Accualy Angry Joe it’s vitnam since you saw an M16.
….the story is that the world in current times went through a tech regression, so it’s using a mix of world war 2 technology with more modern equipment….it’s not Vietnam
It’s Joe’s fault for not playing the tutorial first. He didn’t know what in the world he was supposed to do. If he had taken the time to learn the movements, and to make sure he knew the way it responds, then he would have had more success. Still a funny video. Almost as funny as his Saints Row 3 review. However, I belive he should always do tutorial before juging a games controls, because it could clarify everything.
So, I dont mean to be weird here, but I just wanted to mention that Patrick Klepek on Giantbomb mentions this video on this weeks giant bombcast.
I thought it was cool and wanted to share.
Anywhos, its such a shame this game is so disappointing.
Well, this video just saved me quite a bit of money. How could this have gone so wrong?
So, another promising game ruined by the inclusion of the Kinect. God, I hate gimmicks. Motion controls are the worst thing to happen to gaming since the Virtual Boy.
I was very excited when I first saw the EPIC trailer for steel battalion heavy armor until I noticed how annoying the friggin’ Kinect is gonna be while playing. I May have second thoughts although its difficult to say because it does look astoundingly fun.

Maybe not so like the originally Steel Battalion-controller, but it’s still better than the Kinect.
Was this game for PC originally?
The main reason the kinect doesn’t work-ever-is because all consoles only have USB connections and the kinect cannot send enough info down the wire, otherwise it would work perfectly. Stupid microsoft not waiting till the next console! Other motion control systems are much more simplr and that’s why they work so well.
I have a ps3 but my m8 has xbox and kinect i went to his house to play it and the kinect ruined it

I agree. I played the demo and the Kinect ruined the experience. everytime I tried to do one thing it did something else. and trying to look forward was impossible. everytime I wanted to look out the front window it grabbed the handle that closed the window. I think the Kinect ruined this game, I’m not buying it
I wanna relax when I play a game anyway, lying back and only controlling with my hands.. why do i now have to use my body
If course Kinect dosen’t work on anything but simplistic dancing games.
What a worthless shell of a game this has become because of this failed concept.
I had some trouble with the kinect reading me at first but then I sat forward and worked out that I should just keep the controller in my hand and it worked fine for me. So when you get it to work the game is awesome and I really like the atmosphere and the combat is intense and brutal.
I found the trick with it is to stay calm and be precise with your movements and the game will work with you it’s just if you ever find yourself wrestling with it it can be very frustrating.
While I am glad that game companies are still experimenting with the Kinect as a gaming tool, its just something whose time has not yet come. I suppose if nothing else games like this will help designers and developers come out with something that succeeds more often.
Gotta remind ourselves that technology is an iterative process: can’t pick up a rock and make a game controller out of it without the intervening steps to get there.

I can see the appeal of motion controls in a game like this but the technology for it is still too young. If they wanted to make an immersive mech game then THIS is what they should have given us.

That thing looks freaking awesome. It’s probably expensive as hell but I’m willing to bet that it works better than the Kinect and since we’re on the subject of mech games, what ever happened to the Chromehound series? I remember you did a video talking about it a long time ago. It sounded like a fun game but I never got the chance to play it.
I think it should be worth mentioning and many more times, that the kinect seems to be different for everyone. I know people that have a hard time playing Dance Central because the Kinect can’t read them. I literally just finished playing the SB demo and it was fantastic. I had next to no problems with the Kinect reading me. I had just a few issues but nothing game breaking like what Joe experienced. I will definitely buy this game with it comes out because it works. I’m not saying Joe is incorrect with his experience, but my own personal one was amazing.

Go on youtube and watch people that actually know how to play the game. Capcom did a great job with this game kinect wise. Not only is it accurate but the actions are quick. I can go through the entire mech with a few hiccups.
When the game starts off it tell you to sit up. The problem is when he calibrated his position he was right but when hes leaning forward it expects your hands to be there.

Hey Joe. It’s probably wishful thinking as I’m still looking for a good reason to buy a kinect, but try without the superman tshirt, the print may be ever so slightly reflective and faking a hand. I know wearing a special gaming suit is a leap too far but that might be a factor.
well when i saw it was Kinect i new it would suck it just dosent work right maybe for dance games but nothing else
If only this wasn’t on the Kinect,this game would be exceptionally awesome!XD I can see this working on the Wii or the Xbox or other consoles,but the Kinect’s poor sensitivity just really turns it into a nightmare.
Hey..people..lets try and stick to the topic of Steel Battalion here. We’re an army, either we work together or not at all, so be cool people, be cool.
Steel Battalion looks like it has a lot of potential. Could you imagine if the kinect controls were 100% accurate? It would be extrememly fun, but you’d have to take care not to overwhelm the player with too many buttons to press on the mech.
Something seems kinda off with the acting and with some parts of the story or whatever (ex.: The war machine can’t even take a bit of a hit? SERIOUSLY?!).
Even though it seems like a good game, I think it should still lose points for not having a “controller only” option instead of making you deal with the Kinect.

Dead island is out this game is not out! Why should he try it then if he probably knows about it! Also the game is a good game its not some amazing skyrim lvl awesomness game!
Skyrim lost it’s novelty fast. It’s rather boring. The world just isn’t very lush and it feels like your looking at it through a film. Not to mention how bland and uninteresting ‘ALL’the characters are. I guess what i’m trying to say is SKYRIM IS OVER RATED. IT WAS A GOOD GAME BUT IT WAS NOT GREAT. Also STOP COMPARING EVERY GAME TO SKYRIM. Especially when the games are completely different styles of games. And also while i’m on a rant about it, peoplle have to stop ripping on other games for having some of the same flaws as skyrim and saying that any game that comes out that has dragons or is an open world fantasy game is copying skyrim. THEY ARE NOT. Putting dragons in your fantasy games is not copying skyrim.
JOE please also get a PS3…no we don’t have anything against 360 both 360 and ps3 are equal the only difference is ps3 got a better blueray player and more exxclusives are available for ps3 that are actually a hit….it would be so coool if you review those too and one of ps3 exclusives got ur favourite superpower…lightning

WHEN DEVELOPERS ARE GONNA UNDERSTAND THAT KINECT SHEIT DOESN’T WORK…..IT NEVER WORKS WHEN u need training for something whose porpuse is liesure it becomes a chore….dance central is the only good thing that came out of it
After watching this I decided to try it out for myself, and Joe’s pretty much on the ball. It looks and sounds great, and when I have the controller in my hand there are moments of fun, but the kinect functions kill that fun instantly. Even after recalibrating I found myself pulling levers and pushing buttons without meaning to.
Hopefully this is fixed up by the time the final product hits store shelves, but it worries me.
hey Joe! There´s a metal thing behind you on the wall on this gameplay that reflects, maybe that is causing the Kinect to go crazy, Im not a Kinect user but, maybe that is causing that problem. GO JOE!

the game is too much awersome(but in jap) i really think u will love it.
about the kinect… i just think u should wait till the release a “kinect plus” just like nintendo did with the motion control or wait till developers understand the system. till one of them happens, just … just dont, its not worth it.
It was made for dance games and it works with dance moves .Maybe one day they will make a dance and kill stuff like a Thriller of the dead or something .
