Errors
Day one fun!
Yeah, very late to the whole Diablo 3 shenanigans party, would of done this sooner, but I wanted to complete my Skyrim adventure comic first. It’s especially nice to know that despite me not owning a copy of this game, that others on the very first day of purchase could not even play, not even single player! That is complete and utter BS! I sympathize with those whom were effected, if you sell people a product which you promise works from the moment you take it out of the box, and surprise surprise, IT DOESN’T WORK!! You deserve to have people go directly to your company and pitch a bitch and ruin your entire day, because selling a broken product advertised as a working one is considered illegal in most places.
On the bright side, I could do a whole lot more error 37 comics from here on out, so thanks Blizzard for that.
Why not check out my Deviantart page? A new comic every Saturday (or Sunday at the latest)! Why not also check out my Twitter page while you wait?

How about the digital and download purchase 72 hours lockdown of the game? You cant play past the first 30 mins for THREE days, even after they take your bloody monies. Also note that they give NO warning of this whatsoever…. Corporate bullshit.
Minor bit Id like to bring up, but I know people have their own view of what the angry army would look like, but to me, I imagine them as a private military company, busting down doors, and throwing flashbangs to sub due tangos. Its honestly not a complaint, but that shit would be boss.
It still, and always make me laugh about Diablo 3. Main bigstick in the MMO community, their gameplay engine being the industry standard, and fuck up the main part of their biggest MMO release yet. Times like this I’m happy I’m a gaming snob
Care to explain why people should care if they hack in single player? Besides that multiplayer online doesnt really say it wont be hacked. See bf series who are online played. I rather have them cheat on single or lan multi.wich everyone doesnt care at all. And dont bring me that deal with it shit. They bring in a broke product so they have to deal and fix it. I still it is strange every product you buy you can return if it doesnt do what is promised except for software in general. Noone who is protecting the consumer that the makers will do what they say or people can ask their money back. I think its pretty strange to say the least. Care to know the thoughts you guys have.
In Response To Ken saying that Diablo 3 is an online game and it always online to stop hacking. Well its utter bullshit, all they had to do was have an option for offline characters and always online characters. Just like torchlight 2 is going to do.
If I’m not mistaken it was said that you would be able to play both on-line and off-line with the same character in Torchlight 2. :]
While I’m not familiar with Torchlight 2 or how it will work ,that doesn’t necessarily mean the characters are the same.
It could be similar to Dungeon Defenders where you can copy your Ranked Server online character to your offline character list but not the other way around, meaning you can never really feed offline data to the online game server.
Also it seems another awesome error has risen (Error 82) maybe we’ll see another post about that one too.
Wait i just realized that the last error is over 9000!!!!!
That is but the tip of the iceberg.
I loved the livestreams of people getting dropped/teleported back an hour in gameplay.
Was almost as funny as all the exploitative things Blizzard didn’t notice in their half assed beta test that was more of an ad for the game… Seeing people openly abusing the hell out of the system and equipment exploits all over the place was entertaining.
Much less the guys using the abuses to take down inferno Diablo after doing it “normally” once.
Or the hacks/playstation network level of fail with their account management….
You can go on and on, but Diablo 3 is BAD really bad..
First off i laughed at the, “I know im tardy to the error 37 party”, but my opinion is if you like a game don’t care what other people think, like what you like. I got diablo 3 for free because of special 1year wow subscription deal, and i didn’t really notice any problems or significant lag. So when i heard other people were upset i was troubled and could relate to their frustration. But im not going to get involved in an issue or take sides for something that hasn’t really affected me yet. But overall a funny comic and i hope anyone with game problems gets them fixed soon.
error 371002 was my pain in the @ss.
Was it weird that I was expecting an “Error # 0451″?
“EFFOR 37″? I think you made a typo there.
Whoops! Good thing you spotted that. Revising.
What a sad state of affairs we see these days. Where gamers go out of their way to apologize and explain for game developers. Despite the game not working as advertized when launched they still seem to think that we over react when a product we pay for is not available when we want to use it.
If I purchased a faucet for my bathtub and found that after installing it (correctly) and using it for a few minutes is suddenly burst and I had water all over my bathroom floor before i could stop it, how do you think I would react? I would be pretty pissed at being sold a faulty product and demand an exchange, and probably a discount for my hassle. It’s their choice as to giving me the discount, but I likely woulnd’t return if they didn’t compensate me somehow.
So for the people complaining about the complaining, it is fine if you are happy with your product. Go ahead an enjoy it (when you are able to). But do not condemn others who are complaining. This is now capitalism works. IF you are not happy with the product/service then you try and correct the problem. If it isn’t corrected you take your business elsewhere. If everyone stops buying wihtout complaining then the company has no idea about the problem and no chance to fix it.
Personally I haven’t bought Diablo 3. I had planend to when I first heard about it, but then I heard about all of this BS and decided it was not for me. I will still complain though since it is feedback for blizzard. I did not buy your product because of these issues. If they were removed then I will buy your product. I hope they take it as positive feedback in the future to make a game I want to buy, but that will only work if enough people complain adn not everyone says thank you for a sub par product.
Oh, forgot to mention, great comic Phil. I loved the tribute to Homer. I think I see Mr Cox now slowly cooking in his own juices.
After this comic, I’ll live a new life, under the sea.
That’s your answer to everything. it’s not going to happen.
It’s not a defective product. The product works. They can use it now and for the last many weeks. It’s an online game. As any online game, it has to content with online issues. That is not the same as the defective product, so your analogy doesn’t work.
Enough’s been said about Joe’s and the “gaming community” portrayal of Blizzard/D3 launch, I won’t go there, aside from saying I’m all for Blizzard’s methods and against the nonstop spoiled-kid bullshit coming from the community.
If you’re a Diablo fan, you’ve been playing the game for 60+ hours plus already and will continue to play it for months/years to come.
This post is more about certain ppl claiming this game is NOT singleplayer, but multiplayer (one of the commenters here even compared it to WoW and TF2).
What a load of crap.
The game can be played full-on singleplayer.
I’m currently in Act II Inferno without ever joining General (or other) chat, nor have I played with any other people.
Full Single Player Experience here, so Ken (and others), stop misinforming the folks here with your “this is NOT SP, but MP” bullshit.
they are mainly talking about you have to be online, but i think people have overreacted
Diablo 3 is a multiplayer game. Even if you play the content solo, you are still using the many multiplayer features such as the AH and chat channels. This is no different than Starcraft 2. Team Fortress 2 was also a multiplayer game as well. Why is it acceptable for TF2 to be multiplayer-only, but not Diablo 3?
Team Fortress 2 was originally a multiplayer game in Team Fortress Classic, Diablo 1 & 2 originally had a single player mode that did not require you to be online at all to enjoy their game.
Team Fortress 2 =/= Diablo 3, both are completely different games with completely different origins, and comparing them together is like comparing apples and oranges. I personally played Diablo 2 single player on account of at the time, I did not have internet.
Diablo 3 is NOT diablo 1 and 2. They are separate games. Just because the first two were not online-only does not mean the 3rd “had to be” or “should have been”.
In fact, as I described below, there are many design decisions that pushed Diablo 3 to be online only to prevent hacks, dupes and bots. Diablo 2 would have been more enjoyable and had a more robust economy if the hacks, dupes and bots did not exist – but they did. Diablo 3 is blizzard’s fix for that problem, and that’s why it’s online only.
And that’s why I made the joke, because the entire online only thing is a joke, let me explain the joke, it’s ILLEGAL to sell people a broken product that’s advertised as working, Diablo 3 was broken on day 1 and it sold millions. Add these things together and you’ll see what the big problem is. Again in all caps: IT’S ILLEGAL TO SELL SOMETHING THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY ADVERTISED AS A WORKING PRODUCT. DIABLO 3 DID NOT WORK ON DAY ONE FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE.
I’ll ask this to you since the other guy I asked this too could not say a single thing (Call this a fanboy test). If some other company did this with their popular franchise because of the “threat” of piracy, would you go at great lengths to defend their game for a whole week? You’d consider it to be a huge disaster on their part and not a “fix”, I know this for a fact!
It’s not due to a threat of piracy. It’s due to stop hacks, dupes and bots. Read my post below.
Well piracy is one of the things it aims to try to curb with always online but not the only one (and may I say their attempts are ineffective).
Certainly a preventive measure against piracy was thought of when this was implemented.
Hey there, I usually don’t post here, but I visit regularly and watch every single one of Joe’s videos. I make an excpetion just for this, because I think this is an important matter.
The way you portrait Blizzard and Diablo 3 in this comic is very unfair. It seems like you just want to cash in on the people prone to jumping on every bandwagon. What Ken wrote is right, even it resulted in a needlessly insultive argument. If you look at what happened to Diablo 2, you’ll understand why prohibiting hacks and cheats must have highest priority – both for blizzard as a company selling a product and for the customers who want to enjoy it.
If I had to choose between Diablo 3 being always online OR the game being filled with bots spamming me in chat, duped items and hacks, then I sure as hell would not choose the latter.
That aside, error 37 is a fad that’s blown way out of proportion. Yes Blizzard is in parts responsible for this as well by hyping the game like they did, but it really saddens me to see such unprofessional practice on this site. No offense – this is meant as constructive feedback.
Let’s look at this from another perspective shall we? Say that this was an EA game like another Mass Effect that had this much hype as Diablo III did, this exact problem happens and I made a joke about it. Now being as honest as you can be, would you make this same post word for word?
Put aside any bias before answering, I’ll know if you don’t.
here is the difrence, blizzard made an excellent game and they haven´t been explioting the system and i have no bias toward the game, either positivley or negetivley, plus it has been fixed
*cough*realmoneyauctionhouse*cough*
*cough*You’realsoavoidingthequestion*cough*
I personally liked this one, if someone didn’t like it then skip it or pretend never read it or sit on a branch and whine about it like someone cared about.
I’m glad to see Sentinel is on our side. We could always use a giant purple laser spamming robot.
Error 9001
Lol =)
That last slide was really funny, good job Phil!
AngryJoe, please stop this. It is so unprofessional to keep slamming on these launch problems and complain about them. The whole gaming press should be ashamed of what they are doing. You guys are making way too much of it. It was not a disastrous launch, and there have been several worse launches (but I guess the gaming press has a short memory).
First, Diablo 3 is NOT a single player game. It is an online only game. It is no different than World of Warcraft or Team Fortress 2. Just accept this.
Second, this is not online DRM. Many Diablo 2 players have been pleading and begging blizzard to do more to prevent dupes, hacks and bots. By making the game online only, it does secure against these types of problems by a huge margin.
Many of you in the gaming press seem to think that offering a single-player mode would not be a problem. I heard you on TotalBiscuit’s show the other day. The problem is that by giving players access to how the game works in the executable, it makes it easy for people to create 3rd party software to dupe, hack and bot. That’s how it happened in Diablo 2.
So by not offering a single player version of the game, Blizzard has made it MUCH harder for people to create hacks, dupes and bots. These people have to work much harder to figure out how the game functions as they do not have access to all of the executable program.
In the event they do figure it out, Blizzard is also in a much better position to correct the problem too, as all of the relevant code resides on their servers.
I think the gaming press should have done more research on this, because Blizzard has told us this over and over again for years. This is not news. But you guys in the gaming press seem to think it is, and are making such a gigantic deal out of it.
I’ll tell you AngryJoe, the actual players of Diablo 2 have been BEGGING blizzard to exactly what they did with Diablo 3 for the last 12 years… and when Blizzard actually does it, you guys go ape-shit on them for it. I don’t understand. Blizzard made these changes for the players, not for the gaming press.
While it is unfortunate that new players to the series see this as online DRM, they need to be properly educated that this was done primarily for security reasons. With the real-money auction house on its way, things like hacks, bots and dupes need to be eliminated entirely or it will absolutely destroy the economy within the game. This is far more important than satisfying the needs of those that will just play the game for a few hours and move on to the next game after a few days.
I’m a little sick and tired of hearing about the rocky launch issues and the online DRM. I really like your channel and your website. I like how you tell it like it is. I appreciate your candid nature and your reviews. But this time AngryJoe, you’re not informed. Railing against Mass Effect 3 was a good service to us gamers, because you were right. But this time? Nobody in the gaming press has really understood this issue very well.
I hope you read this post and factor in my comments into your eventual review. If you rail against the online drm or launch issues in your review, I will probably not come back and watch in the future. There’s nothing I dislike more than injustice and people not seeking the truth.
I also want to point out the total infeasibility for blizzard to double or triple the number of servers they need to run the game for just the first day at launch. Think about the money they would need to spend for just a single day. After the player count would die down, 2/3′s of those servers would go to waste (and reselling computers isn’t exactly a profitable business after you just bought them… and they would likely be out of date by the time they launched a new project). Blizzard thought they had over-purchased servers, but it just wasn’t enough. Oh well. Mistakes happen.
I also want to remind you that with one of blizzard’s launches, it took 48 hours for it to even work at all. In one case, they pulled their game off the shelves to stop new players from congesting the servers. None of this happened with diablo 3.
That is your opinion, your neither any more right or wrong then the other you post on here. but if your going to bring up these points wait til joe review the game and even give his full thoughts on it. also your defense of Blizzard doesn’t full help them not seem like incompetent fools since you state they have had problems like this in the past and if they did this as an improvement the fact it fucked up and online game for every single player who bought the game it false. so don’t too much on the high horse Ken.
@Ken
Once again another claiming to be everyone else…this is getting boring. First off, the Hackers, bots and Dupes things on Diablo 2 is very controllable if you kept a secure connection between a few friends, not being stupid and play the entire battlenet. Second I played Diablo 1 and 2 for the reason of the story and single player, once that is done I think about join friends on multi. But after I heard the stupid things that Blizzard did to alienate some of its fan base, going strict to Multiplayer, just cause a few peps can not figure out to boot players and lock their sessions. After hearing of this Error 37 I remember the Kingdom 7 review (I believe that is what it is) that Joe did long ago about the whole have to log in to play BS, this is just DRM and BTW there is already a hack to bypass the whole login so you could play single player without getting online (I will not post how to do so, legit reason aside from this). So right now lets check the score, Blizzard Alienated fan base of the game, hackers able to play without login in, and stupid fan bois with fan googles pointed there fingers at something other then a comic before a review is even posted. The door is that way, hope your head hits the frame from you high horse.
if the game didn’t work the game didn’t work
quote :
“That is complete and utter BS! I sympathize with those whom were effected, if you sell people a product which you promise works from the moment you take it out of the box, and surprise surprise, IT DOESN’T WORK!! You deserve to have people go directly to your company and pitch a bitch and ruin your entire day, because selling a broken product advertised as a working one is considered illegal in most places.”
he is right, that is illegal, mistakes happen sure, but this could have been avoided. by simply adding a separate off line mode.
First off, Joe does not write this comic, I DO. He’s the review guy (at least until I can get my hands on the Wii U, then maybe I can cover those games for him), and I’m the comic guy. Don’t be pointing a finger at him while making this argument. This is all my opinion about the gaming community, brought out into gag comics to show how silly these things are.
Now ask yourself this before posting again and really think hard about these questions from the perspective of somebody else who’s just getting into Diablo 3: How fair is it that I need to sign in just to play a solo game to prevent hacking? Why can I not create a character for single player and a character for multiplayer? How fair is it that because of the fear of hacking, OTHER people besides yourself cannot play the game properly while the hackers can find ways around this DRM easily? Why has a great number of people shown dislike for these new changes in their game?
Accept the cold hard truths and show some empathy for the vast majority of people who could not play the game when it launched. I don’t personally care if you leave BTW, there door is over there, don’t let it hit you in the ass on the way out.
Sorry to say this Ken but having always-online connections completely stonewalls people without an internet connection from playing the game (and enjoying it as well, I have often said to have both options, single-player and multiplayer available just for flexibility) and your idea that hackers will be stonewalled as well is wrong because they can (and have) bypassed these kinds of protections in the past and frankly, having a product unable to launch, regardless of whether you have an internet connection or not the first few days is ridiculous (these people legally bought their game and were prevented from playing it) and you stating that this is an improvement is not a plus on Blizzard behalf.
And Phill does these comics, not Angry Joe so get your facts straight, also wait until the actual review comes out before you start judging. But if you don’t like it fine, leave, and get rid of the high horse attitude as well. Because these type of things are going to impact a good game regardless, you can’t just ignore the negatives and declare everyone is too blind to see the positives
Oh and nicely said Phill
, it reminded me of that scene in Futurama when Mom buys Planet Express and tells everyone in a sweet voice to “not let the door hit them on the way out, BECAUSE I DON’T WANT ASS MARKS ON MY NEW DOORS!”
@Phill
Then maybe you should quit, you clearly give AngryJoe a bad name, and your opinions are far different than joes, you have no place here. Go create your own website and promote your own shit there. Where people that think like you will come and see you. Here you are just force feeding us your shitty comics that no one asked for. We come here to see joe, not some comics, if I want to see comics I go to a place to see comics. and its obvious, just see the amount of likes you get compared to angry joe topics, most are 0, while Joe’s content get over 100 likes.
We come here to see him, not you. Go away and make your own site. You are now only acting like a parasite on this site. Promoting your shitty deviantart which may be good in some ones eyes but not on here. Your content is SO out of context and NOT NEEDED.
Either stop posting this shit and just be moderator or maybe in the future a VIDEO reviewer! (which also requires you to leave this site and create a brother site like the “FurryPhillShow.com” and then we will come and judge if your worth being watched. But for now either be a moderator or hit the road.
P.S. I am not saying that I agree with Diablo 3 DRM, but that your content came out of context and angered some Joe Fans, fans that he might have lost because of you! can you sleep at night knowing this fact?
@SkidMan
If the comics are so bad then Joe would of removed them long ago, sense they are still here, just STFU and stop acting like you are the whole army yourself.
@ Phil
Very nice comic as usual, do not get discourage by A-holes like Skid, keep it up and enjoy yourself.
Seriously Skidman? I swear their was a guy just like you in another comic, can you guys just fume to yourself and go invest in dark side mania, I am sick of coming here listening to morons whose only wish is to tear people down. If you don’t want to read the comic, don’t read the comic, if you don’t like the show, LEAVE!
Phill, don’t be discouraged by utter fools trolling just for an excuse to complain to someone, and for goodness sake Skidman, no one is forcing you to read it, and frankly his comics are extremely humorous and are in context,
“but that your content came out of context and angered some Joe Fans, fans that he might have lost because of you! can you sleep at night knowing this fact?”
What are you talking about? read over those words, seriously this is not a soap opera, quit being hysterical.
But seriously last time I checked Phill just posted a comic, a comic about blizzard messing up the launch of Diablo 3, you know the launch that stopped people from playing, is that what you are upset over? That he complained? Or are you just some troll strolling for something to complain about? because if you are then by all means, get the hell off this site or stop posting! Because I know I will sleep a lot easier if “fans” like yourself (who are idiots to leave over … what exactly? Was it a satanic ritual, blasphemy? a racist or an anti-Semitic joke?… oh wait! leaving because of nothing!) leave and never post again or clean up your act! And seriously this “We” business is a delusion, quit acting like you represent anyone.
P.S Look to everyone who reads this, I don’t normally get pissed at others but I get extremely angered over people like this, I am sorry if my aggressiveness has given the wrong impression. I am quite a reasonable guy who will listen to what you say, and will either agree or disagree politely and intelligently.
And as I always say, keep up the good work Phill and ignore people like Skidman, a pity you can’t block him.
And finally to Skidman, quit insulting others for no reason other then to troll.
I think I can sleep at night actually, and all day too knowing that fanbois are getting their undies in a twist because of my comics.
BTW, Skid, just so you know, drama and butt clenching like that brings about more views and comments regardless of how many “Likes” or “Dislikes” it gets. I think I’m going to be staying for quite some time if I keep this up. ;3
Snapped!
@SkidMan
First off, I’m a fan of both Joe and Phill, and their opinions, while being different, still produce laughs. I’m glad that Phill is on this site, because he is a great artist and does some great work.
Second, this wouldn’t have been too much of a problem if it didn’t affect their other games. Many people complained that they were getting the same error on Blizzard’s other games, like World of Warcraft and Star Craft II.
@Phill
Keep up the great work. I always enjoy reading your comics since they always seem to amuse me. ^^
if this game is not supposed to be a singleplayer game then how come YOU CAN ONLY PLAY SINGLE PLAYER IN THE TRIAL?!!!
yes i bought the game. But i hate all of these people who are trying to make excuses for these greedy assholes
I laughed so much at Jesse’s panel, because while reading this comic I was listening to the TGS podcast and he was also taking about Diablo 3 and error 37, so this was hilarious =D
I don’t get it – why rip off The Simpsons?
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing…
Not so much a rip off as it is an homage to when it was originally very very good. ;3
But yeah, I won’t do jokes from others often, unless it’s by accident. :\
hey wheres the ERROR 76667 : The demonic army of hackers has supposedly keylogged your account and stolen your items, blizzard would like your to sell your soul for an authenticator in order to ensure that the demonic army of hackers will never hack your account again. Although blizzard reserves that the authenticator is only an added layer of security and may not protect against hackings.
I have played Diablo II for years and I do not know wtf Blizzard is doing
its actually interesting because when i started installing it last week i decided to look around on the internet and saw a lot of people complaining about the error. Naturally I was afraid I would get it as well..until it installed cleanly and ran perfectly o.o since then I have had three other friends get the game, and my own brother. Still no errors as of yet and no lag either.
I don’t know if any of you are still having issues, but for me there have been none.
That was good, the rule 34 nearly got me to spit my drink out.
Error 37 is just one of several reasons why I will never buy D3 or many other games with the EA logo on it.
There whas alot of errors from the start, and they stil stand strong – -’
if you can login without errors, then gratz! you got a 200-600ms leg ‘>_>
btw, I’m on the EU servers :O
liked the comic strip alot, give me a good laugh
)
It really sucks to be Corporate Commander right now, I bet Angry Joe is happy to vent being nearly murdered by chickens.
And I may be wrong but is that a Decepticon with Angry Joe right now?
Oh and SHOTGUN ON THE HELMET!
It’s our old friend, Sentinel! “DESTROY!!”
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
