I’m just happy to have beaten the gamer stereotype that one cannot Skyrim and have a girlfriend at the same time. I have the collector’s edition, probably spent 150 hours on it, the only irritating problem with this game is the same problem with all RPGs: if you like creating characters, the tutorial level and the start-up WILL BORE YOU TO TEARS!
I agree! Seriously, I felt bored out of my socks in the intro, I almost judged the game based on it. But it was quick, and you quickly get into devouring souls
Okay..you people are either stupid or stupid.
”Dumbed down leveling” LOL.
People complained in Oblivion so badly how the bandits were wearing freaking Daedric Sets….’
The loot system in oblivion wasnt’t much better, plus, armors look much better.
I didn’t get many bugs, and I am on PS3. I found it not too be as buggy-ish, I froze only twice in 240 hours in so far.
The combat is GREATLY improved. People, nobody wants too auto attack anymore. Combat is actually dynamic and you feel like you are DOING something.
I liked the story, not the best story ever, but it was intresting and I felt badass as the Dragonborn.
The side quests are fillers in every game….
And you trying too tell me The Dark Brotherhood, Imperial vs Stormclock, College of Winterhold, The Companions was bad?
No.
imperial vs stormcloak sucked and hardly affected anything
companions had like 7 boring missions
winterhold is only intersting thing and its short as hell too
The Civil War quest line did effect the world.
For one, I got rid of that annoying bastard Tulius
While I wish Balgruff stayed, now that hold changed.
And through out, guards changed and general attitude changed.
Companions was pretty good, actually. While it did annoy me how he treated me like a scrub, it was nice.
Winterhold was very intresting, and I personally really liked it.
Dark Brotherhood was probably one of the best, because it really shows you how after abandoining they’re tenets, they are nothing but a shell.
guys i dont know whats wrong with you skyrim to me at leats almost never freezed maybe its your software ao hardware and this is not rpg wtf dude im not sure what u want becouse hack and slash games dont have open world or anything like that for me its a mix of everything thats awesome dragons , loot , good story and quests i couldnt ask for more
Just to make it better there will be some new DL content for Skyrim that weren’t added at it’s release.
Things added will be things such as:
~ Better Mounts (Dragons, Flaming horses)
~New weapon type (Spear)
~ New “Curse” called Vampire Lord (Allowing you to turn people into you’re personal vampire minions and giving you flight)
And much more!!
Spend 500+ hours in 6 months time sofar. How could this game be any less then 10/10?
This game is nice but only one question where is the FUCKIN MINIMAP for fuck sack. About the freeze after 40 hour of game i got 2 at the start ….
For all the complaints everybody’s giving about the side quests…come on, really? Games are meant to tell stories. Side quests, to me, are just filler in order to get better stuff. A lot of it should be entertaining filler though, and Skyrim has plenty of that. While they do get tedious, I never felt that they got at all boring. For me, the fun is when I get to that side quest again because then I know how to plow through all the enemies – makes me feel superior, and that should always be there in a game: the feeling of superiority. I also see people putting down the environment. Have you ever been to any mountainous landscape? They captured it perfectly in this game. The bugs also never bothered me much because they don’t interfere with my actual gaming experience, apart from only one freeze I experienced during my first playthrough. While I don’t think this game deserves a full 10/10, I do think it deserves a 9 or higher. I rate it a 9.5/10 due to how addicting and immersive it is.
One major thing that Joe would bi*ch about if he played PC version – you need to activate it via Steam (just like EA Online Pass he hates so much). And the fact that you can’t buy the game online in some regions sucks too…
First, the bad stuff:
I liked Skyrim, but I could not bring myself to actually finishing it, because after a while, cave (or castle/tomb/whatever dungeon you can think about) quests start to get terribly boring…
Another thing I hated was not being able to disarm traps by any other way than triggering them with arrows. What the hell? If I spot the triggering mechanism, I should be able to disable it, right?
As for crashing, the game dropped to desktop for no reason about 10 times in my 40-something hours of gameplay
Now to the good stuff:
Dragon killings are way better than closing Oblivion gates, which suffered from the same problem like quests mentioned in previous paragraph, and dual wielding spells is awesome (I just wish for some cool “finishing-move” animations for us spellcasters, why do developers forget about us?).
As for levelling, I liked the way they changed that stupid system from Oblivion, in which you coud seriously weaken your caharacter by not doing the right thing. But it is not the best RPG system there is.
For me, I give skyrim 8/10 for being good action-RPG with some serious problems, like online activation and repetitive/boring quests.
I love ya Joe but this is one of the few reviews that i disagree with. They dumbed down the RPG element of the game too much and the main campaign was no where near as epic as TES:IV main campaign. I thought that Bethesda might do the right thing and go back to a more Morrowind style RPG (more hardcore) but they only went further down the road of trying to appeal to a more general audience and reducing the complexity of the RPG element just like they did when they made Oblivion. The only thing i enjoyed more in Skyrim than i did in Oblivion was the character models and the flashy spells, but other than that Oblivion did everything better. My final score for Skyrim was a 8 out of 10, still an amazing game but not as good as Oblivion and Morrowind, which are still my favorite games of all time.
I think Legendary is an understatment.
First legendary score for Angry Joe, ohhh hell
Sorry fore asking but was the first legendary score for red dead?:b
wasen’t*
This is a very good game… but for me it seems to be just a big “poke” fest. You do allot of stuff not because you have to or even need to, it’s just there and you can do it. You can play the game for 30 hours exploring caves and tombs, helping or killing people and then you remember that there was that world saving mission at the beginning of the game that you haven’t even started yet.
That’s the problem with all the Elder Scrolls games, the main quest is usually very generic and uninteresting and can be completed in about 10 to 15 hours. There is no point in doing it because if you do, there is basically no point in playing anymore.
In the end if you like this kind of “go anywhere, do anything” games than hey, go get them tiger.
Amazing game aside from a few other glitches! Your reviews are very entertaining!
god damn it, do you ppl even know what “RPG” stands for? It would be agreeble to call Skyrim an “action-rpg” at most. I go for hack’n'slash.
This game is an impressive piece of work. I can’t quite agree with the 10/10 rating, but I would gladly see more games with this level of free-form exploration. That being said, the getting stuck in places because of that freedom to explore does suck pretty hard.
There are some moments where Skyrim wowed me over, and there are some things about the game that made me scratch my head.
1. Skooma. In Oblivion, Skooma really felt like a drug. In Skyrim, it’s just a generic potion. What’s up with that?
2. Is it me or the sides I pick on are either evil or neutral?
3. I wonder if I can fight the Aldmeri Dominion at some point if I am not killing them just to accomplish a quest.
Though thankfully, with the PC version, least I can mod this bad boy to resolve most of the problems.
oooh, and i forgot one of the things that made me delete this game: THE FUCKING LEVEL DESIGN!!!! it was soooooooo repetitive, i remember exploring some dungeons and they all looked the same with the first one which you use for your escape and not only this one, i had a fucking headache getting to those great gray beards(i don’t know how are they really called and i don’t really care) on that stupid mountain.
for me oblivion is one of the best games ever, when i played it for the first time all i know is that i played it ’till 4 am without even realising it. i loved the game and it’s still one of my top 10 fav games and when i saw news about a new elder scrolls i was the happiest guy on earth, i expected soooo much from skyrim, sooo much, but unfortunately for me, it hadn’t that feeling that oblivion had, i dunno apart from the tons of bugs (the one when you dismounted the horse really annoyed me) the story was very very weak, it wasn’t interesting at all, and the landscapes, i loved the coloured landscapes from oblivion and especially from shivering isles, but in skyrim all you have is mountains and snow and yea’ i know that skyrim is the land of the nords and there should be mountains and snow but i dunno, i just don’t like it and i expected also a BIGGER map.seriously, is skyrim’s map bigger than oblivion’s? i don’t think so, and also i expected so many new things from skyrim, but the only one, the only fucking one thing that is better in skyrim is the perking system(i don’t even know if this is correct) but you get my point.i hate when someone has to do so many new things in a new product and all they do is some very unimportant new things: like in skyrim you can get married. is this important to gameplay? NO!.i bet that many people who say that skyrim is the best game eva, or the best of the year didn’t even touched oblivion. i have a friend who love skyrim very much, but he spent like 1-2 hours in oblivion, and other 2 friends who spent countless hours in oblivion (like me) and they hated skyrim.maybe i was a little too harsh saying it’s the worst game of the year, it’s a decent game, and it’s a great game for those who didn’t ever played oblivion, but for me it was by far the biggest disappointment of the year.and sorry for my english, i’m romanian
Honestly, I really don’t think skyrim is worth a 10/10, I mean really, the Game must have frozen on me 15 to 20 times my first play through, they barely added on any new novels and certainly not any new series of novels (Save one or two Elder Scrolls history series), now there are only four factions instead of five ( Which compared to Morrowind is Meager), Now we’ve lost Acrobatics and hand to hand and spell customization to add to the already lost Spears as well as things like Throwing weapons, levitation and attributes.
The Elder Scrolls Series has become more linear in recent years, everything we’ve gained has come at the cost of something we’ve already had, further more Bethesda still hasn’t tweaked the A.I. of ally character’s to prevent them from getting in the crossfire between you and the enemy your targeting, or tweaked them to avoid running towards a giant or two when It’ll take roughly a few strikes for those giants to kill that Ally.
Or how about the fact the dragons killed in towns don’t always go away with time (Bethesda could have brought back the dispose body option from morrowind…) I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy skyrim but at times it was trying given to all the bugs, glitches, cutbacks and bad decisions made by bethesda this time around. I just hope that the D.L.C.’s make up for this, also that The Elder Scrolls 6 is much better Plotwise, gameplaywise and varietywise.
i agree its very buggy but hopefully the next game will actually fix the bugs and add more depth to combat. it will get boring, but name one game that took more than like 1000 hours to get tedous
0ne more thing there is only nords and imperails I HAVE TO LOOK FOR DARK ELVES WOOD ELVES, HIGH ELEVS(WHICH ARE NOT TRYING TO KILL ME) BRETONS. REDGUARDS, KIJAHT, AND ARGOIAONS. ALSO ABOUT THE RED GUARDS I ONLY FOUND A BOUT THREE WHICH ARE NOT MERCAINES OR BANDITS. I WOULD GIVE THIS GAME NOT A 10\10 I WOULD GIVE IT A 7\10 UNLESS THEY FIX THIS ISSUE. ALSO I DON’T WANT TO HEAR “BUT SKYRIM IS THE HOME OF THENORDS OF COURSE THE NON NORDS SPEICES ARN’T THERE” MY ANSWER TO YOU IS EXPLAIN MORROWIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Personaly skyrim bores me now. they main story sucks. the guild quests get boring and all the side quests feel the same. By “feel the same” i mean go and kill every thing in cave, castle, etc and or do the same thing and get me a sword. I personly like oblivions more creative quests and activites.
even though he is my favorite reviewer and his fav game is shitrim i still hate this game and it really is the worst game of 2011.oblivion is the only good game that bethesda ever created and fallout 3 sucks too.
worse than mindjack? come on, have you actually played it?
26 ppl sad no omg
holy crap it says will you buy it? 5 no 435435432523523532543534653845983458537258372874573857258372573857387587483578372587235827385728572385782375878237583275827582758275827358738278237587552387591378237852972389572572389572385723895728935728752895782378573825782539287823785932783575873873582738278527587298732999999999992922982745585895093845857372747577575775ggrtr485835885828588582858 yes (whats with the ggrtr)
come on. skyrim is not perfect but its an amazing game and if you think this game is shit. THEN WHY THE FUCK DID YOU SPEND SO MUCH TIME ON IT!!
2 reasons i now HATE the game
1- they out the hand-to-hand skill and acrobatics skill (my 2 favorit skills)
2- how come a small punch of people or just one giant can easily kill a dragon (i saw a giant kill a full dragon in ONE hit) FATALITY!
…That’s it? That’s the only reason you hate it?
You’re an idiot.
After I have spent 144 hours with skyrim and tried the game with different settings, I can only say one thing.
Sure the game is big has a lot to offer but unfortunately it falls flat.
The game is primarily developed for consoles and then ported to the PC with big problems.
When it came out it turned out pretty fast how badly optimized the game really is.
Quests are broken mess, some cannot be completed and MQ is broken too.
Its a complet mess of a game on pc 5/10
The positive news is that user mods fixes most of these issues and makes the UI much better.
Another example of MInecraft economy being much more efficient than centralized authoritarian systems.
I can’t wait to get my hands on this game. Didn’t realize you could catch butterflies and shit like that. May sound silly but I love a game filled with those little distractions.
just to let other people know wasup before they buy this game
its a 10/10 first play through
but after getting familar with the game on your next playthroughs that score goes down
first the game lacks items, like random drops
the best items are made and that can be abused
once a questline is beaten theres no sence of acomplishment
this game is very addicting at first, i made 5 characters with all different play styles
the thing is after a certain point it gets pointless and boring
this is better as a rent, don’t buy, its fun at first like i said but then you’ll regret the purchase
don’t lesson to the fanboys like i did
be smart and rent then after a couple play throughs decide yourself
let angry joe play through this a couple times i bet that number will change for me its like a … 7/10 diminishing replay value
Leave it to the community, the mods will make this game better. Unless you bought a console version, which is the main reason why I think the Elder Scrolls should be a PC exclusive anyway.
Finally bought this game. Having a blast with it. Once in a while when I use my Spark power, I feel this urge to shout “UNLIMITED POWA!!!!!” Thanks Joe!
I would give Skyrim a 7/10. At first i realy liked it, but the further i played it, the more i saw how static the world realy is. My choices have no real influence on the environment. After big events, you will hear new comments from the people, but besides that, there is no real change. After i helped the empire to defeat the stormcloaks, there were just a few new guards. There wasn’t even somekind of hatred towards me from former stormcloak supporters. The world is almost exactly like before. The same after the main quest. It has no influence.
This was so disappointing to me. The world is as static as most MMORPG’s.
Nice try, but i prefer rpg’s like The Witcher 2.
i agree 10 out of ten i know i know i dont have a taste i dont care about glichtes or whateves but every time i go to the dark brother hood lagg
Yes Skyrim is fucking awesome, its MADE of win and awesome. But i tried the Reckoning kingdoms of amalur demo and i think it may be a contender to skyrims new fame, will you be trying that to Joe?
Yeah, he said a review will be coming soon I think like today or tommorow, maybe? (Feb. 12-13)
epic reviwe and epic game = epic STUFF
Skyrim is in my opinion the best RPG to date, great review! Have you ever considered reviewing Dark Souls? I know you did a “let’s play” of it, but I would love to see your final verdict.
300th comment!!!
Angry Joe, I love your reviews and all, but I can’t really give this a 10/10 personally. For me the game got boring after the main quest which I believe was grand in scale, none of the other questlines measured up to it, the closets being the Imperials vs Stormcloaks maybe. However this will keep me busy until Kingdoms of Amalur comes out. I hope you preview and review that game it looks like it’ll be great!
Skyrim is the RPG to ever hit the gaming universe and Angry Joe is so awesome he shoots everyone in the knee
ok ok i teack it black i am sorry ok i am relly sorry it is a bad bad ass game wooooo
So, despite all the game breaking glitches and such, you still give it a 10?
Jee-sus Christ.
well red dead redemption had a lot of glitches and it got a 10 out of 10 so i see no problem there
You neglected the daedric quests? Those are the best ones, I got a wabbajack for Gods sake, A WABBAJACK!
what the fffffffuuuuuuuucccccccccckkkkkkkkk its the most shiterst games of all time i coud not even get control of it but i do have ps3 wich is the best consoled ever so change the resolt its shit oh and i now games i am 13 and i found it the most un entetainig games ever but i do agree with other games so thanks
Well and i guess there’s the problem, buddy. You’re 13.
Gaystation 3 version suck!!!!
Besides the AI getting me killed in the Thieves Guild this is my favorite Role Playing game I’ve every played, what do you mean the loot system has been dumbed down? I’ve played Oblivion and it’s loot system isn’t any different… If I am wrong feel free to correct me.
This Game Dosen’t stay true to the other elder scrolls games in the series such as: the loot system is dumbed down, the AI is pure GARBAGE { for some reason only the friendly ai } and the lvl up system has also been dumbed down to an immature lvl srry thats just my opinion.
When I play in the thieves guild I never bring my partner because they always screw everything up
Angry Joe says there arent a lot of bugs, but if you play Skyrim on a PS3 for an extended amount of time, the FRAMERATE WILL DROP RiDICULOUSLY. It makes the overrall experience annoying if you keep playing the game. i still think the game kicks ass though.
Great review, I love watching it!
However…with the final verdict, I have to disagree. I’d give this game a 9.0. A major component of the game is the leveling system and it’s screwed up in my opinion. I prefer Oblivion’s over this one. I just hate the fact that they took all the attributes (which were present since 1994) and simplified them into just three, not to mention the fact that games 2, 3, and 4 all had major and minor skills and this game goes right back to the first one with none. This is one of my very few gripes (the other annoyance of late has been the fact that creatures die in rather awkward, unrealistic positions).
I loved this review, its the best review of a game i have ever seen !
I hate the stupid AI in Skyrim. I mean, I didn’t have to work very hard to stay hidden while Voslung just floated around, sounding like a pervert on the phone!
about those bugs ive ran into some unpleasant ones
1. when use ice form on someone on a steep hill they fall down then bounce of and start flying in the air until the spell wares off
2. when i was doing the companion questline i finished 2 radiant quests and i was suposed to get a certain quest but the speech option never came up
3. some times the finishing moves glitch out when i just freeze and the rest of the bad guys attack me and then after 3sec the finisher continues
4. the AI are as dumb as f**k when sneaking. kill someeone with a bow and the rest of the enemies run at y position and when i become hidden again they just continue what they were doing ignoring the dead body
5. when a draugr deathlord (or whatever hes called) uses the shout that makes you drop your weapon sometimes the weapon just disapears and you cant get it back
