if your curious to see. I thought that was weird too. I know the line is directly out of the movie, but still, I wouldn’t think that as something that would get you an E if even said only once.
Greatest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Hah, awesome. Great review.
