AJ E3 2012: Dishonored, TES Online & Injustice
Angry Joe checks out the innovative Dishonored, gets answers on what we can expect for Elder Scrolls Online and does battle with the DC titans in Injustice: Gods Among Us! Check it all out!
Injustice: Gods Among Us
I got to be honest, I’m worried as hell right now for Injustice. I hope they have tons more unique and innovative ideas yet to be announced. They are pushing the “using your environment as a weapon” thing extremely hard when it’s my belief no-one is excited about that. More focus needs to be put on the characters, they only have one “cinematic” “hyper” attack each? This is a huge mistake. I have confidence though that NetherRealm will deliver an amazing story mode, plenty of extras and a great online system. We shall see.
UPDATE FROM NETHERREALM w/ Regards to My Tweet!
Dishonored
This was the best game at Bethesda’s Booth. It surprised me quite a bit with how the demo’er replayed the same level twice in two completely different (but equally fun) ways. The art style and world was fascinating and different enough that I’d like to know more about the universe. I’m looking forward to this one!
Elder Scrolls Online
Again, I was slightly disappointed with some of the things I heard and saw on the game. It is still early, but I’m concerned when “blocking” is the major innovative mechanic here. The demo mainly showed off landscapes and beautiful music (that was just as inspiring as previous titles) but overall I’d say the press was pretty bored with what was shown. Nothing sets it apart or gives the consumer a reason to buy it just yet other than, “Its Elder Scrolls”. MMO’s have so many aspects to them so there’s plenty to be revealed but my impression was that this one has a pretty large uphill battle to wage.

If elder scroll online combat system is going to be targeting, I won’t play it.
Cause it’s gonna be same old waiting and pushing button untill enemies die….
I really hope they make it as non-targeting combat system. Like skyrim.
Is it really so hard to take Daggerfall’s content and build it into a modern engine? It really was better in a lot of ways than the current lineup IMO. The fact that Bethesda outsourced this project worries me. I think it will either be an epic smash, or it will suck balls….my bet is on the ball sucking.
I think TES online doesn’t look bad but others have persuaded me with good arguments. I haven’t been a part of this army for long and so i didn’t get a chance to play a great game like guild wars 2 with you guys. So i want to play a big MMO with all of you as a powerful army. So why not start with a series that i’ve loved and cherished.
I can really imagine the Angry Army in the fields of Tamriel being led by our commander “Angry Joe” into glorious battle .

I think Farcry3 has better AI then guards from dishonered.
i hope TES online doesn’t suck…
Hi Joe, will you do an Angry Review of dishonered? I would love to see that. Thank you!
LOL, fail. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t referring to “Block” being innovative but the whole real-time based actions. Which has been done before I’m pretty sure but still if it’s a combat like Skyrim then I’ll like it. Most likely it’ll be like Morrowind though.
I was sort of expecting some kind of combat innovation besides the almighty block. Terra, as others have quoted, is a great example. Another thing is armor and weapons. I am worried about the armor and weapon designs. Bethesda did horrible in this department in my opinion. The armor was not amazing looking and it looked like almost no effort was put into the weapons. Unique weapons looked exactly the same as a common weapon. For example, why the hell did dragonbane look exactly like a regular katana!? If dragonbane is a sword specificly designed to cut a dragon apart why does it look exactly like the katana I picked up in Delphine’s “secret” hideout. I hope Zenimax comes out with even more awsome designs than what i saw in the video. Honestly, in Skyrim it felt like Bethesda was depending heavily on modders, which sucks for those that are stuck with the console version. God bless mods.
look even after i saw the interview im still excited about elderscrolls online..when i played skyrim i always wished i didnt play alone..i always wondered how it would be if my crew or friends played with me..with there own armor and weapons and skill builds just runing around with me slaying dragons and doing assasin guild quests..well its going to be a bit difrent..its pvp witch is awsome..and i can tell they are tweeking on the fighting mechanics so that it feels more pvp.even tho if its the same as skyrim like wen fighting mobs it would be good enough for me..ontop of everything there will be guilds also and thats exciting for me..they will have real time events and things..so its like playing elderscrolls just not alone plus the fun of pvp…so count me in
I feel sorry for the Zenimax dude, he is clearly at the “crap I can’t talk about this combat stuff” point so he harps on the sprinting/blocking. They need to send less game designers and more salesman to do these things, then at least they will be able to say alot of nothing without having to repeat themselves to do it.
PS: Batman kicked a dude 100 ft in the air, through a wall, through the floor, through another wall, through the other side of the building? With a one foot drop kick….. ……. …… -_-
Dishonored sounds pretty sweet. Like Assassin’s Creed, but less conspiracies and more magic.
Not sure about Elder scrolls online, i’d have to hear about it from users beforehand. But really? Molag Bal? Is that guy ever not an asshole? I do hope i can still by a khajiit as normal, i love the cat people!
Batman sending a guy through a building with a kick? mmm…
Injustice looks like it has potential, I just hope they use said potential and make it a truly unique experience.
As for Elder Scrolls Online: Hey, guys, I don’t know if you could tell from what the guy was saying, but blocking is definitely in the game, you guys! Like, blocking is going to be so great! Aren’t you excited about blocking?! BLOCKING!
people stop it! this is not bethesda’s fault they are not the ones making the game zenimax online studios is
Bethesda is absolutely amazing in their games department but it feels like to me that they are betraying their fan base to make a quick buck and cash in the MMO market.
If they did something innovative as they have in the past (and I can assure you blocking is waaaaaaaaay at the other end of the spectrum when it comes to innovative game mechanics), than I might not be having a problem other than subscriptions (but the latter is the main reason, among others, why I stay out of the MMO market because to me it feels like glorified renting to pay for a game after you paid full price for), yet the more I hear of it, the more generic and bland it seems to me
I will not support this game in any capacity unless they make some drastic changes to how it will appear to me, do something unique Bethesda, don’t do bland crap and trample the Elder Scrolls series and how amazing it is.
Cool, Dishonored has an old sailing song.
So TES online came out before Fallout Online? O well, it seems awfully risky to dump money into an MMO and then say the most innovating mechanic people should be hyped about is Blocking. Hopefully they are still brainstorming or else this will just seem like them trying to cash in on the mmo market. because if the combat is average then they will have to create strong story driven Pve and stay true to the mythos/lore. But Dishonored seems like a good reboot to the steampunk franchise and interests me greatly.
TES Online is a must get, no matter what. In the mean time, I can always wait people to make Co-op mod to Skyrim…
theres a skyrim online mod i didnt try it but i dont think that its complete yet
No where close, but it has potential to become something great
in my opinion (not everyone will agree with it) the perfect TES online would be skyrim, add a little oblivion (hand to hand, athletics, acrobatics and combat that required more skill cuz skyrims combat is too damn easy), a much bigger map and other human players and viola this is my perfect TES game and of course we shouldnt forget another epic story
Actually, if you dump in
1) Dragon’s Dogma Boss Fight,
2) add in Dark Souls Combat Elements,
3) further mix it up with smooth movement like Assassin Creeds
4) Plus an Story Line and companion interaction like Dragon Age: Origins,
5) Guild War & PVP Systems like Ragnarok Online
then we have the perfect game.. <3
Elder Scrolls is deep and great in it's own way, but if you explore and play other games, you get to see other innovations and game mechanics that would be awesome IF the Elder Scrolls has.
i know other games are great but i want a perfect TES online not an overall perfect game
elder scrolls dev is dodging the question over and over again… i like elder scrolls games but if its traditional mmo combat it wont do well…people are wanting new mechanics ala tera, DCUO ect.
Thanks for the Dishonored interview Joe!
Really one of my most anticipated games this year, among others but this is right at the top.
Holy shit! Dishonored looks SOOOOO GOOOOOODDDDD!!!! I was really pissed that Bethesda locked all of us non-media people out again this year…but I’m glad you at least got to show some goods! This game is gonna be GOTY!!!
Elders scrolls online will fail hard!! they are just making it for the fame of the title..
TES:O just makes me sad.
They have an awesome, beloved SP-Sandbox Franchise and make another crappy WoW-Clone?
They could have revived mainstream Sandbox-MMOs like UO and did this.
Its just a shame.
i think thats what they are doing. this is pretty much what UO is right now
TES Online doesnt look any better then other mmo games, just add cooperative (2-4 people) to TES 5-6-7 etc.
I realy hope it will not suck or be a generic mmo. But visuals sure look more like a sucky copy-paste mmo then TES 4 or 5.
if it will be true to TES singleplayer gameplay\grind\leveling\companions\guilds then count me in. I just dont want to level 99 levels of midless quets\combat for a game to become FUN with PvP on higher levels. (PvP is what I dont care much about in any mmo I played, love PvE and coop, quests, story etc.)
if not mmo fans, I hope tes fans can relate to what Im saying, so lets prey !
Dishonored looks awesome but I’m a little worried about Injustice too. My biggest concern is the lack of innovation. It looks too much like Mortal Kombat and some of the character redesigns look bad. Harley’s in particular. Why didn’t they use her Arkham City costume? I personally think she looked the best in that. Hopefully NetherRealm will include unlockable alternate costumes like in MK9.
Joe. Stop nodding!
It’s he’s job . .
yes some listen about mac are good for gaming
thank you bethsda thank you
i really like dishonored and it looks awesome . I don’t really like elder scrolls online but injustice reminds me of mortal kombat but it’s nice.
Thank you Angry Joe for covering Elder Scrolls Online!
That said, I’m on the fence about it… a Lot!
I started thinking it’d be a WoW clone with hotbars. Now they say it won’t be. That’s a start but it still sounds like a pretty lame MMO this far. I’ve played Age of Conan for a few years and in terms of gameplay (and graphics, although those are less important), nothing has beaten AoC yet. That game had problems of its own; few players, only PvP being supported and no love for any other part of the community.
Now my worry, assuming they do make combat more interactive and more in line with the games we’ve seen this far in the franchise, is that they’ll forget about lore and go with demented armour designs, shiny, weird weapons and ugly, flashy lights all over, even if you’re just swinging a damn sword..
Guess we’ll see… Still don’t feel like paying monthly for something Guild Wars 2 might very well do better for free.
I totally relate to what you say. I realy want it to be a deep TES game with everything what makes it a TES game – gameplay, story, etc. and not a flashy mmo clone.
they sayd combat will be dynamic and real time controlled like SKyrim (when you dont press a Spell “Block” what have a chance to block and takes some magic time, but actually block yourself when you need to – thats what I mean).
so thats a good start. but I realy would love splitscreen coop in Skyrim (or previous games) atleast on same console, if not on PC via internet\lan.
i think it would be a safer bet for Bethesda, and fans would love it to play with friends as you can with a companion.
dunno why do they need to make an mmo instead of a coop, but lets hope it will be the best mmo ever, or else..it will be just another one in a bunch. =\
Problem is, it ISN’T real-time combat like Skyrim.
In Skyrim, you have to AIM for swings, arrows and spells and MOVE your character, using the environment to your advantage in every fight.
Everyone who has seen this has described it closer to GW2: auto-targeting, NO viable first-person (you don’t see your arms/weapons) and a lot of numbers flying out of people when they take damage.
Very, very lame. The really sad part, is that Skyrim-like real-time combat has been done in MMOs before. MMOs like Darkfall and Mortal Online both have real-time combat with actual aiming and maneuvering. It’s really sad when a massive 250-person dev team with millions of dollars at their fingertips either can’t or won’t do what tiny teams with almost no money have managed in the past.
Honestly, when I first saw the elder scrolls online, I was intrigued. Just seeing the trailer all these ideas swam in my head. A game taking place over all of tamriel with real time combat and the ability to choose what skills you wanted on top of being able to explore the world with your friends. The idea made me rather excited. Then, however, I started looking into it and didn’t like what I heard. From what I’d searched it sounded like it wasn’t taking any risks and was pretty much playing it like a reskin of WoW.
I’ll give it a chance if it will have real time combat and not a lot of that “Collect X amount of Y from Z.” I just want it to do SOMETHING innovative to stand out as the elder scrolls has been known to be as there isn’t any game quite like them. Sadly, if blocking is the best thing they have to show for innovation, things aren’t looking good at all for this game. MMOs with more involved combat exist such as Vindictus, Rusty Hearts, and Terra. Two of those are even free to play. If Elder Scrolls takes that leap into this new style of mmo combat, then there might be hope for it yet.
Gods among us is starting to peek my interest. I am not a big fan of fighting games but I enjoy DC animated movies and am really interested in the reason these heroes now want to fight each other. Dishonored, this game is my most look forward to game coming out this year I can’t wait for October. My god the small amount of interest I had just plummeted for Elder Scrolls online beyond there main selling point seems to be the fact it has the elder scroll name, my heart dropped when I saw the orc with the cartoon strongman look. Seriously? Swtor did this too and I was just as disappointed as I was then. Why do all mmos nowadays have to look like they belong on cartoonnetwork.
Joe thanx for posting in injustice video. And i quote ” Angry Joe VS Ed Boon” is epic. They might refer u as one of the DLC characters.. LOL 😀
Repeat the part about the block, I didnt get it yet. LoL
hahahahah!
OMG you can press a button and BLOOOOOOOOCK!!!!!!!!
whoop de frickin dooo.
I love how joe tried to nail him to the wall “Can spells miss?” and he evaded it faster than Mitt Romney getting asked about his tax return.
“did you hear, you can press a button and block, or SPRINT!”
What that tells me is that you basically lock onto a monster like traditional MMO and wail on a rotation until it dies, with the added hassle of having to push block when the monster flashes it’s “tell” or you take a big hit. Either that or they have not built the combat engine past block, sprint, and aoe spell. Using my crystal ball I forsee this game doomed to mediocrity.
if Dishonored is anything like Thief, then gd! count me in
Dishonored looks so damn good, I really want that game!
Dishonored looks great. I haven’t seen or heard anything to make me doubt that either. Think I’ll be grabbing it on day one. Same with Watch Dogs and X-com.
TES online… every time I see an interview with a dev or read anything about it I get the feeling that they’re trying to say “It’s pretty much WoW” without actually saying it. I’m not hopeful.
with the Elder scrolls MMO the way brian wheeler was talking about active blocking i was expecting him to just say the fighting mechanics are simply skyrim and that would of sold me on the game, the fact he didnt and joe asked a great follow up about avoiding/missing with spells and brian deflected saying you can avoid ground target spells, makes me conclude its a standard MMO tab targeting system otherwise you think they would be shouting it from the roof tops.
have to wait and see as more info appears
I am so damn excited for elder scrolls online! Imma be an argonian like I have been in Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind! Thanks for the vid Joe!!!!
dishonoured is propaply my most anticipated game of 2012.
im going to say more then me3 was back in the day.
and damn i was so hyped about mass effect 3.
+ theyr going for the way as they did with dark messiah wich was an epic experience to me that i remember for the rest of my days.
elder scrolls online sux… another wow clone… what a waist.
Hey with that interview, TES online doesn’t look that bad as I originally thought, it might have some interesting tibits to it.
Still if it is subscription based I’ll pass…
Dishonored on the other hand is a must have!
Hey thanks for all the hard work in getting all these interviews! Your asking some good questions all around. That Dishonored game looks quite promising, very much Hitman/Thief esque, and I’m a huge sucker for that kind of stealth gameplay.
Man, I so want Injustice to be good, but you do have a fair point… If they pull of cool environmental combat-mechanics, it might turn out to be an awesome feature, but it shouldn’t overshadow the characters, as that is the main thing in a fighting game like this… Guess we’ll have to wait and see!
Greetings from Italy 😀
Dear Joe your questions are really good! It’s just like you read my mind or something. Everyime i want to know something about a random game, you ask it! 😀 Is that a new superpower of yours?
ps. Thanks for Dragon’s Dogma review, i’m playing it right now. It’s awesome
Hey Joe, you should have asked them to put Red Lantern Joe into Injustice.^^
Hahaha. For Reals! >=)
Good idea! but why not put Angry Joe himself? He would make a cool video game fighter with abilities like the Cuss Cannon or ULTIMATE POWA!
Note to self, Angry Joe Cameo for Cross Counter
Haha Make him a pre-order bonus
