Wha made me buy this game was the tutorial. The game actually TEACHS YOU HOW TO PLAY.Wanna learn how to play umvc3?Buy skullgirls.
boobs pantis
This game seems really cool. Nice animations.
Only thing is I don’t see any of the girl characters that look like 8 year olds wielding chains or machines. (Usually when I have characters like these with those weapons I fight better with them.)
The inverted cross isn’t a sign of anti-Christianity, its actually called ‘The Cross of St. Peter’ or The Petrine Cross.
i played the DEMO once and was like hmmm cool…..played it a second time and bleeeeeh puked haha. no not that bad, just didnt like the fighting like KOF where i was like WOOW awesomaaaah
As a fighting game and anime fan I really would love to have this game.
I hope the story mode is good. the only thing that bothers me is that there are 15 slots there all in all. Heck that’s ALOT of DLC characters.
Also no flat chested girls here.
Ms. Peacock is flat chest
The way this game looks and goes, I think its worth the money, pretty much. Now proceeding to add it to my “to buy” list.
at 11.43 did anyone else see umbrella wanting to see her use her sonic boobs
Actually the jazz music reminds me of Cowboy Bebop
ramdom game -_-
I was a but disappointed when I learned there would only be right characters too but it’s better to have a game with a small, well balanced and unique roster over one with a horribly balanced 50+ character roster where 70% of the characters are clones of somebody else. It’s an awesome game and they do have free updates and more characters coming through DLC like the zombie girl Squiggly and Parasoul’s sister Umbrella. They may even release male characters like this badass looking dude

and if anybody needs any help playing the game the site that I posted will give you an explanation of all the character’s attacks, strategies and notations in the game.
I can’t wait for the review Joe. I’ve been looking forward to this game, but haven’t gotten it yet. Mostly the fear that Capcom has put in me with fighting games. It comes down to your review Joe if i get it or not, because if i had known about you before MvC 3 came out I would have waited and then not got it. Put I got it the day it came out and took a week to get the new controls down only for them to scrap the game and make UMvC 3.
funny becouse ”parasol” is as a matter of fact a polish word for umbrella witch this character use…
Hey Joe if you like Skull girls you should check out Arcane Heart 3, basically another all girl fighting game with nice 2d graphics, but very animeish with allot of different themes, you’ll understand if you play it
.
Arcana Heart 3 is a great game too. It’s harder and way more anime-ish than Skullgirls but still worth your time if you’re into fighting games.
I don’t want to sound overly judgemental of you Joe but where is the biological buttkicker review? It was advertised on this site on yahoo and nearly every site i go on.I got sick of it…..fast.
My initial immpresion was that its a game designed to target 14 year olds. But my god at the ads they swung at it.After endureing that level of hype, damn man it would be nice to hear a proffesionals opinion of it.
I believe your referring to [PROTOTYPE2], the “Bio-Bomb Buttkicker” was the pre-order bonus from gamestop.
Prototype 2 is a swell game.
Just thought I would throw this out there but I just read on Joystiq that Reverge Labs is hoping to add in game move lists and input display in the training mode for the first update.
And many more things in many more updates to follow! XD
Yeah there are only 8 characters, but I much prefer 8 clearly defined and balanced characters then say 36 characters the are mostly really weak or over powered. I mean go play MvC3 online and in almost every game you see a Sentinel, Dante, or a Phoenix.
Also they have announced free dlc for the game that includes more characters
i don’t even play that game as a matter of fact I taded that stupid umvc3 bull in (actually got very good money for it with other games i put up) that game tought me two things one how to play mvc2(good game) and the second was how to piss me off this game is so imbalanced its annoying the character roster is trash along with everything else I have never played a game where the more I played it the more I didn’t want to play it
sorry traded
I expect the characters will be paid DLC, the free updates will include things that expand the game as a whole (in-game move lists, character specific tutorials, new modes, Etc.)
Yeah no guarantee about free characters, but it’s nice that they will include some free stuff. Hopefully if they decide to pay for the characters they will do it mortal kombat style
Skullgirls gets a 1/10 from me after playing the demo. Not worth the money. I’ve been told the following is an occasional glitch in the demo, but if that’s true it just makes things worse because if the DEMO can’t run flawlessly, I can’t trust the full game to. Not to mention absolutely NOBODY I know personally has ever had a game that didn’t suffer from the following:
1) Load times that would have been unacceptable ten years ago.
2) Gameplay is sluggish as all hell.
3) CPU-controlled players have twice the reach as the player when using the same character.
4) CPU-controlled players hit twice as hard as the player can with the same attacks when using the same character.
Hate to break this to you, but the AI in Skullgirls has been considered by most people as a joke. :/
Also, were you perhaps using a Ratio 1 character vs a Ratio 3? That’d explain the damage difference by a lot.
The AI is only easy if you play the game properly, button mashing = instant death – as it should be.
I think you just suck.
I concur.
To be fair, a small roster of fighters isn’t always a bad thing. Blazblue at the start had 12 characters, but instead of wasting time creating a bunch of copy-pastes of fighting styles, each character was made to fight in a completely unique manner.
And as its been mentioned before, they are going to be adding in a movelist and the like with a free patch, they just chose to prioritize game stability over the list before the game’s launch. There’s also going to be more characters through DLC, and might include male playable characters in it.
at least blazebuleblue had characters that where unique unlike some games
if there’s more characters (male even) better tutorials sure and bigger buzz might get it
What are you on Joe!? The music is incredible! Its better than every other fighter released in the past couple of years and it actually serves to set a theme to game.
Also, go through the tutorial again. From Lesson 1. I’m no pro, but its pretty obvious you have no idea what you are doing. The lack of a move list in-game does suck, but other than that the tutorial is the best tutorial in a fighting game ever. It actually teaches you how to play the game instead of just drilling you on how to do certain moves/combos. It gives you a real fundamental understanding of how fighting games work.
I SALUTE THEE!!
I loved the music personally.
Wow, I think something messed up, I had to see the commercial for Contraband like 5 times before it finally got to the actual video lol
Paused it… Pressed play… CONTRABAND AGAIN. Wth?
Here is the link. Check these out:

other joe is awesome
nice
i must buy this game on psn LOL
Seriously, you should do an angry review. I’m dying to see such a video if it came out.
This game deserves to be given a chance. Plus, they are currently working on DLC characters, two of them being Squiggly and Umbrella (Parasoul’s sister).
I prefer this over Street Fighter X Tekken.
i mean x tekken is okay but it was alot of problems that need fixing trials button commands infinites and the recent dlc problems but not a bad fighting game its a least a little balanced could be alot better
If you can disable the time limit from the Options menu (I don’t own it so I dt know if u can) then this game would be pretty awesome
Not only can you disable the time limit, you can also engage “Sparring Mode” which gives both players infinite health and meter, so you can just mess around!
Interesting game.
But you know what you should try Joe? And make a video about?
MUGEN. It’s free.
And similar to Skull Girls…except it comes with only one character …. and has a bajilion (also free) characters made by the community which you donwload from the internets.
Everyone and everything….form moves, series, other games, TV, anime, etc..
Master Chief, Peter Griffin, Super Mario and Dante vs. Sailor Moon, Kratos, Homer Simpson and Kenshiro? Superman vs. Goku? Daffy Duck vs. Princess Peach? Spiderman vs. M.Bison? Everyone vs. Chuck Norris (spoiler: he wins) All perfectly normal battles in mugen.
The only thing to watch out for is the quality of the characters, since there’s many different version of the same character.
Just YouTube it…. There is a video of one guy going trough his character roster for half an hour..and all he does is flip trough characters. He literaly had like 700 characters or something.
Mugen is complete trash, and we all know it.
95% of the characters made for that game are either ridiculously imbalanced (80%) or completely useless (15%). It is an everyday occurence to find yourself being bombarded with super attacks that flood the entire screen with projectiles which deal 9001 damage every time they hit you.
Also, most of the characters’ fighting styles don’t even match, resulting in utterly ridiculous match-ups where some characters can _annihilate_ entire teams solely because of their different playstyles. For example, trying to beat a Guilty Gear character with a Street fighter character is an exercise in futility, because GG characters are just too fast to keep up with.
Mugen is only good for one single purpose: assing around. And it probably won’t surprise many when I say that the novelty for that wears off -really- quick.
It would be awesome Joe if you can review the game…haha I can already see you dressing up as Parasoul and doing the sexy high kick over and over again…Other than that these are my 5 main flaws with the game
-There is no character move list which is very inconvenient (Mike Z, the project leader of skullgirls said that he had no time to implement the move list due to him having a small team)
More info about this from Mike Z himself: http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/sg-q-a-thread-launch-party-april-10-11th.146958/page-16#post-6094555
-Only 8 characters which is a very low number (They already announced that they would release DLC characters in the future if the game sold well and yes this game sold really well)
-The story is really short for each character (But keep in mind that its slightly better that mv3 and sf4 which isn’t saying much)
-Training mode (You cant record the dummy or give it simple commands like jump, autoblock, or teching)
-No spectator mode (There is currently no news if it well be patched in)
With all of these flaws I think its a tough choice for those who aren’t fans of fighting games like me…Remember that this game was made from a small indie team so its no surprise that some content is missing…But I think its retarded how they couldn’t include more options in training mode and create a move list
Most of the things on that list have already been confirmed as future updates; likely starting with the in-game move list, since that’s the biggest complaint people have with the game right now.
I’m suddenly craving some Dairy Queen.
Well, you really should have gone through the tutorial levels in order, they kinda are built that way. Don’t scoff at the basic ones especially, you will be surprised at how much you don’t know about the basic stuff, I know I was.
The low character list is forgivable in my book because each one was fine tuned to perfection and because its a new IP without a backlog of characters to draw from. Its quality over quantity. If there is a sequel, I will be tougher. Although the scantily clad artstyle is a little hard to defend to other people, even though you and I both know that it can get alot worse (Risen *cough cough* Ever other fighting game in existance* cough cough*).
I personally love the jazz soundtrack, but that’s just my taste, I can understand if its not to your liking Joe.
A freakin fantastic fighting game in my opinion.
I honestly don’t expect any kind of major sequel for this game in the near future.
Why?
Check out the character select screen and see all those empty spaces! This game was built to grow, A LOT!!
well I’m not into fighting games either but I would get this just to play with the girls ” not in a dirty way pervs… well maybe not lol” but since i got a tight budget for games ” gotta sell others for store credit at gamestop” i have to get dragons dogma first before anything then the new map pack for BF3 so if i get all this and still have cash left over i would love to try this game.
Falcon punch!
I think you should wait to do a full review until after the first free update with the in-game move list and other stuff!
Wow, DQ paid ya for that drink, hehe
Gonna run out and buy this but i need to buy a rectal fisting first so im ready for it.
X = LP, Y = MP, LB = HP, B = LK, A = MK, LT = HK. Hope that helps
I thought it was RB and RT for HP and HK, isn’t LB and LT the assists?
That is the default, however, LB/L1 and LT/L2 are macros that can be set to almost any combination of buttons. This can be changed by pressing start at the team size select.
nice……………….
looks like another version of arcana hearts 3 to me.
Would love to see the Joe’s play AH3. It’s this game x10
The game looks rather similar to BlazBlue (right down to the way the animation is very fast and caricatured) mixed with the three-man cell fighting of Marvel vs. Capcom.
And I dislike three-man cell fighting. Just a bad gimmick to have “more attacks” instead of making a decent movelist per character in my opinion.
By the way, what’s with the fonts looking like they’re from a film noir or a ‘Bioshock’-game?
No, it’s not a bad gimmick; the characters could stand alone well. It’s really just a matter of personal preference. The characters have their own good movesets.
I just would rather prefer more than 2 players instead of a standby team. Preference and stuff.
It’s not 3v3 Mandatory. It uses a Capcom VS SNK style mash up. You can have a 3 regular tag team, a 2 Buffed Tag team or a super buff solo Skullgirl.
Yeah, I noticed it’s not mandatory, which is a plus. Although that ‘buffed up’-thing was news to me.
If this was anywhere near a fullprice, I would keep the comparisons to BlazBlue, but seeing how it’s just a downloadable title, I guess it could be considered a decent cheaper version of a fast-paced arcade fighter.
I’m still not wowed by the team matches, though, but no use ragging about a subgenre I just wasn’t meant to play.
This game is awesome, so much fun. They already got DLC characters coming as well, think it’s 2 that’s been confirmed.
My team is Parasoul, Valentine and Cerebella. :]
I don’t think the price tag on this one is that bad considering how small the studio that made this game is and it’s well balanced and each animation is hand drawn as well. And seeing how it’s a brand new IP you can’t really blame them for ‘only’ having 8 characters.
well, in polish parasol means umbrella (but the origins of this word are italian, if i remeber correctly). Thats just a funny fact about nazi girl’s name.
Also- other Joe is goddamn cute.
Parasol means umbrella as well in English. (I think?
)
well, maybe xD never heard of it but i’m not english native speaker so that may be the reason
yep. parasol is considered a ‘sun umbrella’ in english. like what the brits had in the 20th century.
Same thing in spanish. Quite literally “For sun”.
Also :”Umbrela” “Sombrilla”
Looks like a fun game, but I am not a huge fighter fan so I’ll let it slide
Game looks cool, fighting seems easy to do some combo, but 8 playable characters for 15$ is WAY to much
The original Street Fighter II only had 8 playable characters and developed with each iteration. This is a brand new fighting game so you have to give it time to grow. For what it is, it’s a outstanding game. The only problem I have with the game is that there is no movelist. Other than that there’s nothing else bad about it that can think of. It takes everything good about 2-D fighting games and puts it into one neat little bundle.
