I remember playing Champions Return to Arms with my brother. When Diablo III came out, we were like “Awesome, an isometric hack-and-slash rpg by Blizzard,” the game is good, but not as good as Champions. For Champions, the menu is better for local Co-op, there are two story lines, and shitloads of classes.
Oh, shit, I found out Snowblind made Champions, not Blizzard.
This game made me lose my faith in humanity… Lol serous though I was not impressed wanna play D3 then play torchlight 2 instead much more like a Diablo game imo.
DO NOT BUY THE EXPANSION FOR DIABLO 3 UNTIL YOU ARE CERTAIN IT IS WORTH IT!
Do not preorder (any game ever actually) or buy this until you’ve seen at least 2 or 3 trustworthy, independant reviews. These are my experiences with Diablo 3 and they explain what is wrong with it and why you should keep your wallet closed until you’re absolutely sure it is worth it’s money.
To be honest I actually bought this game and regretted it very much. I was very biased by earlier blizzard titles which had never before dissappointed me so I bought it on their reputation alone and very little pre-existing information. These are the worst gripes that I had:
This game at launch was not as polished as you’d come to expect from blizzard. There were a HUGE amount of issues with the “always on” DRM system of needing to be online to be able to play a SINGLE PLAYER GAME. People weren’t able to play because of bugs or inadequate servers and the internet raged for more than a week. It is ridiculous and if I had known from the start this would be enough reason on it’s own to not buy this title.
The story in the game is highly predictable and even though the prerendered cutscenes are graphically impressive, the characters in this are so forgottable that I simply lost interest in the story very early in the game.
The Auction House and real money version of it were a not needed addition and in fact ruined the play experience because the in-game loot drops were heavily influenced by it. Essentially it means you hardly ever find any good items in game and that defeats much of the purpose of playing.
In addition, this game is far too easy. I’m a moderately experienced Diablo II player with no hardcore experience and I never died on my characters on ALL the difficulties except on Inferno difficulty on my Mage and so far my Barbarian hasn’t died at all.
This is coming from a player that had significant trouble in Diablo II Hell mode. Why would you not unlock all the difficulties at launch so you can choose and tailor your experience to what you feel like? (and while they’re at it, remove normal difficulty and start by making Nightmare the normal difficulty and upwards)
Nearly everyone I know bought this game expecting there to be a PVP option. They promised (multiple times) that it would be added, even prior to the game’s launch and so far it is STILL not in the game.
I cannot take back the money I spent on diablo, it severely damaged my trust and willingness to spend full price on any title since then. Buyer’s beware with the expansion coming so soon!
Oh yes and soon after I quit Activision they laid off about a thousand game testers. They moved the entire testing division to Canada to save money. Now the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US dollar. Which means by screwing Americans out of a thousand jobs to save a few dollars, now they are paying more money to pay their Canadian workers. Screw you Activision that’s what you get for being greedy scumbags.
I’ve been playing D3 for about a thousand hours now. I have paragon level 66 Wizard, 50 Barb, 45 Demon Hunter, 10 Witch Doc, and 15 Monk. And I have played D2 for about five thousand hours. So trust me when I say this D3 loot system is freakin rigged. I have picked up about 500 legendaries/set items and probably tens of thousands of rares (yellow items) and guess what? I have not found a single upgrade ever. I don’t understand how this is possible. Even by chance I should have found at least one upgrade right? You would think so but the system is rigged. Everything I wear was obtained through the auction house. Instead of killing monsters for gear this game has turned into playing the auction house. Which I have no problem doing because I excel at playing the AH. But back to my point. It shouldn’t be like this. What is the point of killing monsters and leveling if you can’t obtain better items by killing them? I have a feeling that the people who are selling nice items on Diablo 3 is Activision Inc making a killing by selling items for hundreds of dollars. Instead of making good games Blizzard now purchased by Activision only cares about making money. I have worked for Activision for two years and I know how these scumbags operate. Well that’s capitalism for ya. The game is still great but their rigged market system ruined it for me. As there is no incentive to play. Even by chance if you found over 10,000 rares you would expect that at least one of them would a nice upgrade. But not in Diablo 3. The people who run Activision are not gamers like you and me. They don’t understand anything about gaming. But they know how to rig the market and market their bs products to scam you out of your money. Look what they did to WoW. They started selling mounts for 20 bucks. And in Starcraft 2 instead of including the 3 campaigns for Protoss, Zerg, and Terran into one game, they decided to split the game into 2 additional expansions so they screw you out of an additional 100 bucks. Screw Activision. I am now boycotting their products. You should all do the same and vote with your dollars. Let the scumbags know they can go straight to hell by ruining a legendary game like Diablo 3.
Short, but Diablo serie never was long to begin with. I enjoyed it
disappointing game, and most guys who played it tru when it first came out, plus a few more months wait, is still a failure in my eyes… i will not buy the expansion unless they changed it to offline (so you can pretty much tell its not gonna happen LOL)
This game was such a huge disappointment that I still feel betrayed.
It’s just such a cash out that it makes me mad. Blizzard probably didn’t even bother to try and create something new. They just added some new ugly graphics (really, I think that even Dragon Age 2 is beautiful when compared) and every genre cliche they could find to deliver you this hot, steaming pile of competitive game play sh**.
At a full price, you’ll regret buying this game in a week.
I love the Diablo games, but I will have to wait for the price to drop to buy it.
By the way, wasn’t Joe going to do a review of this game? Where is it?
i think is for the misterious error 55 or something like that is fucking up alot of people
So far what I saw this is game is “meh” to me for the price range it is sold for. Diablo series had been awesome from the start, but they seemed to follow the similiar hack and slash trend, except with even worse effect now that they made friggin rocket ship out of what supposed to be single player videogame you cant play unless you have internet. So yes BUT temporary no until the price will go down.
Four little letters have ruined this game. R M A H.
If you play this game, do not go to the forums first. I played through normal. Game was decent.
Graphics remind me of Warcraft 3, but a Diablo skinned, tiny bit more polished WC3.
The random maps are random at first, then…you realize there are maybe three to five set ups to each area.
The classes are functional up until hell difficulty and then you realize, many things are simply broken about a few classes.
The loot system is horrid. I think I have found one actual upgrade and I have been playing since release. The legendary items are trash, with item budgets that make you scratch your head going wtf? And with the mass nerfing to how loot drops..drop..well this brings me to…
RMAH. Real money auction house. When you play the game, see how the game is set up, to make you fail. This game is rigged in such a way, that you are practically forced, to spend real money, on virtual items, simply to play the game. Before loot was nerfed to the ground i.e. the great breakable objects nerf, you did not really have a reason to use the ah. People farmed, just like in D2, got things, advertised, made gold on the GAH (gold auction house). But the two weeks leading up to the RMAH being released, should had sent up red flags. The breakable objects nerf, and the boss loot/gold revamp. All done to force people into the RMAH. Speculation is abound that Blizzard is stocking the RMAH with godly loot. And since the source of any item is hidden from the players, this could very well be the case.
Diablo 3 is simply a pay to win game with a diablo skin, milking the legacy of Blizzard North. Want D3? Go play Torchlight 2 or Path of Exile. ActiBlizzard made an auction house simulator with a diablo minigame attached.
Deckard Cain is killed by a Disney Fairy that shoots butterflies at him. I wish I was lying. After surviving D1, D2, and a comet of an Angel crashing down upon his head, falling four stories into a basement filled with angry skeletons, and warding off an ancient undead king. He is killed by tinkerbell. Yeah the story is fucking awful. Play with no sound, may help.
Blizzard needed the real life auction house in order to get rid of gold sellers in world of warcraft. And they succeeded 🙂
Joe really needs to review this game. There’s a huge battle going on between whether the game sucks or not. My opinion is that it rocks but many blizzard forums are very negitive about this game and even blizzard themselves say it’s really unhelpful negitive feedback. Since many players have different opinions, any would like to see “positive” feedback from joe. This is a game of great debait and i really hope he can enlighten us gamers as he has done before with, like with MVC3. Am i wrong?
why isnt joe going to review diablo 3?
good loot rolls being as low as they are kills the game for alot of people.
Joe will never review this game.
how would you know about that?
Isn’t this game already out?
i cant believe they messed up such a key aspect of the game, the loot.
it feels like they heavily applied their award losing formula of dumbing down the itemization as in WoW.
The process of deciding if you like an item goes something like: Does this item have Vitality and Int? if not, break it down. If it does, does it have more than what im wearing? If yes, equip it. If not, break it down.
Going from +10 Vit to +12 Vit just seemed to suit WoW a lot more. Even if i did hate the homogenization of stats, i could at least see it’s purpose in WoW with balance being one of the biggest issues in an MMO. But Diablo?? Getting radically cool items was what made you keep playing!
Blues typically being far superior to Legendaries also makes me scratch my head. It’ll be a big test of Blizzard to see if this is something they address.
I heard rumors that this was going to console at some point. Any one want to clarify this?
This game is a lot if fun to play, but still i have got some issues that i would like to discuss.
First what I like:
Much more visceral and dynamic + it is a a lot more easier to play ,at least in my opinion.
Much, much more randomized …
I have much more use of it for upgrading my blacksmith, my jeweler or buying some stuff in the AH, for witch I will speak later.
No more mules, yeah!!!!!
-4 player balanced coop
I wonder why there is so much negativity towards the limited coop in D3. First you have better understanding of what is going on. In D2 when there are 8 ppl in one server, 4 of whom are sorceresses and all of them cast blizzards and ice orbs … honestly… all you do is stand in the corner and watch the beauty of the spells, nothing else + difficulty did not raise from what I remember. Here you have a much better understanding of what is going on and you can contribute a lot better + monsters are stronger when there are more players in one game, witch does not break the challenge of the game.
In D2 you can make a character who is overpowered for his difficulty. Here you cannot. In Inferno everything is above your level so there is obviously much more challenge.
The thing i do not know what to think of …
On one hand I feel like I can experiment most of the time with different builds. On the other I still feel like I want to plan my builds like in D2, wandering what is better and what is not for my certain character.
On one hand I can make more in game gold and buy some gear for my character. On the other hand this gear can be game breaking at times + it can kill the idea of loot chasing in earlier difficulties
-Real Money Auction House
On one hand you can make money … yeey take that mom and dad telling me that I waste my time playing video games while i could make money in real life 😀 … + the problems with shady item dealers in D2 would be gone for good. On the other hand there could be ton of bots and hackers, who can kill the economy of this system.
The things I defiantly do not like
For a game that is single player most of the time it is stupid. Even though they fight piracy that way they could have thought of a different way to do so. I hope they will change this eventually, since there was so much negative backlash towards them.
-No Voice chat
I personally really hope they would patch this as well, since in later difficulties it is really good to coordinate with your teammates in order to make it, since difficulty level increases with more players in game.
-No PVP at launch
Man .. i honestly want to maximize my character only for the PVP, I do not find any other reason why I should do that otherwise. I really hope it comes soon and get balanced even sooner.
That is my personal opinion. For me, this game kicks ass, but needs to be patched witch all I mentioned as negative aspects of the game so it fully deserves its price.
Sry for my english if I have made a mistake.
Thanks for making your opinion here, I hadn’t trusted Machinima/IGN reviewers and such, for the chance they were paid, and from the community I heard a lot of mixed feelings and because of that I decided to wait for AJ’s review but since he never did one I was at a bit of a loss. And I doubt a random member of a small website was paid to post his review/opinion in a forum.
it sucks….i was soooo disapointed :/
Definitely will buy this one, Its DIABLO! silly! 🙂
It’s time to go back to Tristam to rid of the Prime Evils once and for all! Why I am going to buy this game? It is fun to loot stuff, And level up characters thats why, But there are Diablo clones that will be releasing also in the coming years like Path of Exile.. etc etc but Diablo 3 will stand out the dominant one. Can’t wait to get started playing as a Monk!
I’m not buying this game as a result of their policy of always being connected to play the SP. There are times when I’ll want to play but won’t have an internet connection. So, I’m penalized because I may not always have an internet connection? I don’t play MP, PVP or MMORPG/FPS for that reason. Requiring a constant internet connection is unfair. If I deploy overseas, I won’t be able to play for more than 6 months because I would be offline. That’s junk.
Yes… this game is horrid. At least from a fan point of view.
I’ve played the previous Diablo for 10 YEARS. With breaks in-between of course 😉
The problem with this game is, that it’s not a good sequel. Even if it will be a decent game, it isn’t made in the spirit of the previous titles! The Item_System… the Skill_system… the MOST IMPORTANT points of the game are unliked by fans.
There are other problematic points. For such a long developement, this game is bad on a technical level. I’m rather sure it will fail.
But if Joe hasn’t played the previous games, I’m not sure he can lay his finger in the important wounds (from a fan point of view)
I haven’t heard one good thing about this game besides it’s name… Lots of things I really don’t like though. Should be fine for people who never played a Diablo game before but as a fan I’m going to be giving this a pass.
I watched Conan the Barbarian last night( the new one, unfortunately Arnold is not in it) and it made me want to play this game.
