I think Tron was the best movie I ever saw in 3D. Got to see it when it was still in theaters and it was great, not movie of the year material but I walked out of the theater NOT feeling jipped.

LoL in Hungary they gave you your own 3D glases and you can take it home. After that you just bring it with you and you are done! Dont have to buy glasses anymore. It costs the 10-20% of the ticket. I thought in the USA the cinema’s are better…

Green Lantern better?! Have you seen that shit Joe? It’s going to make you scream, it might even be worse than the video game.

Yeah, and why is the theater giving you used 3D glasses? At my theater they always give new ones encased in plastic, and you place them in a recycle bin at the end of the show. What they’re doing at your theater sounds like a health hazard, eww.

I disagree with pretty much everything that you say about the movie Joe. I’d dare to give it a 9/10 on your scale!

3d fuckin sucks… seriously the so-called 3d we have nowadays i have seen in potugal in the expo 98 this was in 1998 and portugal is a country that the new technologies always come in last place…

And only nowadays they sell that old crap technology for a big price… come on 3d is good but just not nowadays, i don’t understand why they are still selling this old 3d crapt while there’s already a 3d tv that makes the 3d right on the screen, with no need 4 glasses…

Also even the nintendo 3d’s fuckin has 3d on the screen without the need 4 glasses even before a tv like that comes to the market, it’s so fuckin lame… bullshit

I will gladly buy 3d when we would not need glasses anymore…

WTF do you mean with “toned down >>the old English<<" The Norse mythology was in Scandinavia, not in England?! What you're saying doesn't make any sense at all!

The film might have English people acting as if they were the Norse gods, but still why speaking English?

It's like if people in China made a movie, about the Civil War where the President of the United states spoke in old Chinese!

I just saw the movie today. I saw it in 3D because I had to wait 3 hours for the normal version. Yes, the 3D was not that great but the movie was nice enough for me not to regret having spent money on it.

But Joe, this last part is for you and anyone else regarding the USED and DIRTY 3D glasses they give you at the theatre….
Is it only your local theatre that pull off this bullshit, or is it a nation-wide American phenomenon? Over here, in Québec (and surely all Canada) we always get SEALED and BRAND NEW 3D glasses that are put promply in recycling bins at the theatre’e exits.

    So, what’s up with that?

    PS:

i hear you . i hate 3d , i’d stil ahte it even if i had two perfect eyes (wich i dont) what i love is how the indsutries that be , seem to double standard , with product A they say accpeting alienating 20-30% of consumers is unacceptable .. however it is totallya ceptable with “3d” because that is what they are doing , NO glasses based 3d works for any one with vision worse than 20/30 , eye worse than those numbers and the trick just deosnt work , and some one with vision like me (30/150) FOOOOOORGET IT , IMAX , old school 3d , new shutter based 3d , dosn’t matter , if there are two images on the screen my eyes are gonna see two images , because the vision form one eye is so much better than the vison in my other eye. and about 30-35% of america’s population ahs worse than 20/30 vision , if youa re countign the whole world , it’s an even larger percentage than that .

i dont think it deserved a 6, the only reason you gave it a 6 was because you hate 3d, joe its not made for 3d so the 3d in the movie would be weak, you made your choice to see it in 3d, it deserved atleast 7.5 or 8.

Joe did mention the the only 2D showing for the film was too far away to get to in his review, so it wasn’t actually a “choice”. Since gas is more expensive than 3D tickets it would have been ridiculous for Joe to out of his way to see the 2D showing.

I saw this movie in 3D because it was the only option at the small theater I went too

the 1st thing I thought about was your Res Evil review and how…. Joe wouldn’t’ approve of this…lol…so I was kind of feeling down …but what really pissed me off is ALL of the Fucking previews were FILMED IN THREEE DDEEEE … nooooo

oh well I only went to the movie was because my gf wanted to see it

but the climax of the film for me was having to take a wicked shit during the last few scenes and feeling relieved to get out of the theater for 10 minutes

you can simply download the movies/shows whatever is being featured as 3D and charged crazy cash. I know that pirating is not the usual approach but it will keep you from spending money on useless shit and avoid using gross glasses like the ones you filmed!

just a suggestion. or wait till the money comes out for a rental.

Good review Joe. I agree with pretty much everything you said. What I don’t get is, where the hell are you seeing your 3D movies? My theatre isn’t exactly cutting edge but every time I see a 3D movie I get a FRESH pair of 3D glasses in a sealed package. I don’t like the fact that the 3D is pretty much pointless in this film like you said yet my theatre, like yours, had no option to see the film in 2D. At all. Because I was pissed at how much money I had to spend to see Thor with no other option, I theatre hopped into Fast 5. Which pretty much kicked Thor’s ass. I’d probably give Thor a 7 instead of a 6 since the 3D didn’t annoy me as much as it did Joe but I totally agree with the fight choreography being weak and shot too close up for it’s own good. They should’ve got the choreographer from the Lord Of The Rings movies to give us something worth seeing in a wide angle view. One thing though Joe, you shouldn’t tell people that the epilogue after the credits is useless. It’s not only a nod to Captain America, but it sets stuff up for next summer’s The Avengers as well (there’s more than enough info floating around reputable sources on the net to back up those claims).

If you haven’t seen Fast 5 yet Joe, check it out. It’s fucking BADASS. And it’s in glorious 2D. No $12 tickets options at all there buddy :D . I may see it again later this summer just so I can say I supported with my dollars. And it’s a lock for my Blu Ray collection.

And in my city only 3D is available. but at least our glasses are cleaned after every movie.:) You said at the end that green lantern and captain america will be better. I agree with Captain America but The Green Lantern? I thought it has a really really bad CGI. or is it just me? anyway good review:)

xP I like how even though the Canadian Dollar is strong we still have to pay $16-18 for 3D and $12-14 for regular. Meh XD i just can’t help but think of that when Joe talks about the money. Honestly though where did Conan find Prince Kael’thas Sunstrider to voice that parody xD! Reminded me of all the WoW Machinima with that voice for Kael’thas. Oh well at least I can look forward to Thor on DVD now without regretting not watching it on the big screen, ty Joe for the info.

P.S. Isn’t Jane a paramedic that Thor meets and falls for in The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? And doesn’t he just like protecting Midguard, and was banished because of not doing his duty to protect Odin during his sleep?

Thank you Joe, you perfectly articulated everything about how I felt about the movie. I could not have explained it better myself. I was with you up until you said don’t watch the ending. I can honestly say that scene alone made it worth the money spent for the movie (but I didn’t see it in 3D). By the credits of the movie the only thing that the movie had going for me was Loki (and yeah it was obvious he would betray Thor but I though he was the best part of the film). I was more excited about Captain American than this, I kept thinking about that movie while watching Thor. The 2 minute clip at the end ultimately had me excited for the Avengers movie. It hits you over the head with the fact that this movie was created with the sole intention of prepping movie-goers for the Avengers movie, and it annoyed me greatly, but that 2 minute scene did do it for me. What pissed me off was the “Thor will return in the Avengers movie!” Line at the end of the credits. We know. Everyone and their grandma knows. What the hell Marvel how stupid do you think your audience is? Anyway great review, I’m with you 97%!

Omar writing from Naija. Guess I wasn’t the only one. One more reason why I love Angry Joe. I acutally thought that watching the movie in 3D was pointless. It made it an eye candy but, taking them off, it felt like the old movies I’d watched already. “Thor” wasn’t special without the 3D, and its climax, most especially, was begging for more details. I suspect that this film’s meant to be a part 1 of the series.

So I wasn’t really the only one who noticed that the movie was clean to watch without the glasses? Fuck! I really paid 2,000 Naira ($13.33) for nothing! A regular 2D film went for just N500!

    BTW, your glasses were gross.

UPDATE: “God-forsaken video game”? Sounds like an Angry Review in the making.

thats odd..at the movie theatre where i live the whole movie was in 3d not just the asgard parts. Imean it was still a piece of crap and i had to drive bak home with a killer headache. That was actuallly my first 3d experience and, needless to say, last.

Actually, they did mess up the mythology. And the reason captain America and green lantern will probably be better movies is because theyre not gods, they arent invinvible. Thats probably my biggest problem with this movie (except from that its 3D), theres no threat to Thor on earth, and in Asgard the only one who can beat him is Odin. Mjolnir is the most powerful weapon in Asgard, the only reason Odin is stronger is because he sacrificed an eye for power, but since hes out of the picture the only thing that needed to happen in the movie was for Thor to get his powers back and nobody could beat him. Also, just a thought, watch the movie for free online instead if you dont want to waste your money on an effin 3D movie?

not to disagree but thor will be deafeated and killed my the midgard worm or as called in danish tounge midgårds ormen. and odin his aslo doomed to be killed by fenris the wolf, so they arent intirely invinvible
so their is a threat agienst them. just wanted to say but else i agree with you

Didn’t really agree with a lot of the points you’ve made Joe. But first, you are probably right about the 3 D, it seemed to be pointless after the first 20-30 minutes. But in my theater, it didn’t worsen the movie experience for me. It didn’t really get darker and I could see the movie just fine. Then again, I watched it in an Imax theater, so maybe that did the difference. Or it was just me. So yeah, 3D was pointless but didn’t really piss me off.

I would have preferred to see it in 2D, of course, but since I live in Germany and the english cut of the movie is only available in 3D, I didn’t really have a choice. Beggars can’t be choosers and all that. Also, here in Germany, the difference in price is like only 1 € or 2 €, which is annoying but not really as massive as it seems to be with you guys.

To the movie now but first, I did not read one Thor comic to date, so my review comes from a guy who is not a fan of the comics.: I agree that the action was shot a bit shaky, especially in Jotenheim, and I agree that the romance and character development was a tad rushed, but not to the point where it was unbelievable, and here is why:

Thor adapted to earth and became more humble because he re-remembered how he was supposed to behave. At first, he had trouble accepting the fact with all the “You dare do X to Odin’s Son?!” but he is not an idiot. He is nobility (and a god), the son of the king and was raised to be polite. Scenes where he smashes his cup to the ground for demanding more is because he has different customs from where he comes from and when told that that isn’t how it’s done here, he respects that. Again, he is not a simpleton barbarian, he is a well-educated and raised man who was trained to be the heir to the king and soon to be ruler of the nine realms. While he is hotheaded, hasty, doesn’t think things true at times and arrogant, he is not an indulgent child who can’t adapt to anything.

I agree that more scenes with Thor, showing his change into a much humbler man would have been better, but it didn’t seem unbelievable to me.

To the romance, they clearly had chemistry. A bit underdeveloped maybe, but it worked, imo. While the physical appearances almost certainly played in, they also glimpsed enough of the others personality and character to warrant the feelings. Again, would have been nicer if they had more scenes but nothing unbelievable.

All in all, the only real critique I have is that it should have been a longer film. An hour or half an hour more would have probably addressed most of the problems the movie had and I hope that there is a directors cut of it coming out doing just that.

I really enjoyed the movie, probably my second favorite super-hero movie I have seen after Dark Knight. And to be honest, I would rather see Thor 2 than the Avengers movie.

I came out quite surprised cause I didn’t think it would transition so well to cinemas. I wasn’t big on Thor outside of Stracyznski so it was a pleasant change of pace. About the post credits scene, you have to know your Marvel to appreciate it.

I mean, if you look at his mythology, Thor sometimes is harder to put into a movie than the actual Watchmen comic. It transitioned very well and that’s why I liked it. I don’t think his maturing was rushed. I think what happened between him and Mjolnir actually brought him down to midgard was the ‘quick’ factor. The containment room scene really helped in me being invested.

What I didn’t like was the forced romance and the fact that the warriors three gave out Loki’s plot waaaay too fast.

    Hi Joe,
I love watching your show. You are the only person i believe that is honest in his opinion.
I just saw Thor 3D today. It was okay, the story line was weak and not much action other than a few funny lines.
I should tell you two things right away..
1: I went on Cheap Tuesday where it only $8.00 Canadian to see in 3D
2: Or i could gone to the across the hall to see it in 2D for $5.00
PLUS if you go to a 3D movie, they give you a clean unopened 3D glass. NOBODY has used them.
Joe, You are getting ripped off. THERE IS NO excuses. IF we customers, In Canada, can get them unused, why can’t you????
I will Look forward to your next review.
I see you on the next ANGRYJOESHOW.

Yo Joe, huge long time fan, just two questions for you, did you see this movie at an Alamo Drafthouse? I heard you mention Austin in the video, are you talking about Austin Texas? I live in Austin as well, I never knew you lived here, heh. Let’s hang brah! Nah, but seriously, let me know man. Would be pretty awesome to find out you live in the same city.

LOL when me and my friend went to see this he saw the 3D and go ooh lets do that. But I wouldn’t budge. NOPE I talked him into doing 2D and afterwards he was like yeah 3D wouldn’t have been worth it.

    Shirtless scene at our theater.
    No reaction from the women.
Guy in front of me goes “he’s hot” Jokingly
I say ” Yeah very I think I’m going gay for him”
    Everyone laughs.
It was pretty empty but making a theater laugh instead of pissed off at you is pretty cool :D

I think people are praising the movie because it is one of the comics that’s more difficult to adapt to movies.

As for Loki being an obvious bad guy. I think they actually toned him down compared to the comics. Loki is just an obvious mustache twirling villain in the comics. He’s still a mischievous trickster in the movie but he’s not so obviously villainous.

Joe, come to Chile to do movie reviews. All 3D movies also come in 2D and our 3D glasses are much, much better than the ones you showed.
