WTF?! Street Fighter x Tekken Angry Rant!
WTF? Capcom. Seriously? Shoryuken has discovered that there are 12 Embedded DLC Characters on the Disc for both the Xbox and Playstation 3. Also, the Xbox version is unable to go online with 2 local players for tag team despite the manual stating specifically that it can.
*Note* Mega-Man and Pac-Man who are advertised as PS3 & Vita exclusive are on the Xbox 360 disc. Now, Capcom says that PS3 owners will get this free, while Xbox 360 owners will need to pay. (For content that is already on their disc).
*Note 2* When asked about the No Local Online Co-op for Xbox, Capcom Posted this Response:
360 version: It is NOT possible to mix and match online and offline players for scramble battles and pair play battles. So you either have to have all players be offline and local (so 4 players, 1 xbox) or have all the players be online (4 players, 4 xboxs).
The reason for this difference is because of the architecture differences between gamertags and PSN IDs. I’m not sure of the technical details, but basically it amounts to: Sony made it so you can mix and match online and offline, and Microsoft made it so you can’t.” -Christian Svensson
But then how is this possible for Mortal Kombat? In which you can do exactly that. Is this a Lie from Capcom? A money saving issue? Exclusive Sony Deal? or Microsoft’s Fault? I’ll try to get a straight answer if I ever get to speak with them again.

WTF!!!! I will never buy a new capcom game again. I’m just going to wait for used copies so they won’t see a single penny from me.
[...] More on this: http://angryjoeshow.com/2012/03/wtf-sf-x-tekken-angry-rant/ [...]
I won’t buy capcom game anymore don’t care if there good games capcom actions are bullshit enough said.
Actually, the content on disk has a very special reason… I found out about this particular thing from the group who made Monday Night Combat… You remember their free DLC? It had to be a certain size, because developers have a certain amount of room to release patches and DLC without Microsoft charging them… That’s right, putting the whole thing on the disk allows them to use that FREE upload space to make money… It’s more than just ripping off us, it’s ripping off Microsoft. Capcom used to have my respect, but every time I see a DLC with 108kb of space it pisses me off.
Not that I want to be particularly quick to leap to the defence of Corporate Commander here, but…
I have a feeling that it’s to do with restrictions on Online Play, and I would be very surprised to discover that Mortal Kombat wasn’t doing the same thing with their DLC. If the DLC characters were left off the disc completely, then your console would have no way to use those characters in the game. Fine for single player, but when you get into multiplayer, and player 1 wants to use a DLC character that player 2 doesn’t have, player 2 would have no way to see the character or what was going on in the game – if it ran at all; more likely it would crash. So with fighting games at least, I would guess that it’s common practice to include at least the code, graphics and sound for the planned DLC on the disk, and all the DLC does is unlock them.
The reason I suspect this, by the way, is because I haven’t got any DLC characters for Mortal Kombat, but the DLC characters work fine when someone tries to use them against me. I could be wrong about this; I guess it’s possible for the other Xbox 360 to stream the data for the character onto my 360 for as long as the match lasts, but I would have thought that would cause a massive slow-down in the game that I just haven’t seen yet – not exclusive to DLC anyway.
It sounds mad, but I’ve seen the alternative and it is far worse: WWE 12. How that game works is that if you don’t have the EXACT SAME DLC as the person you are trying to play against, you can’t access a match because of ‘compatibility issues.’ I spend more time on that game looking around for people with the same compatibility than I do playing the game.
It’s because they had a compatibility patch for the DLC in Mortal Kombat. None of the characters were found on disc.
Can you tell us more about this? I’d care to find out some additional information.
Got it for free
im glad i didnt buy it
i don’t like that capcom does what we tell them we don’t like but i do like in my opinion the DLC on disc sure id rather have it to start with ya who wouldn’t right? but the fact its on the disc rather then a true DLC means we download a code to use it instead of say taking up 150 MB im guessing the code to use the content is vary small in size so i like it to a degree keep in mind this is a guy that filled hes xbox in a week im always deleting stuff for room so id like it if this method of DLC saved me alot of room at anyone time i have like 10 mb so….
fuck that this games is bad the fighting is fun my cuz let me use it i what ed to brakit its sad it loo coo and plus mega man is fater then fatbasterd on wizan in asura o.k maybe i just made that up but the game sucks ass i hope the make a better one
You know what? I was a diehard fan of Capcom. I hate what they are like today.
I wish they would learn from most of their mistakes and stop f**king lying to the faces of their fans these days. I swear, their fanbase must be lowered from tons to “tens”…Why Capcom? Seriously What the hell happened?
thats what you get for buying a xbox
wtf are you talking about
Just to let everyone know in case they didn’t, Capcom made another big mess of a problem that has been covered up extensively. If you notice in the video, Mega-Man is fat, old, and retardedly slow. If you hadn’t already found out, the original Mega-Man game developer and designer quit Capcom because of the “DLC” issue, so they created a character over the ever famous creation of his, and made him fat, and decrepit to mock one of their longest serving employees! Way to f&*@ing go, Capcom…..
Personally, I was mostly done with Capcom after I bought Streetfighter 4, and not a month later they released Super Streetfighter 4 with twice the cast, and for another fifty dollars. Unless I see a Darkstalkers 4 on the horizon, I’m done.
Buy all capcom games used so that capcom doesn’t see a dime from the sales
look I say this one I recommend that no nobody buys their games they just suck wanna buy a game get blazeblue or kof their good fighting games not this crap if you do buy a crapcom game get ssf4 cause that’s their only good one
I want Cashcom to prove that they would charge more for a fully unlocked disc, and possibily have that option, just to show that they will charge more for that.
Have an ultimate edition out of the bat that not everyone needs, but will be 80$
Then do REALLY downloadable dlc.

Why did you not talk about EULA contracts?
http://www.nahmiaslaw.com/?p=169
When you purchase a game you don’t acquire ownership of anything. You’re purchasing a [em]license[/em] that lets you [em]use[/em] a piece of software [em]that someone else owns[/em]. The fact that there can be locked content on a disk is totaly irrelevent, the role of the disk is to act as a medium of transmission so that you may have [em]access[/em] to the thing that the license refers to. If you “owned” a game after you bought it, then one person would buy a game and own the IP and everything else and there would be no “industry” to speak of.
So It literally means: “We can rape you legally”.
Just common sense: You’re buying the right to play a complete game, not pieces or just a part of it.
If people continue supporting this kind of practices by buying this kind of games, this loop of crap is not going to end. As simple as that.
CAPCOM are turning into the next EA
I think Capcom is suffering. Like they are trying to be like “We are better than Midway” which did close down. Now, they are trying to compete with Netherelms’ MK which is winning badly. MK has like “super MK”-esk game, but all DLC are free! but Capcom does a “super” instead of DLC, its messing themselves up.
This is something you could sue them over. If you paid for the disk everything that is on that disk becomes your property so long as you do not attempt to resell the product AND claim that content as your own original idea. More power to anyone who hacks the game and unlocks the characters. They did this with Mass Effect 3 as well. Recently the from ashes DLC was discovered in its complete form on the mass effect 3 disc along with all of the bonus content (weapons and the like.). If we want to fight this we should hack the game and not buy dlc that are already on our discs.
ARE U SERIOUS!? I PAID FOR THAT FROM ASHES CRAP!! DAMIT HOW COULD I GET SCREWED OVER BY ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAME COMPANIES! WAS THIS ANOTHER ORDER FROM EA? THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL!!
until they give me those “extra” characters for free, I’m not going to buy it
its so sad! :”(
Oh yeah dont forget that they only gave the ps3 exclusive characters. While Mortal Kombat did basically the same thing which I think its a load of bull
Yeah but thats because kratos is licensed to sony
And by the way its just one character
And in mk the characters are real dlc because you download em,they are in the FUCKING DISK
in sfxt they are on the disk
in MK you download em
Watch, 2 months later there’s going to be an ULTIMATE SUPER STREET FIGHTER X TEKKEN JUST FOR 40 BUCKS.
F*ck Capcom, EA and anyone else who treats their loyal customers like this. I say we boycott their games entirely to make our point clear. They want to abuse our trust and grab at our cash? Let’s give them a fight for it.
It won’t work for EA, cuz there will always be idiots who go out and buy a new Madden game year after year after year, even though its really just the same DAM GAME CARRIED OVER FROM LAST YEAR! But yes EA and Capcom need to get really hurt somehow.
This is retarded.
DLC exists so that game devs can continue to “support” their games and get extra monex out of it, after the game has been released, because else the devs would have nothing to do/would have to make a new game.
if its on the disk, or EVEN IN DEVELOPMENT BEFORE RELEASE IT SHOULD BE F*CKING FREE!
that’s why i refuse to pay for this bullsh*t.
The worst part is, the 30-Bucks-platinum versions always come with all DLC included, so all they make me do is skip the full price versions and buy the cheaper all-inclusive versions a year later. (did it with ME2)
Why should i pay 100+ all inclusive, when its only 30 bucks a year later?
DLC ruined the gaming industry, whoever invented it should get f*cking pwnd in the face.
absolutely Anubi, I like how DLC makes a game more enjoyable but when your paying for something on the disc(Gears of war) or piece of shit maps that come out a month after the games release(modern warfare) its garbage these companies are getting ridiculous. half assing their $60 games and saying oh we’ll finish it and charge $30 for a total of $100 w/ tax freakin dollars!!!! ARGG PISSES ME OFF!!!!!
is it just me or are 2d fighting game developers getting extremely lazy, soul caliber should have had a weapon master mode, best way to play soul caliber 2\3 but i still love the franchise and want more out of them, as for cashcom why dont more people free load off this stuff, after seeing what bioware did with ME3 i felt the least amount of guilt downloading the mass effect series illegally, therefore not contributing to the company at all, id do the same thing on Vita or Xbox to cashcom eaither downloading the game and DLC or buying the game and hacking into the DLC
Capcom does this because they know that their fans, for all their complaints and threats, will buy their games anyway. As Joe said; If the fans want Capcom to stop treating them this way, they need to stop buying these games and stop encouraging this behaviour. Its good to see that Capcom is finally being revealed for what it really is, but action is required, not just words.
Buying the games cheap will make no difference, since Capcom sells their merchandise directly to stores (such as GameStop or Amazon) at a fixed price, which are then sold by the store to its customers. So Capcom will have already received a previously agreed payment for the game from the store BEFORE you have bought it.
HOWEVER, if you stop buying the game altogether, or buy it second-hand, then the stores will no longer be willing to buy these games off Capcom, because they know they won’t be able to sell them on.
And I’d like to add my humble Angry Joe Army salute to those brave gamers who laid down their accounts in the name of industry ethics.
I don’t really care is the content is already on the disc if the developers come out and say that it is. When Gears 3 came out all of those weapon skins that you had to pay for came on the disc but Epic strait out said that was in the begging. With Capcom they don’t say anything. I’m ok with dlc already being on the disc as long as the developers admit that that’s what there doing.
I agree with you there but the difference with GOW3 and this is that the weapon skins were just skins and didn’t change the game at all while SFXT offers characters that change the way you play
Boycott on companies that does this practice
Honestly, I just didn’t buy it, and I truly refuse to. Because there is no way to justify what Capcom did.
I would say we should just boycott this DLC and other companys DLC that does this practice im fine with DLC after launch im not fine when its already on the disc though
awesome joe you just told capcom i hope they heard the whole thing and actually payed attention or at least their “kids”.
Ok so here’s my issue with this whole ordeal and why I really can’t stand Capcom anymore, when i see the who “Disc Locked Content” BS i keep thinking to myself, “What the hell happened to the days when you could just fight through the Arcade more or W/E and UNLOCK characters?” and I really can only bring myself to one conclusion, and it’s not “Oh the economy is just shit right now so they need the extra money.” Eff that! I made the fatal mistake of paying $60 dollars on their joke of a game Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and regret every last cent i spent on it. UMvC3 (Ultimate Marvel vs Failcom 3) falls under that same catagory, making you PAY 40 DAMN DOLLARS FOR WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED ON THE ORIGINAL 60 DOLLAR GAME 70 OR 80 IF YOU BOUGHT THE SPECIAL EDITION! And the sad part is that i REALLY wanna have high hopes for RE6 but deep down i can’t bring myself to do it cause of the crap they have been pulling here as of late. I’m tired of getting 1,000,000 remakes of the same damn game with only a few tweaks here and there or with 5 new characters! The quality of fighters survival horrors and the likes have fallen to scary lows with Capcom and I’m tired of wasting my hard-earned money supporting these money grubbers! I have so much more to say on the subject but for I’ll leave it at that and just PRAY people will WAKE UP and realize they are being severely WRONGED and that the long time fans are being easily mistreated.
Joe you know what i think? Cap con suck. Also i bet that resident evil 6 will have the same bull crap and Dragons Dogma even know they both look like good games. I betting there will be on res evil 6 will have a online pass to get multi player. Dragons Dogma will also have a online pass and content on the disk.
To be honest, i bought the £60 ‘Speical edition’ which i was happy with, i liked the Gems and Comic and nice Arcade Cabinet money box, but after hearing about megaman and pac-man on PS3 and Vita exclusives i went mental, hell i was even BANNED for 24 hours from the Capcom-unity stream becasue i wouldn’t stop asking questions about this, though i am still annoyed at Capcom im glad in the knowledge that capcom are releasing them on the 360, though i just wish, to avoid any more hate from the community, they’d just release the DLC (disk locked content) right now, as we all know what we’re getting.
i say GIVE IT TO US NOW CAPCOM AND STOP WASTING OUR TIME!!!
I’ve been a long time fan of different “Cashcom” games, especially Street Fighter since the SNES days. They had similar cash-in techniques back then as well, remember Street Fighter II followed by Street Fighter II Turbo with extra characters? They’ve been doing this forever because everyone keeps buying their games.
Anway, after hearing about the “MvC3 followed by UMvC3″ story, I decided not to buy those games. And after hearing this, I’ll have no problem boycotting Capcom as a whole.
And as Stephen has put so well: “Blazblue, KoF 13, and MK9 brought their A-game to push 2d fighters forward”
So at this point I’m not even interested in Capcom anymore, they’ve cashed in more than enough on the same f*cking move sets & unfinished characters since way back when. Bring something new to the table and quit f*cking over your fans!!!
I found a few things a tiny bit wrong with your rant despite me agreeing with a vast majority of it.
The first that bugged me a bit was your example of Mortal Kombat’s DLC. While it is true that Kenshi, Rain, and Freddy were actual DLC, Scarlet was on the disc as a playable character and not just as a background character. Although, to be fair, I don’t believe that her moveset was finished. And I suppose that pushing the game back just to finish her wouldn’t have been a very bright idea.
The second problem I had was what really annoyed me, however. Your complaining about the characters being pre-unlocked on the PS Vita version is actually a good marketing decision and I’ll tell you why. And this is baring the fact that they did this already with the 3DS port of Super Street Fighter 4 with the alternate costumes unlocked that the console buyers had to pay for. I’m going to say this as simply as possible.
HANDHELD PORTS OF FIGHTING GAMES DON’T SELL!
Look at the PSP port of Street Fighter Alpha 3 and tell me that was a hit. It was a good port and it brought over characters that were featured in Capcom vs. SNK 2 such as Eagle and Maki into the game that weren’t featured in any other version. But nobody plays handheld fighters, period. So if Capcom wants to continue the practice of making handheld ports of their fighting games, they need to add incentives to bring sales up.
Capcom’s DLC = Disc Loaded Content rather than Downloadable Content. Thats why they are charging you for it. LOL? Lame jokes aside. But given as a fan of Capcom’s fighting games. I am extremely disappointed. That’s why I sold my MVC3 and boycott UMVC3. But extremely disappointed that they did worst thing on SFXT. Guess need to boycott Capcom product as a whole. If they continue to do such thing. It does not matter how good that game is. The company including the developers working for them dont deserve our hard earn cash. This is basically scam. I would rather give the money to smaller developement groups that has talent to grow bigger. At least those people have more integrity than Capcom and their developers
I’m not a big fighting game fan but that is just bull shit. If any other game company or game style did some thing like this there would be a huge out cry and they would be forced to stop. However Cap com is just like were Cap com we do what we want, The saddest thing about this though is that i was thin king about getting this game or at least the ultimate version that will come out, but not any more.

It amazes me how well Cashcom shit still sells so well. Blazblue, KoF 13, and MK9 brought their A-game to push 2d fighters forward. Cashcom will never be able to remake the greatness of 3S with unimaginative fighting and ass-backward DLC practices.
You have to boycott the following companies in any sort of involvement:
Capcom, EA, Bioware thats what I do. DLC is unacceptable, I think you are stoopid for thinking DLC would EVER be ok. Follow what Bethesda, Valve and Nintendo do. You pay for the game, you get the whole thing, updates and DLC included.

Fucking typical of Capcom. MK only released four characters, at $5 a piece, and to be fair, Capcom is releasing 12 for $10. Still, I didn’t enjoy SFXT. With a lack of content, and reused content from 2007, creates an overall atmosphere of dislike for me.

It’s kind of amazing to me that game companies like Capcom can do this and somehow feel good about themselves. I mean there’s making a buck and there’s shit like this.

hmm well just speaking with my personal experience dealing with japanese culture… Japanese business people don’t care what you think, they are going to try to exploit every last cent out of you. And to them it’s not wrong… Lying and the like are completely built into their culture. Japanese also hate change… so even if they were aware of what you were saying, the higher end of the totem pole as it were, will be like, “but we make more money this way” and thats that. I dunno, maybe some other nationalities had a hand in this game, but i doubt it… the reason the japanese game market has been struggling so much of late is because the higher ups refuse change, and basically what the higher ups say goes.
Now, as to non-japanese companies doing similar, well I can’t really comment… but having spent a good deal of time studying japanese culture, and living over here… Hoo boy, there is just so much shady stuff that goes down here behind the scenes… Again, its just completely built into the culture.
“Japanese also hate change”
wow that is offensively oversimplified.
the economist called the japanese governement intransigent. that word also well describes thier business practices, so i think you need to rephrase that claim above.
It’s technically DLC.
Disc Locked Content.
Get it?
agree, we made our selfs to the idea and now to see this type of action naturally, from the point of having 12 characters hidden in the disc and pay the disc and they finally ask for more money for them to use it , iven and if ok they are not completed to the time when was released, if that was the case so you buy the full game and you will connect online and patch the error, but no, is clear capcom do it for lazy and mediocrity
