It has come to my attention many of you oppose the SOPA bill I’m having fast tracked! Perhaps you people are just misinformed or perhaps you are all pirates! The honorable ranking member Conyers R-TX, a co-sponsor of SOPA might have said it best, “All we’re trying to do here is stop online piracy. Since when did opposition get so fierce against this? What could be behind the motives of people or organizations that don’t think stopping online piracy is something that we need to deal with?” Well said indeed!

      If you paid for something then you have the right to use it. Thats all.
      Sharing? No way. For example games:
      Your not a selling comany that have the “support” for that title.
      Your not a selling company that garantees the titles quality.

    Hey I need someone to answer this for me. If I go to my friends house and watch a UFC fight on tv is it illegal? If my friend lives in hawaii and saw this UFC fight and records it and sends the tape to me is that illegal? If my friend doesn’t have a tape and just sends it over the internet using something like e-mail, IRC, or bit torrent is that illegal? As long as it was originally paid for and he didnt sell it to me, isnt that legal? It’s not bootlegging if it isn’t sold.

    It would be illegal to go to a theatre or a game shop and steal the movie, then give it away right?
    But is it illegal to buy a movie or game, make yourself a backup copy, then give the original away?
    Is it really illegal to make a copy of something and give it away? If I had this really awesome episode of lost on tape and gave it to my neighbor is that a crime?

      1. No, its legal. the TV stations have allready paid for “UFC fight”.
      2. No, its legal. Redistributing that copy makes it illegal. But making a copy from a broadcast is like
      recording a movie in the cinema.
      3. No, its legal. but whit the same limitations as you explain.
      4. EULA. You dont have the right for redistributing. Stealing makes it much worse.
      5. Yes. You have paid for only one copy. The copy contiains the same user rights and limitations
      as the original as long as you legally paid for it (digital downloads like steam). Giving away the
      original while keeping a copy form a title makes it piracing. Is like stealing and redistributing it.
      6. No its legal. As long as your neightbor dont pay for it.

    I actually have nothing against pirates. I mean, when you buy a movie with YOUR money, you have the rights to do whatever you want with it. You should be allowed to put movies and games for download by other people if you already have payed for it. It is just like all other stuff: you can for example buy a book, and since you spent money on it, you can either give it or sell it to anyone you want to. Thats one of our basic rights.

      Well, then just give it away, don’t put it up for people to download, just like with a book, when you give it or sell it to someone, you don’t own a copy of it anymore, unlike putting it up for download. If you want to give your game to a friend, just give your game to your friend, but when you give it away, it means that copy is then theirs. My limited English skills are probably making it harder to understand my point, but I hope you get what I’m going after.

        There in lies the problem of digital VS physical. What if y ou BOUGHT an E-book and want to give that to a friend? Well you could just give them your Ipad, or you could send them a copy of your E-book.

      It’s not pirating if it isn’t stolen man. PIrates don’t just occupy the ocean and hand out shit they’ve bought from all over the world.
