Since I have ME2, and 99% is good, Of course I would buy it. Just don’t have money to buy. It’s the first game I’m gunning for once get a job again.
I was one of the unfortunate masses (no pun intended) who pre-ordered this game waaaaaaaaay ahead of time. Picked it up at the local Game Stop and played it straight through. Yes my eyes were completely dried out and I was somewhat comotose but still… Upon seeing the first of the “six endings” my first comment was “They serriously just pulled a Monty Python?” Meaning the great artistic thinkers and creators at EA had the collective creative epiphany “I can’t think of a good ending so lets just have everyone arrested or blown up.” …bastards. And what is worse with that last press release they basicly admitted it and had the gonads to, granted not in these exact words, say to everyone of us “suck it” … bastards. You know they pushed this release back so many times and honestly this game was so sub-standard for what we have all come to expect from EA, Bioware and specificly the Mass Effect franchise, that I really don’t even care what downloadable content they release. I’m done, I honestly feel taken.

So I just picked up Mass Effect 2 I loved Dragon Age, SW KotORs and The Old Republic. As you can see I really like Bioware they make quality games I know it’s reversed but I love ME2 so much I’m thinkin of grabbin 1 and playin through both, cuz I want the full story. So thanks for the review I know that now I should get the full series so thanks so much keep up the reviews and makin me laugh Cya later.
I know others must have said this but seriously, the ending is a complete rip-off of Deus Ex, way to go in the creativity department Bio Ware
and in Deus Ex it was far more relevant and better than this re-skinned mass effect one

ive almost beaten the game just saw this review. come’on the ending cant be that bad. *15 minites later* HOLY CRAP!! that was awful.
its sad that realistically your choices don’t matter, for example lets say you kill the rachni in the first game, they appear in the third game no matter what. If all of your characters die in the suicide mission guess what they have place fillers, mordin,legion and tali all have place fillers, grunt as well if I remember correctly. gotta say its annoying.
well actually ur choices do matter.
If u don’t meet the saved rachni queen from ME1 in ME3, and u ask her to help, she will ally herself to u for a while and then after a couple of missions she will flee the crucible and rejoin the reapers.
If u Grunt or Wrex were dead, u get less assets from the krogan forces (not just the separate assets for Grunt & Wrex, but also for all Krogan forces, due to the civil war). Also if Wrex and/or Mordin are not alive in ME3, then there’s a big chance that Eve will die and u can’t complete the cure. Also, even if u get the cure, there’s a chance that Mordin’s replacement can’t fix the Shroud’s sabotaged controls.
If Legion and/or Tali are not alive during Rannoch, u can’t unite the Geth and Quarians together (or u can but they’ll both suffer heavy losses). Your persuasion when addressing the fleet will fail and whichever side joins u will be at reduced strength due to the hits they’ve taken.
There’s a lot of other stuff as well, such as if you lost Morinth then u lose a lot of the potential Asari assets, if you lose Jack and Legion, then u have to face their clones during the Cerberus HQ attack, if u lose Thane, then the Salarian councilor dies in ME3 when attacked by Kai Leng.
There’s a lot more stuff like that.
So, yeah u get fillers for those who are dead, but u get a lot less war assets. Plus, u need those fillers to get the plot going. It’d be very hard for Bioware to develop completely different alternate plotlines in case you lost certain crew members in ME2.
Loved the review, but I can’t help thinking that if I was that angry about the ending and game mechanics, I wouldn’t have given it 8/10.
I think I’ll buy it when it’s available on Steam for $10. Oh wait…
It’s not necessarily a bad game, it’s just lacks the satisfaction that you would expect.

ooh wow…i just finished the Deus Ex from 2000 and by god the ending choices to that really are mirror images of Mass Effect 3′s ending choices xD

Good Review Joe as always I know your more into games these days but can you this summer mix in some more movie reviews sometimes I find those more funnier to watch than your game reviews that does not mean I hate them because if I did I would not still be following you on youtube all this stime since back in 2010 that was when I remembered I subscribed to you. anyway good review of Mass Effect 3 I have not played it yet but will soon.

Joe first I would like to thank you for the hardball approach you take and the honest heartache that true fans have at the end of the game. With all the plot holes you mention on top of the side quest systems (I actually thought I was the only one who was troubled by this) While I do appreciate that bio-ware might have sought an ending to leave things to the imagination, but I do believe they got it wrong especially with the closure with the characters. I actually chuckled when I heard Freddie was playing a Hispanic. All these things aside it hurts me that in the end the $80 I spend felt like a night spent in a stripper joint empty and fruitless. In the end I think the fan base is let down everyone I ask says they are dissatisfied and the fact that we are being down played and seen as minority is saddening. I do believe that this could quite be the last bio-ware game I buy. And again Thanks for having the balls to voice what we all were thinking.
I hope bioware truly listens to the REAL fans and goes with the indoctrination theory, as for everyone else who thinks the endings are fine the way they are, then dont be standing next to us later saying “I did hate the endings….i swear”.

The industry is changing, folks. DLC was a good intention but, predictably, it is starting to be abused. I could see this whole ending fiasco as being a calculated publicity stunt.
I ended up buying ME3, as I love the series too much to pass it up, but I won’t be supporting bullshit practices like this in the future. ME3 is probably the last EA/Bioware game I will buy unless this changes.
Keep up the honest reviews, Joe. Don’t let anyone discourage you.

Love the game hate the not so true ending ….but I am however excited for this dlc witch im hoping is free.. but EAs big money dick is gunna bang us all in the ass… Just so we can see the real ending… My verdict on the franchise is its amazing!

Thank you for this correct, honest review. I must agree with you in general. I’d like to share with you what bothered me the most in the game.
First the lack of conversation options. WTF??? In most cases I have 2 options!!! Shepard talks too much automatically without the players intervention. That’s bad! It’s the first sign. My choices don’t matter anything in the game. For example: Rachni. They promised that keeping the Rachni alive will have “huge consequences” in the game. Hehe, I killed that annoying bug in ME. Good for me! Too bad! Because the Reapers just resurrected another one. WTF??? An the most important choice in the second game (the collector base’s fate) is a complete joke. It means nothing!!! WTF???
And side missions? Fetch quests man! and the N7 missions are the worst in this game. I’m running around on a crappy multiplayer area occasionally killing people, and hacking some computer, then the mission is over. What happened with the awesome side missions of the second game? (MSV Estevanico, malfunctioning VI in Hanhe-Kader facility, mercenary bands, mechs, or stopping a Batarian terrorist group before they blow up a human colony?etc)
Tali’s face reveal is ridiculous. Nothing can justify this!
All of this led me to believe that this game is nothing more than a cash cow for EA and Bioware. This game is rushed, they entirely forgot all the good things what made the second game awesome and they threw those out of the window. I mean we can’t even talk one single npc on the god damn citadel. I really enjoyed talking with the shop owners in the second game, the discounts, the little quest with the quarian girl who was harrased by an annoying volus, or the Krogan who wanted to eat some fish from the Presidium lake, etc. And oh you can’t do something like those because there is a war going on. But admit it it’s just a cheap excuse. But! Shep has time to go search for some artifact or book, or bible or some useless junk somewhere in the galaxy for someone who doesn’t even asked for his help to find that worthless junk.
Bioware really screwed this up. Of course they gave us a crappy multiplayer, kinect control, but nobody asked for those.
And the ending. I don’t want to talk about it. It made me sick. For days!!!
Despite all of this, the game has some good moments. And it’s still a decent game, but nowhere near as good as the first or the second one.

To the Mass Effect 3 Review:
U hit the nail on the head, agree with you in most points. What i want to share is my impression of the lacking dialogue system. I feel robbed in conversations. I feel like Shepard acts automatically once given the direction. Compared to ME2 (especially to ME) the dialogues feel less interactive, less vivid.
Another point that boths me are the decisions. Whateve u did in the last 2 games is irellevant not only at the ending but through the whole game.

Destiny Assention destroyed?- no difference in Final Space Fight
Saved or destroyed Geth?- doesnt matter, still fighting Geth
I played the game with 3 different ME, ME 2 save files, only a few things besides the WAr assets changed.
Cant wait for Biowares awesome DLCs for a better Ending, Plot Conclusion, Special Forces Shooter Spin offs *sarcasm off*
i did not know where exactly to post this as there are so many ME3 posts and topics but I have always wondered why it was called Mass Effect I mean i understand Mass effect is the technology used in almost everything in the game but that didn’t sit right with me on a good reason to name the game that way. than it hit me, I hope it is a clever way of saying cooperation, or revolution, you know playing on how much a mass of people working together towards one common cause can have a great effect ie Mass effect!!! They showed it and did it really well in ME 2 and kinda tried it in ME 3 but as we all know it fell flat. I hope they redeem themselves and like joe says I wanna see all the ending sequences for ALL my past characters and we should get some scenes for all the war assets we set about gathering. I wanna see the Mass Effect: Resolution. I claim that title but Bioware you can use it if you like;-) Please resolve most of the questions and can we put the characters to bed besides just Joker and Edi psst that isn’t even a resolution. I liked Edi and I wanna see how the Geth and other AI develop in the univers how they will struggle to be accepted, might make for a good sequel.
You know, I barely ever agree with Joe when it comes to games (different tastes and all that), but this review nailed it for me. Just about every point I would have made is present here.
Because of a faulty harddrive I had to play through ME1 & 2 again right before ME3, so having played all three games back-to-back there were some baffling design choices in 3 that I don’t get at all, the bizarre quest tracking being the most prominent one.
Now, as said in the review, ME3 is still a fantastic game, but these little things niggle at your heels through pretty much the entire thing. I have failed three quest over the course of the game because of that.
Making multiplayer mandatory to get the “best” ending (it hurt to even write that) was also a decision I just don’t get. If you must have multiplayer in your game, fine, but don’t make it affect singleplayer. That would be stupid.
Cortez, the gay shuttlepilot, and the other support crew were actually each way more compelling then knucklehead Vega, sexbot EDI (what were they thinking?) and the unbearable smug jerk Javik combined. I’d be willing willing to cut Vega some slack in any other game, but having to compete with people like Garrus or Wrex is a tall order.
Diana Allers just wierded me out, to be honest.
Let’s not talk about endings or day one DLC here…

When it comes down to it, the only bad things about the game are A.) the ending although right now there is talk about a DLC to fix that and damn it there better be and B.) the multiplayer but that’s a matter of opinion and I don’t really find a problem with it.

I don’t understand why people are pissed with Tali-face. What could they do exactly? Make another species? It would have to be a human with glowy-eyes. In most shots, she has glowy eyes…. did you expect a whole other race like the hanar? I mean, the Turians/Asaari/Salarians are humans with wigs. The volus are like balloons, the Hanar as jellyfish, and Elcor…. well I think that they are elephants.

don’t buy it. save yourself. I’ve played ME1 and2 about 12 times, each. I traded all three in the next day after the ending of ME3.

Finally, FINALLY a review that tells it like it is. Where were all the critics when the ME3 came out? In Biowares back pocket, well at least we know Jessica Chabot was. Thank you Joe, this was an exceptional vid you laid on us.

Hey Joe, check out the recently released episode of Extra Creditz, they argue about the Day one DLC in a way that made me understand the industry, you see Joe, the reason we have Day one DLC is because the game has to be called complete about 6 weeks before it could be sold, then has to be tested, in that time the company has time to add to the story or such, with DLC like that, and thats why we have it. They did however didn’t like adding DLC to figures and such, thats annoying
The content dlc you are referring to was stated by bioware in statement recently that it was to originally be part of the game but due to worries from the team to finish it off for the original release date in late 2011 it was to cut and decided to release it in march 2012. Since the game was postponed and released in march of 2012 that means the dlc and the game were still released at the same time as the original plan. BIoware/EA just decided to cash in as they new fans would eat it up as the so called last of the trilogy and the fact that it contained a prothean. Cash grab from the companies involved pure and simple.
I think Mass Effect 3 takes the cake for being the most disappointing game I have ever played. I had really high hopes for it, I bought it and the DLC. I have not managed to feel this duped for quite some time. Honestly though Joe I think you rated it a bit high.
In my opinion it felt rushed, with less dialog, romances, especially with character from the second game are pretty much non existent. The romance with the homosexual character felt really forced, like it took priority over other romances that may have been in place already. I’ve seen Jack twice so far with nothing really meaningful happening. If they wanted to place him it probably ought to have been in the second game so the romance wouldn’t feel so forced or ham handed.
All in all Mass Effect 3 feels a lot like Dragon Age 2…but worse. Rushed, underdeveloped, less compelling… maybe a five out ten. Now that the blinding fury I felt from the awfulness of it all has worn off.
