Disturbing Rumor: Prey 2 Possibly Cancelled!
There is a very disturbing rumor going around the net that Bethesda intends to cancel their upcoming sci-fi bounty hunting game, Prey 2. According to the Netherlands-based site PS Focus an unnamed source close to the situation said that Bethesda is planning to announce its intentions to cancel the game next week.
When contacted by videogamewriters, a Bethesda RP replied “We aren’t commenting on this story,” which doesn’t sound good. Game Informer points out how the development team was originally supposed to give talks at this years GDC, but they were cancelled weeks before the actual event.
We need to hope that the project has merely been delayed guys. I cannot stress to you enough how wrong this would be. I’ve seen this game in action at E3, it blew my socks off, its a game that ive been waiting for someone to try my whole life. It impressed the hell out of everyone else I’ve talked with who saw it. It was at the top of all of our lists of most anticipated or most surprising games.

First, Disney cancels Pirates of The Caribbean: Armada of the Damned, (the second best game you’ll never play, the first being Babylon 5 by Sierra) now this? No. NO!
This better not be fuggin’ true. I will mobilize the Angry Army to save this game. I’d even see if we cant get approval from Bethesda for a kickstarter or some kind of Preorder campaign, if Tim Schafer can get 3 million for an simple adventure game, why cant we get 100,000 signatures or pre-order commits for possibly the best game never released.
Bet your ass I’m going to keep an eye on this one. Let’s report back when Bethesda gives the official statement next week.

Wow, there is almost as much of an uproar here as in the Gamespot forums.
I was really excited for this game, and still am IF it gets canceled… but, if like Sleeping Dogs (Or True Crimes Hong Kong), it just goes to show that not EVERYTHING stays dead forever.

i can’t beleive this, rumors of an elder scrolls MMO? (bad idea already) rumors of shutting down prey 2?
you’d think after the results of skyrim they’d realize this is what we want, not some disasterous MMO.
I heard they are making a SKYRIM MMO, maybe that’s why they “cancelled” it?
What the hell, Bethesda? You keeping royalties for New Vegas over semantics makes me afraid what will happen next, but I’m eager and willing to throw down a pre-order for Prey 2. You have my word. (…And my bow…And my axe…etc)

Very sudden news, last I heard the game was fairly near completion so not sure why they wouldn’t just bite the bullet, release it as is and get some money out of it rather than cut their losses completely. Shame too, looked great in trailers.
Yeah, I saw heard this rumor a couple days ago. Really not happy about it. This is one of the games I was really looking forward to. Please don’t let it be true.

Count me in for a petition or Preorder Campaign. Although I didn’t played the first game, this one looks sweet. And looked like one of the best games.
Well, if it is cancelled, we can blame 2 crap games, RAGE and Brink for making Bethesda scared of FPS games. That being said, I really hope that this remains a rumor, I am really excited for Prey 2.

I have to say they couldve made Tommy the main character, or at least made him more important I dont get the same feelingas the first fear from the trailer, they could just call it something different, and since its bethesda I have high hopes for this game, the world looks like deus ex, with a good few new things added in.

I totally forgot about this one. Great concept about not slowing the player down. I hate it in games, especially FEAR 2, when the player is so slow that moving from cover to cover is useless. You’re simply staying behind this closest cover and waiting your enemys to come right under your sight…
Wonder why Bethesda would cancel Prey 2 if its mechanics looks flawless. Maby they’ll make it a totally new IP, not a sequel?

The difference is Tim Schafer is an industry legend doing a fan funded game for gamers first, making profit comes later. That is what Kickstarter is all about.
Bethesda is a profit driven company and Human Head only has Rune and Prey to their name and most people don’t probably even remember Rune.
That leaves them with Prey which isn’t all that much to be honest.
and BTW I would preorder it if that would mean bringing this game to life

Here’s hoping this is just a delay, I’d love to see this game made. This is an amazing premise and the gameplay seems fluid and well-made.

NO! I will not allow this game to be cancelled! We have to let our voices be hear, we want this game!
I want to see the game get made too but cmon guys, “unfair?” Invotative?” You keep throwing out “wet” and “brink” but how do you know this game isn’t as bad? No don’t give me that “I saw it” shit, we all saw trailers for brink and Wet thinking they would be awesome. Fact is, it could be a broken game and we would have no way of knowing until we play it.
Now if it’s released and it does turn out to be bad, how many of you will take responsibility for pushing for it’s release? Most will probably accuse Bethesda of altering the game, making it bad on purpose just to prove a point. I hate to say it, but we all know it’s true.
If you want to see a game like this made that badly, get a team together and make it yourself. If you are all so prepared to throw your money at a pre order thing, why not just throw that same money at a fan made project? Why not make something yourselves instead of bitching and moaning every time a company doesn’t make what you want them too.

if it ends up being bad? So be it…at least they tried. If we don’t have people who try we won’t get any further in the industry. It’s always a gamble, with every game that ever comes out.
This isn’t about “trying” when you have jobs and a large sum of cash on the line. If they know the game is buggy, or just plain broken why release it just because fans that have never seen the actual game demand it’s release?
Stop making this out to be a “go for the gold” situation, a broken game is a broken game.
The problem is you can’t see this from their perspective, “If it’s bad, so what? At least they tried.” may work for you, but it’s not “so what” when they release a game that completely bombs. They have workers that depend on them to remain a stable company so they can receive a paycheck every week. They have other projects they have to manage. This isn’t as simple as you are making it out to be, some kind of field day long jump situation where you just need to “try real hard and believe in yourself”

I watched the video coverage on this title, and it looks like it was gonna be even better than the (rather disappointing) first game. It looks really interesting to me, and I was looking forward to it.
I pray it’s just a delay, I could live with that, so long as it dosen’t suffer the same fate as the original Prey and DNF…. we saw how those turned out.
I wasn’t planning on getting this game right away, but if the order goes out I will gladly pre-order it and try to get my friends too as well.
And also, Bethesda, don’t cancel this…besides Fallout and Elder Scrolls, you CANNOT produce good games. Wet was decent at best, but if you should have cancelled any game, it should have been that FPS abortion Brink.

This is wrong. You can’t show a game at E3 and later decide ‘OH, LETS NOT MAKE IT.’ It’s unfair.
God Rogue Warrior was SO bad.
They better not be canceling Prey 2… Maybe the announcement will be something harmless like a name change or a year+ delay for polish reasons?

Seems like any game that wants to be different and outside of the norm for gaming is becoming more and more rare with publishers canceling (or changing) any game that MIGHT not sell as well because it isn’t some generic 1st/ 3rd person shooter. You know just today Capcom made a statement that said RE6 needed to be more action-y and “evolve from its survival-horror roots” This is just sad. Although hope isn’t lost with creators like Tim Schafer and Ken Levine making games that are a shinning beacon of hope in a pool of stagnant, generic games
I wasn’t gonna come back to the site,after having proof I donated,but not being able to contact you bought the emblem or w/e for donators,but this isn’t right.To many games,that have no right to even be called games,are sold,and hyped up,they last 4-6 hours and Multiplayer is a small comeback,then your left with 70$ junk your bored of and will only get 20$ for it back.This looked like a game that would break that mold!Get a Petition Joe!

Even though it’s a complete departure from the first game, I would still love to play this game!! They spent a lot of money on the advertising, they couldn’t kill it now.. Could they?!?!
