Ask the guy if there is going to be the same Laser/Plasma Pistol/Rifle/Heavy system for the possible Laser and Plasma weaponry? or is there going to be more variety…like Laser Sniper Rifles or LMGs?
Joe. Could you do a Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning review? It feels to me like a seriously undervalued game. People need to know how great this game is going to be. Thanks.
Joe, pls make another review of something awful.
Do not care if this will be a game, movie, advertisments, girls from your school or anything else, just make it pls. You are getting lazy lately!
.
Questions for Firaxiss:
1 – Do the new game allow buy or produce night-vision goggles for our soldiers or do we still need to keep throwing the stupid “electro-flares”?
2 – Can we use stuff like stealth camouflage and silenced weapons for playing ninja or we still need to scout with tanks and/or cannon fodder?
joe please PLEASE can you make a lets play of AMNESIA ,its the best horor game i have ever played and its 15 dolars on steam, and can you make it with jacob or other joe becose if you play alone you will literaly shit your pants. PLEASE JOE o and ceep up the good work. your bigest fan
I’ve seen you get over-excited about a few things now, but this time you are absolutely fucking right about this! As i scroll the comments i notice that so many have yet to experience the top 5 video game of all time. I completely agree with you that time units are a must and i will be sure to choose that difficulty to unlock it. Did you play X-Com Apocalypse? It is only slightly less epic.
Question to developer:
Is the story linked to the FPS (rumor says it is)? If yes: Does this mean one has all the tech from the FPS or has humankind already forget about it (the first one would be boring, the latter not believable)? And does this mean, that all mankind already know about the aliens?
Thin man looks like G-Man… wait.., what the FU#$!?
Off topic but Joe, are you going to review Warhammer Space Marine?
I second everything the man says. I’m all about this remake and can’t wait to see some more about this game in the coming months. BTW The song is Don’t Stop The Rock by Freestyle. Soundhound is awesome. It even figured it out through Joe’s ooohhhs and ahhhs
@Blastermaster1942
SOPA has now been suspended indefinitely, as well as ESA withdrawing their support of SOPA and PIPA.
No E3 protests necessary at this point.
Make us proud, like you always do, Joe!
oh lord!please don’t let the fuck this up!
I’m happy you’re happy Joe! And I’m definitely going to give X-Com: EU a try, but I want to ask you (as a lot of viewers already have) not to attend or cover E3 in protest of the ESA backing SOPA.
I know you’ve got to E3 in a number of years past, but I beg you to support the resistance against SOPA.
I’m putting my faith in you Joe,
-blastermaster1942
the game looks good but if i comes out this year the game will have issues. I think they need to give it more time to make it better.
I’m not trying to Spam, so before i paste this large amount of text. Let me just say, i’m looking forward to this game. I’ve never played the original x comm. However i am a huge fan of RTS and strategy games. They are a refreshing change to the world of fps and linear rpgs that flood the market.
Do you like video games? Did you know that the ESA ( Entertainment Software Association ) is a company that runs E3, which is the gaming industries biggest source of advertisement for video games and anything related to them. They are Supporting SOPA/PIPA And these folks who are making this video have asked us ( their viewer’s ) to tell all of our favorite game critics such as those on TGWTG.com and those associated with Channel Awesome ( to name a few ), to not attend or cover E3. If you enjoy the internet and video games of any sort. Even just Facebook ones. I suggest you take this issue seriously. There are many more immediately dangerous things that have been approved by the government than SOPA, such as the FEMA camps and the bill that allows the military to indefinitely detain any American citizen they feel is adding terrorism. But such things, sadly have been proven in the past to be immune to public outcry. However SOPA can be effected by public outcry. As the white house itself has spoken out against it, which is amazing, honestly. Anyway please just watch this short video. http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/stand-together-the-gaming-community-vs-sopa-and-pipa
I know you read your comments Joe, i hope you see this and i hope the rest of your fans and haters here do as well.
It would be nice if Joe and anyone else who has covered E3 before chose to do this, The blackout proved to be a success, and caused some senators, and others to back down on their support of sopa/pipa
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/19/technology/web-protests-piracy-bill-and-2-key-senators-change-course.html?_r=1
So keep those calls, emails, and petition signing going folks your doing great!, and information that these folks provide you and others helps out a lot too!
This march is the sequel of UFO Extraterrestrials.
The direct sequel to the game you (joe) said was as close to the original as you could get.
I wonder how the two games will compare. It seems like this will be a good year for X-com fans.
JOOOOOOOOOEEEE!!! YOU GOTTA HERE ME JOOOOOEEEE!!! , oh and everyone else of course.
If you haven’t already heard the ESA (entertainment software association) has put its support behind SOPA. Now these guys are the the guys that run E3 among other things, so now the lobbeists behind SOPA think the games industry and all its fans and supporter are behind it has well. Well fuck them because were not. Please Joe (and the rest of blistered thumbs for that matter), don’t do any coverage of E3 to show your opposition to the ESA and SOPA, until the ESA change their game.
For more information please watch this video: http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/stand-together-the-gaming-community-vs-sopa-and-pipa
Come on man you gotta do this.
Thanks
Alex
It almost sounds like Incubation… anyone remembers THAT game? ^^
Please, please, please, dont mess this up. We have been waiting for almost 20 years…
Jagged Allinace was great but different, then the new UFO series was mideocre at best and now this….
I have a really bad feeling we wiell be bitterly dissapointed, that this will be a very shallow game, way to “comicy”, lacking in depth and atmospheare.
Oh please let me be wrong, please, please, please! ^^
It honestly scares me that this is developed for consoles, it could be a DLC game, or just a very watered down of what the fans expected…
Well between this and Ufo2, at least one of them should deliver… shouldnt it?
Oh God… This is going to be a repeat of Sword of the stars 2! Just Kiddin lol
I wonder if Angry Joe is aware that there is a Syndicate Rema…eh, excuse me-Re-imangining being released late February. It’s not a strategy, it’s a first person shooter…well at least it looks cool.
But yeah, I was in just as much shock as Joe when I saw this was an ACTUAL remake of xcom. I just saw “xcom enemy unknown” on the cover and thought: “eh…more coverage on that Fps.” Then actually looking at the cover art and seeing a sectoid and going “Wait…what? an enemy I actually realize? Non 60′s cars?” ‘turns to page’ then going “HOLY FUCKING SHIT! I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS GAME!”
Thank you Firaxis, you earned my respect.
So, cover system; no action points and it’s turn based.
I really don’t see how that’s going to pan out. I mean, I loved the original X-COM, and it’s sequel: Terror from the Deep. X-COM: Apocalypse and Interceptor were less than stellar but I played them regardless.
All games – great or not – in the series had major scientific research ranging from xenobiology to military. I sincerely hope this game will have that, too. That’s what made X-Com what it was.
Ah, well. Time will tell, I suppose.
Firaxis still isn’t done with my Civ 5 Multiplayer…
I am hopeful and i wish they don’t leave out the ability to name your squad members and that their rank increase over time.
Another thing i wish to see again is inexperienced or weak squad members freaking out and running away, dropping their weapon or turning against his/her squad. Annoying as hell but ads to the suspense and super annoying when they just about to enter the battlefield.
This time i would also besides a vast single player experience happily see an online player or players-mode going against each other where one side plays the humans and the other aliens.
Damn what was the name of that song at the beginning! i forgot its damn name
I can understand Joe’s excitement. Funny he should ask Spoony what he thinks. Since Spoony was screaming betrayal when he saw the FPS version lol.
Anyway from what I hear so far about the new game its a bit of a mixed bag. There are some awesome ideas like grappling hooks. And it sounds like a lot more weapon variety an cool enemy types to fight which is great. But then like Joe said I very much disagree with how they removed the TU system, and replaced it with a dumbed down two actions per turn.
So yeah I am excited but also a bit skeptical. Hopefully there is still time for them to take fans input into consideration an make this the game we have been waiting over 15 years for.
I’m hopeful. Publishers have been making “secondary” games to their franchises in recent years and a lot of them have turned out to be quite good. For example, Capcom had Bionic Commando Rearmed, Ubisoft had Clash of Heroes, Eidos had Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, THQ had Warhammer 40K: Kill Team.
alright a new xcom,i never played xcom before but im realy exiced about it now that its going to be a strategy game with al the cool shit from the old one, thumbs up joe.
my question is: when does it come out becose i want it now…………..NOW!!!!!!!!!!!
Im big fan of X-Com too, i played, and still play on my Amiga, really liked video, but, little nitpick, you said “X-COM dudes” they were women in X-COM units too :}
I LOVE the original XCom!
Someone say that was the best game ever made, and i agree with that.
The original show us that fear, suspance, do not come from graphic or “flash” scene (like Doom 3).
No, they come from a good system, from good ideas.
Even if this game will be half good as the original, it will be still a masterpiece.
Wholeheartedly agreed joe! JRPG and turn based strat should receive more spotlight in US. Some may say only old timers like me think that but the youngsters don’t have a clue what they r missing out
What is xcom?
Only one of the best game ever made.

It’s old but try it, you will still enjoy it a lot; it’s really really scary.
Looking forward to more information about this game, need to start surfing the web for it

You know, I’ve never really got around to playing the original X-Com, it was definitely before my time, think it came out around 1993 so I’d have still been in Nursery. Its only until recently that I’ve heard about it and I’ve not long since read up on it on wikipedia, T.V tropes ect and it actually sounds a pretty good game.
What is getting me excited though is that its a TBS, you don’t really see many of those these days, least out side of the odd PC game and maybe on the handhelds. Which is a shame because I love TBS’s and I think that this generation could benefit with a couple new ones to add to the table.
The last good one I played was Gladius on the X box. Speaking of which I do hope they make this a console game along with a PC game. Now before people decide to rip my spine out on the whole “PC’s control better” and such… Well if this was a RTS I’d agree with that. Its much, much easier to play a RTS on a PC than a console cause you do have to be really fast and precise in order to control your men and keep up with the opposing player, something that just doesn’t work well with a controller. With a TBS, that’s not really an issue. Your on an invisible grid so the precision doesn’t really need to be there for that, also, its turn based so you don’t have to be fast when it comes to moving your troops.
So I think it could work on all formats relatively well. Hell it could even work on a PSP, the control scheme for your standard TBS is pretty damn simple at its bare basics. Which is why they tend to age well.
So yeah, looking forward to this, I’m not holding out much hope for the graphics though. Got a feeling that this demo builds graphics might be as far as we’re getting. However its not too bad and I can certainly live with it.
Looks like a lot of people win here though, I get a new RTS, X-com fans get a new X-Com game in the same vain as the original. Thanks for the news Joe.
Never played an xcom game before but 2 skills per unit type seems a bit low these days?
The graphics dont really matter if the gameplay is good though
We want to customize NAMES! And if possible; Character Creation Kit. (Name your team with friends names and make them look like them too)
I hope they don’t S**** this up
Out.
What I’m about to say is probably out of proportions as quite frankly I don’t know nothing about the series. But I have the honesty of liking turn-based titles. And with Firaxis behind this, the same one who’s been behind the Civilization series I must say… Give it time, then I may know whether this is actually a game worth checking out upon it’s release.
I just hope you won’t get disappointed Joe.
Seriously Joe, check out Xenonauts of you have not… (It has a partial cover system to)
I really think Xenonauts is the true remake we want if they manage to finish it, they are releasing their builds to the people that preorder/buy early so you can already look at what they have done if you take the plunge.
I did, and it seems promising.
Anyway, I think you might be hyping this up to much, it looks like to many compromizes have been made… Don’t get me wrong this looks like a fun game, but it also looks like “xcom lite”.
http://www.xenonauts.com/ maybe intereresting for the old Xcom fans, if or when this game isnt what we expect.
I don’t want to sound like a douche, but I don’t see this turning out well. I’ll openly admit that I know next to nothing about X-Com, but I still think Joe is just waaay too excited and is just setting himself up for dissapointment. Hope I’m wrong.
Oh and btw, I don’t get people complaining about it being on Xbox. Sure, the PC makes more sense for strategies in general, but a turn based game should run just as smoothly on the 360. The PC’s advantage is the speed and superior functionality of the mouse and keyboard combo. Correct me if I’m wrong but speed is not a thing you necessarily need in a turn based game, unlike Starcraft for example.
Final note, I just recently became a user and I would just like to say, what with this being my first post and all, that I’m a HUGE fan, Joe. While I may not always competely agree with you for some things, I have nothing but respect for your honesty and dedication. Your videos have excellent production values and are funny as hell.
I know you’re probably extremely busy with a ton of things, but this is something I’ve always wanted to ask you. You tend to stick to the new releases, keeping tabs on whats fresh on the market so that you can keep us up to speed as well. But I would really like to know your opinions on some older games, i.e, ones from before you started the show. I always found it interesting when you brought up older games on your videos and I would love for you to go into more detail. I’m not saying full fledged reviews, that would be ridiculous, but maybe like Vlogs or some other short videos where you talk about and old game that you really liked, or disliked or that you just want people to know about. Or like top 10s for previous years? If you could find the time, it would be really awesome and something that I would definetely like to see.
Apologies for the extra long post and greetings from Bulgaria!
Greetings from America, I second that notion.
I must’ve been a fan since his Farcry 2 review and while I just love this show as is already, what would make it better are classic Vlogs like what Spoony posts every now and then. Maybe they don’t have to be full hour segments like Spoony’s and his brother, but they would be a nice addition to an already great website.
This looks so promising!!
Oh, please let Firaxis make Syndicate game in oppose to that shitty ass shooter that is going to be released.
No reason to get that excited just yet. This is far from being first time that someone tries to redo Enemy Unknown. (only first time that they use the same name). All previous attempts have failed miserably. UFO: Extraterrestrials came closest and got some praise, but IMO it sucked badly atleast before it got some major updates. And this is not the only one which is in development either.
Xenonauts by indie company Goldhawk Interactive looks far more promising than this one. Though being indie title, development time can be long if game even sees the light of day. But you can support them by preordering now. (preorder gives you access to current build) And also that came is purely PC project so no console dumping there.
@Elerium-115
MANTIS!?!? Do you read my mind? (:D)
Exactly as Elerium says. Are they insane!? A (turn based) strategy game on Xbox. On the console? You got to be shitting me. Another poor ass downgraded version of once legendary and fun as shit games eva. Your announcing this awesome “TITLE” throwing a cover system as main feature in my face JOE. I feel insulted XD Anyway, a side scrolling “base” view its looking good tho. There too much to bitch and ask bout in the comment box. So for now im asking you JOE, whats your take on a console versions of turn based games.
PS: Do Joe ever answered a post?
Regards Gamer.
i feel pretty bad for joe. last time he was super excited about a game, that game turn out to be terrible (sword of the star 2). HIgher the hope you put, greater the disappointment will be. So don’t get too hyped up, for your own sake.
You’re mistaken Mark, the SotS 2 isn’t terrible by any means. It was released just a little too early. Even Joe clearly narrow this in his top 10.
X-COM: Enemy Unknown on consoles? I mean, WTF!? Another dumb, jammy and “lets make it more fun” so-called xbox stretegy shit? No action points? Cover system as a main “feature”? And let mi take a blind guess – rechargeble shield or helah or BOTH? Firaxis please, at least rename it – ENFORCER 2 will do just fine.
Based on the screen shot in the forest you showed, this game looks like it’s going to be released on Xbox Live Arcade like Vandal Hearts was. I hope I’m wrong.
I dunno Joe. I dont think there is a place for turn based combat games in todays market. There hasnt been a successful turnbased game in many years(exept Civilisation, but thats different story). It would have been sweet in 2000 cause the lack of tecnology didnt allow us to have anything better than turn based, but this is 2012. Dont get me wrong, I like turnbased games, like Heroes 3 and the xcom series. Buuuut, I really think that the time for turnbased is passed. For the new Xcom to be successful it needs alot of originality, cause I dunno man, all the players ive seen(not the mad COD fans), they have grown out of turnbased(they dont even look at them anymore).
I just hope that the new X-com will have a chance to choose between turnbased and real time, like in Apocalypse(which is also my favorite 1 of the series), cause that would please every1, thou I doubt it from the pics you showed us.
Yeah… Pokemon and one million other turn based RPG types turned out to be a bust. Good post, guy.
YEAH BTCH!!! THIS IS HOW U DO XCOM !!!!!! FUCK THT OTHER FAKE FPS BULLSHIT INSULTING THIS TITLES NAME!!! FIRAXIS U R MY HERO THNK U!!!
Oh, man, questions questions.. I played XCOM ever since I was a little kids and I was on the lines of Spoony’s “betrayal” when the new game was announced to be an FPS, I really want to think of something that I want answers to..
Alright, so how about:
1. The original XCOM didn’t just have research into the military aspects of the aliens, but also a very rich database to talk about all the culture and biology that could be harvested from them, i.e. autopsies of all the life forms and breakthroughs of different sections of their ships which always looked very creepy the first time. Any chance this “bonus” material makes a return?
2. The gaming “parts”, geoscape, tactical, fighter scenes – do you have any plans to add more, or will these three once again be the only, but essential, gameplay moments? Will there be additions to what the mission is for example in tactical phases?
3. Everyone already knows the tech tree’s progress pretty much in the way of “bullets -> laser -> plasma” and “personal armour -> stronger -> flying” and also the psionic abilities that could be unlocked later – do you have any new innovations or is this just going to focus on making all that same old come back to us in a new package? Could you share some of these new techs with us firsthand?
4. There was a substantial horror-element to the first XCOM of wandering aimlessly and sometimes really having a shock of seeing a new life form without knowing what it could do, only to have it plant eggs up your ass and turning you into a zombie – do you intend to continue on this lineage or will you dumb the difficulty down for a more action-oriented experience?
5. I was always a bit baffled by attempts to make XCOM’s ambience more scary by just making more complicated soundtracks in its newer versions – less has always been more with the music in XCOM, at least to me. Are there people involved in the project who agree with this and want to bring back the original feel of having hardly any music during tactical to really create that ‘alone in the darkness’-feeling?
6. It’s a small thing, but the possibility to rename characters was a big favourite to a lot of gamers, and persisted on an emotional level. Any chance that this will stay on instead of falling to having any “main characters” ruin the atmosphere?
Oh, man, I feel like a total nerd for writing all this. Wait-I-have-one-more!
7. Some time ago, there existed a freeware project called “The Two Sides” which was trying to create a multiplayer versus to the original XCOM-format. This was unfortunately cease-and-desist’d, but the idea really had some potential and even felt natural and fun to play with a friend. There was something unique to actually feeling afraid of the XCOM-soldiers in the role of an alien. Is there any chance that beside a fluid campaign we could also have any multiplayer-experience? Even just a co-op possibility?
Whether any of these questions make it to Firaxis or not, thank you for the chance to vent some nerdgasms, Joe. I’ll be looking forward to the next Show.
also i was expecting this to be PC exclusive for some reason, just seems strategy games dont turn out well on consoles
Halo Wars was O.K. Supreme Commander 1 sucked bad on consoles. Supreme C2 was a complete sell out/disappointment, but still fun on the consoles. C&C3/Red Alert 3: Are an absolute blast to play! (even though RA3 has some story issues the game is still great). ENDWAR was boring. Lord of the Rings: BFME2 was an exceptionally good game. Tropico 3 and R.U.S.E are also pretty fun games. And if you want to go WAY back, I still have copies of Starcraft 64 and Red Alert for the PS1 (Both are excelent ports, just without the multiplayer)
Basically, out of the 11 games I listed, only about 2 are actually unenjoyable (SC1, ENDWAR), 2 are a mixed bag (Halo Wars, and SC2), and the rest are just plain fun.
I’d say this game has potential, but has a 1/4th chance of being bad.
I never played the old xcom games, but i have watched alot of it on Yogscast Live Stream and i for sure will be getting this new one when its released
