Wow, Totally unprofessional. I lost respect for Geoff.
I’m not surprised at the way companies of all types market their products. They don’t market based on what the consumer wants.. they market what they think the consumer should want. It’s in all phases of life these days. Reality TV – controlled.. Sports – controlled.. Advertising and Marketing – controlled.. Mainstream Media – HEAVILY CONTROLLED. It’s all set to push society in the direction they want us to go in. It’s no longer about creating better products or services for the consumer. It’s about molding the consumer for their products.
I love Angry Joe I first started to love when I saw the red dead redemption will kick your ass video. Geoff was acting like a total jerk and joe was right he was also insulting us the hardcore gamers who buy the games and the ones who watch the show on tv fuck you Geoff

Joe has never hidden the facts that he is no journalist and as a matter of fact that is why most of us trust and like his reviews; he is telling things like a buddy would, without grandiose ideas or journalitic goals. I have done interviews and regadless of Joe´s lack or actual preparation (he should have researched the questions he was posing first) the fact of the matter is that the complete lck of respect that that douchebag gave him was sickening to watch. Just look at his body language never looking hm in the eye, gazing arround…he knew that Joe was no journalist and intead of making it easy and playing along he was more than ready to both shame Joe and make him look like the amateur he is. Here in Mexico we have a group of comedians who do interviews with politicians, vedettes and all sorts of hi profile people and all of the do these wacky interviews and most of the guys play along and it great for everybody. The fact of the matter is that the VGAs are a joke which amounts to a bunch of circlejerking and those awards mean SHIT. Hell I think Joe would be served best by making his own awards, and reviewing a few more indie titles to booth
It is undeniable that Joe was unprepared for the environment that would face, but is not entirely his fault, he is not to blame for not having experience with the dynamics of these events, this is something that takes time and practice.
But if on one hand Joe was inexperienced and honest (a fool, some would say), Geoff was what? Experiment? Certainly dishonest.
Admires me to see people arguing that Joe was wrong by the way the interview was done per be inexperienced. So what is the excuse for the lack of professionalism and ethics of Geoff? These people would be suggesting that this behavior is correct? That is that way that game journalism works? That the mandatory suck-ass behavior unavoidable? Prioritize the “jabá” instead of the community?
Every time I see someone commenting and suggesting therefore, gives more credence to joe’s criticism, and not just his.
Joe is my new God. Never knew what the hell VGA was and neither will I ever give a damn. The only platform from which i choose games has been The Angry Joe Show, and thats all I’ll ever need.

I highly doubt there’s a team of qualified individuals selecting the games nominated for the VGAs, because nobody in their right mind would nominate Metroid: Other M for best Wii game of 2010. Also, “Best Graphics” should be divided into two categories: “Best Graphics” and “Best Art Direction”.

Geoff Keighley has always seemed slippery, but this was embarrasing to watch. Noone should treat another person the way he treated you Joe. I just used my GT profile for the last time. Nobody fucks with our Joe. And regarding later interviews with Geoff: He ain´t worth it. Fuck him, fuck Spike and fuck VGA.
It wasn’t your fault for trying to be professional and calm Joe, he was trying to make you stupid….and he failed miserably. In the end he only made himself look like an even bigger douche than he already is[ which is saying a lot.] i’ve been watching your shows for a few months now and i have to say, your reviews are always spot on, i took your advice on Saint’s Row 2 and was very satisfied. Hey, i know i’m a bit late but was going through you’re older vids and it annoyed me so much I had to say something.
It just demonstrates that the VGAs are about the money that video games generate. The money from COD or BF or big titles from publishers like EA and Rockstar. It may sound strange but the VGAs aren’t for gamers, its for the suits and higher in the industry and you or any of the Blistered Thumbs shouldn’t bother with them.
I think it was always going to be difficult to deal with that jagoff no matter what the surroundings were because he lives in a shark bowl and if hes not quick off the mark with throwing people off guard, knowing when to be aggressive and when to be a sycophant he won’t have a job for very long. Hes not a gamer like the developers you talk to would be. Hes a money man and probably feels the same about dealing with dead hookers in his penthouse as he does about taking out the garbage.

This is the thing Joe, you review the games. Without worrying about advertising deals or the marketing. Its a real grass roots thing and thats why I come back constantly. Me and the guys buy our games based on what you say. (With a little wiggle room for our own tastes) For example I hate modern shooters and I shun MMOs but i want to hear an unbiased opinion on them. The good and the bad. You don’t gloss over the bad parts of generally accepted 9/10s like most of the others do. Gamers dont want a bunch of soundbite superfluous nonsense like “Exhilarating!” “Must buy game of the year!” because few to none exist and when I reckon they do thats only my opinion and others wouldn’t get it.
Keighley isn’t about games he’s about money. End of. I know what you do and its awesome but gaming isn’t a small thing anymore. Something you had in common with a complete stranger. Its gone mainstream and most modern players nowadays only have three games on their shelves, a modern shooter, an EA sports title and a rockstar game. Thats it. The VGAs are to gaming what the xfactor is to music. Don’t bother with them and keep it metal.

I think his deal was that he thought you were wasting his time maybe because your not ‘the big time’ or something and then with the no mmo, fighter categories and what not its because its mainstream. People dont care about that as much and that is just the way it is. Why is there a COD game every fucking year? or a Madden game every year? because thats what people like. With the mmos I doubt they will ever do that because its so saturated with WoW and Rift and all those there is too much and not to mention I doubt they’d put in any free mmos. i think you made the right assessment Joe. You were playing HIS game the whole time. He got you in a situation where he could knit pick your every word, not giving you a chance to establish a dialog.
and unfortunatley with the ultra compressed time you had, you were screwed from the start. Theres no way to even begin a conversation in 2 minutes. He turned those pages of questions you had into an ‘on the spot’ shakedown about MMO nominations.

great job joe, you maybe could have done better but it was an unfair situation and a difficult one that. I personally looked at the results and guest from the VGA’s and they don’t make much sense. And half of them we don’t like. i personally dislike my chemical romance. now i know that was last year and i voted this year but there still seems to be the lack of Pc gaming and what seems like a bit of a biais. as i commented on another video there is almost a representation of batman:arkam city for everything and the sam games reoccur again and again. the other thing is the review board is made up of Gamespot and IGN? Ok well I guess this may not count but as someone said someone got fired for not putting out a great review of a game. Well great job joe and don’t let people like geoff and the trolls get you down man. keep going man.
Don’t be so hard on yourself. You tried to be civilised and diplomatic with someone who turned out to be neither. You over-estimated someone and tried to take the interview to a higher level, and no-one should ever have to apologise for that.
Oh, and gaming press? That nasty little display was noted. Your websites and game ratings are ridiculed across the gaming community; the least you can do is pretend to be professional when someone tries to ask a valid question.
You did the right thing Joe, and i think you handled it better than i would in that situation. guys like this are just Wanna-be corporate Rockstars. No passion for the games or community, just Money and Promoting a product , in this case the Lame ass VGAs. it’s starting to really show that the Gaming industry can suffer from the same problems as Hollywood.

No offense, but I can’t help but notice that you BOTH began the interview with passive aggressive attitudes that escalated as the interview moved forward. HOWEVER, Geoff definitely should have given you his full attention, regardless of whether or not he liked how the interview was going, or the questions you were asking. He also should have apologized for not being able to give you a more complete interview. However, as someone pointed out, he did seem very busy, and not having enough time isn’t entirely his fault.
This is only the first interview I’ve seen done by you, but I feel like you could adopt a slightly more professional demeanor in interviews such as this. I think some people, such as Geoff are a little turned off by how casual your are, though perhaps this is your ‘angryjoe’ style. Geoff too should have been more professional.

You are being too unforgiving. If you noticed he was running around everywhere, he is clearly busy, needs to be doing things, you should have rescheduled (if possible). Sure they had bad planning, but they could have been behind schedule and didn’t have much time. Also your data was out of date and FF14 for MMO of the year, really? You can’t expect one guy to know every game that came out each year, especially one like FF14 which didn’t really have a proper release. And you hadn’t seen that years show, so the interview should’ve been scheduled for after the show (don’t know how that is controlled). Yes it sucks, and in regards to things like mountain dew and naked women, shows cost money and viewers. I don’t want to see it, but if your a regular not “hardcore” gamer or even casual who plays Halo or call of Duty once in awhile, why would I watch the VGAs if there was nothing for me really? Similar situation with the Oscars, no one watches it anymore except to see the final couple of awards. I agree that My Chemical Romance answer was retarded. And music game is not the same as best score. Everything being said, you can’t put this all on Geoff, he can’t have the explanation for everything.
The thing that really bothers me the most is that VGA show, just like gaming journalism in general, is really not about games at all. So, one should probably be aware of that when going into the arena with these suits. Basically, it’s hard to think of a good tactic in this situation. The best you can actually do is just brutally state your case and that’s it. There’s no real possibility for a conversation here. You’ve seen that. He had absolutely zero intention of talking seriously to you. That’s even more fucked up than giving you just two minutes. He just sabotages the conversation, that’s his only intention.
And the same industry sucking-up could evidently be seen in “game journalists” when he “answered” your question in that conference – cheering stupidly at him saying his shit. It’s a show for showing off industry and pumping marketing of it all. It has nothing to do with games and least of all with wanting to recognize quality games.
So i believe all you can do with events like these is just rip them apart, brutally. Stating your case, saying it like it is and that’s it.
I think it’s sad that all you can do is blame Geoff and not take a look at your own faults in this situation. He’s far from blameless but it’s obvious you were unprepared and didn’t do your research beforehand. Take some responsibility for that and stop blaming other people when you’re a part of the problem. While there’s obviously room for improvement in the VGAs, some of the comments you made are downright ignorant such as saying Best soundtrack is basically the same as Best music game. That’s kind of like saying a category for Best graphics is the same as a category for Best art direction. Grow up
Actually I think Joe meant that no other games were nominated for the soundtrack and other categories involving music, but the music games. I think he just didn’t clear it up well enough. And I watched the video and thought that Joe was far more right than you appeal him to be. You may as well do your thinking before blaming.

Whoa, i don’t know who that guy your interviewing is nor have i ever heard of him until this video. But he obviously doesn’t take you or your show seriously. He shows his disinterest constantly with his body language and coming back at you with insulting comments when he isn’t paying attention to the question to begin with.
In my opinion the reason he is coming after you is again because he isn’t taking you seriously. He has such a smug look on his face from the get go. He was fucking with you. I think you did a good job with your interview but he side lined you until the last possible minute ( well no intention of doing the interview from what you said ) and when he was forced to give you a interview he came at you with all his rehearsed a$$hole attitude.

Good point by the way about Felicia Day being there, silverbacksi; we all know ad least one celebrity that has lied to our face about various products and other media they are in some way associated with in order to help sell it. The most recent example for me is when Danny Mcbride said that Your Highness was going to be a great movie.
Over all Joe, your a good reviewer and passionate about these games and movies you review but you definitely should have went at Geoff with full Demon Joe status. I don’t think you did a bad job, I would have punched the guy if he looked at me with that smile. Man it makes me angry just watching this video i can feel his aura of “I’m better than you” coming off of him and god what a pompous attitude. He is one hundred percent trained to make people he feels threatened by look like they are unprepared and not worth his attention. He brought his A game by manipulating the time available for the interview and slamming you in a way he thought made you look bad.

This was really disappointing to see. Personally ,I looked up to Geoff for some time as a professional broadcaster . He really sets a high bar for us little guys trying to brake into the business. Actually y, a lot of the Videos I make and narrat is me trying to desperately to sound even half as professional as him.
When I saw him dissing Joe, I have to admit, he went down a few pegs on my list. I still respect the guy because I know how hard it is to do his job, but I haven’t been able to look at his videos or appreciate his work in the same way ever since.

Joe I will be honest, looking at this interview again I realise that you say being in the interview you have should have been tough and asked hard questions first, well maybe thats true, and you are also right that you were not in the right spot for a interview, but you only let your guard down when becoming angry and lost your cool after your little countdown. Because thats what he wanted you to do, this guy isnt a game developer that you normally talk to who are passionate about thier product and like having the hard questions asked, he is a buisness man, and in buisiness there is only your friends and your enemies, he saw you as a threat because he couldent control you like he can the press, because he owns the show they are all sheep to him, its the same with actors they go there and they have to play nice if they want to get more status. I mean why would felicia day be there doing vga interview in a show that she even says is flawd and makes no sence. all these people are sheep that have to join the flock if they want his status. but you being practically a member of the public, he thought he could just make you look like shit.
all in all you should have asked straight away about the interview you were promised first. then just acted more proffesional and relaxed, in the end if he acted the same way he would have still looked like a dick and you would have looked the pro and him the asshole we all know him to be.

This guy is one of the typical big wig game journalists.
Most of the time he has no clue what a game is about, and worst of all, he is on the payroll of the publishers, which in turn means heavily biased reviews.
