I’d pay extra for time units aswell. And more like a 10max squad size rather than 6.
i kind of like the FBI one that was at e3 last year
it look interesting and original
but i guess its dead because fans don’t like when someone does something different with a 10 year franchise that no one touched for years
I would love a time units per turn. I would pay extra for that.
x-com was my favorite game growing up. i always wanted this game revisited.
Side note, when going to film school, I thought of doing an x-com tv series. I thought it’d be a great basis for a show. ah, well. dreams die for a reason.
Hmm, I’m excited about this game but the producer never having played the original and never playing PC games now makes me pretty concerned about it. I’m just hoping that the love for XCom the Designer obviously has for the game shines through!
Please – let’s have a decent XCom remake!!!!!
As much as I’d love to follow your order to buy and play the game, I fear I will not.
Simply because they did NOT convince me it’s going to be a worthy reimagining of the original XCom….in fact they did quite the contrary.
This is going to be just another steamlined destruction of a popular franchise.
I don’t mean to be rude, but come on…”I’ve been a huge tactical turn based fan all my live, but I never got into PC games”?
How can you be a _huge_ tactical turn based game fan without for _all your live_ without having played XCom?
And he found the learning curve to be too steep?
Come on…
Statements like these, and the way the questions were (not, mostly) answered just leave me no choice but to believe that this is going to be just another greed-driven wallet-emptier.
I hope I’m wrong…
Welp time to start skipping meals to save up money to get this game.
to be honest, i never played an X-com game because i was never that much attracted to tactical strategy games. I played silent storm and Gorky 17 for a few hours and thats it. But this remake looks very interesting.
BETRAYAL!! >:O
He made a Dwarf Fortress shout-out. Sweet.
For me X-Com is the best game ever.
I will buy this, no doubt.
Never tried any Xcom games before.. but it looks really interesting, i think ill check it out on release date
Spoony shouldn’t feel sorry for the “BETREYAL!” incedent. A lot of comedy was born from that
And the Xcom fps really did look sucky
Oh, and joe i would really love to see that gameplay footage. Can you please upload it?
I have mixed feelings about this. Doesn’t look like a BETRAYL, but the system they use seems..lacking. Using just two moves and very closed classes is the very opposite of freedom IMHO.
I liked taking care of ammo, and planing each move for optimal use of TU. I liked every soldier being able to fill anothers role (with reasonable sucess) in a pinch. I liked being able to pop from behind a corner, lob a grenade at one alien, fire my pistol at another and duck back down.
Dunnoo..just kinda sad and afraid for this title. I want to like it, but the more I learn from it’s battle system, the more restrictions and limitations I see.
I have to agree. The original x-com was not just strategic on the battlefield but economically as well. Seeing as the took out production it just seems like a boring shell of an typical rpg. At least in the old x-com you had to provide ammunition and armor to your troops as well as storm alien bases and ships to get that resource to create blaster bombs and to fuel your later ships.
Not to mention the amount of troops you command… seriously 4-6 troops it just doesn’t feel the same as a third of you guys getting cut down like D-Day at the front door of your ship on veteran mode.
I loved x-com ufo defense as well as x-com apocalpse but having a hard time being convinced that this won’t be a let down. I may buy it when the price drops down to $20…
Something in that vein, but what I was mostly reffering to was how limiting it feels.
The “special” abilites are tied to a class as far as I can see. Only heavies can do X. Only snipers can grapple. Only scouts can dash.
It is LESS freedom, as much as the devs say otherwise.
Your amazing Joe!!!
Honestly haven’t really looked into the game but the interview is great as always!
6 soldiers? One base only? Have I understood correctly?! Who are those guys? Have they ever played the original UFO: enemy Unknown? I crancked up to 16 soldiers into my 1998 old Skyranger! I launched 3 barracuda sea interceptors (from 3 different bases) against a single Dreadnought in terror From the Deep!
Someone tells Sid Meyer what they’re doing! They’re annihilating, DUMBING DOWN (do we seems all dumbs to game developers?) another glorious Microprose masterpiece!
HEY YOU! New games must have MORE features than old ones! EXPAND OLD GAMES!
How about heavy weapons sections (UFO Aftermath), mortars, teleporters, personal shields (the last two were present in XCOM: Apocalypse), space combat…. have I to continue?
Check out Xenonauts. That game might probably be for you.
X-COM: Enemy Unknown is my game though. Even if they removed some features, it’s good to see nice Turn-Based Combat in AAA form from Jake Solomon’s team.
I was too old to get into the X-com games. But I am def interested in Enemy Unknown now.
lol – but surely almost 20 years on you’re DEFINITELY too old for the new XCom?
I noticed that this says October for the release, and also for XBOX. Please tell me that there is going to be a version for the PC?
If not then this would be considered one of the biggest kick to the man berries we gamers can ever get.
Also, great job Joe.
If you watch the video they say it comes out on the PC as well at the same time. Also with a reworked grid system and HUD and better FoV, etc.
Now that I know this is turn based I’m stoked!
Also great job Joe and Spoony! Again please give us the hands on vid! I am fast becoming a RTS fan, started with Starcraft 2 and now command and Conquer the first decade so i really want to see this game action, to see for myself if it’s BETRAYAL or REDEMPTION!
Get the hands on time in a video! Please, i really want to see it! I’m pretty sure other people on the site want it as well!
Spoony did apparently cause some butthurt: http://de.twitch.tv/lordkat/b/287575015
“Spoony is at E3 again…Cant wait for him getting in front of XCOM again and
start yelling, that would be fucking great for our reputation”
“Because being invited as press and then yelling BETRAAYAAAL may not
be the best thing for other people who you are associated with, who then
get laughed at at other events”
“Maybe drop the fucking character for 5min goddam and act like pro, instead of acting like a stupid fucking monkey out there”
“Theres entertainment and theres professionalism, and at some point
you have to drop the entertainment and be a pro. But I have yet to see
that”
butthurt indeed.
That video is 1 year old. The date of recording is even written in the video.
Nice interview! You asked questions that people actually want to know the answer to. Thumbs up for Joe and Spoony!
This game could be pretty awesome, I never actually played the original X-COM titles but I’m def. a fan of strategy games. Does this have turned based combat? That’s one thing I’m unclear on, and I flippin’ love turn based combat when done well!
Yes it is a turn based combat strategy, every squad member has his turn and “action points” to preform your commands =]
Thank you Joe&Spoony, awesome interview.
Upload the game play footage we want to see =]
This is a game i definitely going to buy,
Thanks again for your time and work! =]]
i am not much of a strategy gamer but it looks great
I’m a tad nervous they didn’t answer the PC DRM question, but have no reservations about the game itself. It’s going to be awesome!
Great interview! Now I understand why you can build only one base. I’m getting it for PC.
Wow this was awsome, deff will be buying.
Can you do a wrap up of E3, who was there, largest presenets, summary of everything you went to and how you felt about it? Best/Worst looking games??? Etc..????????
yeah and also you can make like a top or flops list of E3, if you have the time and eagerness to do it ofcourse
Great interview, can’t wait for the rest of them ( and the game of course ).
P.S. You should definitely upload the gameplay footage.
Loved the interview!
And, yes, of course I want to see the gameplay footage! There’s absolutely none elsewhere to be found on the Internet outside of the trailers and tutorial.
Hopefully this game will be as good as it looks. I’ve been really disappointed with all RTS’s and all TBS’s recently, and I hope this will break that trend.
You’re asking if we want the gameplay vid?
Is the Space Pope reptilian?
Thank you very much for the interview. Looking forward to the rest… and get some sleep and proper food.
THINK ABOUT THE GAMES JOE !!! THINK ABOUT THE GAMES !!!!!!!
YEAH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good stuff. One note – don’t let that Spoony guy into interview again, he needs to lay off coke
I second this.
I third this
I’ve never played the original X-COM. I’ve already bought Xenonauts; however, I would very much like to experience the original, or official game. Maybe GOG will release the original, so I can try it. Until then, I hope to buy this game and, hopefully, enjoy something close to the original. Otherwise I have Xenonauts, which I can’t say, for sure, is exactly like the original (though it is still in Alpha). Please upload that video so I may acquire a better impression, of the official X-COM.
the origonal is aviable on Steam, might need to download dosBox for it to work though, i have it working on windows 7 64bit
I love the original Xcom. I love the look of this game and would love to preorder it on pc, but my concern is that the pc version will only support Windows XP and not Windows 7 (which I have), or at least from what I can google.
I do not know if there is anyway there is a way to make it compatible with Windows 7, or that I have gotten that information wrong, but I honestly hope that I am wrong and that I can buy Xcom without worry.
Great interview Joe! Thanks for representing the gamer’s voice, only louder. Keep up all the great work!
Can someone explain to me why Spoony felt ashamed when he yelled “Betrayal”, and now sits in front of these guys?
Wasnt his scream directed at the OTHER game, the ego-shooter one set in the 50ties?
He probably thought it made him look like a jackass on a professional level.
Out of all the major games popping out in October, this is easily one of the ones I’m definitely gonna buy. I bought x-com on steam a year ago and STILL haven’t beaten Enemy Unknown(and on the easiest difficulty; I know I suck), but I love this game regardless.
And if you’ve got the footage, throw it up! It would be nice to see some of the gameplay.
Here is an excerpt from Platoon ” I got a ba-a-a-a-a-a-a-ad feeling on this one Bob” They avoided everthing in regards to the original and the fact this is a multi-platform game, I’m willing to bank this game is going to be nothing like the original and won’t be able to hold a torch to it. I really think current developers and publishers have to stop riding on the coat tails of success from the past and use those game titles that affect our nostalgia. Mark my words, this will be dumbed down. If I am wrong, I’ll be happy about it. The footage I have seen thus far resembles the shallowness of the flash and bang syndrome with no substance. Joe, I was hoping you would of asked whether there is going to be any mod capabilities for the PC version. What Bethesda has done with mod capabilities of Skyrim is the example that should be followed by other developers. If things don’t work out, the modding community would certainly fix it!
Everyone seems too forget that the original was multi-platform as well??
On top of that, in some cases Multi platform is a great thing if it’s done right. you can add in different styles of play for each one. For PC versions you can add in more tools to mod the game, in console versions you can add faster paced action since the player input is more direct. In my opinion anyone who cries that a game, any game, is multiplatform is just being a fanbrat. Not to mention, making it multiplatform gives the developer a wider range of feedback to see what they are doing right and what they are doing wrong.
agreed i think most people have a habit of thinking of the worst multiplatform titles that dumb everything down to work on all platforms to save themselves time, rather than tweaking each platform release to play to their own strengths
Great first interview. Can’t wait till the others. And to see more gameplay of XCOM would be sweet.
Loyalty! well im buying this, only because this interview convinced me too and i want to support these guys, Great interview Joe!
i would like to see some gameplay plz
You got more footage, Joe? Then upload it, sir! More XCOM = more happiness.
Yes help us wash the crap from mass effect 3, with an awesome game….. if X-com sucks though….. i’ll be angrier than joe!!!
Now this is a X-COM game. it looks pretty good thus far.
FUCK YES XCOM
