It still doesn't change the fact that it is another FPS. And besides, Spoony is strictly talking about the original X-COM, and he didn't say he is dismissing rest of the series. And even though the other 3 X-COM games are different contextually, they still have the same kind of spirit in their gameplay.

If people like you keep allowing this kind of trend in gaming, you guys are slowing down its revolution. What good will come from making such a dull unchanging community without taking risks. As you said, sacrifice is necessary, but think carefully about what you sacrifice for what cause. Its not like this kind of genre is dying because it doesn't have any potential.

And tell me, can you think of ANY reasons why they should call it X-COM, and make their game so infamous by doing so? If they are so desperate to make big money, why not call it something more recognizable and appealing?

X-COM 1 takes place in 1999-2000 (Oh how original), X-COM 2 - 40 years later, X-COM 3 - another 40-50 years later. If you make a prequel to 1st game following those rules, 50s-60s is exactly where you end up. As for the rest of complains - it's an opinion of a person who haven't played original trilogy, as you stated below, based on a trailer year before games scheduled release.

The reason some people called betrayal on Fallout 3 is because of how dramatic the change was. This is an age were an overabundance of shooters can ruin other people's interpretations for an upcoming game. When Fallout 3 came out though it proved a good many of them wrong. I played the other games in the series Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, etc. and I made the unmistakable conclusion that it is in fact a true Fallout game. Here's where I'm getting at, people are upset with X-COM because it fails in one thing that Fallout gets right, they didn't stick to their original source material, they completely changed the entire game.

What I think is that people are comparing it to Fallout 3 in a sense of hope that this COULD be a decent game, but it isn't going over well right now. The game looks lazy, unpolished, extremely forgettable, a clone of an already good battle system, and a sheer raping of the cult fan based theology the game placed itself upon from a futuristic setting down to a stock, cliche 1950's setting (Oh how original). It will most likely NOT be like Fallout an more like Highlander II The Quickening to the series.

With exception to the Fallout series, I am aware people still do not like F3 or F:NV and I respect that but times have changed people and you cannot linger in the past all the time constantly hoping for HD remakes/sequels of your games, it's not gonna happen, they're gonna be changed, it is evolution in gaming to do so.

No, he didn't. At 10:40 he starts complaining about aliens:

"The big thing they really banking (?) on for this game are the aliens... and they call them the outsiders. [...] And you know what, they are kinda cool. You know what would be cooler, though? Recognizable fucking aliens from the X-COM games! I wanna see sectoid (X-COM 1)! I wanna see serpentman (snakeman X-COM 1)! I wanna see mutoids (X-COM 1)! I wanna go to a fucking terra mission, where chryssalids (X-COM 1) and cyberdiscs (X-COM 1) are taking people ower [...]! I wanna see cyberdiscs exploding! God damn it! I wanna fire a blaster bomb around the fucking corner and right up the floater's (X-COM 1) ass! Is that too much to ask?! Apparently so!"

Didn't happen in Terror from the Deep. Didn't happen in Apocalypse. Didn't happen in Interceptor.

Similarly, briefly before that he complains about setting, that in his opinion: "Has nothing to do with X-COM". There isn't recurring setting in X-COM games.

It appears to me that he has taken this rather emotional pose without giving it any thought. As I said before - history of tactical squad games is a history of grief and unfulfilled dreams. They do not sell and developer companies go out of business. Good reviews alone mean little these days. Game have to sell. If game is appealing only to a narrow audience - it's game over. Mythos Games is no more. Sir-Tech is no more. Apeiron is no more. While I do not have numbers of sales for those tactical games, I have numbers for Troika's games, which were highly praised at the time (and still are to this day):
Arcanum (2001) - 234,000, TToEE (2003) - 128,000, Bloodlines (2004) - 72,000.

Compare those numbers to these:
Battlefield: 1942 (2002) - 4.39 million, Half-Life 2 (2004) - 6.5 million, Doom 3 (2005) - 3.5 million.

Troika is no more.

Also you will find Doom 1 & Doom 2, Quake 1 & 2, Duke 3D and other shooter in the "list of best selling PC video games" @wikipedia. None of those tactical games are in there.

One have to understand, that developers have to find a compromise that would be appealing to a wider audience - sacrifices has to be made. It's either a game that developers think will sell, or nothing. Nobody will make you big budget X-COM remake, when predicted sales are so little for such games, you have to understand this. But, if this game sells, maybe it could happen, who knows. Give it a chance.
