[...] the American Civil War in both RTS and Third-Person-Shooter modes. Danny Green who I interviewed here programmed the entire game from scratch himself, a regular one man army! He was a fun guy to talk to [...]
I think you should go and look up TA: spring project also, if you like good RTS games and its also free. http://springrts.com/
the world builder alone make me buy this game
that’s an awesome idea and i hope it will be used in the next total war game. but without singleplayer campaign this game can be boring. i mean, what’s the point of creating an army then fighting with bot over again and again??Even multiplayer will get old quick unless they had some really cool features in store for us.
Looks neat but I worry it will end up like APOX. That looked cool too being like a Mad Max RTS with shooter elements. But then it felt like a unit spammy game that was mostly online only which is no fun if no one plays it.
Anyway yeah the game could be neat though I don’t really understand the unit balance. What out of those guys could beat a tank? And how do single shot rifles compete at all with machine guns lol. But yeah I would definitely like to play the Confederates an give those yankees a whippin.
This game looks really cool imo! I will definitely buy it.
Actually, change history could be really fun. I ‘m not a fan of the Civil War, but use steampunk arsenal in a tps way in a Strategy games, I’ m in!
Fawr dah confeddurasii!!! YEEEEHAW! Let’s kill dem yankee scumbags!
Hey thanks for putting this game on my radar Joe! It looks pretty great actually and with some surprisingly detailed graphics… which I’m always a bit of a whore for. Even if the vs. gameplay isn’t all that great I could easily get 10 bucks worth of fun just from messing around with that map editor and admiring the detail
Hello Joe!
“Nice! I never thought i”d see anything like that!” – you show yourself a little incompetent.
Never head of Battlezone series? It was quite big at the time.
And what that guy meant saying “This graphics resolution is 50%”? I hope he meant ground texture that looks horrible. And overall game looks pretty crappy even for a budget title now i’d say.
And for me, as i live in moscow, it is always better to buy a full retail game, as long as they are sold much cheaper in our country (yes, all russians download stuff and never pay for it. true). A new retail game like Archam City costs roughly 15-20$ in your money (licensed stuff!). So i would not pay for half assed titles like this one, and i would feel guilty downloading it, since it is a one guy developer, i appreciate.I
Sir, I think your cultural background and interpretation skills are preventing yourself from getting a few points here. I mean, your point of view is interesting because of this “situational difference”, but please be a little bit more careful about destructive and personal criticisms, avoiding (potential)unnecessary animosity in the comments.
Oh, and have a good day, sir.
Cought one hipster on my troll pole. Thank you for a wonderfull comment.
not bad not bad. only a day and king arthur 2 comes out cant wait for the rewiew.
Hm I don’t know. Isn’t the appeal of historic war games their authenticity to the time period? Sure, seeing a union soldier with an exo-skeleton and a gatling gun has a certain comedy factor to it, but I doubt that this will win people over. If I want to play the battle of Gettysburg, I don’t want to play a game utilizing machine guns, tanks, and air strikes.
My point is that the title caters itself to a target audience that, more likely then not, has different taste and expectations.
If I was looking for a modern day or sci-fi RTS, I wouldn’t even bother checking out a game calling itself Gettysburg.
Vice versa, if I wanted a historical battle RTS, modern day weaponry would turn me away from the product.
But you CAN play with just the old school units, or just with the modern tech guys. The whole point is that you get the option of choosing either/or or both. It’s a blend of a historical RTS with a sci-fi RTS to appeal to both crowds, not turn them away.
But therein lies the problem, doesn’t it? If you try to appeal to audiences at both ends of the spectrum you usually end up dissapointing both of them.
Sure you could choose not to play with the fantasy units, but your opponent still might, which would ruin the experience for a purist as well.
The question is: would a purist even pick that game up (and I am pretty convinced that purists are the main buyers of American Civil War games)? Personally, I don’t think so.
There is little else that puts that game apart from other historic war games besides the “novelty units” and if you have no intention of using them in the first place, then why would you want to buy this particular product to begin with?
I may be wrong, but I think that this was an ill advised choice.
It looks like a copy of Men of War / Faces of War / Soldiers: Heroes of WWII
But with a new setting
I dont mean its bad, not at all. It takes the good elements of it and improves it.
I hope there are also city maps, and Men of War style damage systems and items.
happy to see someone who likes Faces of War! It’s one of my favorite game, didn’t have the chance to get my hands on the newerr games like Men of War yet though, are they as good?
Looks like fun but I would have to see what the DLC is and how much it goes for. And it seems like there is no singleplayer campaign, at least from what I could see, so you’re also gambling that it will be played online or find people to play it with you.
So I would have to see if it doesn’t become a secret money sink with tons of dlc and if the servers aren’t deserted within no time.
Hope it will all work out but it looks cool but I have a few reservations still.
Europa Universalis Superior ! hope for EU 4 soon.
How exactly would the “old-school” army guys be appealing with all this futuristic tech? Players will just ignore them if they don’t have something cool going for them. Like faster movement, because all the other guys are lugging heavy tech and weaponry, or bigger squads, or some kind of passive terrain bonuses. Just something so that they won’t get ignored in favor of the gatling gun dudes. Add some more steampunk on top of that (I LOVE steampunk) and I’m sold on this game. It looks awesome.
For what I could see in the selection screen, I guess the Army Points are the key factor here. For what it costs to put up one armored modern-day soldier with a minigun, you can get a full squad of musketeers. Actually, the concept looks ingenious: even if you only use old-school units, you can always win out by sheer numbers – not to mention the fact that, for shooter experts, your own precision can come into play on either side.
I guess you’re right, as long as the balance isn’t messed up.
What he was trying to say was that for fans of historical warfare (such as myself) there are classic soldiers with muskets and cannons im sure there will be options to disable certain units for singleplayer and multiplayer use. so if you enjoy old school historical units you got em!!! AND if you like cool steam punk crap
you got them too its not a matter of will someone choose them for their abilities its a matter of if the player wants to use hostorical units.
This game looks like it has something going for it. I don’t even like most RTS games myself but I’ll refer to a few of my friends who do. I myself will hopefully be playing Diablo 3 in March so I wouldn’t have time to play it seeing as I will be hunting down the Lord of Terror for a third time. Thanks for the information though Joe!
