I guess ill wait for the price to drop. Nice review Joe
Oh No!! Angry joe Give a 7.2!! DAmmit
You should know that most self-defined feminists define feminism as the belief that a person’s sex or gender should not define their worth in the eyes of society . If the game is “not for feminists” you might as well say that no one over the age of eight should want to play it.
While that might be the true definition he was referring to the common feminists, you know the ones who don’t want equality they just want to twist feminism to justify hating men without being called lesbians, etc, etc. They would see this game as “sexist” as it panders to men and makes women sex objects. So yeah he is right, in a sense, true feminists would find this funny, but the man hater feminists would complain about this.
16:45: Now that there is a blatant lack of good hygiene.
As for the game – yeah, I think this will be one of those “Buy when it’s $20-30″ sort of deals. Good review, Joe – apart from the brain scarring.
Looks excellent! I will be getting this when it falls in price a litle for sure! I would have got it already but I’m a little strapped for cash atm hah :/
I laughed so much on this video my stomach hurts, great one Joe!
As for the game itself,I don’t think I will be buying it.
I’m on the fence about this one. The game’s immature obsession with sex and profanity is a little off putting but my biggest problem with it is the length. I like Suda and I’m sure the game is still fun but it’s way too short for a $60 game. I have to say though it’s nice to finally see a game where you can actually unlock alternate costumes through gameplay instead of being forced to buy them through DLC. I’m loving that High School of the Dead alternate costume at 14:50.
after playing it, I can safely say that it’s NOT putting the sex and profanity too much in your face, like most people would think from looking at the trailer. and Juliet’s actually a pretty clever girl, not the stoic “oh yay! I killed zombies! YAY FOR ME!” thing, it’s more of a “Oh great, more Zombies. Oh well. time to show them to my death saw…with style!”
and it’s short, but it’s got like two endings in there that made me play the game again.
I’m not too worried about the sex and profanity. I can handle it but you can see how some people would be turned off by it in the trailer. My friend tells me that the sexuality is done in a more parodic sense too so it’s not just sexual for the sake of being sexy. There’s actually some humor behind it. I also like Juliet more than I thought I would. I like that she’s really loyal to her boyfriend and family. The short length is a real killer for me though. I don’t have much extra money right now and I could probably buy three better, longer Suda 51 games for a cheaper price. I’ll definitely give it a rental if the chance comes up but I can’t buy it for a full $60.
HAHAHAHAH OMG Joe!!1 , that was AWESOME!!! this has to be one of your best reviews, my stomach hurts so much!! ha ha ha ha, congratulations!!, at first i thought this game was for pervs, (lol) but after watching your review, guess ill rent it.
keep it up man! YOU ROCK!!!
I guess No More Heroes 1 & 2 are still better than this…too bad.
You couldn’t get a girl to play the cheerleader?
Joe for whatever reason you put an advertisement in your review please DO NOT put it in a middle of playing. It’s 10 times worse than a face slap. Thank you.
hey angry joe if u have have time can check nba 2k12 their are so many faults with the game its almost like the madden monopoly you talk about their is no competition that they dont have any reason to really improve it at all
This game looks like fun , but it’s really overpriced for a 5-6 hour gameplay. In my country it’s about 56-57$ which is a robbery. I’ll wait for a price drop. Luckly it’s not a game that you buy after months and dies out because noone cares about it anymore.
Stepping the hilarity up a notch aren’t we? Good, I loved the cheerleader part. I noticed some people were angry about you including that friend of yours in your “Fartin around” series. Good on you for trolling them
If there’s one thing Suda51 does REALLY well it’s Boss Battles. He knows how to make each and everyone very VERY interesting. What he does poorly? Some stuff in between. He often has fun components, but some feel like they need more time to flesh out and improve the polish and controls and give better variety.
What else he does well is story and setting and characters. They are always unique, always entertaining, and always interesting. Even if not serious, they can have depth to them that most games that take themselves to seriously don’t in their characters and that’s hilarious. I’ve been a huge Suda51 guy since No More Heroes. I don’t think I’ll pick this one up for awhile, but I will eventually.
I seriusly couldun’t look at the beginning of this video Nasty man!
Oh man Joe you NEED to play Shadows of the Damned. It was like one of the best games last year and no one knew it even existed! When I picked the game up from gamestop and it was like the second day of release the cashier didn’t even know it came out, and he was a Suda fan.
First thing’s first the humor. If you like lolipop’s humor then Shadows improves upon that even more. It’s not for everyone, but for the people that like it love it. I mean you will have segments where your gun Johnson (lots of dick jokes in here) calls a demonic sex line to become “THE BIG BONER” or when the main bad guy is stroking his huge pole and commenting on your lack of performance.
The boss are amazing. Every boss in the game is just some sad pathetic person who died and is given special powers in hell. Before every boss there is a fairy tale like story book about them, the books actually give the bosses personality and make them much more memorable. All of which are grim, funny, and just get you hyped to beat their ass.
As for gameplay length it’s about 9-10 hours. Definitely on the short side and the biggest problem in the game. Although this seems a bit right because towards the end it does get repetitive regardless of the extra levels that mix up gameplay, but I was more then happy to pay the full $60 for this game. Now it should be less then $20, so it’s a must buy. Not to mention I immediately jumped into a second playthrough after the first. Even despite it being an extremely linear game
So stop waiting and UPGRADE YOUR JOHNSON!!!

I agree completely. Shadows of the Damned was awesome! Garcia Hotspur and Johnson became one of my favorite video game duos after playing it. The only downside to the game was its lack of replayability. There’s no new game+ so you have to start from square one if you want to play again but if you enjoyed Lollipop Chainsaw then you’ll probably enjoy it as well. The style, humor and nonsensical story are all there but better in my opinion. The game even throws you for a loop every now and then. You should also check out No More Heroes. The first game got ported to the 360 so it probably plays better than the Wii version. It’s also really fun and has some memorable bosses, my personal favorite being Destroy Man. Suda’s games aren’t perfect but they’re still a blast to play just for how stylish and stupid they are.
AAAAARRRGGGGHHH MY EYES!!!!!! IT BURRRNNNNSSSSS!!!!
Nice review this kind of game always helps out releasing our madnesss hacking and slashing, but game time and price…. isnt that good.
Thanks for the review… Going to shock therapy to see if I can forget.
Later
Now that my eyes have finally stopped bleeding I can write a comment. You should have gotten the chick from your Tomb Raider review for the cheerleader stuff.
Hey, Joe! Love your reviews, man! You feel like a real game fan instead of some cold ass game site editor.
You really should play Shadows of the damned…it’s fun as hell.
Cheers from Brazil!
SUDA’s a fecken genius. Killer7 was one of the best games I played, also one of the best stories in games in general. The story was so good in fact that it would make for a great movie.
Too bad I hadn’t played any of his other works, as I am primarily a PC gamer (my last console being PS2). I probably should get me a console or two though, I’m missing out on great stuff.
im blind when i saw the cheerleader guy ewwww
Excellent review, Joe! Some fricking hilarious stuff. I really liked the game, though it was definitely on the short side. But I was expecting that since it’s an arcade style game. Still need to get all of those costumes… *snort*
highschool of the dead skins for julliet suda 51 YOUR A GOD !!!!!!
Looks and smells like a budget-buy. Thanks for the review, very entertaining
My eyes bleed a bit from the start and end of the video…
*watches the cross dressing guy* Joe… I should kill you for that.
As epic as the bosses are, they didn’t handle the multiforming that well. The designs in that regard just don’t communicate that the gloves are off. Options to do the stages in whatever order ya like akin to the Prinny series woulda been neat too.
I still liked the game, twas a blast, Suda51 always puts a smile on my face with his off-the-wall humour
Still no d3!?!
Perhaps blizzard and the corporate commander have you on the pay roll.
Are u waiting for his opinion on the most talked about game at the moment before u buy it?
There is quite a lot to say about it… id be surprised if he tackled a game that already people have such strong opinions on.
Wait.. wait wait wait.. at 2:43-ish.. are those.. mokujins?
Loved this review, Joe! I agree completely with you… I wish I hadn’t pre-ordered it, but hell, now I have an inflatable chainsaw to smack people around with, so it’s all good.
I wasn’t too keen on the premise myself, but it was really the music (and MSI’s Jimmy Urine voicing Zed<3) …And Micheal Rosenbaum -who played Lex Luthor in Smallville- as Nick, that made me want to pick it up. I'm not hugely disappointed with it, but it definitely should have been lower in price. The replay value helps though.
Also… I was gonna go to bed… But… I'm going to dream of fuzzy guys in cheerleader outfits and the thought TERRIFIES me. Thanks a lot!
well, I think the viking is a black metaller
Good review Joe!
I am still wondering when you are going to release your Diablo 3 review. I have been waiting for your review since the game’s release and I am tired of waiting.
Just letting you know it is actually possible to change to manual aim within the options! <3
OH GOD!!! MY EYES!!!
Joe, you say these are some of the best boss battles you’ve played. Seriously, play No More Heroes! That is a hell of a Suda51 Game!
Already got mine. This is my game of the year… Nymphy’s Seal of Approval.
5 hours is probably an hour way to long for how short the game is even..
It’s more like an arcade game from the SNES days with how simple the combat is, and it’s just Tara Strong doing the same voice she does for everything.
There’s a reason most reviews are pretty bad for the game…
hey
nice review
mmm i have to pass on this till price really goes down , ur great joe , long time fan. Greattings from argentina joe
Oh man, Joe you get bonus points from me for mentioning Gungrave! XD
AAAAAAHH MY EYES THEY BURN “*_*”
Deadman Wonderland Shiro Costume!!!!!!! Wow i jumped out of my seat when I saw that…I know this is off topic but who else is happy that Toonami is back??….Other than that, I think its a fair score….The game may be incredibly fun, but, it doesn’t change the fact that its short….That’s the reason why I’m waiting for Asuras Wrath to drop price
Off topic, here, here, not a fan of deadman wonderland, i like dark humor but that show just goes over the line of dark humor to just creepy. cashern sins is pretty awesome though.
On topic, i may get this game for a rental, but after asura’s wrath i’ve seriously stayed back from buying short games. i’m still regretting that game, the story’s been done before and i couldn’t get over all the quick time stuff being a big part of the gameplay. Hopefully LC will convince me there are still short games out there good enough AND creative enough to buy.
i dont know what was worse seeing a big burly guy in a sailor moon outfit, or jacob dancing dressed as a cheerleader………either way gota give him props for having no shame lol
If you enjoyed this Joe, then i recommend you better get No More Heroes 1 and 2 and KIller 7. Also the voice of Zed is the lead vocalist from Mindless Self Indulgence..cant’ think of his name at the moment but that’s who it is. Which makes me want this game more.
His name’s Jimmy Urine. and he also helped with the soundtrack too. and one of the Gamestop pre-orders was an outfit based on him.
Looks like I will have to wait until Joe puts the review on YT, blip.tv is horribly slow and I don’t mean the buffering, I mean the playback.
I highly suggest going into the options menu and turning Chainsaw Blaster Autoaim OFF. Every shooting section, especially zombie baseball is MUCH easier without it. When I did zombie baseball for the first time after turning it off Nick didn’t even get touched.
I’m really glad you like the game and can agree with the score however I personally give it a 7/10. Most people will hate this game though since it’s a throwback to more old school arcade games and doesn’t have the combat system of DMC or the length of Skyrim. It could have used more stages for sure but it’s a game they made with the intent of playing it over and over and over again. It’s not a long game, but has a lot of content. You also have to give em credit for actually making all the costumes unlockable content instead of disc locked DLC or some shit like that. Not even Arkham City had that.
I played my friend’s copy of the game last night up to just defeating Zed. My only other thing to mention is the controls at times feel strange, but I think it’s the general auto targeting suckage that is to blame. Maybe a patch later. I will probably wait for the game to be a value price or On Demand (at value price), but what I played was super enjoyable either way.
Jacob!! STOP STOP SSTOP…..ugghhhhhh
just tell me… WHY??! why you put joseph in a cheerleader outfit, thanks for sponsor my nightmares this week ¬¬
SALUDOS HERMANO!
I’m just glad you didn’t fume at it’s length. actually, you should’ve mentioned that it actually had TWO endings after credits. the “Horrid” ending that most people first starting it would get and then the Happy ending. making it ANOTHER reason to Play it again. I even went to lengths to play over and over and OVER to get all the unlockable outfits and love ones like the High school of the Dead outfits and Manyu, which has been crowned my favorite. Oh and when the final level starts with a soundtrack by Dragonforce, you KNOW that you got an epic game. it’s a Diamond in the rough for sure.
