Phill plays a triple A game!
Artists need to learn from their mistakes, and this one just made another…

…
Okay, I gotta speak my mind for a bit, this week was just MEH for me! Not going into details, but one reason for feeling MEH oddly enough, was this very game I played, but I actually recommend spending money on it. It does a lot of things right that other war games just do not know how to do.
It doesn’t do a whole lot to innovate gameplay, it’s pretty much a cover based 3rd person shooter, blah blah blah we’ve all seen this done ten thousand times already. The story more than makes up for it, trust me. Unlike Call of Duty, this game doesn’t try to take the “Edgy” approach and make the player out to be some sort of one man juggernaut out for justice. You as the main protagonist… actually… I ain’t going to say anything more. What I will say is that you MUST play this game! If I had the authority to do so, I’d give this game the Angry Joe Show BADASS SEAL OF APPROVAL!
But right now though, why not give me your thoughts on this game? Try to keep it spoiler free of course. Cya’ll next week!

recomend it just for its 4 hour campaign? i should kill this cat-man, plus the multiplayer itself is just bland and as you guessed it was also somewhat empty. a badass seal approval for this game will most likely never come to pass on heaven or earth.
I’m surprised a lot of people were “shocked” by this game. The game was alright but when I played it I didn’t feel very “blown away” by the game’s attempt at tugging at my moral strings. Maybe it’s just me thinking clearly or being desensitized by other games that have done it better, but this game made me more annoyed than shocked. The game really gave you no choice what so ever that invoked any kind of moral backlash, imo. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater did it way better when you fought “The Sorrow”, and in that game you actually had a choice of how you wanted to handle things that would make this experience either easy to pass or shockingly disturbing. What’s worse is how everyone (including the game itself) is criticizing you for the actions you’ve taken when there’s no way to avoid them (To anyone’s who’s played the game, try playing Chapter 8 “The Gate” and NOT attacking the last target. You’ll be there forever as the game forces you to do this). I keep hearing people say “The game’s trying to tell you that it’s not right to kill your fellow man as it’s not heroic or glorious in any way” but, again, MGS3 already did that to a much greater extent and it didn’t even have to try. Honestly, though this game was good in terms of gameplay and action, it ultimately felt like I payed $50.00 to have a game yell at me for doing something it was forcing me to do.
Adams: “This might be the only way, we don’t have a choice…”
Luco: “We always have a choice!”
Walker: “…No…we really don’t…”
That´s the point of the game mr. Raven, you DON´T have a choice. Walker´s squad is pretty much stranded in Dubai until they find Konrad.
And things just seem to get worse for our “heroes”, so to speak.
Like it was said by Phill, it´s not about a “juggernaut of justice” destroying the “evil terrorists”.
It´s about 3 soldiers that are stranded, without any sort of supplies and backup, with a leader that is clearly going nuts and still trying to fulfill their mission.
This game is about the insanity that is WAR and the horrible scars it leaves on people, both civilians and soldiers. Everything from the setting, the music, the characters points to that. It´s not about being a “juggernaut of justice”, it´s about surviving and trying to keep your sanity intact.
actually that’s where the game contradicts itself near the end.
“All of this could have been avoided if you would have just stopped”
They weren’t “stranded”. They never were. They didn’t “have” to find Konrad, they were just sent in to find “survivors”. At any point Walkers squad mates could have just said “screw you guys, I’m going home” Especially after Chapter 8 “The Gate” when you had to “choose” between the “soldier” and the “civilian”. That should have raised a red flag and I’m pretty sure any sane person would have stopped questioned his judgement more than just “I trust you, I just don’t agree with you”. I can understand the whole “war is madness” but I feel like the devs made a poor delivery on the message.
IMO, it would have been much more effective if he did that one “right” thing at the beginning before things went south. That’s just me though. I see how they made it an “anti-hero” game as the main protagonist does dive in head first and ends up way over his head, making a bad situation worse, but again, I felt no sympathy for him, did not feel any guilt for killing “my fellow man” (honestly it’s hard to feel sorry for shooting someone who’s content on shooting you without question) nor any moral backlash for the events that happened in Chapter 8 as there was no “choice” in the matter, thus I don’t care much for the outcome.
MGS3: Snake Eater, Mass Effect 2 and 3 I feel are better examples of moral backlash when you make a wrong decision or take an unnecessary action, and what makes it so effective is having that choice.
I don´t remember any backlash at Crap Effect 3 except the “Godchild”…
I decided to forever boycott EA after that…
No ammounts of extended cut will change my mind at the subject.
And about Walker, you got remember he´s a Delta, a military man, a guy that GETS the job done and he had his personal relation to Konrad.
For a man of his profile, i´d say from personal experience that it´s pretty hard to “give up and go home”.
Specially after the attrocities he saw the 33º commit.
I agree with you on Mass Effect 3′s ending, but when I brought it up I meant the decisions that could be made during many of the missions involving characters from previous games (Stopping the Solarian Doctor from curing the Genophage, not being able to stop the Quarian Fleet from attacking the Geth, those sorts of things that actually give the characters a reason to hate you, the player.)
But moving on from that, Yeah, Walker’s a Delta Force Recon Operative sent in to Dubai with 2 other Delta Force Operatives to search for survivors. “Once we find survivors, we radio HQ, they send in the cavalry and we go home.” I can understand how a man of his status as a spec ops operative would easily take matters into his own hands after seeing these things happen, but when Phill said, “this game doesn’t try to take the “Edgy” approach and make the player out to be some sort of one man juggernaut out for justice” I had to laugh. For a game that doesn’t try to make you out to be a juggernaut, they do a great job at doing just that. Three men against an entire Battalion of troops (maybe more), Humvees, APCs, attack choppers, full body armored EOD suited Juggernauts and a special detachment of make shift black ops soldiers that specializes in CQC, etc, etc, etc. Could have fooled me, you know?
And so far, after almost a week campaigning for an Angry Review i see that people are more interested in insulting Phill’s work than discuss the awesome game called Spec Ops: The Line…
I find it rather comical that Phill can’t upload a comic with himself in it without people yelling furry insults. While I usually am offended at first when I read one, myself being a furry, I can’t help but laugh afterwards. Especially since usually the best argument they can come up with is “I’ve seen furry pictures before, it’s disgusting”
As others have said, it appears that alot of people believe that anything anthropomorphic is yif. It’s not only ignorant but it’s offensive, especially to those furries that have a dislike or even hatred for that kind of stuff.
Although I do completely understand if someone is uncomfortable with stuff like this, no matter how harmless it is, just don’t run around insulting people for it.
To clear something up, when I said “I usually am offended at first when I read one”, I was talking about the comments, not the comics. The comics are hilarious.
Unfortunately that’s the nature of perception. There are more of the yiffing pics out there than there are the actual furry drawings. So most people are going to automatically perceive that furry is all about hentai and various other forms of perversion and since most people are too lazy to actually research it they’ll maintain that perception that anyone associated with furrydom is perverted.
Hell i thought that too for a while, until i started getting into webcomics and found the light side of the furry trend. Now i’m an avid follower of yosh and twokinds, while they have their moments where the creator makes a perverse joke or two i can see the value in the creation of characters of an anthropomorphic species.
You know, fur is hair and it makes no sense to give a spotlessly gray cat-like character brown “hair” and a “beard”.
That thing either has to be brown or the brown has to re-occur somewhere else on the fur for it to make any sense at all.
Right now it just looks out of place, slapped on like a wig.
Also some length of facial hair can be stomached (see: vg cats) but when we get into the region of preposterously long emo-hair, it’s starting to look silly again.
Speaking of hair, you should take a look how real hair actually falls because that construction there is a pure work of interpreted interpretation, from what I can tell.
You might want to consider redesigning that thing. Simplifying it.
while I understand the kind of point you’re trying to make, it is a comic, and truth be told if this is how he wants his character to look, then it’s how he wants his character to look. Heck, I have a black and white cat with brown hair as a character, he also wears a green suit with a green tophat.
You lost me when you mentioned VGCats. If you want a cat comic that’s actually good; read Lackadaisy. Besides that it seems you’re missing the point entirely in order to talk about a character’s appearance, and honestly… I don’t care about the hair on a cartoon cat looking realistic.
What “point” did I miss again…?
Spec Ops: The Line. That’s what the comic is focusing on.
I for once see a comic before me.
If you want to be an author and not so much an artist, if you don’t want your audience to be “distracted” by the “unnecessary fluff” we are so clearly not meant to focus on, write articles, not comics.
Don’t waste everyones time with art if that’s not meant to be the focus.
I have a shark character with wolf-like legs, ears, and black hair with white highlights.
Stop over-thinking fictional and cartoon characters.
way to over analayze that portion of the comic o.o the first comic of his that I saw i just pegged it as a furry and moved on. right or wrong, it was a mystery solved and shelved as far as I was concerned.
@Vagueshade, We can´t explain without spoiling a major plot point…
Not necessarily…
He played Spec Ops so he could see if he could make a comic out of something from it.
Then he played the deep and gruesome story…
lol
@ Vagueshade, can you also ask the supreme commander to make an angry review for this game ?
I´d appreciate that…
What makes you think I can contact Joe better than the rest of you guys?
Just post a comment saying that you want an angry review of Spec Ops too.
That should be enough.
After all, it´s better to review spec ops than another generic shooter, right?
I’m sure he himself sees that.
He knows this industry more than anyone else here, anyways.
Ha!
This is funny in ways I can’t explain.
Guys, really?!
This is ridiculous, i mean, how can you guys see “furry porn” in such a simple comic?!
Phill made a VERY FUNNY comic about the “shellshock” of Spec Ops: The Line. We should before anything respect the guys talent at drawing.
And in second place, YOU GUYS should go play the game and feel exactly LIKE HE DID!
If you don´t feel anything after playing this AWESOME game, then you should call a doctor ASAP, something is wrong with you.
Ps: I´m still in campaign to ask the Supreme Commander Angry Joe To give this game an Angry Review and give this awesome game it´s very deserved seal of baddassery.
Please Angry Joe fans like me, this game didn´t sell well, let´s give it the recognition it deserves!
Some people are just still stuck on the idead that furries are all sex crazed delinquents, and immediately jump to that at the sight of anything furry related.
I’m just glad to see that there are some people who are willing to defend the fandom
Guys… guys? Anyone remember THIS? http://angryjoeshow.com/2012/05/fartin-around-with-specops-the-line/
That was only a demo however, can’t get a full game and story experience with the demo. Definitely going to talk to Joe and pester him about at least playing this game in his free time.
Please Mr. Phill, we are counting on you….
Convince the Supreme Commander…
Godspeed, major general!
Better than before
fucking kill yourself you furry faggot fuck, this is the angry joe show no one wants to see your gay furry fucking anime shit you ass licking shit shredder.
I hate furries as much as any sane person but this is harmless and is a good way for the artist to put himself in the comic without making himself easily identifiable. The artist does not deserve the above comment now if he started doing furry porn then by all means buy your pitchforks and torches at bobs pitchfork and torch shack.
Or ya know… you both could grow up, So what if he is so what if he isn’t. You are doing no Justice to the Angry Joe Army with mentality or attitude.
you haven’t seen it, when you see furry porn it scars you for life, trust me. but even I know this is harmless and meant to be as such.
There is no porn in that picture at all, dumbass. Its ANIMATION, like any other friggin’ comic strip. You don’t have to be rude to people trying to be funny.
You act as if that even matter at the subject at hand, Furry, Bronies, Geeks, Nerds, Etc etc Gamers are Gamers no matter what they may be.
And being a Gamer you should be ASHAMED of feeding into a false Media mentality, IF anyone know the media will show a small percentage of a group that has nothing to do with the majority it’s gamers, Or do you believe all gamer are nuts with guns who like to shoot there families under the ideal “they will re-spawn”.
Didn’t think so..
So as I said grow up he furry who give a crap. What he into beyond that none of your business to boot as well.
I do agree that most, if not just about all furry porn crosses the line, though personally that shouldn’t be a reason to hate furries in general.
I myself am a furry, but it’s more in line that I enjoy games, shows, graphic novels and the like that make use of anthropomorphic animal characters, as well as enjoy designing and coming up with a story for my own personal fursona.
don’t hate furries, hate the porn.
I thought the game was BADASS!!!! The story was actually like a version of Apocalypse Now. The choices you made actually felt real and some times actually depressing (which is good). The use of sand as an environment weapon I thought was pretty cool. The graphics were pretty cool (especially the sand), and pulling off headshots and then going into slow-motion helped me actually pull off more headshots. As well as the kickass soundtrack played over the radio. And the different endings make worth your time to go back and play it a couple times again. As well as the multiplayer goes its pretty fun if you get the hang of it.
But! There were some bad things, like how your A.I. will sometimes take forever to take out an enemy, and there is one part where it would be easier to go in quietly and i gave the order to take them out quietly but they actually alerted them. What are they trying to kill me. And another one is the bad cover system I mean sometimes it will work with you other times it will throw you out of cover right when your in the middle of a firefight which will probably end up killing you. The very last thing wrong with the game the thing that pisses me of the most. THE FUCKING DIFFICULTLY SPIKES !!!!!! I mean holy crap this game has some really bad ones like you’ll be in one area and you’ll breeze right through, then the next area it all goes to hell, and you get shot up more times then Peter Weller did in the shotgun death scene in Robocop.
In my conclusion I think spec ops: the line is a great new change of pace that we’ve seen from recent shooters. And the Pro’s definitely outweigh the Cons. All in all I definitely have recommended this to all my friends and I now recommend it to you.

Robert, i played on Hard and now playing on Fubar and i didn´t see any spikes.
In fact, THE WHOLE GAME IS HARD!
But then again, this game is a pearl among oisters, it DESERVES my blood, sweat and tears, it DESERVES to be defeated in hard modes.
I´m gonna get it´s platinum trophy or die trying!
you go dude, and to me it felt like there were spikes, but that maybe just the way i saw the difficulty as.
We should campaign for the Supreme Commander to make an Angry Review of this game.
Who’s with me?
i have yet to play it but my friends absolutly love it and I love all Angry Reviews. So I’m down with an Angry Review
Like i commented on the Supreme Commander Review of Max Payne 3, Please Supreme Commander Angry Joe, MAKE AN ANGRY REVIEW OF SPEC OPS: THE LINE! This game is quite ballsy in it’s approach to the insanity of War.
Bought it on day 1 and don´t regret it.
From what i heard it didn´t sell much….
Pity, i really wanted a sequel, a much more ambitious one…
I think I’ll pass,I had enough with games with guns.I wanna try something refreshing like Halo was for the Xbox.
