Uh, Oh. Mass Effect DLC on Disc. Seriously, Bioware?
Uh, oh. This is something you’ve got to see. If true, I want answers.
Now, some of you think I gave Bioware a pass on its day 1 DLC, but gave Capcom shit for its DLC practices; this is not true. I specifically stated day 1 DLC is dangerous, especially if it’s content you must pay for on top of the $60. In effect, you would have to pay a total of $70 if you don’t want an empty area on your ship and if you want to experience the full story behind the Protheans—something that could have easily been in the retail version.
I even stated in my Fartin’ Around: Happy Action Theater video that the From Ashes DLC is not worth it. You are essentially getting thirty minutes of mission and maybe 3-4 conversation cut-scenes with the extra character for $10. No, thanks.
If the above is true, that makes this even worse and something I’m going to have to revise my current in-production Mass Effect 3 review with. Seriously, Bioware? Did you not think anyone would check? What the f*ck is this sh*t!? I’m telling you, this practice of already on the disc DLC is WRONG!
lljkceski even gives instructions on how to do so:
1. Open Coalesced.bin with this http://wenchy.net/me3-coalesced-utility
2. Search for this:
MemberValidCID=22, MemberAvailablePlotLabel=IsSelectableProthean,
3. Replace with this:
MemberValidCID=, MemberAvailablePlotLabel=,
That’s it. Javik the Prothean is now unlocked. “From Ashes” not required.” -lljkceski
What do you guys think? Should this effect the overall score? Or should the score of the game be unaffected and instead this be discussed as an aside?
I’m not going to accept the company line “We have already made a statement on the matter,” especially in light of new evidence. If I go to E3, I’ll try to get a statement in an interview as I’m sure any email to Bioware will be met with the same BS non-response.
*Update: I remember downloading the From Ashes DLC on my Xbox at 650mb. So thats got to be some sort of real content download. The video above applies to the PC Version.
*Update #2: PC players are reporting the download was similar in size. Perhaps this poster has it all wrong. If its a download of that size you couldnt possibly unlock the character and have everything working just fine.
Big Thanks to all of you who sent me this and to lljkceski for the well produced video!

Today we go war with biewere……
Originally i didn’t care that much about day 1 dlc but after seeing this… WHAT THE FUCKING ACTUAL FUCK OF ALL THAT IS FUCKING FUCKED IS THIS FUCKING FUCK OF A FUCKIN FUCKERS FUCKITY FUCKING FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (yeah, i used caps lock and swore- i do know what i’m talking about.)
I think the character was on the disc but the full mission wasn’t.
In any case, I did like Javik and when you play Thessia with Javik it totally changes the mission. It was worth it just for that but I got the CE so…
So Bioware can lie and get away with it…wonderful news indeed to gamers.
The same can be done with burnout paradise cars availaible as dlc… Throught patching burnout paradise. you get all the cars but they are unavailiable. just find the right line of code and change the False to True….
EA make me sick. You actually download the cars for free but you have to pay to use them.
how the hell did you do that? and send me the instruction
u need a little program called Coalesced Utility for ME3. Just search for it in Google. It was created by Gibbed.
You then open the Coalesced file with that program (just open the program and load the file in it using the browse button).
then follow the instructions listed in the video’s description.
It works 100% with the original game, I’ve tried it.
Now though, I just downloaded the SKIDROW pirated version of the game and it’s included, along with all the extra content from the Collector’s edition, like the armors and the robo-dog.
The content on the disc is the actual squadmate, all of his conversations and the data for his powers, the DLC is the mission to unlock him, and an assault rifle you get in the mission.
This is bullshit. It’s especially painful to me bio – fan, to be fu@##ked like that. Not to mention upcoming DLC The Truth or whatever you call it. First i am served with disastrous ending in ME3, less content then in ME2, less and flat characters; then it turns out, the prothean was all along on the disc…….. fu%^&k. While originally i agreed with joe that all the sh$%$t around ME3 should’t affect the game score i now must say enough. Online pass, 1 day DLC which is not a DLC because it’s ALREADY there, fu&^*&ed up ending, useless multiplayer, upcoming DLC (effect of listening to the voice of gamers – yeah, sureeeeee – more like failure in a new way of sucking the money out of my pocket), no real weapon customization…. Let’s face it Joe 7/10.
My guess is that while the character is included, the mission itself isn’t, or at least that’s the best reason I could come up with.
i am just disgusted with the fact that there is DLC on day one, I mean I buy the FULL game. if something is added to the game say a month later to add to the game that is acceptable DLC. Making DLC at the same time as the real game is just showing your looking for more cash. I pay 60 bucks for the game on release day then another what 10 bucks or something for additional content so I spent $70 dollars for the game!!!! Looks like price hiking to me. As stated before and how I have always viewed DLC it should be an addition to a good game not a part of a good game. If a gem is good enough then DLC is a good way to keep the fanbase happy until you can either make a sequal or find another game just as good. I am worried about how DLC is being approached it seems it is being used to milk more cash out of consumers.
