Skyrim Expansion Revealed! Dawnguard Trailer
Skyrim fans rejoice! Bethesda has released the first full gameplay trailer for Dawnguard, the first add-on expansion for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim! Bethesda has really treated the fans so well what with the Skyrim Creation Kit on Steam and a number of free updates which included kill cams, horse combat, Kinect voice recognition and more.
Now we get a glimpse of the first paid “substantial” large expansions they had promised. It looks to center around becoming a super-vampire of some kind, which doesn’t deviate much from the werewolf/vampire transformation expansions we’ve seen in the past. What do you guys think of the Dawnguard Expansion?

I could be mistaken here, but this DLC looks like it could very much effect the entire mood and gameplay experience…which makes it full of epic win.
Why be just a dragonborn guy shouting at dragons and maybe being a bit player in some civil war when you can instead join the unholy forces and become a near daedric god and unleash hell across the land for your own power.
ok, I am reading a lot into this trailer..details…I want details..
Well, I hope this DLC will make me play Skyrim again. It better be worth the money, Bethesda!!!
Ok don’t get me wrong, this does look awesome, i cant wait to see more of the monsters and what not. but this better not be like 3-4 hours long or something. If we are paying $20 for it, it had better be time consuming, otherwise can’t wait to play it.
It looks like a REAL DLC. not a different weapon color for 5.99, or a stupid quest of 1 hour long.
f*cking nice.
just can’t wait to play this DLC!
OMG! Awesome!
Actually I loggeg 366 hours in Skyrim and did everything I could sometimes explored dungeons and had to go back and do the “quests” there too. I did not become a vampire. I did enjoy killing vampires when i found them tho actually became my “oh goodie a vampire quest” thing to look forward to.
I became a Werewolf..it was kinda fun but had its downfalls too. I didnt feel like a SUPER WEREWOLF except maybe at the lowest levels.
and actually whats funny is i remember only seeing a few werewolves and those were in specific quests (one in a cage, the one locked in a jail in a town, and then the silverhand quest).
I think if they dont ignore Werewolves it will be fun.
It looked to me like it was gonna be humans vs vampires. I really dont want to wait for a “werewolf” dlc or some shit.
I dont know how many times ill be willing to replay it .. i get bored with single player games fast even the best ones.
But it looks interesting from what i saw.
GUYS GUYS AND GIRLS AND OMG ORGASM FUCK
VAMPIRE+WEREWOLF = ORGASM I mean hybrid like omg flyingwerewolf or super fast but skiny/strong hybrid that is stronger then both that would be so awesome if they did that…and fuck the sun they can have it so end of game vampire win then the remaining dawn guard Flee to a forest / cave (infested) with werewolf there they meet a guy who is the werewolf king or something white werewolf they plea for his help bam they transform them to werewolfs the werewolfs and vampires both recruit humans then humans run into 1 hold big city they ready up there for the last defense the werewolf and vampire both have massive war and they fight it out on this big field / forest castle for who ever wins kills the vampire lord /werewolf king at the castle, cave, lair they have so after that The winning team attacks the humans at that hold i was talking about BAM!!!next dlc for Skyrim …Done just had sex wooot wow my dreams aren’t even half as good as this lol
That’s not going to happen, because that would contradict with the Elder Scrolls lore. There’s no “werewolf king”. Werewolves may gather in packs, but that’s about as organised as they get.
Sorry to crush your dreams. =/
cant wait to become a van helsing/ ultra vampire yay replay
My main character is strictly a good guy except for the thieves guild… What can I say I needed the coin! So I’m joining the good guys apparently called the Dawnguard or who were the Dawnguard again? Ok I’m joining anyone, but the Vampires or anyone evil
The Dawnguard are vampire hunters. If your main is a good guy, it sounds like that’s going to be your best bet.
It’s great because you get to choose your side, so it adds replay value, in my opinion.
I agree, with the Civil War questline their wasn’t much of a replay value for me because their quests seemed in so similar in comparison, hopefully these questlines are more varied and unique in their own way.
CROSSBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One thing I wonder about crossbows – are they going to be their own tree or a part of archery?
I probably wouldn’t mind it being their own tree with some unique abilities from normal bows and maybe even something cool like engineering a repeating crossbow or something.
It looks awesome but I haven’t even finished my Skyrim campaign yet. Hopefully that won’t matter so much because I really want to play this new expansion. I might even become a vampire now. Being a werewolf in Skyrim kind of sucks.
Look at how awesome it looks! A dragon diving into the ice, crossbows, munching random npcs, new areas and a fucking demon with wings!
i want that now !!!!!
nice! hope they don’t ask too much money
Sure it will be 14.99 dollars as usual
Actually, horse combat is just going to be in an upcoming patch but other than that, it’s going to be awesome!
PS: Loved the crossbow X)
omg I can not wait for this to come out.
This obviously focuses around vampires and vampire hunters but what I want to know is what happens if you try to join the vampires but you are already a werewolf.
LOL hopefully would be like bringing Legion to the Flotilla in ME2. Epic.
OK so I haven’t seen any one say this but what if they let you become a hybrid O.O my head just exploded of the awesomeness
really looking forward to this, just a shame their having a staggered release with pc and ps3 arriving a month after xbox.

still hopfully any bugs will be found by the xbox users and then fixed before us pc users get it
Being.. a fucking…. Vampire Lord… is purely… BADASS!
Can’t wait to suggest this DLC to my friend’s face so he can buy it. LOOOL.
the elder scroll was seen perhaps the daughter used it to return to the island or you got a boat trip either way you meet up with this girl hmm i wonder how this will go, perhaps you will be contacted by paathurnax and if you killed him (you bastards) Odaviing would tell you17 minutes ago · Aitkenhead in the dining room scene the ( you have returned my daughter) their are humans and human remains on the tables yes i know that they are vampires so this leads to me the fact will there be small villages inbetween the vampire fortress and the dawnguard fortress that are plagued by the vampires who are using them as blood farms so will there by refrences to the movie Van Helsing you know that village, about a minute ago ·
So this expansion basically requires you to be evil or miss like 50%?
LAAAAMEEEEEE
I know bethesda wont do it but to make it fair the Dawnguard should have some insane power as well like uber werewolf or something or a vampire hunter skill tree
Maybe it will, though we won’t know for sure but I am certain they wouldn’t lock us out of some of the cool stuff if we go good, just depends on what that something is
Um, and if you join the vampires, you miss the other half. I don’t understand your complaint – there are two ways to go in this. That’s like saying the Civil War questline is lame because you miss half of it by choosing one side – that’s kind of the point, it gives you twice the replay value.
What I meant was that the Dawnguard might have a power of their own or a benefit from choosing their side.
Because all the cool stuff seems to be for the evil side, what does the good side get besides 1 lame ass weapon?
Evil side gets: Uber-transformation, extra abilities etc
I don’t know, until they release some more information all we can do is speculate on what the Dawngard might have.
Though I hope it’s not just crossbows (though that seems like a more general addition rather than a faction-exclusive item), otherwise I will be driven to help the nutjob who wants to blot out the sun, though I am sure they will include something for the Dawnguard otherwise all you get is a new guild as opposed to becoming an uber-vampire.
it looked great… till i saw the price, 1600 ms points. I will see the reviews for it first, and hope its better than any of the new vegas add-ons, which were average at best.
Vampires, Dark Castles, Cemetarys, new monsters? I like it.
Also: Check out some mods (Joe), you are one of teh few people with the engine to run most of them, Rebuying it for PC will pay off for you for sure!
i going to join the Dawnguard and kill all the master-vampires
Never like vampires but that honestly looks really cool, still they are going to try to take away the sun and frankly I like the sun.
YES! YES! YES! Crossbows! They finally brought it back from Morrowind WOOT! Fuck yeah! And this trailer looks goddamn awesome as well, I can’t wait to play it!
WOOT!
Cheese for everyone!
awsome so freaking awsome if you don’t mind Commander Joe I going to spread the word putting the link out to as many people as possible or to the skyrim group on facebook.
Well… i didn’t even finished the SKyrim campaign. That’s why, maybe, i’ll never play through the expansions. The game is huge and, for the time being, i think i’m a little bored of it.
Finally – Crossbows are back. Been waiting a long time for those to return. Lost tech my ass. I wonder if there will be those Dwarven versions from the Sphere constructs.
like the good old days
crossbows suck ass Ill be sticking to my bows
Just nostalgia, I preferred bows to crossbows in morrowind anyway as well
well no more dragons dogma for me
Now i have to say this does look very interesting and hopefully you can do something awesome like block out the sun…. just hope this dose not make becoming a werewolf redundant. what i reckon this DLC will be is either become that super-vampire or join the dawnguard and kill the vampires….so typical pick a side scenario but still looks impressive. Pretty excited about it. Cant wait
looks fucking awesome
wait we can curse? then fuck yeah this looks fucking amazing holy shit im going to fuck shit up. ok used up my cursing for the month
I hope we don’t get copy-paste quest. For some reasons it reminds me Lonesome Road DLC. Thats good because main character was Tabula Rasa. It looks very mature but I know Bethesda. they will try do something for everyone not just for RPG veterans. This is sad.
but I think skyrim lacks an epic battle, I mean you never see more than 10 npc’s fight and 5 vs 5 is not that fun
if they find a way to give us 50 npc’s battles (and some co-op) without killing our computers then the world they make won’t feel so empty….
horse combat? I’m in!
Vampires, the only thing more played out and annoying as hell then Zombies at this point..
yeah I agree, have no interest at all in playing some lame as evil vampire gaylord. Only thing that would have me slightly interested is if he could fly but it seems it can just hover like some lame as hovercraftpire…
The questline associated with it seems okay enough by first impressions and the idea of having an expansion with 2 opposing factions to fight it out seems cool enough (less generalized then the Civil War I hope)
But it seems less like a “Shivering Isles” Expansion and more of a “Knights of the Nine” type expansion to me given the amount of time they have had, with the length of a major quest line that is what it seems like to me.
In terms of content I mean as well as new land
f the vampires..i want to see demons.. >:)
ummmm deadra? derp!
They do only show up at the end of one quest however
I’ve never been crazy about Deadra. in all honesty the entire oblivion story line seemed very..uninteresting. Oooh creepy portal to a place called oblivion, awesome. Mkay fire and lava..random evil towers..alright i guess. Mkay very human-like demon people, little monkey things, and two legged triceritops…not that great.
I mean I don’t know all the lore and history behind Oblivion, but it seemed a little overrated. In fact the bosses in the Elder Scrolls in general have been very pathetic. I want to see some /true/ evil and darkness. Massive demons that make you want to shit your pants. Something a little more..interesting.
It makes more sense if you actually understand the lore of the elder scrolls but I do understand where your coming from they could have made the designs for the deadra a bit more demonic and scary and a little less humanoid and cartoonish
The main quest for Oblivion pales in comparison to Morrowind and Skyrim, the only reason I play it nowadays is the large amount of high-quality mods as well as the established mod base it has.
This looks AMAZING!!!
I wonder if you’ll be able to become a vampire/ gargoyle if you are already a werewolf or will you need to remove the werewolf curse?
Now comes the hard decision, which might be the most difficult decision in ALL of the Elder Scrolls games. I could join the vampire/ gargoyles, get wings, eat the souls of the living and the dead for breakfast, control bats, become one with the darkness, and ride undead horses OR I could join the generic guards and get crossbows…This will require a great deal of thought…

They’ve already announced Elder Scrolls Online, apparently to take place throughout the whole of Tamriel, not just the frankly rather bland area of Skyrim but Morrowind, Cyrodill (Oblivion) e.t.c.
But that seems like a run-of-the-mill type MMO, with Skyrim Online it would be cooler because a. you don’t have to pay for subscription and b. you would include elements of Skyrim such as combat, first-person etc that will be the same as it was in vanilla, only with a online aspect.
But the idea of traveling across provinces does have me somewhat-excited as well, I will wait and see.
Wait, unless they get rid of subscriptions they can kiss my money goodbye!
This is why I like Guild Wars better
Looks awesome, cannot wait to play it.
I’m excited and everything, but…
At least two of the major parts in this trailer (flying Vampire+model, mounted combat) was part of the Skyrim Mod Jam that Bethesda did. While the mounted combat is free (1.6 update), what about the Vampire addition? It seems like we’re stuck paying $20 to get access to it, and I’m starting to have a bit of an uneasy feeling about the rest of the Jam mods and their additions. I would of much preferred having them bring the Flying Vamp with 1.6 as well (or next patch) as something discoverable, then have “Dawnguard” explain it’s origins and the like.
They also promised the DLC released would be of expansion-quality. While we can’t say anything about that as of yet, I’m not so sure that they could really stretch the whole “Vamps Vs Hunters” thing to an expansion-level length.
yea cuz no full length game has ever been based on vampire vs humans has there? xD
Oh I know there has been, but those games aren’t Skyrim (and also, they generally seemed to suck as well…!).
This doesn’t sound like it’ll exactly be expansion length to me I guess. It feels like its just going to be the length of a main story quest or two, and that’s it. I guess when they say “expansion-size”, I can’t help but think “Shivering Isles”, not “Knights of the Nine”.
I won’t buy any DLC for Skyrim until they fix the game on PS3. I haven’t been able to play at all since 2 weeks after release due to the shitty PS3 port.
i have a PS3 and ive never hit even a single glitch or problem with the game, mean while a friend of mine only got 3 hours into the game because his Xbox left a huge deep scratch in the disk, cheep outdated xbox hardware, or at least from your prospective eh? i mean one screw up and you deem the whole thing to be shit right?
No I’m talking about how many PS3 players have experienced extreme framerate drops. Sometimes it drops to 2-3 FPS and stays that way for 30+ minutes. Constant console lockups. Hell even causing the PS3 to freeze when you move under water. Not to mention the multiple quest glitches and other bugs that can prevent you from even completing the main story. Don’t assume I’m a typical whining gamer.
The PS3 port does have its issues but I’ve never experienced anything as bad as what you described. I haven’t had any game breaking glitches and my framerate drops are never that severe. I heard that it helps if you turn the autosave off. I’ve never tried it myself though so I don’t know if it will actually help or not.
stupid fanboys always the same rofl
That seems like a legitimate thing to complain about to me Rampage, their is nothing stupid about it.
Im talking about Thomas dude acting like there are no bugs and glitches on ps3
Oh sorry about that Rampage, that was my bad
i will buy this one, first play through i will go against the vamps
Too many games
, im just about to buy max payne 3 for the pc…and now this? oh my god , by the way , when will you review max payne 3
?
I’m liking the look of this.
It looks alright, I guess. The main part I’m disappointed of is the fact they’re reusing the same assets we’ve already seen in Skyrim. I want to see something new, something with color! I want to see… Tropical islands…
so dont buy it, its not like the whole game was re-used, unlike some games…*cough* fallout NV *cough*, anyways…theres clearly brand new stuff in this DLC, for example, i was pissed off when i couldn’t find a crossbow in the normal game, now i get one :3 but then again it might just be the vampire fanboy in me talking xD
Holy shit Dolphin Dragons, shut up and take my money.
it seems just to be 1 scripted dragon event
I was hoping for new dragons or at least fixed dragons seems we wont be getting that
Yeah, the dragons in the game get from really hard and exciting to your average pushovers to all most small inconveniences, I would like to have revamped combat for dragons to vary more and have different difficulties and methods of attack. Hopefully we will get something like that soon.
I think it looks FRIGGIN AWESOME!, whatever excuse works for playing more Skyrim is valid for me!
